Volume wheel on Toshiba Portege M700-S7005X doesn't work

I had to reinstall windows on my computer, and everything works perfect, except for the fact that my volume wheel no longer does anything. I have to adjust volume using the system slider. Anyone know how to get my wheel working again? Thanks!
-Daniel

Thanks for your answers so far.
@Xaver:
No I have win 7 clean install (instead of Vista), which is the reason I tried the workaround I linked to.
@nifer:
No yellow bangs in the device manager, and, even more important only one entry called something like "Toshiba virtual modem" under "modem" in the device managaer (I thinkthat the four entrys for the 3g moduldrivers should be under "modem" in the device manager)
- Is it possible to check this powerrail without having to disassemble the whole notebook? Where is the modul located?
@xardas: I think it has, at least the guy who sold me the (used) notebook said so. The model Number begins with ppm70e, which I believe is the specific model of m700. There also is a sticker with a "wireless WAN IMEI" and a number at the backside and a slot for the sim-card behind battery-pack, which both would be very suspicious for a notebook not having a 3G modul.

  • Toshiba Portege M700-S7003X startup problem

I have a Toshiba Portege M700-S7003X (Part#PPM70U-03M01J; Serial#38084271H). Few days ago while I was working on the notebook suddenly a message showed up to restart the computer for some update purpose. However, when I tried to restart seems to me the computer is crashed. Right now whenever I try to startup it shows up messages: Safe Mode; Safe Mode with Networking; Safe Mode with Command Prompt; Last known Good config that Start windows normally. However, I tried with every option and at every case gets a quick blue screen which doesn't let me really see what's been said and then restarts.
I would highly appreciate if anyone suggest me the possible ways to solve the problems.
    Thanks!!

That's a good sign. It usually means the hard drive contains some corrupt files and can be repaired, but it's not easy.
You should boot to the Recovery Console and try to resurrect the hard drive by running chkdsk /r. See KB297185.
Unless you have access to a Windows XP installation CD, you will need the downloadable Setup boot floppies. And you may need a PA3109U-3FDD USB Floppy Disk Drive.

  • USB recovery media from Toshiba for Windows 7 doesn´t work

    Hi,
Recently as my laptop Potégé was slow I reinstalled Windows without using Toshiba recovery disks. Now I can't activate Windows 7 (64 bits), so I ordered a USB recovery media from Toshiba. I tried to use it but it doesn't work. I turn off the laptop, turn it on again pressing F12, -with the USB plugged to the laptop- and when I press HDD recovery, the system just takes me to Windows as usual, without reinstalling. Any thoughts on how to reinstall?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Are you getting a boot option menu when you press f12?  Have you tried going into BIOS to check your boot order?  Usually f2 or DEL will get you to BIOS, or at the bottom of the boot option menu (which I assume is f12).  Once you are in BIOS, check that your USB drive is above the others in the boot order and save your configuration and reboot.  If you are still having a problem, you might check to see how many USB devices you have plugged in, or chained, and remove the ones that are not necessary because they could interfere with booting to your USB drive.  If you are using a USB hub, you might try putting the usb key into a different slot to give it priority over the other USB devices on boot up.  The highest priority slot on a USB hub might be the one closest to the USB cable that plugs in to your laptop's USB port.

  • Toshiba Laptop Webcam/Mic doesn't work, how can I fix it?

It just won't start up, it's simply a black screen rather then my face. I also get a message saying that a USB device is not recognized?
I've looked into the Device Manager and uninstalled the Webcam Driver and restarted my computer. Still doens't work, infact now it doesn't even recognize that I have a webcam anymore at all. I thought restarting my computer would reinstall it.
Also, I don't know the particular model number of my laptop but I have the original box so I can guess at what it could be. PSK98C-00F001 is probably it but looking it up on http://support.toshiba.com/ says that it's not valid.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi MarwanDiamond ,
Still doens't work, infact now it doesn't even recognize that I have a webcam anymore at all. I thought restarting my computer would reinstall it.
Have you tried resetting the bios?
Click HERE - Reset the BIOS to factory defaults settings. This will allow you to re-detect all components inside the laptop including your webcam.
BTW: Once you are inside Setup Utility [BIOS] go to Advanced > System configuration > WEB CAMERA must be ENABLE.
Click HERE - How to troubleshoot webcam.
    Hope this works for you!
BTW IF YOU THINK IT HELPS ALOT. PLEASE DONT BE AFRAID TO CLICK KUDOS star ^_^

  • Portege M700 and Mobilink stopped working

This used to work efficiently before but suddenly stopped working 3 days ago and I do not know why. I have a USB option with Huawei or inserting the SIM card under the battery then use Mobilink. It always worked with both but now neither works. In Mobilink it reports Radio Off and with the USB it reports that the modem is already used. Wifi works normally.
    Anybody have any ideas?

Toshset is a command line tool allowing access to much of the Toshiba hardware interface. It can do things like control display brightness, set the fan speed, and enable the optional Bluetooth interface. It has current version Toshset 1.75.
Toshset version 1.75 brings support for switching on the 3G modem.
Download the new version of toshset.
Make the 3G recognized as a Mobile Broadband Modem
To get the modem to be recognized you will need to patch the "option" module and recompile the kernel
This take long time, but maybe you can try it.
    Solution:
    Re-compiling the kernel:
    Getting needed packages:
The linux source code, the curses library and some other tools need to be installed to help compile .
sudo apt-get install linux-source-2.6.17 kernel-package libncurses5-dev fakerootthe source will be installed to the /usr/src directory in as a compressed file.
To make things easier, put yourselv in root mode by using sudo to open a new shell. There??s other ways to do this, but this I prefere.
sudo /bin/bashNow change directory into the source location so that you can install. Note that you may need to install the bunzip utility if it??s not installed.
    cd /usr/src
    echo $(uname -r) | bunzip2 linux-source-$(cut -c -6).tar.bz2
    echo $(uname -r) | tar xvf linux-source-$(cut -c -6).tar
    echo $(uname -r) | ln -s linux-source-$(cut -c -6) linux
    Patching the option module:
    http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg18847.html)
    cp /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb/serial/option.c /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb/serial/option.c.orig
    gedit /usr/src/linux/drivers/usb/serial/option.c
    Ctrl+F and find this string "#define NOVATELWIRELESS_PRODUCT_EU870D"
Insert new line after the EXPEDITE PRODUCTS section and add the following text:
    /* TOSHIBA PRODUCTS */
    #define TOSHIBA_VENDOR_ID 0x0930
    #define TOSHIBA_PRODUCT_HSDPA_MINICARD 0x1302
Ctrl+F and find this string "{ USB_DEVICE(0x1da5, 0x4515) }, /* BenQ H20 */" insert a new line after this line and paste the following:
    { USB_DEVICE(TOSHIBA_VENDOR_ID, TOSHIBA_PRODUCT_HSDPA_MINICARD ) }, /* Toshiba 3G HSDPA == Novatel Expedite EU870D MiniCard */
save the file and close it.
    Configure the New kernel:
Make a copy of your existing kernel configuration to use for the custom compile process. Note that the ` character is the one below the tilde ~
cp /boot/config-`uname -r` /usr/src/linux/.config Now will launch the utility that will let you customize the kernel:
    cd /usr/src/linux
    make menuconfig
First, go down to Load an Alternate Configuration File, and load the .config file. (just hit enter)
    http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/12/WindowsLiveWriter/CustomizeYourKernelonUbuntu_86BF/loadaltconfig.png
Hit Exit and save the configuration when prompted.
    Compile the kernel:
Now you are ready for compile. First do a make clean, just to make sure everything is ready for the compile.
make-kpkg cleanNext we??ll actually compile the kernel. This will take long time! Maybe you can go watch movie with your wife.
    fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version=-custom kernel_image kernel_headers
This process will create two .deb files in /usr/src that contain the kernel. The linux-image**** file is the actual kernel image, and the other file contains the headers. You can install both with dpkg. The filenames will probably be different on your system.
*Please note that when you run these next commands, this will set the new kernel as the new default kernel. This could break things! If your machine doesn??t boot, you can hit Esc at the GRUB loading menu, and select your old kernel. You can then disable the kernel in /boot/grub/menu.lst or try and compile again.*
    dpkg -i linux-image-*-custom_*-custom-10.00.Custom_i386.deb
    dpkg -i linux-headers-*-custom_*-custom-10.00.Custom_i386.deb
Now reboot your machine. If everything works, you should be running your new custom kernel. You can check this by using uname. Note that the exact number will be different on your machine.
    uname -r
    2.6.28.9-ubuntu1-custom
    Final Touches
Now if you click on the Network Manager Applet you will find that the Mobile Broadband modem is recognized. In my case it is recognized as two modems which forces nm-applet to put the full name of the modem "Toshiba Wireless Broadband (3G HSDPA) SM-Bus Minicard Status Port".
To connect, you will need first to run this command
    sudo toshset -3g on
You will see the 3G modem indicator light switched on. Now you can click on the Network Manager icon and if you have two entries for the modem choose the upper one, that is the one that works for me
To make things easier, there is a written script that will toggle the 3g modem on and off and created a launcher icon for it in my pannel. I have also created a keyboard short cut for it.
sudo gedit /usr/bin/3g-togglepaste the following in the new file:
    #!/bin/bash
    modem_status=$(gksudo "toshset -3g")
    echo $modem_status | grep "on"
    if [[ $? -eq 0 ]] ; then
    gksudo "toshset -3g off"
    else
    gksudo "toshset -3g on"
    fi
save the file and close it then make it executable:
    sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/3g-toggle
Now right-click on any free space on your panels and choose "Add to panel..." then double-click on "Custom Application Launcher" and create it as follows:
    Type: Application
    Name: Toggle 3G Modem
    Command: 3g-toggle
Comment: Toggle 3G Modem on and off
press on the icon to choose a meaningful icon then press Close to save your new launcher.
You can also have a keyboard shortcut to toggle the 3G on and off by going to System => Preferences => Keyboard Shortcuts. Press "Add" then write "Toggle 3G Modem" as the name and 3g-toggle as the command. A new shortcut will be created under "Custom Shortcuts" named "Toggle 3G Modem". Click on the word "Disabled" and when you see "New shortcut.." press the keyboard combination of your choice. Then press "Close".
    *Important Note:*
*The patched "option" kernel module will be lost on every kernel upgrade.*
*To fix this, you either repeat the process of patching the "option" module and recompile the kernel or just copy the patched binary (option.ko) from your previous kernel to the new one.*
So if you use this solution for patching, the location of the patched module will be in /lib/modules/2.6.*custom*/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/option.ko
so you will need to adjust the commands accordingly.
I don??t know if you want to try use this, maybe it can help.
You said you live in Switzerland. I like it very much is it cold in this year?

  • Portege R500 - Touchpad doesn't work on Windows 7

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate but cannot get the touchpad to work.
    Any suggestions for a fix?

Have you tested an external mouse as I already suggested?
You can try to install Value Added Package for another Portege series notebook. Just search a little bit on the Toshiba website.
In worst case you have to restore factory settings (preinstalled OS). There should the mouse working properly.

  • The charger port on my Toshiba Satellite C55D-A5208 doesn't work anymore?

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55D-A5208 laptop, and when I tried to plug in my regular charger into my laptop, the place where I plug my charger into the charging place on laptop got pushed in further into my laptop and now my charger can't reach the charging place of my laptop, and I'm not sure what to do. I'm not really a tech or mechanical professional but is there anyway to fix this, so I can charge my laptop again? It's because I really don't want to have to go to a repair shop and pay $200 or more dollars if I can just fix it on my own. And, I also thought that since my laptop has a USB port it, is there a laptop charger adapters out there? Would that be a better option to charge my laptop since the charging place on my laptop got pushed further into my computer? Thank you.

Thanks for your hint, but I tried to roll back windows to a status before the updates. However, during this process I got error 0x80070005.
I repeated the process with :
    - Internet disconnected
    - without the Internet security package Kaspersky active
My laptop was pre-installed with windows 8.1 and is not connected to other workstations.
Can you give me another hint please ?

    Additional information :
The left/right buttons work fine, but when i move with my finger over the touchpad it acts like the up and down arrows.
Moving left or right doesn't do anything.
Disabling the touchpad with F5 also works fine

  • Re: Toshiba TEMPRO 3.3 doesn't work on Windows 7

    Hi,
I just wanted to report that the new Toshiba TEMPRO v3.3 software (for MS Windows 7) does not work. It displays the message "Toshiba TEMPRO has stopped working" and that is that. The older version (v3.0) used to work flawlessly. Anyway, does anyone happen to have the old version executable?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi
Please note that there are two different Tempro applications!
One for Vista and one for Win 7.
The newest version (at this time) for Win 7 is v3.3.1
You have installed Tempro for Windows Vista.
Possibly your registry was muddled up and therefore the Tempro for Win 7 does not run properly on your syste.
I have installed the Tempro for Win 7 on my Win 7 notebook and its running!
In your case I recommend removing/uninstalling Tempro firstly.
Then reboot the unit and install CCLeaner which helps you to clean the OS (files and registry). Repeat this cleaning process two, three times.
After new reboot, try to install Tempro again.

Got an Windows 7 upgrade through Toshiba for my M750 tablet pc. Everything went smooth and seems to be working, except (!) the tablet functions. The pen is not recognized. Touch a little bit, but unpredictably.
Please advise what I can do.
    Thanks

    Hi
Are all devices recognized properly in device manager? Have you checked this?
As far as I know you have to install or update the Dual Touch driver. This dirver is for the Digitizer and touch screen model. It enables the functionality that the Tablet PC Pen or finger can be used as a pointing device.
You can download this driver on the Toshiba website.
    Check this!!

  • Toshiba Notebook Registration software doesn't work

    Hi everybody,
the registration software starts in autostart modus after launching the computer.
But it fails everytime. I could'nt find an uninstall programm or the software by itself to change the autostart settings.
Does anybody has a tip what I have to do to switch of this constant program?
    Thx in advance

Run msconfig to view what is starting up, you should be able to disable it in the Boot Items.
Be careful what you disable though, you should do a System Restore backup first.

  • Portege m700 Tablet Extended Desktop Problem

I've looked all over and can't find a good answer to this, so I figured I'd better check with the source!  I have a Toshiba Portege m700 tablet PC, which has an LCD monitor connected using the digital cable.
I have the external monitor set as my primary, with the notebook monitor set as the secondary, providing extra desktop real estate to the right of the first monitor.
The problem is that when I use the touchscreen, the mouse controls are only active on the primary monitor (the external one).  What I'd like to do is have the external monitor be primary, the notebook monitor be secondary, and be able to drag items to the notebook and use ink, or onenote, or other touchscreen apps on there.  I want the touchscreen to control ONLY the secondary (notebook) monitor.  Is this possible?
It seems like there should be some way to just instruct the computer to map the touchscreen to the secondary monitor instead of always just mapping to the primary.
However, if there is not, what I did experiment with is having the notebook as primary and the external as secondary, and then using some sort of multimonitor software to manage the taskbar and such to create the illusion of the external monitor being primary.  The problem here is that while the notebook is 1280 x 800 resolution, the external monitor is capable of 1280 x 1024, but when set as secondary will go no higher than 1280 x 800.  Is there a way to force the external monitor to run in 1280 x 1024 if I'm using it as the secondary?
Is this something for which I need an updated graphics driver?  I tried to get a newer version of the Intel GMA, but it actually removed all extended desktop options for me, so I rolled it back.  The version it's running is 6.14.10.4837.
Thank you in advance for anyone pointing me to any driver updates, configuration directions, or external software that can effectively manage all these options of extended desktop, screen resolution, and what monitor is assigned to touchscreen control!

I've just tested the "Extended Desktop for Tablet PC" powertoy, and that doesn't solve this problem.  With the tablet set as the secondary monitor, when I move the window onto that screen, it just recurses the image over itself, which isn't really useful.
No one has any other ideas about this?

You can find only a Windows XP tablet edition drivers on the Toshiba European driver page! But you will not find a Windows XP tablet Edition 2005 OS for download!!!
You will have to buy a clean OS and then you could install the Toshiba drivers downloaded for the notebook.
PS: I dont know what OS was preinstalled on your M700 but mostly a Toshiba recovery CD/DVD should be delivered together with the notebook.
