View instead of table

hi,
i have a typical task to do. I have a master table which gets its data from several other tables and some of it from flat files.
ex: Table Master(master_id, name, call_id, call_name, sub_name)
master_id from table M,
name from procedure p1 which takes master_id as input and gives name as output.
call_id, call_name from table C,
sub_name from procedure p2 which takes master_id, call_id as input and give sub_name as output.
the actual question is:
I need to eliminate this master table and create a view / package / procedure that has all the data of the master table (just that i don't need to depend on the master table)
the reason is its a pain to populate it manually(this is how it is done currently)
I just need some headstart to approach this problem
hope i did not make it too complicate to explain the question.
(FYI: working on oracle 10g)
thank You

i guess you will need to create some functions with the same kind of logic of the procedure you have for your P1 and P2. you can use that function in your select statement to create your views.

  • View, Clustur & Pooled Table

    Hi,
    I have few questions on the above topics.
    How can we retreive data from View , Clustur & Pooled Table using Select statements.
    If possible can you explain me with an example.
    what kind of data can we retreive from them . for example BSEC - how can we use it .
    Thank you in advance.
    Ry

    hi,
    You can access them using SELECT statements,  you CAN NOT use joins though.
    For example, BSEG is a cluster table.
    report znave_0003 .
    data: ibseg type table of bseg with header line.
    parameters: p_bukrs type bseg-bukrs.
    select * into table ibseg from bseg
            up to 100 rows
               where bukrs = p_bukrs.
    loop at ibseg.
      write:/ ibseg-bukrs, ibseg-belnr.
    endloop.
    to retrieve the data from a view....
    Declare the internal table with the type of View.
    Data : itab type table of zview001.
    or write select query as
    select * from zview001 into corresponding fields of itab.
    Also you can uncheck the Unicode checks active (checkbox) in the program attributes.
    {When you check that unicode checkbox, you should use an internal table without a header line. Instead you should declare a work area)
    Hope it helps...

  • View on DB Table

    I want to create a view on DB Table eg CSKS. Can anyone show me how to do this or Show me where I can find information to create view on DB Table.
    Thanks.

    hi anil,
    In database theory, a view is a virtual or logical table composed of the result set of a query. Unlike ordinary tables (base tables) in a relational database, a view is not part of the physical schema: it is a dynamic, virtual table computed or collated from data in the database. Changing the data in a table alters the data shown in the view.
    The result of a view is stored in a permanent table whereas the result of a query is displayed in a temporary table.
    Views can provide advantages over tables;
    They can subset the data contained in a table
    They can join and simplify multiple tables into a single virtual table
    Views can act as aggregated tables, where aggregated data (sum, average etc.) are calculated and presented as part of the data
    Views can hide the complexity of data, for example a view could appear as Sales2000 or Sales2001, transparently partitioning the actual underlying table
    Views take very little space to store; only the definition is stored, not a copy of all the data they present
    Depending on the SQL engine used, views can provide extra security.
    Views can limit the exposure to which a table or tables are exposed to the outer world
    Just like functions (in programming) provide abstraction, views can be used to create abstraction. Also, just like functions, views can be nested, thus one view can aggregate data from other views. Without the use of views it would be much harder to normalise databases above second normal form. Views can make it easier to create lossless join decomposition.
    Rows available through a view are not sorted. A view is a relational table, and the relational model states that a table is a set of rows. Since sets are not sorted - per definition - the rows in a view are not ordered either. Therefore, an ORDER BY clause in the view definition is meaningless and the SQL standard (SQL:2003) does not allow this for the subselect in a CREATE VIEW statement.
    Read-only vs. updatable views
    Views can be read-only or updatable. If the database system is able to determine the reverse mapping from the view schema to the schema of the underlying base tables, then the view is updatable. INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE operations can be performed on updatable views. Read-only views do not support such operations because the DBMS is not able to map the changes to the underlying base tables.
    Some systems support the definition of INSTEAD OF triggers on views. This technique allows the definition of logic that shall be executed instead of an insert, update, or delete operation on the views. Thus, data modifications on read-only views can be implemented. However, an INSTEAD OF trigger does not change the read-only or updatable property of the view itself.
    Advanced view features
    Various database management systems have extended the views from read-only subsets of data. The Oracle database introduced the concept of materialized views, which are pre-executed, non-virtual views commonly used in data warehousing. They are a static snapshot of the data and may include data from remote sources. The accuracy of a materialized view depends on the frequency or trigger mechanisms behind its updates. DB2 provides so-called materialized query tables (MQTs) for the same purpose. Microsoft SQL Server, introduced in the 2000 version, indexed views which only store a separate index from the table, but not the entire data.
    Equivalency:
    A view is equivalent to its source query. When queries are run against views, the query is modified. For example, if there exists a view named Accounts_view and the content is:
    accounts view:
    SELECT name,
           money_received,
           money_sent,
           (money_received - money_sent) AS balance,
           address,
      FROM table_customers c
      JOIN accounts_table a
        ON a.customerid = c.customer_id
    The application would simply run a simple query such as:
    Sample query
    SELECT name,
           balance
      FROM accounts_view
    The RDBMS then takes the simple query, replaces the equivalent view, then sends the following to the optimiser:
    Preprocessed query:
    SELECT name,
           balance
      FROM (SELECT name,
                   money_received,
                   money_sent,
                   (money_received - money_sent) AS balance,
                   address,
              FROM table_customers c JOIN accounts_table a
                   ON a.customerid = c.customer_id        )
    From this point on the optimizer takes the query, removes unnecessary complexity (i.e. it is not necessary to read the address, since the parent invocation does not make use of it) and then sends the query to the SQL engine for processing.
    thanks

  • View, instead of trigger and ORA-01031

    Hello,
    I have a view based on outer joins like
    CREATE VIEW vt ( colV1, colV2, colV3, colV4, colV5, colV6, colV7, colV8 ) AS
    SELECT A.colA1, A.colA2, C.colB0, B.colB2, B.colB3, B.colB4, C.colC2, H.colH2
      FROM  tabA    A
           ,tabB    B
           ,tabC    C
           ,( SELECT  ...
                FROM   tabD  D
                      ,tabE  E
                WHERE  D.colD1 = E.colE1
             )  H
      WHERE A.colA1 = B.colB1
        AND LTRIM(B.colB2,'A') = LTRIM(C.colC1(+),'A')
        AND B.colB3 = H.colH1(+); and an instead of trigger
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER vt_upd
      INSTEAD OF UPDATE ON vt
    BEGIN
      UPDATE    tabB
         SET    colB4 = :NEW.colV6
         WHERE  colB0 = :NEW.colV2;
    END;An now the problem: an update statement UPDATE vt set colV6=1 WHERE colV1=1; in SQL*Plus works as it should, but performing an update in APEX from a tabular or edit form shows an error: ORA-01031:ORA-01031: insufficient privileges, update...The strange thing: in both sessions there is the same user USER1 logged on !
    Why this difference ? Can anybody explain ?
    Regards,
    Heinz

    Hi Heinz,
    Your statement -
    what I wrote as table tabC in reality is a view to one table and one view in another schema.That'll be it, you need to grant explicit rights for the objects in that schema to the schema that is your parsing schema for your workspace.
    In other words, if you have -
    1) Workspace 'A' with parsing schema 'B'
    and you are trying to do -
    select foo from c.bar
    i.e. you're trying to query an object in schema 'C'.
    Then you need to (as a DBA or connected to schema C) -
    grant select on bar to b;Roles won't work (when used through APEX)...I can't say that any other way, you might find it works in SQLPlus with roles, but through APEX it won't...you need those explicit grants.
    Hope this makes sense.
    John.

  • MATERIALIZED view on two tables with Fast Refresh

    i Wanted to create MV on two tables with Fast refresh on commit.

    create materialized view log on t1 WITH PRIMARY KEY, rowid;
    create materialized view log on t2 WITH PRIMARY KEY, rowid;
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW ETL_ENTITY_DIVISION_ASSO_MV
    REFRESH fast ON commit

    from t1 A
    join t2 b
    on AB.c1= CD.c2;
    i am getting below error.
    Error report:

    commit time.
    *Action:   Specify only valid options.
    Basically i want to take record in MV by joinig two tables and if both of the base tables will updated then record should reflect in materialised view.
    Please do the needfull.

    does the table support PCT? the other restrictions on joins look to be ok in your statement.
    maybe try creating first with on demand instead of commit to see does it create.

    >
    Materialized Views Containing Only Joins
    Some materialized views contain only joins and no aggregates, such as in Example 8-4, where a materialized view is created that joins the sales table to the times and customers tables. The advantage of creating this type of materialized view is that expensive joins will be precalculated.
    Fast refresh for a materialized view containing only joins is possible after any type of DML to the base tables (direct-path or conventional INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE).
    A materialized view containing only joins can be defined to be refreshed ON COMMIT or ON DEMAND. If it is ON COMMIT, the refresh is performed at commit time of the transaction that does DML on the materialized view's detail table.
    If you specify REFRESH FAST, Oracle performs further verification of the query definition to ensure that fast refresh can be performed if any of the detail tables change. These additional checks are:
    A materialized view log must be present for each detail table unless the table supports PCT. Also, when a materialized view log is required, the ROWID column must be present in each materialized view log.
    The rowids of all the detail tables must appear in the SELECT list of the materialized view query definition.
    If some of these restrictions are not met, you can create the materialized view as REFRESH FORCE to take advantage of fast refresh when it is possible. If one of the tables did not meet all of the criteria, but the other tables did, the materialized view would still be fast refreshable with respect to the other tables for which all the criteria are met.

  • Trouble Creating View on External Table in Diff Schema

    I am unable to create a view in a different schema on an external table in a different schema, even when I am connected to my database as SYS as SYSDBA.
    CREATE VIEW WH1.EXT1VIEW AS SELECT * FROM WH1.EXT1VIEW;
    returns the error:

    SQL> select count(*) from wh1.ext1;

    However when I try to create a view on that table connected as SYS:
    CREATE VIEW WH1.EXT1VIEW AS SELECT * FROM WH1.EXT1VIEW;
    I get the following error:

    I can connect over to the WH1 schema and create the view successfully, however due to a specific situation I need to be able to create the view from the SYS schema. I can create the view FORCE and it creates with compilation errors, however the view cannot be compiled successfully from SYS.
    Is there a known bug on creating views on external tables remotely?
    Thanks for any help!

    I have been able to reproduce your error, using scott instead of sys, and resolve it, as demonstrated below. The combination that I found that worked consisted of having wh1 grant select on ext1 to scott explicitly and using set current_schema to wh1, so that ext1view did not require the wh1 qualifier.

  • Universe design on Database Views Vs. on Tables

    Hi,
    I am builidng a universe over oracle database. The warehouse has both tables and views. Some of the reports we will be creating are based on the tables for which views are created. It would be my call to to choose the reporting too (webi or crystal).
    I want to know what will be the best approach. Whether creating universe which has database views affect the report performance?(As it will add additional layer. Universe > View > Actual table) If yes, then will it be feasible to go for Crystal Reports instead of webi?
    Regards,
    Chetashri

    There are two points which you have to think.
    1. Either crystal or Webi
       a) Generally, we prefer Crystal report when Business users want to have pixel perfect reporting. Enterprise reports such as generla ledger, transactions and so on we prefer Crystal Report.
       Cyrstal report has lot of options which helps us to create reporting which is impossible in other tools as possible in Crystal.
       b) WebI reports very flexible and easy to create reports. Not as flexible as compared to Cyrstal. But most of the reporting capabilities are available in WebI. Mostly, first I try to build the report in webI. If the tool is not sufficient or capable of creating that report, I go for Crystal.
    But WebI reports are preferrable.
    2. Peformance with Table or View
    There is no big difference now  between view and table when view refers only single table because of optimization strategies available in oracle database.
    But when a view refers mutlple tables in its definition, there is little edge for view with respect to performance because View optimizations calculated by oracle in advance.
    But you could use Tables or views vice versa if there is less data.
    Steps for creating reports either from views or tables are same. Instead of view you could use tables and Instead of tables you could use views.
    Hope this helps

  • Dynamically assigning query/view to a table

    Hi All,
    i want to assign a view to a table dynamically in WAD as per certain condition, can any 1 tell me how to do this?
    thanks in advance
    Godhuli

    Just a thought
    Instead of assigning query dynamically is it possible that you will have tables with different queries as dataprovider and at run time you can show only the required table and other tables you can hide.
    Unfortunately my WAD is not working so I am just giving a pseudo code.Please don't blame me for syntax errors.Please Paste this code between <\BODY> and
    <\HTML>.
    You can write a script like this
    <script>
    var obj;
    var tablobj;
    obj = findobject("option_1");
    HideTables();
    if (obj.value == 1)
       tablobj = findobject("TABLE_1");
       tablobj.style.display = "show";
    if (obj.value == 2)
       tablobj = find_object("TABLE_2");
       tablobj.style.display = "show";
    function findobject(objname)
    var all = document.all;
    for( var i=0;i<all.length;i++ ){
    if (all<i>.name==objname)//we have found object
    return all<i>;
    return null;
    function HideTables()
    var all = document.getElementsByTagName("table");
    for( var i=0;i<all.length;i++ )
    all<i>.style.display = "hidden";
    <\script>

  • Is there an RI that uses div s for layout instead of table s?

    I am using Struts Tiles, DWR, script.acu.lous drag and drop and JSF.
    So, my problem is that since I have incorporated <f:verbatim>, the page is being rendered incorrectly and I don't know how to recombine it back to look like it should. The layout I am doing has a header at top, left hand column for navigation and content well in the middle. Essentially, this boils down to, in JSF, a table row with one table data element for the header and one table row with two table data elements for the nav and content. In the content well, it utlizes a JSF subview with JSF components and then below this a JSF subview with a JSF <f:verbatim>. On the pages that I don't use <f:verbatim>, the layout renders correctly. The rendering problem is that when the markup is rendered, the <f:verbatim> tag is rendered outside the <f:view> with the other JSF subview in the content rendered correctly in the layout. In other words, the whole page except the <f:verbatim> is rendered in a <table>. I understand, from an onjava article, the JSP and JSF rendering occurs in parallel and I am guessing this might be the problem. The page is rendering now with the header in the right place, the nav not behaving like it used to but in the correct place, the portion of the content that is a bunch of JSF components is located to the right of the nav. The <f:verbatim> that should be rendered directly below the JSF components on the content page and to the right of the nav is rendered under both the nav and JSF components outside the <table>.
    Is there a RI that uses divs to do layout instead of tables?
    OR
    How can I get the <f:verbatim> back into the flow of the page so everything is lined up correctly?
    Please feel free to yell at me if this is addressed in another thread. I will search for it if this is the case. I haven't had the time to do a thorough search.
    Regards,
    Dan
    sidenote: Using tables for layout is not considered good web design. There are plenty of sites that illustrate use of CSS for layout. I find this a little strange since Sun is always promoting best practices and then it doesn't embrace other industry best practices. This seems more like a MS bullying tactic, but maybe Sun and MS are one in the same.

    Cool. That is a great move. The only concern I have now is that there aren't any containers out that support JSP 2.1 and Servlet 2.5 to enable JSF 1.2 except for glassfish. I am using tomcat and not a heavy weight application server. I couldn't find a roadmap on Apache either for Tomcat to know when they will be coming out with Tomcat 6 I imagine. Is there an article or tutorials out yet that demonstrate how to markup a page with the new specification? That yould help. The more I think about using custom components, the more I lean towards using the standard.
    Thanks for the heads up. Now I have to think about setting up glassfish and migrating from tomcat unless there is other news I am unaware of =P.

  • [ADF Help] How to create a view for multiple tables

    Hi,
    I am using Jdeveloper 11G and ADF framework, and trying to create a view to update multiple tables.
    ex:
    Table A has these fields: ID, Name
    Table B has these fields: ID, Address
    A.ID and B.ID are primary keys.
    B.ID has FK relationship with A.ID
    (basically, these tables have one-to-one relation)
    I want to create a view object, which contains these fields: B.ID (or A.ID), A.Name, B.Address.
    So I can execute C,R,U,D for both tables.
    I create these tables in DB, and create entity objects for these tables.
    So there are 2 entity objects and 1 association.
    Then I create a view object based on B and add fields of A into the view:
    If the association is not a "Composition Association",
    when I run the model ("Oracle Business Component Browser") and try to insert new data, fields of A can't edit.
    If the association is a "Composition Association", and click the insert button, I will get
    "oracle.jbo.InvalidOwnerException: JBO-25030: Failed to find or invalidate owning entity"
    If I create a view object based on A and add filed of B into the view:
    When I run the model and try to insert new data, fields of B can't edit, no matter the association is or is not a composition association.
    So... how can I create a view for multiple tables correctly?
    Thanks for any advices!
    Here are some pictures about my problem, if there is any unclear point, please let me know.

    Hi Branislav,
    Thanks, but the result is same ....
    In the step 2 of creating view object, I can select entity objects to be added in to the view.
    If I select A first, and then select B (the "Source Usage" of B is A), then finishing the wizards.
    When I try to create a new record in the view, I can't edit any properties of B (those files are disabled).
    If I select B first, and then select A in crating view object, the result is similar ...
    Thanks for any further suggestion.

  • Ability to query on all columns from a view with multiple tables

    I have view with 4 tables. view has about 50 columns.
    hypothetically, I want to build a form to give the user an ability to query on any of those 50 columns. user can search on one or more fields.
    what is the best way to write the query to retrieve the results without performance impact.
    please let me know if the question is not clear.

    If you want to permit them to query any of 10 fields with no restrictions, you could create 10 separate single-column indexes. The optimizer would have to try to pick the best of these indexes if you specified multiple search criteria. But since you have a view which presumably means that you've got multiple other indexes involved for the underlying join conditions, you'd probably want/need to combine the column lists of the indexes you're adding for searches with the indexes you've created for joins, which requires looking at the text of the view and figuring out the best way to optimize the 10 single-column searches. Of course, it is possible that the optimizer could chose to do something like a b-tree to bitmap conversion on multiple indexes which could allow it to use multiple independent indexes for your queries, but that's generally not ideal performance-wise.
    All this is a fancy way of saying that there probably isn't a cut and dried answer to your question. You need to figure out the queries you're trying to optimize (say, the 10 single-condition queries) and you need to figure out what set of indexes on the various underlying tables provides the best performance weighing those benefits against the cost on other side of maintenance during DML. Which is going to depend on the text of the view, the underlying tables, the existing indexes, etc.

    You can increase the font size and automatically page view changes. Go to menubar; Reading -> PDF View or Epub Text Size (depending upon the ebook) and increase the size.

  • Is there a way to view all the table names in a certain schema?

    Is there a way to view all the table names in a certain schema?

    SELECT table_name FROM user_tablesThat won't do much good given this piece of information:
    i am trying to finish a lab for school but i don't know what tables are in my
    professor's schema. The appropriate solution is
    SELECT table_name
    FROM all_tables
    WHERE owner = 'PROFESSOR_YAFFLE'
    /This will show the names of the tables which Prof. Yaffle has granted to us.

  • View dependent on table

    hello gurus
    i'm running oracle 8.1.7.4. . we can describe a view but I need to know how can we find out on which tables a view is based on and what 's it's definition
    Thanks

    Hi,
    >>I need to know how can we find out on which tables a view is based on
    In addition, you can also make use of the *_DEPENDENCIES data dictionary views in order to list informations about direct dependencies and dependency among some schema objects.
    e.g:
    LEGATTI@ORACLE10> create table t1 (id1 number);
    Table created.
    LEGATTI@ORACLE10> create table t2 (id2 number);
    Table created.
    LEGATTI@ORACLE10> create view my_view as select id1,id2 from t1,t2;
    View created.
    LEGATTI@ORACLE10> select * from user_dependencies where name='MY_VIEW';
    NAME        TYPE    REFERENCED_OWNER   REFERENCED_NAME   REFERENCED_TYPE
    MY_VIEW     VIEW    LEGATTI            T1                TABLE
    MY_VIEW     VIEW    LEGATTI            T2                TABLE          Cheers
