Viewing word documents through forms

Hi Guys,
I am using forms 10g and webutil to transfer documents (only word
documents are working now, pdf isn't. Don't know why
yet) from the client machine and storing them in the
database tru forms. How can I view the stored document
tru forms? The column data type is BLOB.

I looked at that paper and it helped me greatly in getting my file transfer to work to upload files from the client to the database (BLOB column). I looked over the information on the webutil_docs dialog but I am not sure I understand how to implement the feature to allow users to edit files that have been stored as BLOBs. Can you give a quick and dirty recipe for getting this set up? Is it a standard part of the webutil package?

I have a table which stores word documents as BLOB. My database is on UNIX machine and I access the database through a Citrix machine through Oracle Forms. My client wishes to open the word document in Forms which is stored in BLOB in the database. My database version is 9.2 which supports me to import and export files from file system to BLOB and vice versa using DBMS_BLOB and UTL_FILE packages. But, my only concern is regarding opening the word document through Forms 6i. Is that possible through OLE or any other means? I've tried all the sources. I know I can do it using Webutil, but it will not work for Forms 6i. Please help me in this regard. I have an urgent release tonight. Please. Please. Please. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

I know that OLE can solve the problem. But issues is my word document is stored as BLOB in the database. My database is in UNIX. So, I can't export my files into UNIX and open them. I can't view them either from Forms. Please let me know if you have any alternative. Please can you guide me with step by step procedure as to how this can be done if we can do it using OLE.

Try use HOST command to open Words and your document. It works fine for me on Excel.

there is the possibility of integrated a word document in forms 6i?

You can embed and OLE object like Word into Forms but this is a client/server only solution.
Take a look at the online help for OLE and OLEobjects.

Avilable Web Parts to view word documents

I have added Excel & Visio web parts inside my publishing site collection, to view visio & excel documents. but seems there is not any available web parts for viewing word documents, so can anyone advice about this ?

The difference is based on the existence of a shared service app for Excel and Visio. You can view Word Documents using Office Web Apps. Excel files can be viewed using either Office Web Apps or Excel Services. The web part you are referring
to is part of Excel Services. Visio services also has a web part, but has no support in Office Web Apps. But since there is no Word Service App there is no web part available for viewing word documents, only Office web apps itself.

Yes i have been using excel services & Visio services, as we do not have office web apps. so is there any way to view word documents inside the web browser, other than using office web apps?

How to view word document from report?

We have one table with blob datatype and manage to save some document by creating form on this talbe. Through form we can see the document as default functionality of portal forms. But now we want to allow user to view this document from report as well.
We tried one Solution on WWDOC_DOCUMENT and its working for WWDOC_DOCUMENT table but we want to display from our user table's word document. ( Any relation between user table and WWDOC_DOCUMENT table of PORTAL30).

Found way around but facing another problem. Its worked fine for first time (means when i inseted documents and created report on same table).
But subsequent session it giving HTTP 404 file not found error.
Any clue?

MS Word documents in forms/oracle database

How does one store a word document in the database. Should be able to store the binary file and be able to retrieve it by launching MS word. Can we use BLOB. If so how to store a file into a BLOB column and how to retrieve that when required in forms 6i?
I do not want to use OLE.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Create/Edit Word documents from Form 6 in the web

How can I create/edit Microsoft Word documents from a form running under IAS.
In client/server I can do it using OLE2.

On the Web the OLE2 option would still work if your Forms server is on a windows machine with word on it. The files will be created on the server and you can get them to the client with the web.show_document built-in.
If you want to create them on the client machine directly you need a Java bean that will activate the COM interface.

Viewing Word documents from attachments in email

I received a Word document as an attachment via email. I clicked on the document (.doc) and my iPhone doesn't allow me to view it. Any suggestions?

Extra Data Shows Up Viewing Word Document

This is really weird, I have a word docx document and only when I view it on an iPad there appears to be some type of header on the first page and footer/end note on the last page that I can only see on my ipad. If I open in word it is not there. Has anyone else come across this problem?

I think your going to have to try a different word processor.
All of the "Office" document editing applications on the iPad have limitations. Best try them out to see if they meet your needs.

Viewing word documents

Hi all, I am using iphone 3gs. I use MS Word documents frequently. I used several apps to view these documents
in my iphone. These apps help me to view the documents in its original font size and formatting. Some documents
have small font size which is hard to read. If I want to increase the font size, I have to zoom due to which some of the
contents go off the screen and make the reading still more difficult.
Is there any app to read the documents by increase the font size comfortably still the contents intact within the screen.
(Like we do in ibooks)

Storing/Editing Word Documents in Forms 6i

Has anyone done this in 6i ?
Apparently, the only solution is to write some JavaBeans. Has anyone done this and are there any samples that would allow us to do this other than the samples on Technet as unfortunately they do not help much.
It seems as though this is a fairly common request so I am hoping that someone has done it and will be able to help.

Can you edit formatted text (WORD document) if it is stored in a CLOB or BLOB datatype.
Has anyone got any pointers to examples of storing formatted text and being able to edit it.

How to launch a word document through VC

Hi All,
I have requirement which is as follows:
I need to provide help for the screens of my application for which there are separate word documents which describes the process of using the application.
There are about 6 help documents (MS word). I need to have a "Help" link on every screen. On click of the "Help" link a new window must open and the word document should be displayed. Can the word documents be stored on the server?
How can we achieve this. The Visual Composer version is 7.1

Hi Poojith MV,
You can use a Dynamic Web Project to upload documents, images etc. to a J2EE server (i.e. a server that runs VC).
This is done in the NWDS.
You create a new Dynamic Web Project (from the File -> New -> Project... dialog) with an EAR project, copy the documents to the WebContent folder in the Dynamic Web Project, export the EAR project as SAP EAR file and deploy that file to the VC server (configured in Window -> Preferences -> SAP AS Java). Then you can access the file using the Dynamic Web Project name (http://<server>:<port>/<dynamic web project name>/<document name>).

Can't open Microsoft Word document through SharePoint

Since upgrading to Firefox 35, I am no longer able to open Microsoft Word files through SharePoint. When I select "Edit in Microsoft Word," I get the error message "No connectivity with the server. [FILENAME] can't be opened because the server couldn't be contacted."
Note that this is specific to my Mac. I can open Word files on SharePoint when I use my VMWare Windows simulator.
Any suggestions for a fix?

Converting a Word document with form fields to become a form fillable PDF file with email

We are trying to convert a number of word(97,and 2000) documents but it never works correctly. The converted PDF file is missing fields and the fields it does convert is one character long. The idea was to have LiveCycle just convert it without anyone having the need to re-design it. They would only need to add a submit button and an email address to the PDF form. Is there something we are missing?

For the problem of submitting by email and still submitting a PDF file:
The stock "Submit by Email" button submits via XML. I think you can do one of two things to get it to work:
1) Use a regular "Button" instead of an "Email Submit Button". Set it's type to "Submit" in the Field tab; then on the Submit tab, use something like "mailto:name@company" for your email address in the Submit To URL box, and set the Submit As type to PDF.
2) Change the XML for your Email Submit button (in the XML Source view): You'll find something like,

</event>
Change it to:
<event activity="click" name="event__click">
<submit format="pdf" textEncoding="UTF-16" xdpContent="pdf datasets xfdf" target="mailto:name@company"/>

I don't know if you need to change just the "Submit format" in the XML, or also add the xdpContent tag.
