Viewing java code in Eclipse

This question of mine is not directly related to Java but I couldnt find a better place to post this question. I have a java application contained in 2 zip files. I am viewing the files in eclipse. I created a project and extracted both the zip files here. But now, when I open a file to view the code, red lines show all over. When I scroll my mouse on top of the element it shows errors like this:
ServletException cannot be resolved to a type
HttpServletRequest cannot be resolved to a type
HttpServletResponse cannot be resolved to a type
The method init() is undefined for the type Object
The method destroy() is undefined for the type ObjectI know I can view the code in a simple java editor too, but I am using Eclipse as I want to learn. Can someone please tell me what could be the problem??
Thanks
Mick

well, obviously the servlet classes are not found in this jar.
remember that my jar is servlet.jar without the "s" as opposed to yours.
i'm sure you can download the servlet.jar from suns site somewhere. google for
servlet + java + tutorial
and you'll find the prerequisites, including getting this jar.
btw, you mentioned that you have code for an application. a servlet is not exactly an application. are you sure, that you want to work with that servlet?
as i said, to run it, you'll need a web server and servlet container.
if you want to get to know eclipse then you might work on an ordinary application.

  • How to configure the work manager java code to eclipse?

    Hello all,
                   I am working with the syclo work manager app. I have successfully installed all components required.
                   I imported the work manager mobile application and I want to import the standard work manager java code, what is the process to import java code into work space.
                   Guide me with some screen shots.
                   When I try to start the WM server it is giving me the following error:
    How to resolve the error.
    Please anyone provide me complete setup needed to run the work manager app smoothly.
    Please guide me.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Swaroopa.

    Swaroopa,
    That error is telling you the SAP JCo library cannot find one of the needed DLLs on the system.  The sapjco.jar loads two additional DLL files (sapjcorfc.dll and librfc32.dll).  Both should be installed by default into your ServerDev directory (assuming you are running Agentry 6.0.x).
    I would guess it is having trouble loading the librfc32.dll based on the message but confirm both are in the correct location.

  • How to display pdf file with java code?

    Hi All,
    i have a jsp pagein that page if i click one icon then my backing bean method will call and that method will create pdf document and write some the content in that file and now i want to display that generated pdf document.
    it should look like you have pressed one icon and it displayed pdf file to you to view.
    java code below:
    FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ExternalContext ec = fc.getExternalContext();
    HttpServletResponse resp = (HttpServletResponse) ec.getResponse();
    resp.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "filename=\"" + temppdfFile);
    resp.encodeRedirectURL(temppdfFile.getAbsolutePath());
    resp.setContentType("application/pdf");
    ServletOutputStream out = resp.getOutputStream();
    ServletUtils.returnFile(temppdfFile, out);
    out.flush();
    and above temppdfFile is my generated pdf file.
    when i am executing this code, it was opening dialog box for save and cancel for the file, but the name of the file it was showing me the "jsp file name" with no file extention (in wich jsp file i am calling my backing bean method) and type is "Unknown File type" and from is "local host"
    it was not showing me open option so i am saving that file then that file saved as a pdffile with tha name of my jsp file and there is nothing in that file(i.e. empty file).
    what is the solution for this. there is any wrong in my code.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks in advance
    Indira

    This is my action method which will call when ever i press a button in my jsp page.
    This method will create the barcode for the given barcode number and write that barcode image in pdf file
    (i saw that pdf file which i have created through my above method, This PDF file opening when i was opening manually and the data init that is also correct means successfully it writes the mage of that barcode)
    This method taking the jsp file to open because as earlier i said it was trying to open unknown file type document and i saved that file and opended with editplus and that was the jsp file in which file i am calling my action method I mean to say it was not taking the pdf file which i have created above it was taking the jsp file

  • Where to place java code in webdynpro for communicating between views

    Hi Friends,
    Where should I put the Java code on click of button for the action.
    I can out in init() method, or in teh onActon methods.
    I think suppose I have two views view1 and view2
    on click of one button on view1, user shoudl see results on another view.
    for that I think best is to put data accesing logic for view2--in onAction of view1 itself.

    I've been looking at my examples,  you can do it either way.  In one example, I have coded the logic in the Inbound Plug method on the Result view.  In another example, I am doing the logic in the onAction method when the user presses the button on the Start view.
    I'm thinking it may be better to do it in the onAction method, but it really depends on the overall functionality of the application.

  • How to view the java code of the message mapping,

    Hi Experts,
    <b>how to view the java code of the message mapping,</b>
    how to get the background java code of the message mapping(graphical mapping).
    And where to view it?

    Hi sowmya,
    Open any  Message mapping in IR. Press <b>CtrlShift0(zero)</b> to open a new menu.
    There you will find an option "Is Java Source Code Available?"
    There will be an export button nearby. Use it to get the code.
    Open it in a zip , you will see the hide java code.
    The JAVA code for graphical msg mapping is in below folder:
    \usr\sap\<SID>\<DVEBMGS10>\j2ee\cluster\server0\temp\classpath_resolver
    Here all the mapping jars are there in this folder.
    Just decompile these jars and you can see the code.

  • Viewing javadoc's in eclipse

    Hello, just a quick one...
    When using eclipse, if i click on a class name which is in the standard API then i can view the javadoc through eclipse, how can i set this up so i can view it for non standerd classes, which come with the source code and or javadocs in a seperate file?
    Thanks for any help

    Select your project, then navigate to Project > Properties; select 'Java Build Path' and select the tab 'Libraries'; select the .jar file you want to attach javadocs for (expand it) and select the option 'Javadoc location'; select the directory where the (API) docs are stored and voila.

  • Java code coverage tool for Java Card?

    Hello,
    I am looking for "Java code coverage tool" that can be used for testing Java Card Applets.
    Has anyone tried EMMA<http://emma.sourceforge.net/> with JCWDE, or other tools?
    Any information appreciated.
    ichara

    JCOP Tools 3.0 for Eclipse 2.1 support code coverage with the JCOP simulations for Java Card 2.1. The newest JCOP41 simulation for Java Card 2.2.1 does not yet have this feature.
    Code coverage information is shown in the Profiling view, when it is enabled in the Launch Configuration. The editor also shows colored bars next to source lines to quickly identify dead code.

  • How to ident Javafx code in Eclipse?

    I am getting pretty frustrated and getting pretty irritated with Javafx. I can't format Javafx code like I format all java codes ! (in Eclipse)
    How do I set a "Formatter Code Style Profile" for Javafx code as I do with java codes ? Is it plugin's fault ? If it is ... is there any other way of doing that ? ...just to mention I can't do it either in Netbeans. Netbeans sucks !
    What is the bind provided to import packadges I'm using when programming ? Is there any ?
    Is there anything that really works on Javafx or it's only marketing !? just because I can compile the examples it doesn't mean it can do everything it's been said it's capable of. Actually not even 30% of it's being said.
    Where is all documentation we need to know about what packadges we can or can't use while writting an aplicattion for mobile ?
    Is there any real device that really runs Javafx coming soon? or it's again ......... just MAAAAAAAAAAAAARCKETING ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Has !? When ? When?
    Ok, I've just summarized some of the many question that keeps poping up in my mind everytime I try doing something with this crappy language. If you are having the same problem or think Javafx developers are more worried about announcing the tecnology then making it capable of promisses pls comment this post. I do really wanna know everyone's opinion.

You have to click on Common to restrict the view to the classes usable in Mobile applications (eg. no javafx.ext.swing, no javafx.scene.effect...).
    I haven't tried Eclipse plugin yet, I code with a simple (but good) text editor and I always care for right indentation from the start...

  • How do I compile a java file in eclipse

    Hi,
    I have just installed eclipse and added a plugin for tomcat.
    I created a new tomcat project and have been trying out several jsp files. Everything nice and dandy.
    Now there is a bean in the tutorial that I am doing. So I use the context menu, new->class.
    A file is created in the src folder. I copied the source code from the tutorial in it.
    Now I have been looking everywhere but can not find a menu option that lets me compile it.
    How does that work. I hope this is the right forum for such basic questions.
    Thank you very much.

    As far as I know, the java code is compiled in Eclipse as soon as you save it. i.e. press CTRL+SHIFT+s
    as far as the build is concerned, in case you have a build file where you specify how to make a jar file, the location the jsr file is to be placed, only then you have to build the project. However again, as far as just simple compile is concerned as soon as you save the files are compiled. And show you the errors if any in the tasks window.

    Btw, I think this forum is not visited often by JCO and ABAP connectivity experts, so maybe you could get a faster response to your problems while posting in "Java Programming" or maybe in some forum under the category ABAP Development.

  • Query using the SQL 'go' command  on a JAVA code

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a new database on MS SQL and at the same time verify whether the data base exist already and then add a new table. The query statement works well on the query windows on MS SQL, but when the query is place using a JAVA code it gives the following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near 'go'.
    java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near 'go'.

         at DataBaseCreator.main(DataBaseCreator.java:30)
    I have to add that if I only query: "CREATE DATABASE NameOfDatabase" the new data base is created without a problem using JAVA, but when I try to use the following query, I got the error message.
    "USE Master "
                        + "IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM SysDatabases WHERE NAME='DatesTemps') "
                        + " DROP DATABASE DatesTemps"
                        + " go "

    Ok, first of all thanks for your answer, now what I want to do is the following:
    1) I need to input ((retrieve) every minute some data (Date and Temperature), that I will get from and external device, this is not part of this code.
    2) I want to store that data (Date and Temp) on a data base, here where I need the command to create the data base and to verify whether that data base already exists. In case it has already been created then create new table(s) on it. If it doesn't exist then create and then create new tables.
    3) Each Day (at yyyy mm dd 00:00:00:000 will create a new table, and the name of this table will be yyyymmdd.
    4) Then every minute the java code will retrieve the data and add it to the table in the data base.
    5) That will be a close loop that will be running until the user interrupt it.
    I haven't make the communication code yet, in order to test my code I was thinking to retrieve the data from another data base. This would be just to verify that the JAVA sequence is able to retrieve the data every minute and create new data base and tables.
    For the record I am able to send the queries and retrieve information from SQL running the code in eclipse, that will cover your first observation.
    I am quite new in the forum I am sorry I didn't get the use of code tags.
    Sorry again as I said I am quite new on this, what's a DDL statement.
    Thanks.

  • Show errors on UIX page from Java code?

    Hello all:
    I've got a simple Login page in Jdev 10g (9.0.5.2) that I'm setting up. The basics work fine -- if I type in a valid login/password, it works. If I type in an incorrect login/password, it loops back to the login page. The problem is that I can't seem to get my Invalid Login error message to appear.
    The loginPage.uix is based on a template. The template contains the following code:
    <messages>
    <messageBox automatic="true" />
    </messages>
    as a named child inside a <pageLayout> UIX node. The login page is:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252"?>
    <page xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/controller"
    xmlns:ui="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui"

    <!-- Add EventHandlers (<event> elements) here -->
    <event name="goLogin">

    </page>
    My Java code is:
    public class LoginAction extends DataAction
    public void findForward(DataActionContext actionContext) throws Exception
    HttpServletRequest request = actionContext.getHttpServletRequest();
    HttpSession session = request.getSession();
    ActionErrors errors = actionContext.getActionErrors();
    String target = "fail";
    //Get the result of the Model Method Call
    JUCtrlActionBinding method = actionContext.getCustomMethod();
    boolean successfulLogon = ((Boolean)method.getResult()).booleanValue();
    Integer attempts = (Integer)session.getAttribute("loginAttempts");
    int intAttempts = 0;
    if (attempts != null)
    intAttempts = attempts.intValue();
    if (!successfulLogon || intAttempts > 3)
    // If the Logon fails we need to do the follwoing
    // 1. Increment the counter. Once this exceeds 3 any logon will fail
    // 2. Create an error message to display on the logon screen.
    // Be sure that this is non-specific so crackers can't tell if
    // a portion if the username is correct or that there is a
    // Max attempts value.
    session.setAttribute("loginAttempts",new Integer(++intAttempts));
    errors.add("InvalidLogin",new ActionError("loginerr.invalid"));
    actionContext.setActionErrors(errors);
    else
    session.setAttribute("loginStatus", new String("true"));
    target = "success";
    actionContext.setActionForward(target);
    This goes to a "success" actionForward if the login works and a "fail" actionForward if the login fails.
    My ApplicationResources.properties file contains:
    loginerr.invalid=Invalid username/password. Please try again.
    This matches up with the key I used in the new ActionError() statement above.
    My structs-config.xml for this section looks like this:
    <action path="/mainAction" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" type="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataAction" name="DataForm">
    <set-property property="modelReference" value="loginUIModel"/>
    <forward name="success" path="/loginPage.do"/>
    <forward name="login" path="/loginAction.do"/>
    </action>
    <action name="DataForm" path="/loginAction" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" type="com.paslists.view.LoginAction">
    <set-property property="modelReference" value="loginUIModel"/>
    <set-property property="methodName" value="loginUIModel.login"/>
    <set-property property="resultLocation" value="${requestScope.methodResult}"/>
    <set-property property="numParams" value="2"/>
    <set-property property="paramNames[0]" value="${param.username}"/>
    <set-property property="paramNames[1]" value="${param.password}"/>
    <forward name="fail" path="/mainAction.do"/>
    <forward name="success" path="/getHomePageAction.do"/>
    </action>
    <action name="DataForm" path="/loginPage" forward="/loginPage.uix" validate="false"/>
    mainAction has a success forward to loginPage.uix. loginPage.uix has a "login" event attached to the submit button, which forwards to loginAction. loginAction executes the code declaratively and forwards to success or fail. If success, it continues on. If fail, it loops back to mainAction.
    Again -- this all works (almost). The only thing that does not work is that my ActionErrors() are not displaying on the web page.
    What am I doing wrong here?

    Solved my own problem. See the following thread for the answer:
    Displaying Struts messages/errors in 10g
    I modified my error code to be:
    actionContext.getActionErrors().add(ActionErrors.GLOBAL_ERROR,new ActionError("loginerr.invalid"));
    this.saveErrors(request,actionContext.getActionErrors());
    I modified my template to contain:
    <struts:dataScope xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui"
    xmlns:data="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/ui">
    <contents>
    <messageBox messageType="error" automatic="true"/>
    </contents>
    </struts:dataScope>
    I also added xmlns:struts="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/struts" to the templateDefinition.
    It now works.
