Visual c++ express - Illustrator SDK
Hi,
does anybody know if it´s possible to use the "Express Edition" for Illustrator coding
or are there limitations with it. What do you use for coding - srictly Visual Studio/ Code Warrior? Are there any other resources/examples on the net, book or whatever besides the ones that come with the sdk. Any suggestions on how to start coding Illustrator are welcome - come on pros, please share same knowledge ;)

Is the Illustrator SDK thread-safe?
After searching this forum and the Illustrator SDK documentation, I can't find any references to a discussion about threading issues using the Illustrator C++ SDK. There is only a reference in some header files as to whether menu text is threaded, without any explanation.
I take this to mean that probably the Illustrator SDK is not "thread-safe" (i.e., it is not safe to make API calls from arbitrary threads; you should only call the API from the thread that calls into your plug-in). Does anyone know this to be the case, or not?
If it is the case, the normal way I'd write a plug-in to respond to requests from other applications for drawing services would be through a mutex-protected queue. In other words, when Illustrator calls the plug-in at application startup time, the plug-in could set up a mutually exclusive lock (a mutex), start a thread that could respond to requests from other applications, and request periodic idle processing time from the application. When such a request arrived from another application at an arbitrary time, the thread could respond by locking the queue, adding a request to the queue for drawing services in some format that the plug-in would define, and unlocking the queue. The next time the application called the plugin with an idle event, the queue could be locked, pulled from, and unlocked. Whatever request had been pulled could then be serviced with Illustrator API calls. Does anyone know whether that is a workable strategy for Illustrator?
I assume it probably is, because that seems to be the way the ScriptingSupport.aip plug-in works. I did a simple test with three instances of a Visual Basic generated EXE file. All three were able to make overlapping requests to Illustrator, and each request was worked upon in turn, with intermediate results from each request arriving in turn. This was a simple test to add some "Hello, World" text and export some jpegs,
repeatedly.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am not hitting the upper memory bounds - I have several customers that have 10's of Gb free.
There is no error return code from the ->NewPtr() call.

A NULL pointer is how you detect a problem.
Note that changing the size of the ->ReserveMemory() doesn't seem to make any difference as to whether you'll get a memory ptr or NULL back.
btw my NewPtr size is either
W x H x sizeof(PrPixelFormat_YUVA4444_32f)
W x H x sizeof(PrPixelFormat_YUVA4444_8u)
and happens concurrently on #cpu's threads (eg 16 to 32 instances at once is pretty common).
The more processing power that the nVidia card has seems to make it fall over faster.
eg I don't see it at all on a GTS 250 but do on a GTX 480, Quadro 4000 & 5000 and GTX 660
I think there is a threading issue and an issue with the Memory Suite's pool and how it interacts with the CUDA memory pool. - note that CUDA sets RESERVED (aka locked) memory which can easily cause a fragmenting problem if you're not using the OS memory handler. -

I am new to Microsoft developing tools and I have spent the last two days trying to install VS Express 2013 for Web on my laptop that's running windows 8.1 (X64,Intel
Core i5 3337U (1.80GHz)).
I run it as an administrator and have enough space on the disk. However, I keep on getting the same error.
Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013 for Web - ENU Fatal error during installation.
After uninstalling and deleting the temp files, I get an additional error.

It maybe a registry or administrator issue.
Please install VS with administrator.
What's more, it maybe a corrupt registry issue. And you can't install any version of Visual Studio, I think you can use the tool to fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled. It also can fix the corrupted registry keys.

I am trying to integrate simulink model (.mdl) file with SIT of Labview for RCP and HIL purpose. I am using Labview 8.6, Simulink 6.6 with RTW 6.6 and RTW embedded coder 4.6 ,Visual C Express 2008 and Visual C++ Express 2008. Where can I find a good tutorial on creating views in SQL Server in Visual Studio Express 2013 for Desktop? I think Visual Studio Express 2013 for Desktop doesn't have some view designer that
exists in the non-express version of Visual Studio (if I'm not mistaken). So I think I'd need a tutorial on how to do the actual SQL, unless there is some tool I don't know about.

According to your description, if you install SQL Server SQL Server 2014 Express and SQL Server Manager Studio tools (SSMS), if you want to create a view, you can use SSMS. Then if you want to connect to and Diagram your SQL Express Database in Visual Studio
2013, you can attach the database file by using the .NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server in Visual Studio, and create a database diagram via expanding the “Database Diagrams” node.

Error while installing Visual Studio Express 2013 with Update 4 for Windows Desktop.
When I try to install Visual Studio Express 2013 with Update 4 for Windows Desktop, I

I get the visual studio Express 2008 back in operationVisual C++ 2008 Express is no longer supported. You really should consider a newer version. Bear in mind that Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition is free, and contains way more features than your version.
However if you need the 2008 version apparently if you download the ISO version of Visual C++ 2008 Express, you don't need to register. Try these links:

Editing pages created using dreamweaver with microsoft's visual studio express
Here's a quick, somewhat vague, question for anyone who might have an answer. Is there a trick to editing pages created using dreamweaver with Microsoft Visual Studio Express? The reason I ask is I recently finished a web site for my first client who now wants to make edits herself using the program she uses, that being Microsoft. I thought it would be as easy as pulling the html files from the server (or the usb flash drive i gave her), making changes and then putting them back to the server, but apparently she is having some problems. I'm meeting with her soon. I have no experience with any other programs, other than Adobe, so I don't know how much good I'll be in helping her. Maybe it's an easy question, maybe not. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Hi David, I meant the templates with the dwt extension, not the html files that are created from them. The full version of VS will recognize the dwt extension as 'Dynamic Web Template' but as this is a microsoft extension it does not recognize the code for editing and shows a large number of errors, (before anyone comments the dwt file extension is used by a number of other programs, all referring to a different file type).

Based on my research, if we want to open the report from report server to Business Intelligence Development Studio, we should download the report from report manager, then add this item in Business Intelligence Development Studio. For more details, please
see the following steps:
Type the URL in IE browser to access the repot manager.
Browse to the RDL file folder or location.
Hover over the report, and click the drop-down arrow near the RDL file.
Click on download button, the download window will pop up now. Then save the rdl file.
Click Manage option in the drop-down list, make a note of its Data Source Connection string.
Create a Report Server Project in Business Intelligence Development Studio.
Right-click the Reports folder to open the Add Existing Item dialog box, navigate to the location where you saved the .rdl file for the report, and then click Add.
Right-click the Data Source to verify the connection string is correct.
Besides, please make sure that software vendor had assigned ‘View reports’, ’Manage reports’, ‘Manage folder’ and ‘Manage data sources’ tasks for your account, so that you can download the report and view the data source.

Must Adobe Illustrator be installed for such a program would work?Well, if Idraw can do it you would need to figure out which format it likes (probably tiff would be my guess), save in that format and open the image there and proceed with however it works. The only useful advice I can offer is that jpg is a poor choice for any image that includes text. It will be fuzzy.

I'm in college, and the class I am in is programming, so in order to do my work, I need C++ (which our required work is through Visual Studio Express). Unfortunately, after every single time I try to download Visual Studio Express: Community 2013
with Update 4, it gives me these error messages: "SETUP FAILED! Install cannot continue because some required components failed.", "Visual Studio Core Features: Fatal error during installation", and "Visual Studio Core Features - ENU:

Can’t I develop this plugin with visual studio 2013?The SDK is produced when the version of Acrobat is released, so if you insist on using obsolete SDKs for obsolete Acrobat you can hardly criticise the Acrobat 9 SDK for being out of date.
To develop for Acrobat 9 (obsolete)+10+11 you can use the Acrobat 9 SDK but it may require some work and expertise to get it to work in all versions. Get the other SDKs for reference.
