Virtual Machine Issue
Good Morning all,
I am currently in the middle of setting up my personal home domain.
I currently have the following setup:
- Server running 2012 R2 and this is my Domain Controller
- My DNS and DHCP is currently on my Sky broadband router (this is just incase my server gets turned off at some point at least other users in my house will get an ip etc.)
- On this server I also have the Hyper-V role installed. (I have a Windows 8.1 virtual machine running on this)
Now my issue.
I am trying to use the Hyper-V virtual machine as my "test pc" so that I can apply group policies etc and just make sure everything is working as should be. For some reason however I cannot join my domain via the Virtual machine.
I have turned the firewalls off both the Server and the Virtual Machine, and both can see each other via ping. If I also go to
\\servername\share I can also see items such as sysvol etc on my Virtual Machine.
when trying to join the virtual machine to the domain I am getting the following error "An Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for the domain "domainname" could not be contacted. Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly. If the
name is correct, click details for troubleshooting information"
I am not really sure where to go from here. I have also manually set the DNS address so that is picks up from the Sky Router.
Any ideas please.
*Added*
The internet on the virtual machine works fine.
The major error is in misplacing your DNS. Active Directory should have its own DNS
(usually sitting on the DC). The reason is simple. In DNS there are
domain resource records that provide client information about Active Directory objects (to say it simply).
I do recommend to read something about Active Directory infrastructure. Technet and some books may bring you to correct configuration quickly. Also there are various labs and webcast that bring live learning possibilities.

Hello, I just completed my JavaScript Intro course and am boning up for an upcoming JAVA course. I am a total beginner, so bear with me.
I loaded JDK 1.3.1, including the runtime environment, and downloaded and successfully installed the Virtual Machine. I can run programs in DOS mode, but when I try to run an applet from a webpage, it says that I need Microsoft Virtual Machine. I used to be able to run applets, but now I can't.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Any ideas on other tools that I'll need in the learning process would be appreciated too! Thanks!
MarkThat's what I already did - went to Microsoft's download page and installed the virtual machine. The odd part is that the installshield wizard doesn't tell me where the VM is being installed, so I don't know where to look to see if it was really "successfully" installed like the wizard says it was. I've got JDK installed on an NT workstation; could that be the issue? Like I said before - the applets ran fine, but now they don't, so is there a way of figuring out what the applets were using before? I'm at a complete stop in the learning process because I can't even test my applets -- not even the demo applets that came with the JDK. HELP!!!

Issue in adding Space to the existing Virtual Machine from added repository
Hi,
I'm facing issue in adding Space to the existing Virtual Machine (Guest OS) from added repository.
Environment details :
VM Server : /OVS => 130GB
/OVS/935970F2CC2D4B4391701397517F1001/ => 512 GB
Things I have done :
• I created a VM (Guest OS) in the VM Server with 120 GB
• After creating the VM (Guest OS) , When I tried adding a VIRTUAL DISK of size 150 GB , I got an error “Maximum available Disk space is only 10GB”.
My query :
• Will I be able to add space to Existing VM from the added Repository ( /OVS/935970F2CC2D4B4391701397517F1001/ ) , whose system.img is stored in path /OVS/running_pool/34_rhel/ .
Kindly help me out in this.
Thanks in advance.
-- SriHi all,
I checked with Oracle on the above and got the info currently , the we can utilise only the space available in the existing repo and cannot extend to additional repo.
Work around is : Clone it to the other repo , or Use Symbolic link .
Thanks,
Sri. -
Issue with VMware player - trying to install Windows 7 on a virtual machine
I'm currently using the basic version of VMware player (not the pro version)
I create a new virtual machine. VMware player automatically detects my Windows 7 bit installation disc
in my attached CD/DVD drive.
in the next screen, i select my operating system version and fill in my windows license key
then there is a progress bar with the title "creating disc" which takes about 10 minutes to complete
after installation, the virtual machine launches.
It says (white on black background)
Network boot from Intel E1000
PXE-E53: no boot filename recived
PXE-M0F Existing Intel PXE Rom.
Operating system not found.
on the bottom of the virtual machine window it says "easy install is installing Windows 7 64 bit",
however my CD/DVD drive is not spinning and there is no progress leaving this alone for 30 minutes.
I then rebooted the Virtual Machine and went into the bios to update the boot order
with the CDrom 1st, then the hard drive and then the network.
I still get the same errors.
I also tried the same process with my Windows Xp installation disc, same issues
Any advice would be appreciatedJmattson, good idea I'll try the manual install. user "aka", I did check the bios, intel virtualization is enabled.

Problematic issues in installing backup domain controller on Virtual Machine
Hello,<o:p></o:p>
I have a physical domain controller - windows Server 2012 R2 Standard installed
in my domain environment and this is a first root domain controller.
I have also Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 installed and joined in that domain.
Now I want to install an additional (Backup) domain controller as a virtual
machine hosted on Hyper-V Server. So while promoting VM as a DC all actions and
steps go well but the problem arise when I press the install button at the end
of the promotion - installation gets stuck in the process of writing some
configuration files on first DC and also in the process of replication. Unfortunately
VM does not promote as a DC and it goes to restart.
The error event log with - NETLOGON source is logged on the virtual machine as
well.
Do you have some suggestions with this issue, or experience how to resolve this..
Thanks a lot in advance,
GMG
<o:p></o:p>Now I want to install an additional (Backup) domain controller
There is no backup DC. All DCs are RW except RODCs.
I would recommend first checking the health status of the existing DC using
dcdiag command. Also, please check the IP settings in use: Please make sure that the existing DC has its primary IP address in use and that public DNS servers are set as forwarders and not in IP settings of the DC. For the new DC, please make sure
that it points to the existing DC as primary DNS server and once promoted you can see the recommendations here to update the configuration: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18513.active-directory-replication-issues-basic-troubleshooting-steps-single-ad-domain-in-a-single-ad-forest.aspx
Please also disable temporary all security software in use on the DCs and make sure that needed ports for AD replication and authentication are not blocked or filtered between the DCs.

Lion 10.7.4 issues with Virtual Machines
Hi,
I'm having lot of issues with virtual machines (both Parallels and VMWare)
since having update to lion 10.7.4.
I make myself:
If I switch on Mac OS a run any vitrual machine software
I can run Windows XP and Ubuntu at same time with no issue and very fluently.
But, if I switch on Mac OS and start using Eclipse, Safari 5.2 and other production stuff and
want to use vmware or paralles
they become unusable even if I quit all the tasks ans "purge" memory.
(eg: if i click start button on windows I have to wait seconds before the start menu pops up)
Any Idea?
I have MacBook Pro 13 Unibody mid 2009 with SSD Drive AND 4GB of RAM
and I had no such issues with Lion 10.7.3alex_75 wrote:
As you wrote before, virtual mchines need big chunks of contigous RAM and
2,5 GB of free RAM wuold have enough ammount of such a RAM.
No, it wouldn't. 2.5 GB of free RAM could consist of 5 chunks of 500 MB of contiguous RAM, separated by RAM allocated by other processes.
Here is a hypothetical memory map. Assume a is application memory, o is operating system memory, and - is free memory.
boot: oooo--------------
run app1: ooooaao-----------
run app2: ooooaaoaaaaaaoo---quit app1: oooo---aaaaaaoo---
Maybe there is some issue in the way 10.7.4, in some perticolar situations, handle the process of freeing RAM.
What you can't accept, and I don't know why, is that before the update to 10.7.4 everithing was fine.
I don't know why you don't beleve me.
There is nothing in the 10.7.4 update description that mentions a re-write of the virtual memory system. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5167
I just worte here to see if someone could give any advice to do further invesigations.
I know the price of upgrading RAM but I think that this would be a "microsoft like" solution
and I'm trying to find what service or task or whatever is creating this issue.
The only thing "Microsoft like" about buying more RAM is the fact that you need it to run your Microsoft operating systems. It has been this way as long as I can remember. I upgraded my MacBook to 4 GB RAM in 2008 just so I could run Windows more easily.
Perhaps you have your virtual memory settings too high. Depending on what you are doing in the VM, you may not need the default settings. XP will run low-intensity tasks with a 500 MB VM size. It will run just about anything in 1 GB. Linux should run fine in the same range too. -
Our test environment is quite simple one Operations Server 2012 R2; with the database and SSRS instance on another server; Service Manager 2012 is on it’s own virtual machine; and the Service Manager Data Warehouse on it’s own. I’ve been trying to demo chargeback
with scvmm and I’m having issues with the chargeback reporting.
I’ve followed this process to install chargeback reports:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj614406.aspx which
completed successfully. All of the cubes seem to process correctly in Service Manager and I can create a chargeback analysis excel sheet with no issues in service manager. I still do not get any chargeback reports in the Operations console though. I get some
reports under the “Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 Reports” heading like Capacity, Host Group Forecasting, Host Utilization, etc but no chargeback report.
I can see the chargeback report in the SSRS website but cannot get it to appear in the Operations console. If anyone has any tips or troubleshooting they can point me at I would appreciate it.Hi,

[Forum FAQ] Resolve virtual machines fail to start issues
After you restart the Hyper-V Host server and the guest virtual machines, you may encounter the error:
An error occurred while attempting to start the selected virtual machines(s).
Here are three common issues.
Issue 1
On a Windows Server 2008-based machine that has the Hyper-V role installed,
or on a Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008-based machine, you encounter the following:
• When you try to connect to a virtual machine, error occurs:
Cannot connect to the virtual machine because the authentication certificate is expired or invalid. Would you like to try connecting again,
• When you start a virtual machine, error occurs (Figure 1):
An error occurred while attempting to change the state of virtual machine

Could not find a usable certificate. Error:
‘Unspecified error’(0x80004005).
Figure 1: ‘Unspecified error’ (0x80004005).
Cause:
This issue may occur if the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management service (VMMS) certificate has expired.
Solution:
Install the Hotfix.
You cannot connect to a virtual machine when the Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V VMMS certificate has expired
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/kb967902/en-us
Workaround:
Follow the steps below to generate a new certificate.
1. Shut down or save all virtual machines.
2. Restart the Hyper-V VMMS.
3. Start the virtual machines.
Note:As the Hyper-V VMMS certificate is valid for one year, the update has to be applied to prevent this issue from occurring in the future.Issue

Bandwith issue in azure virtual machine
Hi,
Suddenly from last two three days we are not getting proper bandwith on one of our azure virtual machine ,uplaoding and dowloading speed which we are getting is below 30mpbs ,so please look in to this issue.Hello siddheshr,
1. What is the size of the Virtual Machine that you have deployed?
2. When you say that there is a latency, are you referring to Azure VM to VM latency or from external traffic?
If you have a latency in your bandwidth, as a first step, I suggest that you restart your Virtual Machine and check if it makes a difference.
If restarting the Virtual Machine does not fix the issue, I suggest that you resize the Virtual Machine.
Also, please let me know how exactly are you determining that the bandwidth is low.
Thanks,

Common Issues - Connecting (Remote Desktop) to Virtual Machine
This posting contains a list of some of the common problems that have been seen in early usage of Windows Azure Virtual Machines. These topics can be used as a guide to resolve some of the most common problems that are likely to occur when first using Windows
Azure Virtual Machines
Potential issues that may be seen:
1.) Remote Desktop endpoint is missing
Each virtual machine that is created should have a remote desktop endpoint for the VM at port 3389. If this endpoint is deleted then a new endpoint must be created. The public port can be any available port number. The private port (the port on the VM) must
be 3389.
2.) RDP fails with error: "The specified user name does not exist. Verify the username and try logging in again. If the problem continues, contact your system administrator or technical support."
RDP connection may fail when there are cached credentials. Please see the following article to resolve this problem:
http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/uploadfile/ae35ca/windows-azure-fixing-reconnect-remote-desktop-error-the-specified-user-name-does-not-exist-verif/
3.) Failure to connect to uploaded VHD
When a VHD is uploaded to Windows Azure you must make sure that Remote Desktop is enabled on the VHD and an apporopriate firewall rule is enabled on the VM to open port 3389 (Remote Desktop port)
Messages posted to this forum are provided "AS IS" with no warrantiesYes we do have a few RDP connection issues that we are working to resolve. I need help with java on windowsXP after updating iTunes to the latest version. My java will not work and I get error message need java virtual machine to run applet window. Did not have this problem prior to the iTunes update.
Please help, ThanksIf your library was working on your computer and then popped up empty all of a sudden then this might be what you need...
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

If you install Visual Studio 2015 with the Windows 10 Mobile emulators in a virtual machine, setup will succeed but the emulators will not be available as valid debug targets.
The Windows Emulators require a physical machine that runs Windows 8.1 (x64) Professional edition or higher, and a processor that supports Client Hyper-V and Second Level Address Translation (SLAT). The emulators will not run when Visual Studio is installed
in a Virtual Machine (VM).
The emulators for Universal Windows app development work best with Windows 10. -
