Viewing reports generated by BOXI in local Java application?

Hi,
I am developing a Java client that will act as a front-end to a BOXI R2 server and am having some problems finding a suitable way to display the generated reports in an integrated manner.
I have been using the Web Services component to interact with the server as this seems like the easiest (only) way to run reports on demand, including setting parameters. The ReportViewerBean java applet seems like the only tool available to integrate in a client java application but I have some problems with it. The only way I have been able to get it to display a report is by getting an IReportSource from the page server. It also doesn't let me set parameters programatically and so what my app has to do at the moment is set parameters and retrieve a view using the web service, put the retrieved view back on the server in a temporary location and then retrieve the temporary view on the server using the IReportSourceFactory and feed that to the ReportViewerBean.
This solution is no good and I need some help getting this to work.
I have used an ActiveX CR viewer component in a separate project written in VB6 which allowed me to set parameters, data sources, ect. and run the report. It was very flexible, but unfortunately tied to windows. Is there any similar component available in java that isn't as crippled as the ReportViewerBean and allows me to just view the report I retrieved from the server?
Thanks,
Elliot.

The Crystal Report Viewer looks good, but it seem that it's only available for Windows and Mac platforms. The reason why I am using Java is because the company I am working for has clients using both Windows and Solaris workstations.
The reporting component I am investigating needs to be integrated with our current software solution.
There are a few requirements that restrict this to an integrated solution:
We will be managing cascading and custom dynamic prompts and feeding formatted strings from that to the report parameters
Solution has to be cross platform, including Unix platforms
Interface has to be restricted so that viewing, printing, exporting can be controlled and audited by us.
An interface that I can catch hyperlink events from to trigger extra functionality in the parent program.
Thanks for the suggestion, but are there any other thick client java options for viewing a generated report?

  • Restrictions on local Java applications

    Hello!
By java 2 security model, all local Java applications run unrestricted as trusted applications by default. but there is a note about security configuration which runs local application with access-control policies applied (similar to applet's and remote application's).
But there was not reference how this can be achieved.
Can you pointed me out how to configure such behaviour?
    Thank you!

    Thank you, Martin!
I did just as stated in security policy documentation, but my policy does not apply to all (in fact to any) localy started application?
Is there a special trick to make it work?

  • Launch multiple WS apps from a local Java application?

I should develop a local Java application that on demand launches webstart applications. Obviously it could be done with a simple HTML file, but the requirements are that launched apps be monitored by the launching app, so they need to be in the same JVM.
    I tried
    java -Djnlpx.home="C:/programfilesdir/Java Web Start"
    -classpath ".;..\classes;..\lib;..\lib\javaws.jar" Launcher
Then Launcher.java calls com.sun.javaws.Main's main method passing the JNLP URL as a parameter.
This launches Java Web Start and then the child app, but for some reason I ignore the Launcher app is exited without exceptions as soon as javaws starts.
Provided that the Java WS app manager is itself a Java app that launches WS app's, any clue on how to do the same thing? Or can the source code be inspected?
    Thanks.

JVM.You might check out netx, a open-source JNLP client that has extra support for running multiple apps in a single JVM. It includes a SecurityManager that can catch System.exit and close the calling app's windows and resources (applet sounds, etc) instead of closing the JVM. It has other support too like separate look and feels for each app.
It doesn't yet implement all of the spec though, but it does run most JNLP apps.

  • Opening a binary data file with a local java application from a weblink...

I don't know if this is the right forum for my query, but I would like to be able to click on a data file from a download link on a webpage and be able to have the file "open" into the java application that processes the particular file (as opposed to selecting the "save to disk" option or having the browser display a bunch of funky characters). If the application is not already running, have an instance start up and process the data file and display the information. What steps would I need to take to get this to happen? The application is executed in a windows environment through executing a .bat file and not an executable .jar file. Any thoughts? TIA!

This is entirely a matter of configuring the Windows file associations so that files with that extension are started using your designated process. Depending on the particulars you may be able to establish the association from the context (right-click) menu, or you may need to use Folder Options rom the Control Panel.
In any case, this is a not a Java question, but Windows; if further help is needed you should go to a Windows help site.

  • 10 minute hang in our Java application on HP-UX only...

10 minute hang in our Java application on HP-UX only...
To simulate a network outage, we unplug the network cable from the box. Our Java application hangs for 10 minutes on the first #sql statement it encounters, then finally returns an exception. On Windows and Linux boxes the exception is returned immediately under the same conditions.
Is this an HP-UX com issue, or an Oracle issue?

It seems that the Java Environment can't connect to the Display (perhaps no XServer is running or the display variable is not set correctly)
This seems to be the case when the call
    java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment(GraphicsEnvironment.java:62)
    fails.

  • How open a report with Viewer 2008 without using Visual Studio and Java

    Hi,
There is a way to open a report (with parameters) save in a web server with Crystal Report Viewer 2008 without using Visual Studio or Java ?
I've an asp page and i want to open this report using some command (I know asp, vbscript and html)
In the past it was very easy because we use CR 9, but now it's already many days im looking for a solution but seem impossible.
I know the craxdrt.dll is not included with Crystal Reports 2008.
It seem me i can use OpenDocument, but i'm not sure. Someone has some easy example to help me ?
Remember i have only Crystal report viewer 2008 on the server and on the clients.
    Thanks in advance

If you are looking to create a web application or view report through a web server using only Crystal Reports then you do have to either use Java, or .NET.
If you have Crystal Reports server or Business Objects Enterprise you can use OpenDocument to view managed reports but this does require one of our server products.
    Trevor.

  • Unable to generate Power View report out of Multidimensional report data source

    Hi,
I have created 'Report Data Source' connection to point to Multidimensional cube on Share Point site. But when I try to create a new Power View report out of it, I get following error message :
"An error occured while loading the model for the item or data source 'http://*********/PowerPivot Gallery/TestCube.rsds'. Verify that the connection information is correct and that you have permission to access the data source."
I can see following message in the <moreInformation> section :
<Source>Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services</Source><Message>Errors in the metadata manager. The current model can only be expressed when the client is requesting tabular view metadata with VERSION restriction of 2.0 or later.</Message>
Following are the System configurations :
    1) SSAS : SQL Server 2012 + SP2 (version 11.0.5058)
    2) Share Point 2013
As mentioned in one of the MSDN documents this configuration supports creation of Power View reports on multidimensional cube.
Can any one suggest what might be the issue?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Dipti,
According to your description, you get the connection failure when creating a power view report, and it throws information "Errors in the metadata manager. The current model can only be expressed when the client is requesting tabular view metadata with
VERSION restriction of 2.0 or later." Right?
Based on the error message, the issue should be the SSRS on sharepoint metadata version mismatch when sending to SSAS. There's someone mentioned in a similar thread that this issue can be solved by installing the full package of CU4 for SP1.
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/133558cd-ffc8-4608-ae45-fdff01770c6d/powerview-sql-2012-sp1-cu4-cannot-connect-to-dimensional-metadata-version-11?forum=sqlreportingservices
Even you already have SP2 installed, it supposed included CU1~CU9 for SP1. However, it has reported that SP2 doesn't fix all bugs which supposed to be fixed in CU for SP1.
SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 is available - but there's a catch!
So please re-install the full CU4 for SP1, restart the services and try again.

  • Java application to call BOXI cluster report server

    Dear all,
We have a BOXI 3.1 cluster consisting of 2 servers, says server1 and server2.
Which server should the java application call to? server1 or server2? I don't realize there is BOXI cluster common hostname that can be resolved by DNS.
If the application calls to server1, what if server1 is down?
    Many thanks

For the Java version of the BusinessObjects Enterprise SDK starting with XI 3.x, CMS members and their "Name Server Port" are persisted by the SDK in the file %HOME%\.businessobjects\clusterinfo.1200.properties file.    This file is read when SessionMgr is instantiated.
When logon method with a CMS member name/port is invoked, it's looked up to determine what cluster the member belongs to, as recorded in the properties file.  Then a random CMS member from that cluster is selected, and connection is attempted to that CMS Name Server.
So regardless of what CMS name you enter for the logon, it should at least fail over to a live one.
The only issue happens if there's no clusterinfo.1200.properties file (i.e., fresh install on the SDK machine) or not accessible (if the process has no rights to access that file).  Then you have to ensure the CMS name you enter is to a live one.    If it's a fresh install and there's sufficient file access, the initial contact with a live CMS Name Service will retrieve all CMS members, and the SDK will update teh properties file.
So you shouldn't have to worry about which CMS name you specify.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • View Report in Web Viewer Error

I am using Eclipse 4.3 Kepler with BIRT 4.3.2 on a 64-bit machine running Windows 7 and Java 8.
When I select Run -> View Report -> In Web Viewer I get the following error message:
    HTTP ERROR: 500
    Problem accessing /viewer/frameset. Reason:
    Server Error
    Powered by Jetty://
    How can I fix this?

    Thank you for the link.
Setting up BIRT Viewer to work with a local instance of (say) Tomcat, using a workspace that Tomcat can access, etc., is not quite the simple solution I was hoping for.
We do use BIRT Viewer to render our reports in our application - and we use the Ant "sync" task to update reports (from an Eclipse workspace to a Tomcat webapps context) during development, which is a good workaround for when a BIRT report is already wired into an application that can (in turn) be used to invoke the report. (You do not even have to re-start Tomcat to see the changes, which is cool.)
What I was hoping for was a standalone solution whereby a developer does not need to be running Tomcat (or any other Servlet container) with BIRT Viewer deployed, etc.
I am sure that at one time the BIRT Viewer feature worked out-of-the-box, but I could be wrong about that.

  • Error while running Java application using Crystal Reports 2011

    Hello,
I would like to ask for your help.
    Environment details:
Java based standalone application in Development environment.
Crystal Reports 2011 (no SP applied)
    Oracle 11g ( 32 bit client installed)
    Win7 64 bit OS.
    Workflow:
While running the java application, which will display the reports I am getting the below mentioned error. I guess that is because I am missing the Crystal runtimes (Correct me if I am wrong).
I know that CR2011 do not have any sdks/ jar available for deployment. In this case, which runtimes should I be using? Does installing CR2011 be enough in the development box?
Please provide me the link from which I can download the same.
Let me know if I need to provide more details on this. Any suggestions are most welcome.
    Thank You.

  • How can i invoke an Oracle Report w/in a Java application?

I have a custom java application that I would like to integrate with a report tool. I am reviewing Oracle Reports but I was not sure how I would integrate an Oracle Report.
I have read that I can use Active-X but. Has anyone ever done this? Also - is there any support for a java bean?
I am also wondering how I could pass in report parameters.
It is my understanding that Oracle will generate either pdf or html output which could be viewed through the browser or adobe acrobat reader.
    Is this correct?
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

    Bonnie,
I create a URL that calls Oracle Reports Server running under IAS, using PDF or html as the output. The Java code calls up the commandline and starts the default browser with the specified URL, which then talks to Oracle Reports Server... and voila... the report shows up in your browser!
    have fun...
void execURL ( String pURL )
    System.out.println(pURL);
    if (System.getProperty("os.name").equals("Windows NT") )
    try
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start "+pURL);
    catch (Exception e1) {System.out.println(e1.getMessage()); }
    else
    try
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("start "+pURL);
    catch (Exception e2) {System.out.println(e2.getMessage());}
