View and View controller in WebDynpro component.

Dear SDN Community,
  I don't see anything like View controller in the webdynpro component. In the WebDynpro component I see only View but no View Controller. Is it that in the webdynpro component view and view controller are physically same and when you swtich to the layout tab its the view and the rest of the tabs for the View controller. May be a stupid question but I would appreciate your clarification here.
Thanks!
Surya

Yes, they are to some degree merged in the IDE. For example, there is only one Java source file for view and view controller. The metadata on the other side are stored in different XML files.

  • Calling view controller method from component controller method

    Hi,
    Is there any way to call view controller method from component controller method?
    Thanks,

    Hi Khandal.
    You should not make you component controller dependent from a view controller.
    But what you can do is to define an event in the component controller. The view
    controller can register for this event.
    In the stage where you currently want to call the view controller method just fire
    the event. In the event handler method in the view controller you can call the
    method then.
    Why do you need to call a view controller method? Can you give more details
    about the scenario?
    Cheers,

  • Calling a method in the view controller from the component controller

    Hi
    Is there anyway to call a method in the view implementation from the component controller??
    Thanks
    jack

    Thanks for all your replies. I want this kind of a functionality because Im trying to invove a DC (Child DC) from a Parent DC such that the Child DC's view is displayed onto the view container of the Parent DC. I have embedded using 'interface view of a component instance' in the Parent Window and am able to create the component and set usage though the onPlugDefault of the Child View.
    But I observe that when i make a call from the parent, the flow is like this:
    1. The wdDoInit of the Child Component Controller gets triggered first.
    2. Then the wdDoInit of the Child's <b>VIEW</b> gets triggered
    3. and <b>THEN</b> the onPlugDefault of the Child Component Interface View
    What I had actually wanted was to Fire onPlugDefault where Im calling a method LoadData(), after which the Child DC's view must be triggered so it can display the fetched data.
    What is actually happening is the view gets displayed, but no data is displayed in the view.
    Right now I have just given a work around where Im triggering <b>LoadData()</b> of the <b>COmponent COntroller</b> from the <b>wdDoInit</b> of the <b>VIEW</b>.
    Is there a better way to do this? I find it strange that I have to load the Data from the view.
    Thanks
    Jack

  • Geeting the following complation error in the view controller in webdynpro

    Not able to import the follwoing file in the import statement. Can u tell me what is the reason behind this.
    import is.eimskip.comp.wdp.IPrivateSOdetailView

    I will take a wild guess:
    MGT2.VW_PRINT_026
    Is a materialized view too.
    This error means that while doing a refresh to VW_MAT_026 it
    source mv, the VW_PRINT_026 wasn't exists, i.e. has been in the refresh process.
    You didn't get it in Sql*Plus because you are doing it step by step.
    The solution - make sure that VW_PRINT_026 completed it refresh before doing
    The VW_MAT_026 refresh, e.g.
    not tested-
    begin
    dbms_snapshot.refresh('VW_PRINT_026');
    dbms_snapshot.refresh('VW_MAT_026');
    end;Another option - the VW_PRINT_026 is a table created "on the fly"
    And in some scenario - the table isn't exists yet...
    If this is the case you should check if the object exist before doing the
    VW_MAT_026 refresh, e.g.
    not tested-
    declare
    ll_exists number;
    begin
    select 1 into ll_exists from all_objects where owner ='MGT2' and
    object_name ='VW_PRINT_026';
    dbms_snapshot.refresh('VW_MAT_026');
    when others then raise;
    end;Amiel

  • Coupling between component controller and view controller

    Hello,
    I have seen some discussions in this forum regarding the possibilities of calling / triggering a view controllers's method from a component controller's method;  obviously the Web Dynpro framework only provides for the other direction (view ctrl -> comp ctrl) via handle <i>wd_comp_controller</i>.
    Some people proposed raising events in the comp controller and catching these in the view controller, others pointed out that any dependance of a view controller on a component controller would violate MVC principles.
    Now, I can't see why a tighter coupling (in both ways) between controllers within one component would harm MVC in any way. So I suggest to "register" a view controller in the pertaining component controller if necessary:
    this_controller = wd_this->wd_get_api( ).
    wd_comp_controller->register_view_ctrl_XYZ( this_controller ).
    This way the component controller can save the reference and later call any method on it. What do you think, does anything argue against this practice?
    Regards,
    Sebastian

    Hi Sebastian,
    I wouldn't try to explain whether it is violating the MVC principles or not.
    Can you please explain how to call methods of view using the view controller?
    have you tried using an example???
    I want to give a small example which I think is a basic disadvantage of calling View methods from component controller.
    Suppose I have 30 methods in a view and such 7 views in a component (I think this is a very common example).
    Till now one is very clear that if I have a method in view, it will be called at maximum by other methods with in the view. That means at any point of time, my search is limited to 30 methods.
    Now if component controller can also call my search will become horrible and spread to 210 methods, unless otherwise, you are very good at naming attributes and wont make the mistake of assigning attributes wrongly.
    Imagine the effort if the outside components also access these methods through interface.
    Also I dont think that the webdynpro phase model can support this way of calling view methods. You might be successful once, but then you are trying to open a can of worms.
    This is my way of thinking...
    Also, it would be great if you can tell me whether you are successful in calling views methods or not???
    Thanks,
    Anand

  • REG : Execution of BAPI in view controller

    Hi Experts,
    Is this necessity to excute bapi in  component controller only.I am excuting bapi once only so i am comfortable in executing bapi in view.Kindly advise me any drawbacks if there are any for executing bapi in view controller.
    Regards,
    Anupama

    hi
    with  respect to calling the rfc or the bapi in the view comtroller will not effect the performance ,
    as there may be scenarios where on click of a button in the view you need to call the rfc ,
    the execute method which gets generated should always be in the component controller and calling the rfc can be from the
    view controller or the component controller ,  this will help to use the execute method any where in  'N' of views
    rather to using execute method in view controller .
    if your are new to webdynpro and exposing rfc / bapi then go with the standard document the SAP has provided
    for calling and executing  rfc.

  • Diff between Component controller,Custome controller and  View controller

    hi,
        Can any body tell me the following details,
    1.difference between the Component controller,Custome controller and  View controller in WD-ABAP.?
    2.what is Lead Selection?
    Regards,
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi.
    The component controller is visbile to all views in a component. So all context nodes and methods you create here can be accessed from all views in the component. This way you can share data between the views by mapping context nodes or thru method calls. You can also mark methods and nodes as interface so that they are acessable from other components that define component usages to this cmponent.
    Custom controller is quiet similar to the component controller. You can define it if you want to group some views with a custom controller for a certain functionality.
    If you want to access a custom controller in a view you have to define the usage first on the properties tab of the view.
    A view controller is only visible in the view itself. So all methods or context nodes you define here are only accesable by the current view.
    The lead selection is in most cases the current selected element in a context node. The lead selection is used by many UI elements to determine which element has to be shown (e.g drop down).
    If you have a table with single selection the current selected table row is the lead selection element of the bound context node.
    SO you can get the lead selection element easily in any mthod by calling context_node->get_element( ).
    Hope this clears your questions.

    Sascha

  • Hook methods in component controller vs hook methods in view controller

    Hi,
    I want to know how WDDoInit in component controller differs from the same in view controller.
    How the lifecycle flows in both controllers?
    Eg. if i create a method intialize() in both component  & view controllers and if i called initalize method in view, which one will be called?
    Need to know how the flow works.
    Regards,
    Manoj

    Dear Manoj,
    Please check if it is helpful.
    The order of execution of standard hook methods when a WDJ application is called the first time is as follows:
    1. Component Controller DoInIt()
    2. View Controller DoInIt()
    3. Interface Window Controller
    4. Component Controller DoBeforeNavigation()
    5. Component Controller DoModify()
    6. Component Controller DoPostProcessing()
    After this, if you navigate to some other view, then the order of execution of methods of that New view will be:
    1. Component Controller DoBeforeNavigation()
    2. New View DoInIt()
    3. New View onPlugfromFirstView
    4. Component Controller DoModify()
    5. Component Controller DoPostProcessing()
    Then, if you again navigate back to the first view, then the order of execution of methods is:
    1. Component Controller DoBeforeNavigation()
    2. New View onPlugfromNewView
    3. Component Controller DoModify()
    4. Component Controller DoPostProcessing()

  • How to access View Context thr' View Controller; and not thr' View....

    Hi
    As we know that we can access Component Context Attribute by Component Controller in view as:
    wdThis.wdGet<Component_Name>Controller().wdGetContext().currentContextElement().
    get<Component_Context_Attribute>
    whereas wdThis.wdGet<Component_Name>Controller() is the Component Controller.
    So, in the same way, I was just wondering do we have any way to access the View Context through View Controller.
    Generally for view context, we use wdContext which is (= wdThis.wdGetContext() ) means accessing view context thr' view.
    i want to access View context thr' View Controller which is wdThis.wdGetAPI().
    Thanks....

    hi ,
    refer SAP online hep :
    Implementing Enhancements in a View
    http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/EN/46/233f2189f74f08e10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm
    To enhance the layout of the view, you can create new UI elements. This procedure is no different u2013 from a technical viewpoint u2013 from creating UI elements in components themselves. All UI elements created within the enhancement implementation can then be processed as usual.
    Enhancements  means inserting user developments into SAP development objects at predefined positions.
    The Enhancement Framework enables you to add functionality to standard SAP software without actually changing the original repository objects, and to organize these enhancements as effectively as possible.

  • Multithreading and static of wdDoModifyView in a view controller

    wdDoModifyView javadoc recommends to use a static variable of view controller (VC) to pass/publish a references of UI elements to event handlers of VC.
    it means then that different instances of VC serving different users share same static variable... i see here a problem, do not you?

    Armin Reichert: see TJA311 WebDynpro Part 1 Unit 10, example optional 1 solution  6-3,6-4 -))
    my new conclusion is that any UI elements should only be access in wdDoModifyView method
    the javadoc discourage from using instance fields not static fields but recommends not to use UIs outside of the method:
    Hook method called to modify a view just before rendering.
    This method conceptually belongs to the view itself, not to the
    controller (cf. MVC pattern).
    It is made static to discourage a way of programming that
    routinely stores references to UI elements in instance fields
    for access by the view controller's event handlers, and so on.
    The Web Dynpro programming model recommends that UI elements can
    only be accessed by code executed within the call to this hook method.

  • Call a view's method from Component Controller.

    Hi
    Is it possible to call a view's method from Component Controller.
    Regards
    Nikhil

    Hi Tummuru,
    I have created an event in Component Controller by the name toMenuView. Now I created a method in which this event is getting fired. Foll. is the code of the method.
      public void fireToMenuView( )
       wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess("fireToMenuView");
       wdThis.wdFireEventToMenuView();
    Now I have created an event handler "handleToMenuView" in the MenuView and subscribed the event handler to the event in Component Controller.
    The control is reaching to the fire event in component controller but not to the Event handler in view controller.
    What am I missing.
