View objects in remote database

Hi all,
Could anyone tell me how to view all tables in a remote database? I've created a db link to that remote database already. I'm trying to find one particular table.

Problem while accessing object in remote database

We have a procedure "UPDATE_CONV_DETAILS" created in the remote databse in the "apps" schema. The synonym for the procedure is created in the billing schema(present in the remote database). A dblink is created the local database through which we are tring to access the remote object "UPDATE_CONV_DETAILS".
Dblink script:
create public database link PRE_TO_CEL
connect to BILLING
identified by BILLING
using 'MAP1';
When trying to access the object from the local machine using the schema name.object_name it works fine:
SQL> DESC APPS.UPDATE_CONV_DETAILS@PRE_TO_CEL

You have two schema.
apps
billing
both reside in remote database.
there on procedure and on procedure u create one synonym and u want to access it.
ur remote database name is "map1"
on ur local database ur create one dblink to access remote database.
ORA-04043: object string does not exist
Cause: An object name was specified that was not recognized by the system. There are several possible causes:
- An invalid name for a table, view, sequence, procedure, function, package, or package body was entered. Since the system could not recognize the invalid name, it responded with the message that the named object does not exist.
- An attempt was made to rename an index or a cluster, or some other object that cannot be renamed.
Action: Check the spelling of the named object and rerun the code. (Valid names of tables, views, functions, etc. can be listed by querying the data dictionary.)

I am not getting the error exactly. But have some suggestion:
If the schema owner does not own the master tables, then the schema owner must have the GLOBAL QUERY REWRITE privilege or the QUERY REWRITE object privilege on each table outside the schema.

Query Rewrite to Utilize Materialized Views on a Remote Database

We have our materilized views stored at a remote database. Is there a way to utilize query rewrite to rewrite the queries issued on the local database such that queries will refer the materialized views at a remote db?
From the documentation, I already know that the base tables for MVs and MVs should eside in the same instance or the query should be submitted on the instance where MVs reside if base tables are residing in a different remote DB to benefit from query rewrite.
My aim is to utilize query rewrite to reduce the workload on a primary database by passing queries that can be rewritten to use MVs on a remote DB.

what I'm trying to do is to get a record from a database and show it to the user on the initiator UI using ADF BC and not the Database Adapter.
I have been able to work with ADF BC and View Objects to get all the rows and show them to the user in a table.
However, when I try to run the same query in the parameterized form to just return a single row, I hit a wall.
In short, My problem is like this:
I have an Application Module which has an entity object and a view object.
My database is SQL Server 2008.
when I try to create a new read only view object to return a single row I face the problem.
The query I have in the query section of my View Object is like this:
select *
from dbo.Employee
where EmployeeCode= 99which works fine.
However when I define a bind variable, input_code for example, and change the query to the following it won't validate.
select *
from dbo.Employee
where EmployeeCode= :input_codeIt just keeps saying

I don't know if this has to do with my DB not being Oracle or I'm doing something wrong.
Can someone help me with this problem please?

I have created a class in the java class section of my view object which has two methods related to the bind variable input_empCode:
getinput_empcode and setinput_empcode , as expected.
however any code i try to put in those two would not be called at all!

Tuning Tree View Object (10g)

Hi all,
Description:
I have a tree/form layout which is based on two view objects: one for the parent level and the other for children. These two view objects based on database table with more than 1000 records.
For tuning I did the following:
As the number of parent nodes was about 15 nodes, I set the number of retrieved rows per patch to 15 in the parent view object and 1000 to the children view object
Problem:
The performance of this page is very slow:
1- It takes about 8 seconds to expand all tree nodes
2- It takes about 20 seconds to collapse all tree nodes
3- It takes about 8 seconds to select a node while the tree is collapsed
4- It takes about 12 seconds to select a node while the tree is expanded
Any suggestions?

the tree binding in ADF Faces 10.1.3 doesn't support pageranging, which is what would make it faster. However, I am surprised that closing the folder takes long as well. I suggest to contact customer support (metalink.oracle.com) wit a testcase

Is there a way to force a view object to always scan the database table to read the latest data?
Here's my use case.
I have a page that loads data then I have a button which executes the following code.

I am not sure but is there some configuration to check so that when the viewobject executes it will always query the data
from the table?
I am thinking that there is some level of caching and I want to disable it. If I restart my application, I notice that it is able to read the latest data.

By default a view object performs its query against the database to retrieve the rows in its resulting row set. However, you can also use view objects to perform in-memory searches and sorting to avoid unnecessary trips to the database.

ADF (View Object) with open source database

Recently, I am evaluating JDeveloper 9.0.5.2 ADF with an open source database (Firebird).
I follow the instruction to:
1. Create an entity object
2. Create a view object for the entity object in 1
3. Create an application module for the view object in 2
4. Right click on the application module and test -> all worked fine
5. I created a jsp and drag the view (in 2) to it from Data Control Palette
6. Test it in OC4J -> an error occurred (not because of jdbc config)

To my knowledge, the error should be due to Firebird doesn't support the query syntax " select * (select col1, col2... from table) QRSLT where... order by... "
I am quite headache as this query is automatically generated by JDeveloper. I am figuring out whether I can change it. It seems that I have to play with the ViewObjectImpl class.
I do think ADF is an amazing technology. However, is it only so amazing with the Oracle technologies? Please correct me if I am wrong.

I then downloaded the MySQL 4.0 and install on my system to do the exact procedures. No error! Thing works fine! Oh man...
For the Firebird case, a strange thing to note is that the data table (I dragged) contains data, but the error message is on top of it.
Actually, I don't have a particular database preference but I do hope ADF can work equally for these open-source databases. I think the problem may also be contributed by Firebird. Hope that I can figure it out this week.

Is the best practice to use database views or view objects?

Hi everyone,
If the option is available, is it preferable consolidate as much data as possible into a database view instead of doing this through view view objects? It seems the answer would be yes, but I would like to hear the pros and cons related to performance, etc.
While I do not mind a detailed discussion, practical "rule-of-thumb" advice is what I am after; I am a newbie that needs general guidelines - not theories.

Performance is the main driver behind the question because I am wondering if it is faster to send a single large record set across a network or several small ones and "assemble" them at the client level.
Probably is better to send one large record, but you will need to take in account time required to create this one large record in db(maybe oracle object types, or arrays of oracle object types).
Check this for some VO performance advices: Advanced View Object Techniques (especially property: "In Batches Of" which defines number of roundtrips between app server and db)
As far as creating an updatable database view, I know there are minor tricks that are required to make that happen from a strictly SQL standpoint. But, I am curious the best way to go in JDeveloper.

Should ADF Entity Object Map to Database Table or View?

We are building a new 3-tier JClient/ADF application. We have mapped most entity objects directly to database tables. Now that we are preparing to deploy, our DBA is angry; he believes that all entity objects should be mapped to database views. The developers see this as a headache, UML can not forward/reverse changes, and now we have another layer of abstraction, which doesn't seem to serve a useful purpose. What is the best practice in a new 3-tier application?

I'm still having problems but I found out why these tables are returning errors. The username I've been given by the DBA to connect to the database is CONSULTA, but this user is only for querying purposes, the actual objects reside on a differente schema, of course, which is PROD. So the line:
"CONSULTA"."ESTADOS"@"PROD@AYADEV_LOCATION" "ESTADOS"
raises an exception because the table ESTADOS is not located on that schema, but on PROD. If I query the table from SQL Plus with:
SELECT *
FROM [email protected]@AYADEV_LOCATION
then there's no problem at all.
Why is this? How do I instruct OWB to point to the correct schema or to avoind fully qualifying the table name?
Please help me, I'm kind of confused here.

When we are trying to use JPublisher in JDeveoper we are not
able to view the oracle objects in the database browser of the
connection.
The option 'object types' itself is not getting displayed.
What could be the reason for this problem ?

How to view all tables and column names from a remote database

I have a database in a remote server. I have the db link and the schema name.. Now i want to view all the tables in the remote database with column names.. I dont have access to that database using sql developer.. But i can view some tables using the db link..Is there any way i can view all the tables with the column names?

Database trigger causes "TooManyObjectsException JBO-25013" in view object

Hi all,
I have two tables in a parent - child relationship. Each has it's entity and view object with appropriate associations and links. The parent table has an insert trigger which inserts default rows into the child table when a new parent row is created.
So the sequence is as follows:
1) User has view of parent and child tables on one form.
2) Clicks on parent table row, associated child rows are displayed in child table.
3) User clicks on Insert button on parent table nav bar.
4) User enters data and clicks the Commit button on parent table nav bar.
5) BC4J framework goes off into the JUNavigationBar.actionPerformed() method.
6) Next thing I see is the error below:
oracle.jbo.TooManyObjectsException: JBO-25013: Too many objects match the primary key oracle.jbo.Key[2210 ].
I have confirmed that if I disable the trigger the problem goes away. I also tried clearing the cache on the child table just before the JUNavigationBar.actionPerformed() but it does not help.
I suspect that the VO gets confused by the rows inserted by the trigger when it reloads the data during the last phases of the commit.
How do I get around this problem??
Any suggestions welcome. I'm desperate at this stage!

Let me know when you have a testcase you can email.- unfortunatelly, we cannot reproduce this behavior by using the FOD/Fussion schema with the BrowseEdit demo application (from the Cue cards), everything works as expected.
After making an analogue trigger on our working schema, this error behaviour still repeats. But, here is our stack trace, maybe this can help. Note addForAltKey(...) bellow, we have one Alternate key. On the other hand, here is part from "Developer quide":
Whenever any of the key attribute values change, this rule validates that the new key
does not belong to any other entity object instance of this entity object class. (It is the

ACS View 5 Remote Database

The online help and PDF doc seem a little vague about the remote database feature....I'm wondering whether it will write the entire View database every time or just the new data?
I notice the scheduled jobs is called Export which sounds like it might do the entire db. But, since you can go right down to 1hr intervals it would seem more logical for only new records to be exported - espcially if the database is large.

It is the delta of data that is exported at each interval
Note only a subset of the monitoring and reporting tables are exported.

Remote Database connection error on local database while running a procedur

Dear Gurus,
I am trying to run a procedure to grant Select Access to all objects of a schema to all schema but getting below error messages:
Error report:
ORA-02019: connection description for remote database not found
This is on local database and all required privileges have been given to run this procedure but I dont understand why this error is being thrown every time. I am able to fetch all the tables directly (i.e. SELECT object_name FROM user_objects where OBJECT_TYPE IN('TABLE','VIEW','MATERIALIZED VIEW') AND STATUS='VALID')
Kindly let me know if you have any solution.

Hi,
It seems you are fetching records from one database to other. for that you need to create dblink for that.
Create dblink first and then try to fetch records using that dblink.
ORA-02019: connection description for remote database not found
Cause: An attempt was made to connect or log in to a remote database using a connection description that could not be found.
Action: Specify an existing database link. Query the data dictionary to see all existing database links. See your operating system-specific Net8 documentation for valid connection descriptors.
