Vista services missing on pre install

I purchased my notebook over a year ago and am just now trying to instal a printer (I previously used my work laptop).  I keep getting a print spooler error and when I try to start the spooler I get an access denied message.  After maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany hours spent trying to understand what my problem was I finally determined that the preinstall done by Lenovo did not include any SERVICES on my notebook.
When I go to Administrative Tools, services - it is completely empty.
Having looked at someone elses laptop that has Vista I realized something is obviously missing.
Now here is the problem, I don't have disks because it was pre installed, so I don't have a clue where to get these "services" from.  I can't copy them from another computer (tried this no ability to do it) and I can't seem to find files for them.
The service I specifically want is the Print Spooler so that I can at least get a printer attached to my laptop.
Having gone through Lenovo and talked to someone extremely rude (would not even give me his name when I wanted to escalate, in fact hung up on me) who kept saying sorry we can't help you since you are under warranty and wouldn't even suggest what could possible been done, I am at my wits end.  Can anyone give me any advice on this?
Biggest mistake IBM ever did was sell the hardware off to Lenovo!!!

yes u can all you have to do is go to lenovo care or thinkvantage menu which ever you have in your system select the option "create recovery media thid figure should give you some idea....

  • Vista Service Pack 1 wont install. Update keeps asking for it.

Installed Service Pack 1 with Windows Update. Update History says it was successful but it is not in the Installed Updates and Windows keeps asking for SP1 over and over. Vista SP3 is there.
I have tried to install it directly, I closed all security programs and fire wall. I looked to see if there is any missing updates. I've restarted the computer. I have followed all the instructions on the support site.
    Service Pack 3 is installed.
I just don't know what to do.
I have Vista Home Premium 32bit

    Hi
To be honest I never had any problems with my Vista updates
The Vista updates automatically every time when Im online and when new updates are available
How did you try to update the Vista OS?
Did you download the SP1 firstly to HDD or did you run an automatic update?
If the automatic update does not work try to download the SP1 firstly and then start the update procedure:
The SP1 can be downloaded here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.aspx

  • Windows vista service pack 1 keeps installing

My computer crashed, so had hard drive reformated and re-loading Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. Doing all the updates via Windows Update, I get to Service Pack 1. It installs successfully, but won't move onto Service pack 2. I have like 10 supposed successful
installations of Service Pack 1. I even downloaded SP2 and of course it won't install because it says I have to install SP1 first. Read documentation, searched forums and didn't find an answer to this problem. I even downloaded "Mr Fixit" and this didn't help.
I'm somewhat technical, but not a pro. Can's figure this out. Can someone help or point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Maybe im just stupid... But NOTHING that anyone has posted here has helped me at all :P Could someone please explain to me what i need to do to install service pack 1 and 2... I could find someone named Betts83 on the forums that someone said i should
go to and read some posts i found 3 posts.... One that was this exact thread, one that was posted 1st of November and another one wich was posted in 2012... The one from 1st of November didn't help me... And it was the one people said i was suppose to go to
to get help, but it still didn't to anything. Im starting to get impatient because i want to install Assassin's Creed 3, but it requires service pack 2 or higher to run! Maybe because this thread is so old i probably wont get an answer but if someone
would help me fix it it would be much appreciated.

  • Just installed vista and bootcamp won't install because it needs windows 7 in order to install properly

Hey so i just bought by 15" MacbooK Pro yesterday and wanted to install windows vista on it. I'm to the part where you're supposed to install windows bootcamp but a message comes up saying that it needs windows 7 in order to install properly. What do i do?? I have the upgrade version of windows 7 (whcih i was going to eventually install) but when i tried installing it an error message came up saying that it needs vista service pack 1 to install. In order to install that service pack I need to connect to the internet. I can't connect to the internet, though, without installing the drivers from bootcamp!! AHH! see how this is frustrating? PLEASE HELP ASAP!

Reboot your computer while holding down the option key. You should be presented with the option to boot into OSX. Once booted into OSX start Boot Camp Assistant and select remove the Boot Camp Partition.
I know Boot Camp Assistant was not installed in Windows. It is an OSX application for creating and removing a Boot Camp partition. It is run from OSX.

  • Sync Problems After Installing Vista Service Pack 1

I just installed Vista service pack 1. Hotsync ceased to work. So, after checking Palm online help, I downloaded and installed Desktop 6.2 and Hotsync 7. The instructions said not to uninstall my previous version of Desktop 4.2 and Hotsync 6.01. After completing the installation, I find that my data had not been moved to the new location and that some Hotsync items had changed such as Quick Intall to Install. And, I still can't Hotsync. So, here's a series of questions:
How can I get my data over to Desktop 6.2?
Do I want to move the data over or should I reinstall Desktop 4.2? (I use an XP machine to print my schedule and usually simply copy the user folder from the Vista system to the XP system. There's no Vista print driver available for my hp printer.)
Is Palm trying to become Microsoft by changing where they store information to the confusion of a power user?
Any and all help would be appreciated.
    Post relates to: Palm Vx

The version 6.2 of Palm desktop does not support your Vx.
Click here for the support page for 6.2; http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk62.html
The only handhelds supported are Palm TX, Z22; Tungsten E2.
You will need to install the version that is on the CD that came with the Vx. You will need to "clean" uninstall Palm desktop on the Vista PC in order to re-install the older version of Palm desktop.
First thing to consider is, where is the current data. On the device or in the PC?
If you have the data in Palm desktop 6.2, do an export of the data for backup. After the re-install of the older palm desktop, import the data for each category. Since you are still using the XP PC and has data on that system, you can export the data from that PC.
In Vista, the userfolder is in documents-palm os desktop. One caveat here, the data format in the 6.2 user folder is not compatible with the data format in earlier versions of Palm desktop so you cannot copy and paste the entire user folder into the older version of Palm desktop.
Here is a procedure for backing up your data.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
To do the "clean" uninstall on the Vista PC, here are the instructions.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
Disregard the first step above because your data is on the XP PC and we are just going to import the data.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer.
Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
    C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
    PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
*Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
    hide hidden files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
did not sync before create a hotsync name.

  • Services pack 1 for Vista Home premium will not install!

Services pack 1 keeps failing to install on the second stage. I have tried to install it about 8 or 9 times now but still the same. It just completes the first stage then fails.
Please can you advise me what I need to done to get this to install?
    Kind regards
    Adam Betts

    Hi,
During the Windows Vista SP1 installation, this issue occurs when a third-party application holds open a file or locks a file that the Service Pack installation program
has to use. For example, a third-party antivirus or antispyware application may cause this problem. If you are running any third-party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection),
security or anti-virus programs (McAfee, Norton, etc.), I recommend temporarily disabling or shutting them down during the troubleshooting process. Please be sure to re-enable them once the process has completed.
I recommend running Reset Windows Update Tool and System Update Readiness Tool. System resources, such as file data, registry data, and even in-memory data, can develop
inconsistencies during the lifetime of the operating system. These inconsistencies can be caused by various hardware failures or software issues. In some cases, these inconsistencies can affect the Windows servicing store, and they can cause software updates
not to work. We can run Reset Windows Update Tool and System Update Readiness Tool to resolve these inconsistencies. When Reset Windows Update Tool and System Update Readiness Tool detects incorrect manifests, files, or registry data, it might replace the
incorrect data with a corrected version. Please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Run Reset Windows Update Tool and System Update Readiness Tool
    1. Please download and run Reset Windows Update Tool from the link below:
    http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9665683
    2. Please download and run System Update Readiness Tool from the link below according to the System Type:
System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista 32-bit

    3. Restart the computer and install Windows Vista SP1. Let’s reinstall
SP1 standalone installer in Clean Boot.
For your reference, I have attached these steps as below:
Step 1: Download Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Standalone Installer
    ====================================================
    1. Download Windows Vista SP1 from the link below according to the System Type:
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista 32-bit (Size: 544.3MB)
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f559842a-9c9b-4579-b64a-09146a0ba746&DisplayLang=en
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista 64-bit (Size: 873.0MB)
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=86d267bd-dfcd-47cf-aa76-dc0626dcdf10&DisplayLang=en
    2. Please save it on the Desktop.
Step 2: Install Windows Vista SP1 in Clean Boot Mode
    =========================================
Please disable all startup items and third party services when booting to avoid conflict when installing
    Vista SP1.:
    1. Click "Start", type: MSCONFIG in the search box and press Enter.
Note: Please click "Continue" if the "User Account Control" window pops up.
    2. Click "Services", check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
    3. Click "Startup", click "Disable All", click "OK" and restart the computer.
Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't affect the system or other programs. We can manually run these programs later.
    4. Please double click the downloaded Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Standalone Installer and follow the instructions to install Windows
    Vista SP1.
To restore the computer to use a Normal Startup, repeat step 1 above. Then click "Normal Startup" on the General tab, click "OK", and then restart the computer.
Please take your time with the steps and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If there are any questions or concerns, please post here for further
    research.

I tried to Repair using installation disk but during the repair process it requests another CD.  I only got one CD with the PC.  Any ideas how I can repair the corrupted files?

  • Vista Service Pack 2 will not install

I have tried everything that I have found on Google and nothing has worked.  Called Lenovo...........told to check Documents 66956 and 72758.
I did that and updated the ThinkVantage software then installing SP2 as told by tech support.............NO GOOD!
Any suggestions...........someone must have figured it out............
    Thanks

    Hi,
encountered the same problem on my T500/Vista-32.
I successfully installed SP2 a first time via WU.
I then somehow managed to create a slight m..  :-) on my machine and decided to run Rescue and Recovery which led me back to SP1.
I finally succeeded reinstalling SP2 (not via WindowsUpdate-got stuck at some 14%) after several failures by temporarily disconnecting from the network, disabling my internet security program and closing everything in systray (for reasons I ignore, this wasn't necessary on first install).

  • Drivers from various HP pre-installed software

    Hello,
I Have an HP ENVY 6 1040EW Ultrabook.
Because I had issues with my windows system I had to reïnstall windows with disks because a manual factory reset was not possible because of dammaged drivers.
There where no disks for this particular laptop so i had to use normal windows 7 recovery disks.
    My problem:
I recovered Windows 7 with my recovery disks and ofcourse my old pre-installed software was not on my PC.
But I really liked HP coolsense, Beats Audio, HP connection manager and the HP service software to store safely my usernames and passwords. But I can't find the software on the HP website.
Tnx for reading and answering my question.
    Greetings,

    Hi, Bart:
See if this IDT audio driver from your PC's support page installs the Beats software too.

  • How do I find a serial number if my iWork came pre-installed?

I bought iWork preinstalled on my computer, through a discount service from my office. I tried using Pages for the first time and its asking me for a serial number. How do I get one? Why do I need one if this was supposed to have been installed at the factory? The registration message said it should be on a receipt emailed to me but I'm 99% certain I never received a receipt via email. What do I do?

There is no pre installed version.
Its just a free demo you asked Apple to put on your computer.
We don't ask them to install the free demo. As far as I know, it's factory installed on every machine or at least, there is an install CD in the box.
You paid for a registration code, no more no less.
I had purchased my computer several months ago, and because everything was in working order I no longer have the invoice.
How long is the machine guaranteed in the USA ?
In France it's at least one year. So, here everybody keeps invoice at least one year
As far as I know, iWork'08 was introduced in August 2007 so it was less than one year ago.
Does Apple have a record of my purchase and my registration somewhere so I can implement?
If you bought from AppleStore online, I'm sure that they have the references of your invoice but I don't know if they have a copy of your registration code.
    I wrote:
+If your order asked for a machine + iWork, there is a line notifying the iWork's price on your invoice _and you where sent_ a document with the registration number.+
It's the late document which you need.
The invoice is only a proof that your order was for a machine PLUS a registration code.
You may try to call them but get at least the serial number of your machine to help them to retrieve tracks of your order.

  • If Mountain Lion comes pre-installed on my machine, how can I get the OS discs if it's only available via download?

Had someone ask a very good question, I think.
If you buy a new Mac that has Mountain Lion pre-installed on the machine, you are able to download updates as they come out; however, you can't necessarily download the Mountain Lion installer via the App Store since it came already installed on your computer.
So my question is, how can you get a OS disk/drive of Mountain Lion if your computer fails? I know Apple has the Recovery drive, and even the Internet Recovery drive, along with Time Machine and whatever else, but what if none of these options are available to recover the computer?
I suggested to the person to clone their hard drive using the 30-day trial of Carbon Copy Cloner. That way, they have a bootable image with the OS already available in case they run into this option. BUT, what if that isn't even an option? How does one go about recovering their computer if no OS disc of Mountain Lion is available?
I haven't been able to find anything about workarounds besides the methods I mentioned above, so please tell me if I am missing something.

you can't necessarily download the Mountain Lion installer via the App Store since it came already installed on your computer.
Not true. You can go to the Mac App Store and download the installer
(from the link that WALTER-MILANO-ITALY posted above)
Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion
If you completed your installation of OS X, your installer may have been removed after your successful first login to OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion.  Mac App Store's Purchases page should show Install OS X as being "Installed", and disallow its download, when viewed from a computer running OS X.
To redownload the installer on a computer running OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion, press and hold the Option key while you click the Purchases tab. If the button to the right of the Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion item doesn't change to "Install" and allow you to download OS X, use Spotlight to search for "Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion" on your computer.

  • How do I remove the pre-installed Microsoft Office software from my T61 running XP-Pro?

I've reviewed the Lenovo support item on uninstall instructions but it does not say how to get the software off of my hard drive.  Here's the Lenovo item.
To properly uninstall Microsoft Office 2007 Trial from the Lenovo preload, the following applications must be removed.
    2007 Microsoft Office System
Activation Assistant for the 2007 Microsoft Office Suites
Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007
    Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components
Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components
    MS SQL Server 2005
    MS SQL Server Native Client
MS SQL Server Setup Support Files
    MS SQL Server VSS Writer
Uninstalling the Microsoft Office 2007 Office System will not remove all the components.
Uninstalling Business Contact Manager for Outlook will also uninstall MS SQL Server Components. During the uninstall routine, it will ask to delete the mail data file that contains the Business Contact Manager. Clicking OK, will remove the BCM, but not the SQL server apps, as the uninstall states.
    From this point uninstall:
    Activation Assistant,
    MS Office 2003 Web Components
MS Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies,
MS Office Small Business Connectivity Components.
Then remove the MS SQL Server Components of server native client, server setup support files, and VSS writer.
Then remove the Activation Assistant shortcut from the desktop.
The first 3 apps listed are not installed because I have not run the activation assistant for the Office trial that came with the T61.  Add/Remove programs has only these pre-installed apps:
    Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components
Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components
    MS SQL Server 2005
    MS SQL Server Native Client
MS SQL Server Setup Support Files
    MS SQL Server VSS Writer
Is the activation assistant one of them?  I want to inactivate it because it is occasionally triggered somehow.  Besides unintalling those preinstalled apps, I want to take all of the Office components off of my hard disk.
Add/Remove also has these apps but I'm thinking they are not part of Office -- please correct me if I'm wrong
    Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB928366)
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1
    Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard 1.52
FYI, I am using Lotus Suite and OpenOffice.
How do I tidy this up without creating more trouble?  Thanks in advance for suggestions.

No, AFAIK should be listed as Microsoft Office Suite Activation Assistant

  • Question about activation key for pre-installed software after hard drive failure.

I had a hard drive failure on my MacBook Pro last week and had it replaced by Apple.  When I restored my computer with a Time Machine backup, Office 2011 wants an activation key to start up again.  Problem is, I had Office pre-installed when I bought my MacBook by Apple.  Where do I get the activation key to get it working again?

    Q

Do you still have the signons.sqlite and key3.db files from the IT setup?
You can find the sync account password and the sync (recovery) key in the password manager on computers where a sync account with a specific e-mail address has been set up.
    Look for:
    * chrome://weave (Mozilla Services Password)
    * chrome://weave (Mozilla Services Encryption Passphrase)

  • Adobe Photoshop CS4 Full Version and VISTA Service Pack 2

I have brought CS4 Full and recall seeing VISTA Service Pack 1 as requirement.  I keep getting prompted by my computer to download and install Service Pack 2.  What to do:
    1.  Install Photoshop on current setup (SP 1) and then upgrade to SP 2
    2.  Install SP 2 and then load Photoshop
    Thanks for any insight.

SP2 is very stable, uses less ram, and also less hard drive space. If you have not installed CS4 yet just do the SP2 update then CS4. Don't forget to update CS4 to 11.0.1.
Also either way you want to install works. I installed SP2 with PS CS4 on the system and there were no problems running CS4 afterwards.
