VPLS on 6500

Hi
Please help me, I would like to setup VPLS on two routers (6504) with the following modules and Advanced-Enterprise version 15 IOS. Anybody knows whether this feature is supported or not. If not, what is my minimum requirement for supporting VPLS.
6504# show module
Mod Ports Card Type Model Serial No.
1 2 Supervisor Engine 720 (Active) WS-SUP720-3BXL SAL134322F9
3 24 CEF720 24 port 1000mb SFP WS-X6724-SFP SAL1219PUZU
4 48 48-port 100FX SFP Ethernet Module WS-X6148-FE-SFP SAL1216N2QD
<<... output omitted ...>>
Mod Sub-Module Model Serial Hw Status
1 Policy Feature Card 3 WS-F6K-PFC3BXL SAL134325LA 1.11 Ok
1 MSFC3 Daughterboard WS-SUP720 SAL13421LZN 4.0 Ok
3 Centralized Forwarding Card WS-F6700-CFC SAL1218PC9H 4.0 Ok

Hi,
For VPLS, the access facing line card (where the CE will be connected) can be any LAN cards. But the core facing line card where label imposition/disposition happens should be a WAN card like ES, ES+, SIP/OSM etc.
Since it is a setup between 2 devices, you can try EoMPLS (port based) with this setup. You can enable xconnect on the port connecting to CE router.

• How to Get a 6500 to Support VPLS?

I know the 6500 isn't suggested to be used for VPLS, that the 7600s are, but I have found forums stating that it is possible. I found, thus far, a SIP600 card, a SUP720B, or greater, could make the 6500 capable of supporting VPLS.
Please help by explaining/-providing what all is required in order to support VPLS on a 6509.
thanks, Kevin

HI Kevin,
VPLS is supported on 6500 only with SIP-400 or SIP-600.

• VPLS 6500 - 3750 ME ??

Hello all,
Is there someone that can answer me if the following is possible :
I´m rebuilding our network (metro ethernet) using 3 6500 (sup3 pfc3bxl) and 3750ME for redundancy.
I will do an L3 ring for the 6500:s and connect the ME:s to the neighboring 6500. What i would like to do
is multipoint EoMPLS (VPLS) so that i can get the same L2 in each of the pop:s. We have some service-
providers that require the same L2 in all
the network. I have tried to use vfi:s but they will not come up. Point to Point
works fine but the setup/redundancy becomes a mess. In a pefect world i would like to do hsrp for loopback int
and use that as tdp router id but that
does´nt work so i would welcome suggestions regarding redundancy.
This is what i´ve done:

• VPLS on Cat 6500

Can't find exact answer for the question.
Is VPLS supported by Catalyst 6500 series switches on any of SUP2/SUP32/SUP720 without OSM?
Thanks.

The answer is no. You need an OSM, SIP or ES card to run VPLS.

my problem is that when i configure VPLS according to CISCO-Documents, the VFI and L2 VCs comes up,
but i can't ping between end points located in Customer-Switches.
Is any problem with Hardware-Configuration, IOS or platform support ?
I have just studied the following link about this, but i'm not sure about that. (at least i can't believe that ! )

• VPLS support on 6500

....

Hi Irfan,
the answer is yes, with WS-X6708-10G-3C you've got PFC based MPLS:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/7600/ios/15S/configuration/guide/pfc3mpls.html
please note, that DFC3A does not support MPLS, but all other DFCs do.

• VPLS with IP in the vlan interface

I have this config in a Cat6500:
l2 vfi XXX manual
vpn id XXX
neighbor 1.1.1.1
interface vlan XXX
ip addrr 2.2.2.2
xconnect vfi XXX
With this config I can't reach from 6500 other equipments on this vlan with vpls.
It is ok to setup an ip address in a VLAN interface even if the interface have VPLS "xconnect" configuration?

Hi Guys,
I would like to put my idea only but i do't know if it is correct or not.
but if we defice any ip address on the interface than this will help us to improve anything but will appear in the routing table of PE router and it could be a part of it's routing and MPLS which is not required.
secondly we are trying to emulate layer2 briedge accross the VPLS backbone not the Layer 3 switch domain. than it could be possible that you configure routing accross the backbone but there is no such kind of mechanism to enable routing.
please rate if it helps.

• VPLS MPLS on Catalyst

Dear Cisco Team, Does the Catalyst series support MPLS, VPLS PE / P function. AFAIK only Cisco Router support MPLS, VPLS PE/P. what catalyst series support MPLS/VPLS? tq anyway

Cisco 6500 and 7600 but 7600 series is Leadership for such postion, 7600 with RSP720 comes with very large MAC (CAM)table to support Metro-ethernet.
Hope that help.

• VPLS Support

Hi there,
I've been searching the forums attempting to find a definitive answer to the following question:
Is VPLS supported in the 6500/7600 without the use of OSM modules?
The hardware I'm working with are two 6509 w/ Sup720-3BXL and PFC3BXL in each.

Hello,
the OSM is not needed any more for VPLS.
Have a look at "Configuring the Gigabit Ethernet SPAs" for the 7600
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps368/module_installation_and_configuration_guides_chapter09186a0080523f3c.html#wp1143937
and for the 6500

1-I am using Sup 2T in 6500 is there any problem coz i read that
( With a Supervisor Engine 2T, Layer 2 protocol tunneling is not supported with VPLS (CSCue45974). )
2-is there any problem extending PVLAN on the VPLS cloud .

• HP officejet 6500 drivers for windows phone

IHello,
I have officejet 6500 with ethernet card. I use with wireless. I have Nokia 1020, Win8.1 mobil phone. I want print text on my phone. I installed HP Aio Remote Beta program. Aio found my printer but it said that this printer isn't supported. How can I print my text using my mobil phone on the officejet 6500? Is there any driver for mobil phone or any different program? or is that an upgrade for Aio (it must include my printer's driver ofcourse)
Thanks...

Hi,
I afraid the printer is not compatible with Windows Phone.
Only the models listed within the "What printers support printing features for the HP AiO Remote app for Windows 8 Phones?" below can be used for printing from Windows 8 Phone devices:

• How do I correct a Windows Vista error for HP Officejet 6500 E709n wireless?

I continue to get a Windows Vista error when trying to install the printer software ...now it does print, but only the bottom half of a page..???

Dave, I would recommend completely uninstalling the printer from Programs and Features (after unplugging the USB cord if you are using one), and removing the printer from both Device Manager and Devices and Printer.
We are going to reinstall the printer from one of the downloads that HP makes available, but first I will have to know if your printer is the 6500A or the 6500. Also is your Win Vista machine running 64bit software or 32bit software?
If you can give me a complete product name and the information on your system, I will link you to the appropriate download.
Let me know!

• HP OfficeJet 6500 E709a: cannot scan from Windows 8.1; uninstall crashes at step 8 of 10

When I try to scan from Windows 8.1, launched from the HP Solution Center, it fails before giving me a preview, saying:
Scanning error
4,[(2,22,80040001),(3,22,0)]
When I run the HP Print and Scan Doctor and select "Fix Scan", it fails on the first check, saying it failed to find the driver. The text field that gets uploaded to HP includes the string "hpbxpsrender.dll: Not Found".
I tried uninstalling, using uninstall.bat in the "OJ_AIO_6500_E709_EntScruber_140" (HP OfficeJet Enterprise 14.0), which I downloaded from HP.com. It gets to step 8 of 10 ("removing unnecessary components..."); then it hangs and Windows 8.1 says "HP Installer Uninstaller has stopped working" and kills it.
I have tried running uninstaller in regular mode, in regular mode with my anti-virus / firewall (Kaspersky) paused (disabled), and in Safe Mode with Networking. Same result every time.
I have run the Installer without error. I can view the HP OJ status web page in my browser (http://192.168.1.5) from both computers.
I don't remember if scanning has ever worked on this computer. Scanning works on another computer (Windows XP). Both computers are wired (Ethernet) to the same network switch as the HP OJ.

Hi DonaldPayne,
Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I see you are not able to scan to your HP Officejet 6500 with your computer running the Windows 8.1 Operating system. You have tried to uninstall the software but get an error message. I see you have done ALOT of troubleshooting already, thank you for that, this allows me to see what has failed for you.
I would like you to continue here and complete the steps listed below:
1. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
2. Type %programfiles% in the run field and click OK.
3. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders.
4. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
5. Type %programfiles(x86)% in the run field, and click OK. This is for 64 bit systems only.
6. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders.
7. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
8. Type %appdata% in the run field, and click OK.
9. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders.
10. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
11. Type %programdata% in the run field.
12. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders.
13. Press the Windows key + R on the keyboard to bring up the run menu.
14. Type regedit in the run field.
15. Delete any HP/Hewlett Packard folders or keys that you find. (backup the reg file b4)
16. Run Disk cleanup from Administrative Tools
17. Now run the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows it was created to help Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users download and install the latest and most appropriate HP software solution for their HP Printer.
18. If you run into any problems after installing using the PIW, now we can re run the HP Print and Scan Doctor- It was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers.
I will watch for your reply, please make note of anything that you run into as well as what the PSDR finds.

• How do I print #12 envelopes with HP Officejet 6500 E709n Series printer?

When I try to print 4.75" x 11" (#12 envelopes) on my HP Officejet 6500 E709n Series printer, it gives an error msg. and will not print. Is there a work around for this, or do I have to use #10 size and make it do?
Win XP pro, MS word.

You could try creating 'paper' the size of the #12 envelope, and try that possibly.

Hello. I have a new HP OfficeJet 6500 (E709a) Its all in one. I am trying to use it through a network in my home.
It is already working for 1 computer, a wireless laptop BUT not for me, a ethernet wired desktop.
PC: Windows 7 64 bit
Laptop: Windos Vista (dont know if 32 or 64) Using the printer succesfully wireless.
Well the problem is when trying to scan the printer or computer won't detect each other BUT I can print from my pc to the printer.
I installed it through the PC Add a Printer because everytime I tried it with the program downloaded from HP it wouldnt detect, EVER my connected and already tested printer. I can access the printers webpage, the 0.0.0.0.0 something page. I even tried the advanced installing way, manually typing the address the printer has but it would still not work.
I installed everything by selecting I would wire my printer later but to continue the installation I must find a way for it to detect my pc or the otherway around.
