W3C/WCAG Accessibility

is there any extension available for Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 - W3C/WCAG2.0 Accessibility?

Similarly, the Web Developer  add-on for FF has Tools for validating W3C, WAI and Section 508.

  • WAG 2.0 AA Compliance (Accessibility)

    We're building several courses that need to be AA compliant. We've done a lot of research and testing on our own, but wondering if anyone has any tips for doing accessible work in Captivate. Especially around interactivity, drop down menus, and other things that add to the look, feel, and experience but might otherwise affect accessibility.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    The same operations that make an InDesign file Section 508 compliant would tend to satisfy the WCAG accessibility requirements. Text frames that flow from page to page. Use of paragraph and character styles to a complete degree. Alt-tagging all graphics. InDesign is very good at this sort of thing. Now, whether the user knows what to do or not do is another matter!

  • HTML Page skins and content layouts

    We're running Portal 10.1.4 and trying to use page skins and content layouts to override the portal-generated html to comply with our accessibility standards.
    Portal still inserts some of its html, even though I attach my own html templates to the region and page.
    For example: it surrounds each item in my regions with another HTML table, and throws in an iframe tag with some custom JS.
    Our templates do not use tables for layout, but the html code Portal inserts in between is breaking our pages.
    Any thoughts?

    That's what I was afraid of too. I just took some Oracle training on Portal, and when I asked our instructor about this particular issue, he kind of dodged the question.
    I'll look into the docs some more for the custom renderers.... but won't it do what HTML content layouts already do for you?
    I looked at the W3C WCAG, Oracle claims Portal is AA compliant (Priority Level 1 and 2)
    Priority 1:
    5.1 For data tables, identify row and column headers.
    5.2 For data tables that have two or more logical levels of row or column headers, use markup to associate data cells and header cells.
    I don't think Portal includes the row and column identifiers.
    Priority 2:
    Do not use tables for layout unless the table makes sense when linearized. Otherwise, if the table does not make sense, provide an alternative equivalent (which may be a linearized version).
    5.4 If a table is used for layout, do not use any structural markup for the purpose of visual formatting.
    I don't think the tables, when linearized, will make sense to Screen Readers, especially if the page design contains many regions. (ie nested tables) We've tried the JAWS screen reader in the past, and it red across table columns, not down. (problem when you have a 3-column layout, the reader reads the first text item in the first column, then jumps over to the first line of text in the middle content column and so on...)

  • Can InlineGraphicElement be marked non-final?

    I desperately want to add some custom properties to InlineGraphicElement but I'm crippled by the fact that it is marked as final.  Is there a good reason for the class to be final?  Final classes and private properties/methods makes it very hard to extend the TLF without branching the core code, which make it annoying to keep up to date with the core TLF.
    I get that the are potentially unexpected consequences if people extend some of these classes, but there are also valid and useful ways to extend them.  I would much prefer a non-final class, and notes in the comments saying that it is potentially dangerous to extend.

    In real HTML, the ALT and TITLE attributes are used on 'img' tags to meet W3C 508 Accessibility Standards.  One key behavior is that assitive technologies will announce the ALT description or TITLE to a disabled user.

  • Accessibility pages?

    How to make this??? Please?

    Hi MarxMenezes,
    Sorry, not sure I understand. If you are asking how to create an accessible PDF document, there are many resources available to you. Two good places to start are the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Techniques for PDF Accessibility, and the Adobe Acrobat X Professional: PDF Accessibility (Section 508 Tagging) Reference Guide, created by some of my colleagues in California public service.
    Hope this helps. If not, please follow up with specifics.

    I am to design a page that is truly accessible, it looks like I
    have a lot of work to do. Also I noticed the top line shows "HTML"
    instead of "XHTML" - should all pages now have XHTML in the top
    line of code? Would it be better to start this template from
    scratch or is better to edit? I am trying to design the correct way
    with css and accessibility, but I'm still learning a lot of the
    concepts. Many of the web pages I've designed now have deprecated
    tags. Any help or suggestions on this will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Marty

    On closer inspection, I notice that you are using a menu
    system that is
    entirely dependant on javascript. This, of course, is not
    accessible at all,
    so you're going ot have to rethink your menu system
    completely.
    Fly-out menus can have issues of accessibilty just in the
    nature of how they
    work, but that's somewhat debatable.
    What's not debatable is that a menu that REQUIRES javascript
    is likely to
    cause a lot of issues accessibility-wise.
    The most accessible fly-out menu system I've found is UDM4:
    http://www.udm4.com/
    It accomodates non-JS users, keyboard users, and a browser
    resizing to an
    extreme degree. Keep in mind that it's not a light script,
    though.
    Project VII offers a variety of fly-out menu options that are
    quite
    accessible:
    http://www.projectseven.com/
    Lots of options there.
    TwinHelix has a nice menu:
    http://www.twinhelix.com/dhtml/fsmenu/
    But keep in mind that the sub-menus are NOT accessible via
    the keyboard. So,
    if you use this option, you'll want to render the sub-section
    menu elsewhere
    on the page (which many argue is a good thing to do anyways
    from an
    IA/Usability POV).
    Now...a final thought...it appears you have about 130 or so
    meny options on
    there. I'd probably argue from an accessibility/usability
    standpoint, that's
    just way too much info to cram into the menu bar.
    Overwhelming a user is as
    much of a problem as not giving them enough options. I'd
    suggest making your
    home page more of a site directory. Put those submenus on the
    page itself.
    Then once people click into each section, just focus on that
    one particular
    menu. Ask yourself if site visitors would regularly need to
    jump from the
    Residential area, to the Visitor area in the same visitor
    session.

  • Issue while accessing deployed web-app on Weblogic 10.3.5

    We have deployed a web app on Weblogic server 10.3.5 as a WAR file. The deployment looks fine and application is in "Active" state. However when we try to access the application it fails to detect the Struts tags and gives following error -
    weblogic.servlet.jsp.CompilationException: Failed to compile JSP /view/login/login.jsp
    login.jsp:4:1: Type mismatch: cannot convert from Tag to JspTag
    *<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtm*

    *<title><s:property value="customerLoginContentVO.pageTitle" /> Dashboard</title>*
    ------^
    I looks like it doesn't get the Struts libraries. We have included the Struts libraries in WEB-INF/lib of the web app and set prefer-web-inf-classes to true in weblogic.xml. Why is it that it is able to find the jars to deploy but not to access the application.
    One alternate method suggested is to have package the war into a  ear and provide the mapping for struts libraries as prefer-application-packages in weblogic-application.xml. But we think creating a ear just for library load in not a right approach & we are definitely missing something.
    Any help on this issue will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    WLS 10.3.5 (and some versions before that too, one of the 10.3.x releases changed this) should also support prefer-application-packages. It doesn't appear as though the documentation has been updated to reflect that.
    Needs updating:

  • SP 2010 - Getting "An unexpected error has occurred. " message when accessing Sharepoint site after windows update - Windows 7 Home Premium

    Hi,
    I am new to SP 2010. I have installed Share point 2010 server (trial version) on my Windows 7 Home Premium Laptop by following the below link.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee554869%28office.14%29.aspx
    Everything went fine and was able to see the new sharepoint site after completing configuration wizard. SP2010 Central Admin also worked fine.
    However, after windows update, sharepoint site is not working. I was able to see the site working for more than a day before windows update. SP2010 Central Admin is still working. Executed "PSCONFIG" after
    update but still no good.
    I saw a warning "The Security Token Service is not available" in Central Admin and did some research to fix the issue but nothing worked.

  • Error while accessing JSP deployed on Oracle AS

    Hi,
    I have developed an application and deployed in on the oracle AS 10.1.2
    In my application i have a Jsp on which i have the following code
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

    <%@ page import="java.io.*"%>
    <%@ page import="java.util.*"%>
    <%@ page import="java.net.*"%>
    <% String strFileName = request.getParameter("prmFileName");
    //String strFileName = "d:\\Report.xls";
    response.setContentType( "application/vnd.ms-excel; charset=ISO-8859-1");
    PrintWriter out1 = response.getWriter();
    //System.out.println(strFileName);
    FileReader fread = new FileReader (strFileName);
    BufferedReader bfd = new BufferedReader(fread);
    String inputLine;
    while ((inputLine = bfd.readLine()) != null)
    out1.println (inputLine);
    bfd.close();
    out1.close();
    %>
    When i access this jsp through the application i get this error..
    during developement i had tested this jsp by deploying it on jboss and it worked properly but now i am faced with this error

    You don't need to get the output writer "out1". you can use "out" in your scriplets the same way as "request" and "response".

  • Client Program accessing J2EE entity Bean

    I have trouble find my Course J2EE bean from a client. (The client
    runs on the same computer but a different VM from the bean.)
    In Glassfish (Sun Application Server Nine), I set up a simple
    Container-Managed Entity Bean. I tried to access it from an external
    client as described in the glassfish EJB
    FAQ https://glassfish.dev.java.net/javaee5/ejb/EJB-FAQ.html
    Here is the client program:
    package RS;
    import java.io.*;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import javax.xml.parsers.*;
    import org.apache.xml.serialize.*;
    import org.w3c.dom.*;
    import org.xml.sax.*;
    import RS.CourseHome;
    import RS.CoursePK;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.naming.NamingException;
    import java.rmi.RemoteException;
    import javax.rmi.*;
    import java.util.Properties;
    import Debug.*;
    public class Client {
    public static void main (String arg[]) throws IOException {
    try {
    InitialContext jndiContext = new InitialContext ();
    Debug.P("jndic ongtext" + jndiContext);
    Object o = jndiContext.lookup("RS.CourseHome");
    Debug.P("looked up object "+o + "|"+o.getClass().getName());
    RS.CourseHome home =
        (RS.CourseHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(o,RS.CourseHome.class);
    Debug.P("got home "+home);
    Course C = home.create(1);
    C.setName("blah");
    CoursePK PK = new CoursePK();
    PK.number=1;
    C = home.findByPrimaryKey(PK);
    Debug.P(C.getName());
    catch (java.rmi.RemoteException re) {Debug.P("Remote Exception" + re.getMessage());}
    catch (javax.naming.NamingException ne){Debug.P("Naming Exception"+ne.getMessage());}
    catch (javax.ejb.CreateException ce){Debug.P("Create Exception"+ce.getMessage());}
    catch (javax.ejb.FinderException fe){Debug.P("Finder Exception"+fe.getMessage());}
    }Here is the error message:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException
    at com.sun.corba.ee.impl.javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject.narrow
                       (PortableRemoteObject.java:294)
      at javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject.narrow(PortableRemoteObject.java:137)
      at RS.Client.main(Client.java:26)The debugging indicates that I got the Initial Context
    and got the object but the PortableObject.narrow failed:
    jndic ongtextjavax.naming.InitialContext@1d85f79
    looked up object IOR: (huge number deleted)
    com.sun.corba.ee.impl.corba.CORBAObjectImplEarlier, I tried the version below, but based on the suggestion by Mr. Ebbert
    in the forum started "Error When running the Client Program" by sree_devi,
    I checked
    the following. I went to "Jndi Tree Browsing" from the Administrative Console
    and I found a "RS.CourseHome" entry under "ejb" I found RS.CourseHome there
    but did not see the "Course" tghat I expected to see
    Thus, I tried the version above:
    package RS;
       --- imports deleted for conciseness
    import Debug.*;
    public class Client {
    public static void main (String arg[]) throws IOException {
    try {
    InitialContext jndiContext = new InitialContext ();
    Object o = jndiContext.lookup("Course");
    CourseHome home =
        (CourseHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(o,CourseHome.class);
    Course C = home.create(1);
    C.setName("blah");
    CoursePK PK = new CoursePK();
    PK.number=1;
    C = home.findByPrimaryKey(PK);
    Debug.P(C.getName());
    catch (java.rmi.RemoteException re) {Debug.P("Remote Exception" + re.getMessage());}
    catch (javax.naming.NamingException ne){Debug.P("Naming Exception"+ne.getMessage());}
    catch (javax.ejb.CreateException ce){Debug.P("Create Exception"+ce.getMessage());}
    catch (javax.ejb.FinderException fe){Debug.P("Finder Exception"+fe.getMessage());}
    }When I run it, I get the following Naming Exception: Course not found
    I confirmed at the administrative console, that I have "Course" listed
    under Enterprise Applications:
    As per the ejb FAQ, I set up my $CLASSPATH so it starts as follows:
    /opt/j2ee/SUNWappserver/lib/appserv-rt.jar:
    /opt/j2ee/SUNWappserver/lib/javaee.jar:I also verifed in my domain.xml that the orb-listener-1, the default
    naming service port was at 3700.
    Here is the info on the Bean that I have running for both of the tries
    at my Client code.

    hi s-mcgowan,
    "some other processing" comprises of printing of debug lines and publishing to the message queue using JMS. I added more debug lines so that i could see whats really happening... here is the result
    myTableHome.create(...); <----------- no exception was thrown and it returned LocalMyTable object
    print out "Insert successful"
    print out "publishing message"
    ... publish message to message queue using JMS...
    print out "Publish done"
    ... after few milliseconds...
    java.sql.BatchUpdateException: Data exception -- row already exist in index PK_MYTABLE on table MYTABLE.
    From the exception it seems like its doing a batch insert. So that seems to explain why the java.sql.BatchUpdateException is thrown few milliseconds after my call to myTableHome.create(...);
    Is it possible to disable batch update / insert? how?
    thanks in advance,
    leigh

  • Restrict Access To Page Not Working with Different Auth Levels

    I have just started playing with the idea of using different auth levels to allow different users access to certain pages on my site.
    Within my SQL database I have a authlevel table consisting of 3 possible levels (guest, user, admin)
    I am using the Dreamweaver "Log in user" to log in users based on username, pass, and auth level and "Restrict access to page" set to allow user levels 'user' and 'admin'.
    The problem, however, occurs when trying to log in.  No matter what auth level I try I am redirected to my page where users should be redirected if they are not allowed to enter that page.
    I have included below my code from my login page and the page where all authorized users (user and admin) should be directed upon entering the restricted area.

    you don't need all that bloat.  set a session during login of some kind of uniquely identifying id.  i.e.
    $_SESSION['id'] = $row_rs['id'];
    then on the pages you need to protect, check it like this....
    <?php
    session_start();
    if (!(isset($_SESSION['id']) && $_SESSION['id'] != '')) {
    die(header("Location: http://www.notinprotectedareas.com")); }
    ?>
    you can use an include file i.e.
    <?php require_once('login_check.php'); ?>
    where file is name login_check.php to make your auth controls clean on your protected pages.

  • Visual Web JSF web app unable to render. The theme tries to access META-INF

    Hi,
    BACKGROUND: I have created a Netbeans 6 Visual Web Project using the default Visual Web JSF Theme. My web application can be viewed properly and correctly when i deploy it on tomcat 6.
    ARCHITECTURE: Our server configuration requires IIS to be our web server and tomcat to be our app server. Both are running on different machines. I have successfully linked up IIS 6 and tomcat 6 using the JK isapi_redirector.
    PROBLEM: However, when i connect to my app via IIS, my starting page opens but the input box components on that page are not displayed and i get several javascript errors that read - 'dojo is undefined' and 'webui is undefined'.
    PROBLEM DETAILS: I found that the page being served had a lot of files being requested from a META-INF folder. I have attached a snippet here.
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:wairole="http://www.w3.org/2005/01/wai-rdf/GUIRoleTaxonomy#" xmlns:waistate="http://www.w3.org/2005/07/aaa">
    <head>
    <title></title><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/BMC/theme/com/sun/webui/jsf/suntheme4_1_1/css/css_master-all.css" /><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/BMC/theme/com/sun/webui/jsf/suntheme4_1_1/css/ie.css" /><script type="text/javascript">var djConfig={"parseOnLoad":false,"isDebug":false}</script><script type="text/javascript" src="/BMC/theme/META-INF/json2_0/json.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="/BMC/theme/META-INF/prototype1_5/prototype.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="/BMC/theme/META-INF/com_sun_faces_ajax.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="/BMC/theme/META-INF/dojo1_0_1/dojo/dojo.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="/BMC/theme/META-INF/dojo1_0_1/dijit/dijit.js"></script><script type="text/javascript">dojo.registerModulePath("webui.suntheme", "/BMC/theme/com/sun/webui/jsf/suntheme4_1_1/javascript");</script><script type="text/javascript" src="/BMC/theme/com/sun/webui/jsf/suntheme4_1_1/javascript/webui-jsfx.js"></script><script type="text/javascript">webui.suntheme.bootstrap.init({"debug":false,"theme":{"locale":"en-US","prefix":"/BMC/theme","modulePath":"/com/sun/webui/jsf/suntheme4_1_1/javascript/theme","bundle":"suntheme","module":"webui.suntheme.theme"}});</script><link id="link1" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/BMC/resources/stylesheet.css" />I think the JK isapi_connector in IIS is preventing access to the META-INF path and the isapi_director log file says - "*+[emerg] HttpFilterProc::jk_isapi_plugin.c (1282): [BMC/theme/META-INF/json2_0/json.js] points to the web-inf or meta-inf directory. Somebody tries to hack into the site!!!+*". The same message is repeated for several more javascript files that are being served from under the META-INF path.
    Any help or advice in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!!

    I managed to find a workaround. Thought i should share it with those who are faced with a similar issue.
    I found that a bug report had been placed in the past with Apache Dev. However, they had said that they would not modify their logic because the servlet container spec requires it (even though isapi_redirector is only a connector and not a container). They said that there is no way for the isapi_redirector to differentiate between /foo/WEB-INF when foo is a context and when foo is just a sub-directory of the ROOT web application. So, the general consensus was to err on the side of safety and risk blocking a few requests that are valid.
    However, this causes a serious issue for those using NetBeans JSF Visual Web Projects. Hence, I created my own flavour of isapi_redirector by modifying the code such that this check is not performed and leaving the onus of checking on Tomcat.
    For those who are interested, the simplest way to go about this would be to force the function uri_is_web_inf (in jk_isapi_plugin.c ) to always return FALSE.

  • Error in accessing the atrribute in the svg element!

    Dear all,
    Hi, I have generated a svg file, and have already displayed it in a canvas, But when I try to access an attribute in the svg element, I got an error "org.w3c.dom.DOMException: error.unsupported.trait([0] xminOriLon, [1] null, [2] svg, [3] http://www.w3.org/2000/svg)". By the way, I am using the Netbean IDE 6.5.1, and I added this attribute when i generated this SVG file. From the error, I could guess that there are some specified(inbuilt) traits(attributes) in the svg element, Therefore, Users could not add their own atrribute? Is this right? I need your help, ANY suggestion is welcomed! Thanks in advance!
    Regards.

    When testing something it's often easiest to prototype things using the Outlook VBA project. For example, the following Outlook VBA code will format the body of an open appointment item as 16 point bold. I tested it on Outlook 2007 SP3:
    Sub FormatFont()
        Dim doc As Word.Document
        Dim f As Word.Font
        Set doc = Application.ActiveInspector.WordEditor
        Set f = doc.Range.Font
        f.Size = 16
        f.Bold = True
    End Sub

  • Access database query resultset in java scriptlet

    Question:
    1) I am Creating a web page and plotting points on the page:
    2) Database query results in decimal values dec_latitude and dec_longiitude.
    3) Perform calculations on lati. & long. in a java scriptlet to create a plot position (xpos, ypos).
    4) Send the xpos and ypos back to the java server page
    5) Use <IMG and absolute positioning to plot the point at position xpos, and ypos.
    6) Repeat until all rows in the query result set have been plotted.
    I don't know how to pass the dec_latitude and dec_longitude to the java scriptlet.
    After the java scriptlet calculation translates the latitude and longitude
    into xpos and ypos, I need to pass the xpos and ypos back to the java server page so that a data point is plotted on a map at position xpos, ypos.
    I tried many ways of doing it but am just guessing as
    to how to pass the data.
    Thanks in Advance. - John
    Here is what I am trying so far .... see snippet below:
    The code below results in a runtime error.
    Am I supposed to create a java object and access that in the java scriptlet? Can the java scriptlet access the latvar and longvar created during the "<c:set var="latvar"... ?
    If not, what mechanisum do I use to access the resulting colums: dec_latitude and dec_longitude? I need the java scriptlet to convert the
    dec_latitude and dec_longitude into a display position based on the number of pixels from the TOP and LEFT (xpos, ypos). Then plot of the data point using the IMG and (xpos, ypos). This will overlay a map whose z-index is lower than the plotted data point.

    xpos = 1082 - xpos;
    ypos = 700 + ypos;

    Thanks
    I still get a runtime error: I translated the code you gave to code below .... which I think is equivalent. See Below: I'm still learning about this stuff so I may not have not translated this properly. Do
    you see what I am doing wrong?
