Vixia M40 or R52 or R62 for shooting yourself writing in the style of Vi Hart?
I want to write in pencil on a piece of lined looseleaf paper (i.e., school paper) with a camcorder overhead filming me write. I want it to be crystal clear and readable, what I'm writing.
Vi Hart posts similar videos on YouTube although she uses a sharpie. She said that she uses a Vixia M40. Since they're discontinued is an R52 or R62 sufficient for the same task? Do either of these models supersede the M40?

I don't know what the replacement for the Vixia M40 is but the R62 and R52 have smaller image sensors than the M40. However to find a Canon camcorder the the same size image sensor as the M40 will cost about $450 more (Canon Vixia HF G20). I did see one (M40) that claims to be new and in the box on Amazon for about the price (with shipping) as the R62 and R52. The larger image size will be better in low-light situations. However, if you have adequate lighting then either the R62 or R52 should work. From what I could find the specs for those are nearly identical. You can look at the specs and see which one is best for you. I saw one of the videos you are talking about and noticed how the scene is well lit.

Looking for good book on using DSLR for shooting video
I recently purchased a new Canon t3i DSLR. I've been watching videos on YouTube and it seems like this camera is capable of taking great HD video. My test videos look nothing like these examples. I am looking for a good resource that will teach me what settings to use, especially manual settings for shooting videos. Of course it would be great to find something specific to my camera, but I'm sure that the techniques will apply to most DSLRs.

Optimum settings for shooting HD video?
I just purchased a Panasonic AG-AC160a camcorder with the firmware upgrade to 1080/59.97p format with MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression. Since this is an upgrade from my DV tape camcorder I'm kind of lost and not sure what the best video format is to record in. I am shooting youth hockey games and want to produce the best HD picture I can and with as few steps as possible in PP CS5. I shoot approximately 45 minutes of content and I want to fit everything on one media disk. Thanks for any guidance on the best format settings.

Welcome to the wonderful world of HD. I've used the 160a before and it's a nice camera. I've been shooting with HMC150's for 3 years now and I think we squeeze every bit of juice out of it. A good forum for Panasonic users is DVXUser.com Go there and find the 160a category and they'll be really helpful with camera questions.
When it comes to HD footage on these cards, eventually you'll really like that each time you stop the camera it makes a new clip. That way if you have shot a lot of clips you can pick and choose which ones to import or transcode (to a different format if you'd like) and save disc space if you are transcoding your clips to another format (which can sometimes be easier on your system than editing these native AVCHD files...that depends on your computer and how powerful it is). First, you are going to want to copy the ENTIRE contents of the SDHC/SDXC card onto your scratch drive (scratch drive just means a separate hard drive where all your footage is stored. Don't edit off of the card reader...copy it ALL to your drive and use that. Again, you have to copy the ENTIRE folder structure of the card not just the little video files. Then you can use Premiere's Media Browser to import the clips that you want. Just SHIFT+SELECT all the clips that you'd like and right-click and import the clips. If you want to drag multiple clips to your timeline, go ahead and shift+select all the clips you want and drag/drop on the timeline and they'll all drop on in order. You are shooting Hockey so I think it's important to turn your shutter on in your camera. These cameras sometimes have "shutter off" as default...if I remember right. It's easy to adjust. There's a shutter button at the top of the panel where the LCD closes and you'll want to have a shutter speed of at least double your frame rate. Normally double is acceptable. So if you're shooting 60fps, then hit the shutter button and adjust to 1/120. When it says "shutter off" at 60fps that means it's at 1/60. That looks just fine in my opinion but for fast sports, you may not want that motion blur so I'd turn the shutter on. If you shoot at 30fps, then set the shutter to at least 1/60. Going to too fast of a shutter speed may start to create a hyper-real look similar to the opening beach scene in Saving Private Ryan which may not be what you want which is why I say go double your frame rate to start.
Also, if you are on tripod, you may want to turn OFF the OIS (image stabilzation) so you don't have any issues with it shifting at all. We keep the OIS on most of the time, but every once in a while on a tripod we need to turn it off because when you are doing lots of panning (which will be the case I'm assuming with Hockey) then you might see these weird little shifts in the image with these cameras as the OIS is catching up. If your final product is going to the web then I'd suggest either 720p60 or 1080p60 since computer screens are progressive. If you are just going to DVD, then you probably won't notice a huge difference with 1080 vs. 720 on these cameras. That's my experience anyway. If you go to Bluray, then maybe try 1080. The forum I mentioned above will help you with those camera related choices.
If you notice your computer getting bogged down editing these native AVCHD files, first switch Premiere's windows to "1/2 resolution" instead of "full". Or you may want to transcode to a different format (eg. if you're on a mac, transcode to ProRes 422). Again, like I said before, it depends on your computer's strength. Good luck! -
What's the recommended format for shooting video thats going on websites
I'm basically looking to do video for websites. Since computer screens are displaying progressively. Is shooting (Progressive Frame Rates) always the better option for shooting video. This is if your only final destination is going to be the internet ?
Also, is streaming always the better route ? If you can afford a personal server, isnt streaming the best method of posting multiple video clips ?
Thanks - Appreciate all repliesJust one more note to add to the good ones already here: Make sure your source material is as good as it can possibly be. Maybe I'm the weirdo, but in my experience scaling down and compressing video for Web delivery exaggerates rather than hiding shortcomings in the source material. Most of my content is delivered over the Web, but I shoot everything in high-definition with aggressively contrasty lighting and deeply crushed blacks. You might think it wouldn't matter, since it's all getting downscaled and compressed for distribution anyway, but at least to my eyes, material that's shot in high resolution (and yes, at 23.976) with a lot of in-camera contrast compresses better. You end up with fewer subtle areas of mostly-the-same luminance, like in the backgrounds, and that's where Internet compression really falls apart. By keeping everything in sharp contrast, and especially by underlighting your backgrounds and really crushing your blacks, I feel you give the encoder a little advantage and let it produce a better result.
But that might just be me. -
Which gear goes well for shooting 'amateur videos' with iPhone 5?
Hi to all. Recently purchased this phone with a view to use it also as a 'second camera' for shooting my videos which I post on YT.
Would like to be guided by iPhone owners who so use their mobiles for shooting videos as to what type gear goes well for shooting good videos.

There was a bug in 6.1.3 that could allow access to photos and there was a bug in 7.0.2 that allowed access to the phone app but nothing else. I'm not aware of one in 7.0.4 that will give access. The Activation Lock will prevent reuse of the phone even if they wipe it via recovery mode and there is no none bypass for Activation Lock.

Some Pro's Opinions on the Best iPod for exercise and while using the MBP.
Is it true that because of the moving parts that the classic should not be used for any type of exercise? When they first came out, I never thought about this or never got this from anybody else so I used my Classic for year without any trouble. I do not do aerobic exercise since the ear buds would not stay in my ear canal, but it seemed to work great. this was a long time ago, I think around 2001, but it got stolen so that ended that for me.
I am now in the market for another one, getting some better Westone 3 ear plugs, but I am not sure what iPod to get. I am not into breaking iPods, now that I have this information that was not a problem many years ago, but I would like some feedback if anybody cares to share their experience. I would need a case and wondering if anybody has used a case that works well for exercise as far as sweat clipping it somewhere, etc.
finally, has anybody come across the articles they have on here somewhere that applecare uses when we all cal in with a problem, they are the same articles that applecare (I heard this, but makes sense) uses as a starting point in trouble shooting problems. Anybody know how to get in to that archive?
As far as the ear plugs, I know a headset would be better to use with the MBP, but since I am spending a fortune for the Westone 3 ear plugs, I am trying to see if they will sound good on the MBP.
God Bless.iPods with hard drives such as the Classic (the older iPod you describe was not a Classic by the way. It's counterintuitive but the Classic is the most recent series of hard drive based iPods) will be more prone to failure if subjected to jarring. "More prone" doesn't mean that the will fail you ever exercise with them. My first gen iPod (the 5gig brick) was used for running when I owned it and is still being used for running by the friend I gave it to.
I also used my 3rd gen Nano, 2nd gen shuffle and all three generations of Touches for exercise, including running. The are all flash based so less susceptible to problems from jarring or bouncing. The Nano and the 2nd and 3rd gen touch can be used with the Nike+ Sport kit which is nice if you walk or run. The Touch also has applications that can be useful when exercising. For example, I use an interval timer. The 2nd gen Shuffle is my iPod of choice when racing as it's easier to hide if they want to give me a hard time about it and because it's so light. Before the Touch supported the Nike+ Sport Kit, I used the Nano a lot.
My best advice, especially if you're not running, is to buy whichever iPod suits most of your needs. If the Classic suits you because of it's greater capacity, for example, go for it.

the Wifi storage options are interesting but it seems they only allow to read files from the device on the iPad but not transfer files to the storage device via WiFi.
I'm looking for a possibility to use the iPad for photography while traveling, without the access to a computer.
Shooting photo's in RAW format crates pretty big files that will fill up the iPad's memory pretty fast if you shoot a lot during a (let's say) month long trip.
my idea was to use load the photo's to the iPad so i could view them and sort out any bad ones. then copy them over to the storage device so i can continue using my CF cards for shooting. I have an image thank for copying the photo's directly to the HDD but it would be so sweet to be able to check them on the iPad before hand.
any suggestions?Check out pogo plug device, it allows you to upload camera roll via wifi.

Cannot send email from my iPhone or iPad. The server rejects a recepient for no apparent reason. The recipient is not new. This issue happens on reply or reply to all or froward; not a new email to the same recepient. What is happening?
I talked with a tech today and he said I cloud is having problems which should be resolved shortly.
In the mean time I used the .me smtp server settings which allowed me to send mail. -
When i double click itunes it doesn't open it just comes up with an error saying " The itunes library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the 'itunes' folder in the 'music' folder. How can i fix this problem?
Anyone can help to advice how to solve this issue ?

I have been given permission for unlocking my iphone 3 GS from Orange. I want to set up the phone for my wife to use with a new number and carrier. Do I unlock under my itunes account first ( I now have a new iphone on this account) or set one up for her and then unlock the phone. I am worried about upsetting the new phone.
I would complete unlocking as is and then
restore as new once you know the iPhone is unlocked
Be aware Orange will process the request at their speed

Currently have ipod touch 4 and am getting iphone 5c this weekend. Currently our family has several apple devices and they have the same apple ID for itunes and it is the same ID that we use for icloud. I want to set up a separate icloud ID so that it is only on my new device. I still want to keep the same apple ID for purchases. Can I do this and better yet when do I do this...before the purchase, after the purchase and backing up of data. Where do I go to create a new one?

error while executing script for sharepoint online (office 365) - the remote server returned an error: (503) server unavailable.
I am creating many site collections reading records from sharepoint list using powershell in sharepoint online tenant (office 365).
Few site collections are created and then getting above error so this error record will be skipped then few succeeding record processed then again getting error.

I have 3 older ext. hard drives that I've utilized many times. Today while searching for old files, one of the three is no longer recognized by my PowerMac. The drive is not listed in Disk Utility. Any suggestions?
Is the computer in you equipment line:
Dual Core Intel Xenon
(which is not a PowerMac but a Mac Pro) the one you are asking about, or do you have an older PowerMac?

If the stubborn external is USB and does not have its own power brick (i.e., it gets power only from the computer's UBS ports--"bus powered"), it may not be getting enough power. As electric motors age, they can demand more power than when new, and the power available on any USB port is limited.
The typical workabouts to making a computer recognize an aging, bus-powered USB drive are:
Get a powered USB hub (has its own power brick
Get a "Y" USB cable: 1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
The second gets power from two USB ports on the computer and often that's enough.
Remember that the USB ports on your keyboard seldom provide enough power even for a thumb drive, so be sure to use the USB ports on the back of the computer. -
Free Goods for multiple line items of the same material
Hi Friends,
We have configured Free Goods to a particular material in such a way that if the customer orders 100 qty of Material A then he gets 10 qty of Material B free. This is working fine if there is only one line item of Material A with qty more than 100.
However, if the order is created in such a way that there are two line items of material A for 50 qty each then the system is not giving the free material B, even though the total ordered qty in the sales order for material A is 100.
How can this be configured in the system? Please Help.
