View Access Privileges

Hi,
I learnt that if we want to create a view in a schema, the owner of the schema should have select, insert, update and delete privileges on all the tables on which the view should be based on.
But if we have got the above privilleges through a role rather than directly granted privileges, we cannot create a view.
Can some one please help me understand why it is so, and what difference does it make if a privilege is granted through role and granted directly
Thanks for your help
Your answers are very valuable to me . Thank you very much
Thanks
Ravi

The answer is
views (and procedures and functions and packages) are compiled and roles are volatile so potentially would have been changed after compilation of the view.
This is why roles are ignored during compilation.
You can compile procedure with definer rights (default) and invokers rights (adding 'authid current_user' before 'is')
Ideally you use the former, as you best create a procedure in the schema of the table.
Invokers rights do not apply to views.
All of this, as always, has already been asked 10000000000000000000000 times here, and the answers are in this forum, and in the documentation everyone here refuses to read.

I have just installed itune on a windows 8 OS and am am trying to sync my iphone but it cannot import photos and come up with the error message "you do not have enough access privileges for this operation"

    Hey there Opal4,
It sounds like you are unable to use iTunes due to this error message about not having enough access privileges. According to the following article you may need to change the permissions on the file directly:
These messages occur if permissions are incorrect on your designated music folder or on a folder inside your designated music folder. Permissions are settings that determine who can read, write to, or execute a file or folder on your computer. Every file and folder on your hard disk has an associated set of permissions.
Example: If permissions are correct on your Music folder, but incorrect on the U2 folder inside your Music folder, you would be able to add other music to your iTunes library, but not that new U2 album.

  • ICal dead after update--access privileges/calendar cache error

    Hi all,
iCal began acting a bit buggy earlier today--it wouldn't let me add any new events or see the details in old ones, even after closing and re-opening the program. I just did a software update (including OS software) and now it won't work at all!
At first I got the following error message: "“Calendar Cache” could not be moved because you do not have appropriate access privileges for “Calendars” To view or change access privileges, select the item in Finder and choose File > Get Info.."
I searched the archives and found threads advising to delete the Calendar Cache file and the program would rebuild the Calendar Cache after restart. I did this, however the program still isn't working! (And right before the start of the work week, wouldn't you know!)
The error message I'm getting now is "The file could not be saved because you do not have appropriate access privileges. To view or change access privileges, select the item in Finder and choose File > Get info."
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I really need access to my calendar for tomorrow!
(As an aside, I feel like the past 3 or 4 times I have updated my OS it has resulted in some weird error or problem--once it crashed my whole OS! I'm a life long Mac user and apple shareholder, but I'm really starting to lose faith. Apple Gods, if you are listening, please make it so that software updates do not kill my computer or its programs! Is that too much to ask for?)

Sounds like something is definitely going on because mine did the same thing. Only now, I can't even open iCal anymore! I managed to export the files before it totally crashed so I at least have a copy of what was on there. I wish somebody would fix this so I can use my ical again! I was dependent on it for my daily work!
Now I keep getting error messages when I try to go back into the main program. The first error says: "the application iCal quit unexpectedly". When I click on Ropen it says Mac OSX and other applications are not affected. Click Try Again to tempo. restore the application's default settings and open it again." When I click on Report, I get the following details (it's long...):

  • Iweb - when I ask to publish my site ( using ftp) I am suddenly receiving this errorCan't create the file "logo.jpg." The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges. Any ideas please

Can’t create the file “logo.jpg.” The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.

How much free space do you have on your hard drive?  What system and iWeb versions do you have?
    Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and later the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • Restore from back-up now "The media can't be used because you don't have access privileges...."

My wife bought a new MBA and restored from back-up. Now when she tries to drag a photo from iPhoto into a Pages document, she get's the error "The media can't be used because you don't have access privileges, or because it has no content or is corrupt". Interestingly, there is no problem dragging the photo into the finder.

What versoin of iPhoto and system are you running - 9.4.3 and 10.8 4?  How did you restore from the backup? Are you able to view the photos when you double click on them in iPhoto?  If not what do you see?
If I've guessed the versions correctly Apply the following fix to your library:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Options #1 to repair permissions and #4 to rebuild the database.

    Hi all
So I'm getting this message"The folder "O-Drive" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges".
I received this drive from a client I'm doing audio work for and I've tried it on two different macs and have gotten the same message. Shows up on my desktop but not in the finder viewer and the disk utility can't access anything either. Any tips, ideas or solutions for this issue?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Access privilege problems after transferring user to computer

    Hi
I gave my flat screen iMac (lamp-shade version) to my parents when I bought a new Intel Core Duo. They had an older iMac. Both their old computer and the one I gave them are running 10.2.8. I connected the computers with a firewire, created a new user (with admin status) and transferred their user info onto my old computer. It all seemed fine, except now when I log on as them all of the applications have access privilege problems. Is there a global way for me to give them read and write access to everything?
    Thanks
Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

You may need to post this in one of the older iMac forums iMac (CRT) or iMac (Flat panel) where someone may still be running OSX which is that old. As you may realize with your new iMac and 10.4, much has changed.
Are you sure that when you sign in as the administrator and go to System Prefs/Accounts and view your access to the account that you created for them there are no access limitations?

  • How can i view all privileges granted to an user?

How can i view all privileges granted to an user? I have access to dba_ views.

    You should look at:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/nav/catalog_views.htm?remark=homepage#index-DBA
Look at the views that have the letters "PRIVS" in their names:
    DBA_COL_PRIVS
    DBA_ROLE_PRIVS
    DBA_RSRC_CONSUMER_GROUP_PRIVS
    DBA_RSRC_MANAGER_SYSTEM_PRIVS
    DBA_SYS_PRIVS
    DBA_TAB_PRIVS
    ROLE_ROLE_PRIVS
    ROLE_SYS_PRIVS
    ROLE_TAB_PRIVS
    ROLE_WM_PRIVS
    SESSION_PRIVS
Depending on what privileges you want that is where to look.

  • Cup view access only

I am trying to create a view only application user for CUP. - customer wants view access to admin page on cup. I created a new group and assigned a role of 'ccmadmin view' . I assigned the group to a new application user -  I try and login but it does not present me with the admin pages - it just takes me back to the web login page. If i login with the wrong password it states wrong username or password but as i said if i login correctly then it just presents me back to the admin page with the blank username and login page.

    Hi
Ah - I see what you mean. I just labbed this. Looks like someone at Cisco has done a wonderful job of testing this.
If you've ever done this in CCM, you'll know you normally add the custom user group to the 'Standard CCM Admin Users' role that grants access to ccmadmin, and then give read/update privileges by creating another role.
Unfortunately with CUPS, you don't see that role in order to be able to add it.
    So:
Go into User Groups, click on Standard CUP Super Users.
Click 'Copy', and call the new copy Standard CUP Read Only Users or whatever you like
Select 'Assign roles to user group' from the drop down
Remove 'Standard CCMAdmin Administration' but LEAVE 'Standard CCM Admin Users' there.
Add the 'ReadOnly' role you created or the 'Standard CCMAdmin Read Only' role listed as for 'Presence Administration' to the group
    Save it
Assign your app user to the group.
That must be worth more than three stars? :-)

    Hey there Giorgiaaaa,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the permissions and access settings may need to be reset or troubleshot.
I suggest these steps from the article named:
