VisiBroker CORBA using 99% CPU and increasing infinite memory usage

I've read most of the CORBA posts on this newsgroup and found that no one else has had this problem, but I tried the other solutions just in case. None of them worked.
In my swing app running in JWS, I have a thread that initializes a VisiBroker ORB. Somewhere along the initialization line, my CPU usage for the JVM controlling my app jumps up to 99%, memory increases infinitely. When i finally killed the app, memory allocated was way over 160 megs. This does not happen with this application outside of JWS. I then used a memory profiler and found that the method call that was causing all of this was in some a class of VisiBroker's, the com.inprise.vbroker.ds.DSUser$DatagramThread in particular its run method.
If i decompile this class gasp, I actually find that there is a possibility of an infinite loop. Here is the code for the method:
        public void run()
            do
                try
                    do
                        byte abyte0[] = new byte[8192];
                        DatagramPacket datagrampacket = new DatagramPacket(abyte0, abyte0.length);
                        _socket.receive(datagrampacket);
                        IStream istream = new IStream(datagrampacket);
                        DSResource dsresource = istream.read_Resource();
                        InetAddress inetaddress = datagrampacket.getAddress();
                        int i = datagrampacket.getPort();
                        synchronized(_handlers)
                            Enumeration enumeration = _handlers.elements();
                            if(debug)
                                System.out.println("Received message: " + dsresource);
                            for(; enumeration.hasMoreElements(); ((MessageHandler)enumeration.nextElement()).handle(dsresource, inetaddress, i));
                    } while(true);
                catch(Exception _ex) { }
            while(!_shutdownInProgress);
        }Now using the information i get from the memory profiler, the actual place where the problem is is _socket.receive(datagrampacket); . This method performs the java.net.PlainDatagramSocketImpl.peek method as well, but basically you get the point. Using the memory profiler I also find that this causes a SocketException, which leads to an IOException.
With all this being said, I tried a few things from the newsgroup. I tried making sure my JNLP file specified to use 1.3 because of the classloader issues. This didn't work. I also tried putting code into the thread that does this and perform the setContextClassLoader(getClass().getClassLoader()); so that if it were the classloader issues I've been reading aobut it would take care of that. I have my ORB properties set up in the code and as I said before, this application works perfectly fine outside of JWS. I have ALL needed jar files referenced in my JNLP, it just comes to when it gets to that one line of code. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?

No one responded to this post but I came across the solution that I will share in case anyone else needs this in the future. Although I think it's a bug in the VisiBroker code that shouldn't allow this, the problem seemed to be with OSAgent. Upon the recommendation from someone else, I started OSAgent before running JWS and everything worked appropriately. Not familiar enough with VisiBroker to know why this settled the memory leak and infinite loop issue, but it did.

    Firefox keeps freezing and using 50% cpu and memory usage shoots up real fast and carries on going till it uses up all there is left. Most of the time it's when there's an auto update of anything addon, plugin or ff but not just neccessarily then! I find out it's happened when there's been an update after i restart and an extra webpage comes up with the particular addon/plugin/ff update. I have to restart most of time because nothing sorts it out. I'm using windows xp with the latest update of ff 13.0.1 it's not this version because it's been happening for a while. And it never started when i added a particular addon or plugin or when i added a new app to my pc either. Any idea as to what this may be or how i'd sort it out?

  • Media Encoder only using 15% CPU, and system slows to cement

    Not sure what's going on, but trying to export from Premiere CS6 to Media Encoder and very basic 640x360 H264 4 minute clips are taking 40 minutes, only using 15-30% CPU (on 2011 Macbook Pro 2.3 core i7), and the system slows to a cement crawl (had to stop it just to type this post). Nothing else is using any CPU and RAM is 25% free.
    I don't even know where to begin to troubleshoot. Tried restarting is all so far. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    It seems there is a problem with the Mercury Playback Engine on my MBP. I turned it off and switched to software only mode, and now CPU is screaming at 750% on export and estimated time is about 8 times faster

  • CF4.5 uses 100% CPU and hangs

    Hello,
    According to the ColdFusion Forums my problem is not a new one but I still want
    to post it with the hope to get some kind of answer.
    I'm are running the following system:
    CF 4.5 Enterprise Server
    SiteMinder 6.0
    IIS 5.0
    MS SqlServer 2005
    Both the CF and database server are Win2000 SP4.
    About every one hours the CF server uses 100% CPU and from than on it is
    impossible to log into the application. The site is still available though.
    After restarting the CF service everything works fine until.....
    I do not know what triggers this but I suspect it has something to do with
    SiteMinder and logging onto the application.
    The site has to go live on Monday so you can imagine the pressure to get
    this fixed before the weekend.
    Greetings,
    Jilani

    Jilani, you mention that this seems connected to SiteMinder. Do you mean you have your own version of SiteMinder, separate from the built-in one that came with CF 4 and 5? I wonder if there could be a conflict between them. Why are you using the full SiteMinder? And do you really need it?
    More curious is that you say this spike happens every hour. Can you confirm if it's every 67 minutes, specifically? If so, then I would assert that this could be a problem related to the client variable purge process, which I discuss here:
    http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2006/10/4/bots_and_spiders_and_poor_CF_perfo rmance
    But that may not be the issue if simply enabling/disabling the siteminder service will immediately recreate your problem....unless somehow the DB used by SiteMinder is the same DB used for client variables. Do you have any datasources listed in the CF Admin page for client variables? Any chance there's a connection between them and siteminder?
    /charlie
    PS This whole issue of client variables and how they can hurt you unexpectedly is something I'll dicuss this Thursday at noon US EDT, when I present "Clients and Sessions and Crashes, Oh My", to the online ColdFusion Meetup: www.coldfusionmeeetup.com.

  • How to kill Forms Runaway Process using 95% CPU and running for 2 hours.

    We had a situation at E-Business Suite customer (using Oracle VM server) where some of Form processes were not being cleared by form timeout settings automatically.
    Also when user exits the form session from front end, the linux form process (PID) and DB session did not exit properly, so they got hung.
    They were spiking CPU and memory usage and causing e-business suite to perform slowely and ultimately causing VM host to reboot the production VM guest (running on Linux).
    We could see the form processes (PIDs) using almost 100% cpu with "top" command and running for a long time.
    Also we verified those Form Sessions did not exist in the application itself.
    ie. Using from Grid Control -> OAM-> Site Map -> Monitoring (tab) -> "Form Sessions".
    It means that we could safely kill that form process from Linux using "kill -9 <PID>" command.
    But that required a continuous monitoring and manual DBA intervention as customer is 24x7 customer.
    So, I wrote a shell script to do the following;
    •     Cron job runs every half an hour 7 days a week which calls this shell script.
    •     Shell script runs and tries to find "top two" f60webmx processes (form sessions) using over 95% cpu with 2 minutes interval.
    •     If no process is found or CPU% is less than 95%, it exits and does nothing.
    •     If top process is found, it searches for its DB session using apps login (with hidden apps password file - /home/applmgr/.pwd).
    a.     If DB session is NOT found (which means form process is hung), it kills the process from unix and emails results to <[email protected]>
    b.     If DB session is found, it waits for 2 hours so that form process times automatically via form session timeout setting.
    It also emails the SQL to check the DB session for that form process.
    c.     If DB session is found and it does not timeout after 2 hours,
    it kills the process from unix (which in turn kills the DB session). Output is emailed.
    This are the files required for this;
    1. Cron job which calls the shell script looks like this;
    # Kill form runaway process, using over 95% cpu having no DB session or DB session for > 2hrs
    00,30 * * * * /home/applmgr/forms_runaway.sh 2>&1
    2. SQL that this script calls is /home/applmgr/frm_runaway.sql and looks like;
    set head off
    set verify off
    set feedback off
    set pagesize 0
    define form_client_PID = &1
    select count(*) from v$session s , v$process p, FND_FORM_SESSIONS_V f where S.AUDSID=f.audsid and p.addr=s.paddr and s.process='&form_client_PID';
    3. Actual shell script is /home/applmgr/forms_runaway.sh and looks like;

    If you have the same problem with some other unix and DB processes, the script can be easily modified and used.
    But use this with thorough testing first (by commenting out <kill -9 $PID1> lines.
    Good luck.

  • HELP: Premiere Pro CC not using all CPU and RAM during rendering and export

    Hello,
    I am using Premiere Pro CC on a Windows 7. My timeline is quite simple with two videos, one with the movie (mpeg) and the other with the subtitles (avi).
    When I render the sequence in PP or export, the rendering time is way too slow and it only uses around 15-20% of the CPU and 3 GB of RAM.
    My hardware config is :
    - CPU : i7-4770k 3.50Ghz
    - RAM : 8 GB
    - Disk : 2 x 3 TB SATA (no raid)
    RAM is not the bottleneck, neither the disk access.
    I have tried rendering and exporting the same project on an iMac (with an i5 2.7 Ghz and 4 GB RAM and only 1 disk) and the result is 4x faster !!!
    The CPU usage is close to 100% as well as RAM usage.
    So how come PP uses all resources availble on an iMac and not on a Windows 7 ?
    Is there any known bug or software bottleneck on Windows 7 ?
    My machine is brand new and nothing much installed besides Adobe products.
    Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,

    I just rendered out a a 2 minute sequence with about 100 clips in it and Colorista effects on everything to the Vimeo 1080 H264 preset. It took about 5 minutes to render straight from Premiere, it used all the recourses it could, my CPU was running at near %100, same with my ram and GPU, I was happy.
    Then I did another render with Red Giant Denoiser and it now wants to take 30 mins and it is only using about %20 of the recourses available. My problem isn't that its taking longer with Denoiser but that its not using all of my computers CPU and GPU.
    Im rendering at maximum render quality and bit dept to H264 (Im happy to wait the extra time), if I try to use VRB 2 it encodes 1 pass at a time and wants to take up to 40 minutes.
    I would appreciate some advice on this.

  • ITunes will uses 100% cpu and will not close in OSX Lion

    When I start up iTunes, after a few minutes, the fan kicks on and Activity Monitor shows that it is using 100% CPU. The fan kicks up and the MBP gets warm. I have to force close to get it to shut down. iTunes match is constantly running, so maybe that has something to do with it?
    I'm not running it in Mini Player mode or anything like that, so I'm not sure what's causing the problem. Any thoughts on how to diagnose it?

    I also have this problem which has been getting worse with recent successive updates of Firefox. As a long-time user and advocate, I am about ready to look for an alternative browser. Firefox will not close and exit properly, requiring direct cancellation through Task Manager; starts up very slowly (often 1 to 2 minutes); and frequently locks up the CPU with 100% of cycles while doing NOTHING; offers to restart crashed sessions, but cannot recover and reload those sessions; will not operate correctly while any other application accesses the internet, like uTorrent. Firefox is set to delete cookies, etc. whenever the session closes, sqlite database is vacuumed regularly, CCleaner regularly wipes remaining accretions, and disk is defragged. Currently running 3.5.5 but will NOT upgrade until this problem is solved since later builds report the same problems. I know several other users who have experienced the same problem and I can no longer automatically recommend Firefox to users and clients. Is anybody paying any attention to this problem? What is being done to address this fault? Why is there no response to the original poster? Is this really a support forum or just a way to preoccupy and distract the users who suffer this malfunction? Wireless 54Mbps connection. No Adobe Flash, QuickTime, MS Silverlight, etc. installed on this machine. Firefox 3.5.5 with the following add-ons:

  • Premiere Pro CC only using 30% CPU and none of the GPU

    Hi,
    I’m very new to video editing (actually I have no Idea what H264, or avi or mp4 or mov is, I just need the video to work) and I have never used Premiere Pro before. Now I'm trying the CC 7.0 trial.
    My goal is to achieve the fastest rendering times possible.
    Today I have upgraded my PC for maximal performance in video editing:
    Intel i7 4930K (12threads)
    Radeon 6950 (2GB)
    16GB RAM
    SSD
    I have a recorded video of me playing a PC game in .avi 2552*1348 resolution (2560*1440 monitor without some borders).
    I have set export to H.264 and settings to match source (resolution 2552*1348, 30 FPS, Progressive, Square pixels, NTSC, main, 5.0).
    But when rendering (no effects, just cutting) the program only uses 22-45% of the entire CPU and none of the GPU.
    The best result with this stress was cca 1:1 rendering:movie length. I'm using 16GB RAM, I tried 32GB and 64GB and the stress on CPU and GPU was the same and the rendering times changed only slightly.
    I have an SSD and the read write speeds during rendering are 1-9 MB/s so there is plenty of performance left.
    Frankly, this 1:1 performance offers Power Director 11 which I have been using so far. (When editing 1080p the ratio in PP is cca 1:2,5, the same as in Power Director.)
    So when the disks are idle, the GPU is idle, more RAM changes nothing and the CPU only works on 1/3 its capacity, what is the bottleneck?
    I want to use 100% of the CPU and 100% of the GPU and have the rendering:movie say 0,3:1 or so.
    What can I change to fully use the processing power of my computer?
    Thanks

    As the heading says, my installation of Dreamweaver 5.5 has started to use 50% of the CPU time when any file is opened and effectively becomes unusable. I'm running Windows XP with SP3, Core2 CPU and 2GB RAM.  The program is also using quite a lot of memory (120,000K+).  I'm not having any problems with the other CS5.5 programs I use including Photoshop and Illustrator.
    I use DW only occasionally and have run it on this computer for over a year without any problems.
    I know that problems similar to this have been widely reported, so I have searched for a tried a wide range of fixes from Adobe and other sources, none of which have worked (for long).  These include:
    Replicate problem with Dreamweaver templates rather than my own files.
    All the steps in http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405604.html including
    Deleted cache file, WinFileCache-********.dat
    Delete/restore preferences folder.
    Disabled "Display External Files" in View menu.
    Disabled "Enable Related Files" in Preferences.
    Followed http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/hang-opening-document-dreamweaver-cs5.html, adding registry entry ResolveRemoteURLToIPAddress FALSE
    Remove and reinstall Dreamweaver.
    Remove and reinstall all of CS5.5 and apply updates.
    Move and test 'site' on another computer running the same version of DW (under Windows 7).
    A few of these, notably disabled "Enable Related Files" worked initially but the problem returned when DW was closed and reopened, even though the item remained disabled.
    The problem does not appear running in safe mode, which may be diagnostic of something but is not a fix.
    The dream is turning into a nightmare.  I'm back to editing html using Notepad++! I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
    Andrew

    Thanks to Sudarshan and Preran for your speedy replies and promise of further help.  In the meantime, I have tried to track down the cause of the problem.
    Having found that DW ran is safe mode, I decided to check out the state of my Windows installation.  A registry cleaner found an entry to a non-existant path:
    Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5.5\FloaterStates\FlashFloaters, FloaterPath3 has the value "C:\Documents and Settings\André\Application Data\Adobe\CS5.5ServiceManager\extensions\ConnectionsHomeOMBackend\2.5.1.20110506_v2_5_1_ 120\ConnectionsHomeOMBackend-2.5.swf"
    The directory André should be André, so possibly DW could be having trouble locating a file. Changing the registry entry made no difference as DW seems to reset it.
    What is a 'floater' (apart from a floating div)?  I did some research and came up with http://forums.adobe.com/message/2312502 which suggested using Window->Workspace Layout->Reset 'Designer' to fix the problem "Unable to find file SME.htm in the Configuration/Floaters directory."  The moment I did this, CPU usage dropped to negligible and things worked until I quit and restarted DW. Whether this is related to the registry entry is not clear, but it seems to work.
    So I have a work-around and some idea of where the problem may lie but a real solution would be appreciated! Hopefully, one that doesn't involve changing the user name or using Windows 8!
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • Firefox 3.6.3 & .4 uses 100% CPU and won't always close or open

    Firefox intermittently uses 100% of CPU and I have to manually turn off the computer. Firefox also does not start or finiosh correctly, the process is alive and I have to use Task Manager to end the process In the meantime I have installed IE7, as I cannot access internet banking with Firefox. Very disappointing as I have ben an enthusiastic user and promoter of FF.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == After upgrading to 3.6.3, and is no better with 3.6.4, despite deleting all add-ons

    Aardvark 3.0
    Adblock Plus 1.2.1
    Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper 1.0.6
    Free Download Manager plugin 1.3.4
    Highlighter 0.1.4
    MR Tech Toolkit 6.0.4
    repagination 2006.4.5.1
    Save Complete 1.0.1
    Session Manager 0.6.8.3
    Tab Mix Plus 0.3.8.4
    Unhide Passwords 1.2.5.1
    User Agent Switcher 0.7.2
    Thanks for any help or suggestions.

  • How can I fix a drastic and sudden increase in memory usage?

    Before I start, I've already been having slight issues since the middle of last year, but I thought nothing of it. Firefox starting up using a good chunk of memory was normal, and I could run it alongside my other programs just fine. However, about 3 or 4 days ago, Firefox has started to spike in memory usage, to the point where it slows my entire computer down, will not load pages, and it's generally a mess. I always have to force close it, too, because whenever I close it conventionally, it's still open in the background. I've been having the background issue for a few months, but it's never been a large problem until the last few days. I had thought, at first, that it was the result of some programs that got installed as part of another installer. I had no issue with the installer, considering it came from a trusted forum for game design on an official topic, from a veteran member. However, it installed multiple toolbars and multiple programs. I went through all of them, uninstalled them, cleared my registry, everything was gone. However, this memory problem reared its ugly head, later. I uninstalled, reinstalled. Didn't work. I tried to reset firefox, but it stayed open in the background, and I could not reset it. I disabled my addons (ones I've been using for over a year, now), nothing. I tried to open Firefox with all addons disabled, but it stayed open in the background and refused to re-open properly. I'm actually on another browser right now because Firefox is no longer working for much of anything... I also put a couple of attachments up to show the increase in question. It starts at around 270,000 K (though the screenshot shows around 312,000), then after about 4 or 5 minutes on my homepage, shoots up to well over 1,000,000 and it basically stops functioning. If anyone has any additional steps they think I could take, I would appreciate it.

  • 10.10.1  I use sysctl.conf to increased shared memory.  10.10.1 does not read sysctl.conf anymore

    I need to increase shared memory.  In 10.10  is use /etc/sysctl.conf with a line   kern.sysv.shmmax=16777216 and this works.  Also in 10.9.  But in 10.10.1 shared memory can no longer be increased from the default 4194304 by this means.
    The question is simple:   how in 10.10.1 does one increase kern.sysv.shmmax  in a way that survives a re-boot

    I have the same problem on my windows 2003 server but the
    thing is that I have not been able to get the same error on any
    other machine including a windows 2003 I installed on VMWare on the
    same machine. I have narrowed down to where in the encoder this
    happens. The encoder uses page file backed file maps to register
    session information. The call to MapViewOfFileEx method of the
    Win32 API fails with the "access denied" error. Whatever it is,
    it's due to some defect in the Windows installation I have because
    I do not get that message on any other windows installation even
    the ones I do with the same windows CD !
    I am still trying to find out what the defect might be but I
    thought you should know it's got nothing to do with you Windows
    make and model...it happens for me on 2k3 and for you on XP...so
    you should looke elsewhere..

  • Problem with Firefox and very heavy memory usage

    For several releases now, Firefox has been particularly heavy on memory usage. With its most recent version, with a single browser instance and only one tab, Firefox consumes more memory that any other application running on my Windows PC. The memory footprint grows significantly as I open additional tabs, getting to almost 1GB when there are 7 or 8 tabs open. This is as true with no extensions or pluggins, and with the usual set, (firebug, fire cookie, fireshot, XMarks). Right now, with 2 tabs, the memory is at 217,128K and climbing, CPU is between 0.2 and 1.5%.
    I have read dozens of threads providing "helpful" suggestions, and tried any that seem reasonable. But like most others who experience Firebug's memory problems, none address the issue.
    Firefox is an excellent tool for web developers, and I rely on it heavily, but have now resorted to using Chrome as the default and only open Firefox when I must, in order to test or debug a page.
    Is there no hope of resolving this problem? So far, from responses to other similar threads, the response has been to deny any responsibility and blame extensions and/or pluggins. This is not helpful and not accurate. Will Firefox accept ownership for this problem and try to address it properly, or must we continue to suffer for your failings?

    55%, it's still 1.6Gb....there shouldn't be a problem scanning something that it says will take up 300Mb, then actually only takes up 70Mb.
    And not wrong, it obviously isn't releasing the memory when other applications need it because it doesn't, I have to close PS before it will release it. Yes, it probably is supposed to release it, but it isn't.
    Thank you for your answer (even if it did appear to me to be a bit rude/shouty, perhaps something more polite than "Wrong!" next time) but I'm sitting at my computer, and I can see what is using how much memory and when, you can't.

    When surfing between websites, the computer screen slows or freezes. I hit the return key and the new page can take 2-3 minutes to come up. The screen shows a message that there is high memory use on firefox, and also thunderbird when loading new incoming emails. The internet files are on C so here is a defrag report from 6.7.2011.
