View\Clean Up screws icon allignment

Hi everyone!
I have MAC OS X Mavericks 10.9.5
when I right-click "Clean-Up" in order to align my desktop icons to the grid
sometimes it works, but often it SORTS all my icons by name!!
Very annoying thing since I do have a lot of folders on my desktop
Anyone in here had expeienced this kind of issue?
Any advice to solve it?
Many Thanks
Michele
MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

You are welcome.
Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist.  Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Clean up desktop icons?

make icons clean up without clicking view clean up with finder?

+This works for me in Mac OS 10.4.11:+
    *tell application "Finder"*
    activate
    *tell application "System Events"*
    *tell process "Finder"*
    try
*click menu item "Clean Up Selection" of menu "View" of menu bar 1*
*click menu item "Clean Up" of menu "View" of menu bar 1*
    *end try*
    *end tell*
    *end tell*
    *end tell*
Note that the menu item under the Finder's View menu can be "Clean Up Selection" or simply "Clean Up" depending on whether some, all, or none of the desktop icons are actually selected at any given time (at least this is the case in Mac OS 10.4.x). Hence the two *click menu item* commands are included inside a Try block in order to catch one or the other of these possibilities.
The script requires GUI scripting to be turned on. Under System Preferences > Universal Access, make sure that "Enable access for assistive devices" is checked.
The script can be saved as an application and run from the Dock, or run from the Script Menu whether saved as an application or saved as a compiled script.
    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Automatic Clean Up of Icons

How do I disable this feature? It was automatically enabled when I attempted to sort my icons. I cannot undo it as the option is now greyed out. Is there a fix for this?

Incase my question was in anyway unclear, here is what I was attempting to get across:
    Align and sort items
You can change the alignment and organization of items on the desktop. Click the desktop, choose View > Clean Up, or Clean Up By, then select an option. Or, click Sort By, then select an option. For more information, see Align and resize icons.
After selecting the Clean Up By option as stated above, I am unable to undo that action. I can no longer move my files where I would like them situated without them automatically being moved for me. Perhaps I should contact Apple on this matter?

  • Dreamweaver 8.0.2 -- code view is totally screwed, so is design view. Split view works fine.

I just started having an extremely annoying issue in DW8-XP.
The code view is completely messed up. I can switch to code view,
but nothing is there. Just a ghost of the split view I was just in.
If I open a new file (like css file) in code view, I see a ghost of
the last view. Since css files don't have a split or design view,
I'm screwed. Cannot firgure out how to delete the config file. Do
you think this would help? Would it erase any settings I have
    currently set?
I tried switching to a default layout, restarting and all. No
    luck. Little help? :D

    Restart the system.

  • Crystal Reports Viewer XI R2 Missing icons on toolbar when displayed

I am using Crystal Reports Viewer XI R2 on Windows 2003 Server and trying to deploy to a different server.
I have deployed a new web site from a development server to production.  The crystal reports render correctly, but the only problem is that the icons for the viewer show "X".  I have tried the following:
Copy the aspnet_client folder (c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspnet_client) and all of itu2019s subfolders to the physical root directory of the custom web site.
If the above does not help, ensure that this is in the web.config of the application:
    <httpHandlers>
    <add verb="GET" path="CrystalImageHandler.aspx" type="CrystalDecisions.Web.CrystalImageHandler, CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=11.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>
    </httpHandlers>
Still see "X" in the view tool bar.

Your IIS logs show that the web server can't find the toolbar gif files. The first thing I'd do here is browse to this location using your IIS Manager. Find the next.gif file and right click it and select Browse. This will take your application out of the picture and will tell you if you can see this gif file on its own as processed by IIS.
If that doesn't work you likely have a permissions issue. Look at the security on the toolbar directory and see if the ASPNET or Network Service account have rights to read that directory. Also make sure the group IIS_WPG has access here too. You might even want to run the IIS Managers permissions wizard to clean up file permissions here.
Another thing you could try is creating a Virtual Directory that points to the original aspnet_client directory under C:\inetpub\wwwroot.
    Hopefully that helps. Good luck!

  • Automatically clean up folder icons

I have been copying over some photos over to my iMac. These were in quite a lot of folders. I like to have my folders arranged tidily. After the copying had finished, the folders were a bit untidy, and I cleaned them up by using the below keyboard shortcut.
I know I can use the keyboard short cut, option, cmd, 1. But I wondered if there was some setting that I'd overlooked that could keep all my folders arranged tidily automatically, without the need for me to do the keyboard shortcut?

Within a Folder in the finder show icon view.  Show View Options>

  • View always opens in Icon view, not Column view

    Hello,
I open Finder and it always opens in Icon view. I set it to open to Column and close Finder. When I reopen Finder, it opens in Icon again. I've tried trashing the Finder plist, repaired permissions, but nothing. Is there anything I can do to keep it opening the same way? It's pretty frustrating.
    Thanks.

    Hi Danielmak,
This Terminal command is not specifically related to Column View I'm afraid...
I don't fully understand what it does, but what I can tell you is that the script - for me & a few others - got rid of the common problem where the Finder-window only for the Macintosh HD (i.e. double-clicking on the Mac HD icon) always re-set back to Icon-View after a re-start, despite changing the window to List View and un-checking 'Always Open in Icon View' in View Options (Cmd+J).
I'm not sure I fully understand your problem, but..... You can have separate Finder-windows in different view-types (icon/list/column etc), BUT, the view-type does not automatically change between different types as you drill down into the folders in that particular window.
If you want a particular view-type & window-size to stick for each drive or folder on the desktop, you have to make your changes at the first level, then close the window... When you double-click again on that same drive, the view-type (don't forget to un-check the 'Always open in icon view' in View Options) & window position should be the same. If you drill down into the folders in that hard drive, & THEN make changes to view-type & window size, they will not stick (i.e. the next time you double-click on the HD icon, it will re-open in the originally-set position & view-type.)
Hope that helps. Apologies if I've misunderstood the question.
    All the best,
    Jason

Try another user account to see if it is only in your account.
Also, try starting in Safe Mode which will disable any third-party extensions that might be interfering.
If either of those prevent the issues, we can try to sort it out from there.

  • Viewing thumbnails instead of icons

I have CS4 Design Premium incl Photoshop CS4, and also Lightroom 2.6, both 64 bit. Operating system Win7 64 bit. Images taken in RAW format on a Nikon D90. I have downloaded the PS CS4 patch to open and work with Nikon RAW format and I can open the files (NEF Files) in both PS and LR. However I can only see the files as icons in my windows folders and pictures library and not thumbnails. JPEG's view OK as thumbnals. Can anyone help as my library of images is growing and without thumbnails I find it difficult to get to a particular file when I need to.

True although the OP is referring to NEF files.

  • Option to view bookmarks bar as icons in Safari?

This question has been asked many times by the community if you ever used internet explorer you have the option to view bookmarks or favorites as icons only this keeps it neat and tidy plus it is less clunky as safari has it now and then. This needs to be fixed as it it quite annoying to put up with and here are the reaseons why it should have a setting for this for view as icons only.
    1. When you click on the show all bookmarks bar bringing you to a bookmarks panel you obviously can see the icons on the bottom left of the page making it possible for the technicians to pull a couple of strings in the program when redesigning the bookmarks bar.
    2. If you veiwed the bookmarks bar you can see that its clunky and unorganized and with a touch of OCD in my viens its quite annoying and just too much for me to handle I rather prefer a simple icon to serfice rather than something like this (Youtube Pandora Twitter Yahoo Facebook ....) its not the best but I enjoy using Safari so much because its fast and flexible on computer with only a few minor hiccups I refuse to unistall it and plan to use it for a while.
    3. UPDATE AND FIX!!!

  • Clean up iPhone icons

I have a 3G iPhone with lots of apps.
Trouble is, there are gaps all over the place. Is there an easy way of cleaning up all the icons, so they all move back and fill empty spaces on previous app pages, so all the free space is on the end pages?

There's no one-button 'clean up' option. You have to move them individually. If you know how, stop reading here . If not:
Press and hold an app icon until the icons start shimmering. You can then drag an icon around the screen, or drag it to the next screen by dragging it off the left or right edge. Press the home key when you're done

  • Icon view in Finder windows do not autowrap

    I am using 10.5.1 on a 17" MBP 2.16 ghz.
Since installing Leopard, Icon view in Finder windows do not autowrap and Finder windows do not always remember their display preferences.
The Trash auto-wraps (the icons spread to take up the entire window if it is enlarged) But Opening a Folder in my default list view and switching to Icon view and then enarging the window only shows icons in the original window width. EG, If it were 3 colums of icons, it stays 3 columns of icons unless I use Clean Up TWICE and then I get 10 columns of icons which will wrap.
Is this a Leopard BUG or a local problem. Any suggestions on fixing it?
    TIA,
    Bill

Yeh - though I use cmd-J which I have used since it appeared, 10.1?
But I just solved my problem. In my use as defaults selection, I had Snap to Grid selected in the arrange by pop-up rather than by Name.
Selecting Name and clicking on Use as Defaults makes things work as expected.
Thanks for making me look closely!
    Cheers,
    Bill
