W540 miniDP to HDMI

Hi all,
I'm facing hard time trying to connect my w540 to the toshiba smart tv via the miniDP port.
I ordered the original Lenovo miniDP-HDMI adapter, yet it seems that neither the TV nor the laptop recognizes each other.
Anybody got an idea?
Thanks!

You can't run discrete only on the W540, so the miniDP will be handled by the Intel card.
Even for an external display, the Intel HD graphics supports it on the W540???  I can understand possibly on the laptop screen, but you're saying that even for an externally miniDP-connected display the Intel graphics would be used on the W540??
Well then how does the K1100m ever get specified to be used?  Only for specific apps, either by default/firmware or by manually specifying in nVidia Control Panel 3D configuration (which in my experience experimenting with Optimus on the W530, it simply doesn't work... i.e. firmware decides, rather than nVidia Control panel forcing)??
I honestly can't imagine what engineer decided to alter the straightforward and practical approach to graphics via BIOS settings used on the W530, when they designed the W540.  They provided a super improved nVidia graphics hardware setup, and then apparently made it almost impossible for the user to utilize and configure... except through Optimus, which is app-based and demand-based.
Why shouldn't it also be optional to let the user disable the Intel graphics entirely, and run the W540 as if the nVidia graphics were the only hardware... same as with W530??  Or, at least use nVidia graphics for all externally connected displays even when Optimus is enabled, as with the W530 (where Optimus makes use of either Intel or nVidia only for the laptop screen).
I simply can't understand their thinking on handling external displays which it seems I'm almost 100% guaranteed to be plugged into A/C power (so that battery lifetime considerations are irrelevant) and where I would always want the best possible graphics engine working with.  I'm likely using a large, high-resolution external monitor.  Why wouldn't I want to also use the high-performance nVidia graphics hardware that I bought the W540 to get, to handle this external monitor???
Incomprehensible, what Lenovo's done here.  I assume this is also carried forward into the W541 and W550s models??  More reason than ever why I won't budge from my W530.

  • L430 miniDP to HDMI adapter (w audio)

Can you recommend a miniDP to HDMI F adapter that works with sound on L430? I recently got one from Startech through Amazon, but it does not stream audio to my TV.
I checked some reviews in Amazon, and it looks as if it supports only audio conversion from mini display port to HDMI1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00310EEO4/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1#productDetail...
I'm running Windows 7, and in the playback devices I have the laptop's speaker and three times "Digital Audio (HDMI)" devices that are always unplugged even with the cable connected to the TV.
Anything that ships to the EU should suffice.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You shouldn't have a problem with your current cable, it's practically the same as the others and capable of transferring sound.
Maybe you should check either the setup of the vga drivers (part of them is the HD sound driver for the display port) or the setup of your tv connection.
Unless of course the cable is faulty, it should do the trick...

  • X240 - is there audio pass-through when using a miniDP to HDMI?

I have an X240, which I love, but now that I've cut my cable cord and am going with Netflix and other on-line streaming options, I'd like to be able to view my streaming programs on my TV.  Can I use a cable or adapter to go from the miniDP (on the X240) to my HDMI (on my TV) and get audio as well as video?  I understand my laptop needs to have an "audio pass-through" for that to work --- I don't know what it is, but I'd like to know if this one's got it.  I bought the laptop online in Dec 2013, if that makes a difference.
(Yes, I could stream Netflix from a gadget like Chromecast, but that will only get me Netflix Canada, whereas using a VPN on my computer I can get Netflix from other countries too.)

refreshing this discussion!   I've tried a mini DP to HDMI dongle with an HDMI-HDMI cable to the TV - and I get video but no audio.  My computer recognizes the TV as present as as audio playback device, but no audio is transmitted through TV or computer. when it's plugged in.  Of course I still get audio from the computer's speakers when it's not plugged in

  • MiniDP to HDMI issues after upgrading to 10.6.5.

With 10.6.4, the only issue I was hoping to have fixed was adding the overscan slider adjustment that the mini has, but 10.6.5 completely broke my miniDP out. When plugging in the adapter, one of two things happens... either my tv doesn't recognize the output or it displays the desktop and then alternates between static and brief flashes of desktop. This is independent of resolution, overscan or mirror settings. Below is a video of this event. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am going to my apple store in the morning to see what they can help me with, and I'll let everyone know what I find out.

  • MiniDP to HDMI with audio for Imac bought in february

    Hi
I want to know if there is any way I can output videos using HDMI with audio with an Imac bought in februaary 2010? I saw the Moshi cable but apparently it does not support audio for early 2010 macs. Any suggestions or info on this? What could I do?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
as far as I know there seems to be two versions of that Moshi adapter.
An earlier one without audio and a later one with audio support.
But I don't know how to distinguish one form the other. Maybe the Moshi website can offer some hints.
Since Apple lists the later one in the document plus sells it in their own Store I assume they tested it with the various Mac mentioned in that document.

  • MiniDP to HDMI: Sound stopped working

    Hi everyone,
I have a Macbook Pro and a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable and the sound output just stopped working. I used it last night and it worked perfectly. Now it recognizes that it's connected to my TV, and the display is fine, but when I go to System Prefs > Sound > Output and choose the TV, nothing happens (the sounds stops on my laptop, but nothing comes out from the TV). I've tried it with two different TVs (and I've used it with both of them multiple times before), but nothing worked. I'm planning to try it out with a friend's Macbook Pro to see if there's any difference, but in the meantime, any ideas?

I have found a workaround. I seems like if I unplugg the headphone jack, which is normally connected to my stereo, I can select HDMI as sound output in system preferences. It really makes no sense, I hope they fix this in the next release.

  • Can one sleep main screen with miniDP to HDMI from 27"?

Is it possible to sleep or otherwise disable the main screen on the 27" iMac while outputting via DP or miniDVI to HDMI, if so, how? I have not been able to do similar with the 24", so I was hoping this was now possible.
    Thx.

As far as I know, this is only possible if you use an app such as Front Row to view multimedia, which should do it automatically, or if a particular app has it as a specific built in configuration.

  • MacBook late '08 + BenQ V2410 ECO via MiniDP to HDMI = SLOW Internet

    Hi
First of all, I'm really sorry for my bad English.
    My Problem:
Whenever I connect my MB to the monitor (BenQ V2410 ECO), the internet starts to slow down.
    It's a pain.
I tested it on my television and the internet didn't slow down.
    What should I do?
Is my MB or the monitor the problem?
    Thanks,
    Mihael

    Pls help me.

  • P2415Q - No display over DVI, HDMI. No menu. Worked perfectly for one month over display port

Reason Line: Dell P2415Q. After one month working perfectly over display port, no display on screen over Display Port or HDMI, no response to menu buttons, backlight and power LED on but no image on screen.
    Problem Description
The monitor worked out of the box for one month using the display port to mini display port cable provided with the monitor, which was plugged into my XFX 7970 and 7950 graphics cards. It supported 4K at 60Hz and was exceptional for photos, videos and games. On Wednesday the monitor stopped working, no image or menu is displayed on the monitor. I plugged in my old monitor to help diagnose via DVI from the same graphics card. When I press the power button on the Dell P2415Q monitor, the power LED lights up and the computer detects the monitor (as shown in the windows screen resolution menu). It sets it as a secondary display but the monitor remains black, I can see the power LED and backlight is on. No power saving mode popup appears on the monitor, when I press the menu buttons there is no response from the screen, it remains black. I repeated with a HDMI cable the same issue occurs with no response or image. I repeated and disabled crossfire (which allows the graphics cards to function independently) and tried the second graphics card with no response. I tested the HDMI cable I used on my old LG monitor, it works well. I have tried connecting a laptop over HDMI to the monitor too, with no response from the monitor. I have exhausted all the tests I can think of, I presume I will have to return the monitor for repair or replacement under warranty. A question to the dell rep and community - is there anything else I can try / do to get it working?

Computer: Non-Dell, self build about 2 years ago. Ivy Bridge i5, Gigabyte Sniper Motherboard, 16GB RAM, XFX 7970 GPU and XFGX 7950 GPU in crossfire, 256GB SSD, 860W Corsair AX power supply (860W on 12V rails). Windows 7, 64-bit. (Secondary Monitor LG D2342).
Operating System: Windows 7, 64 Bit.
Video Card: XFX 7970 and XFX 7950 in Crossfire (tested separately, monitor produces fault with both).
Video Card Driver: 14.12 AMD Catalyst Driver (rolled back to older driver, monitor still produces fault).
Video Card Output Ports: Tested with miniDP and HDMI on both cards, with crossfire enabled and disabled. Monitor still produces fault.
Video Card Cable: miniDP to DP cable provided with monitor. HDMI cable, tested with alternate monitor to confirm it functions correctly.
Monitor Menu Button: Non responsive, when power is turned on the computer successfully detects the Dell P2415Q monitor, the backlight turns on but no image appear on the screen. Pressing the menu buttons yields no result - menu does not appear on the screen. Power LED is on.
Monitor Purchase: Purchased from Overclockers.co.uk March 2015.

    * Turn the monitor off
    * Disconnect all cables from the monitor including the power cable
    * Press the monitor power button in for 15 seconds
    * Reconnect the monitor cables and re-test. If still no go, your only option is to get it exchanged per the purchased warranty

  • 13rMBP Mid2014 HDMI does not have 3840x2160 option?

Does the rMBP 13" Mid2014 HDMI connection allow 3840x2160 resolution?
Support article: HT6008 says it should for this model.
You can use 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs at the following resolutions and refresh rates via the built-in HDMI port.
    3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz refresh rate
4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz refresh rate (mirroring is not supported at this resolution)
I have it directly connected to my HDTV via HDMI cable and selected 24hz as I know it does not support 60hz.
    Only offers 1080p....
I tried a miniDP to HDMI adapter and that did not work and it used to. I think this adapter may not support 4k or be an active adapter.
Just ordered an active adapter that should work, but I am believe it should work through HDMI port on this unit based on HT6008 article.

I just found another thread that has my same exact issue.
Can't get 4k support with Seiki 39" TV through HDMI
Will follow that thread for resolution.

  • IMac 27" (Late 2009): getting audio to HDMI receiver via mini DisplayPort

I just got my first iMac 27" and I'm in the process of integrating it into my home theater system. Here is my setup:
iMac 27" connected to HDMI receiver (Yamaha RX-V1800) via mini DosplayPort, using miniDP-to-HDMI adapter + HDMI cable
Optoma HD20 video projector connected to HDMI receiver (HDMI out) via HDMI cable
I have Windows 7 installed via Bootcamp 3.2, so that I can take advantage of Windows Media Center. With the above setup, I am not getting audio or video signal to my receiver and video projector when I'm using Windows 7. However, when I am in OS X environment, I can get both video and audio signal to my receiver and video projector, and either mirror or extend my video diplay. When I do plug in my iMac straight into my video projector or LCD monitor with built-in speakers while in Windows 7, I get both audio and video output. So why doesn't it work -- and only under Windows 7 -- when the signal goes through the receiver?
My immediate thought was that it must be something about the receiver, but since the setup creates no problem under OS X I don't think it is. Could it perhaps be the Windows driver for mini DisplayPort, because it looks like iMac is not 'recognizing' my receiver and therefore not establishing connection? Is there a driver of fix available that takes care of this problem?
    Thanks!

I've tried a few times and it hasn't worked so far...
23" Cinema Display (ADC) connected to Apple's ADC to DVI adapter/power box then connected to Apple's DVI to mini Display Port adapter.
Trying to output extended desktop from iMac to 23" Cinema Display.
No signal or anything on the 2nd monitor so far.
USB port on Cinema Display works with the setup.
Checked system updates and all up to date as of 01-10-2010.
    OS X 10.6.2 build 10C2234

  • External display through MDP/HDMI not working

    Can anyone help me?
My Dynex external tv is reporting "No Signal" while connected HDMI via a moshi MiniDP to HDMI adapter. It was working perfectly until I reinstalled Windows 7 over the weekend. It worked for a little bit today, and has now returned to No Signal. The display works perfectly with Snow Leopard.
Can anyone help? I'm currently running NVIDIA Verde 275.33 drivers released today.

I spent a bunch of hours working on this, and I somewhat came to a conclusion: nvidia's drivers are at fault.
The display reported no signal while using the 275.33 drivers released yesterday, and with the 270.61 drivers released April 18th.
I rolled back to the drivers provided with this macbook, which were 197 or so, and it worked. Then I tried the 267.76 drivers released in March. Those drivers worked as well and they are what I currently run.
If anyone else with a 2010 MBP 13" (or other sizes) have this problem, try rolling back your drivers to 267.76 verde drivers provided by nvidia.

  • Audio over miniDP on L540 ?

    Hello,
    my customer bought 7 new L540 (20AV0031IX) Win8.1
I realized that the HDMI port is missing.
I want to buy an adapter for miniDP to HDMI conversion, but I'm wondering if the miniDP is able to carry sound.
Can any of you confirm that L540 can be connected to a HDTV with a miniDP-HDMI adapter with sound ?
    There is a special (Lenovo) cable-adapter ?
Can any of you suggest me a cable that has been tested and working fine ?
    Thanks a lot !!
    Best regards
    William

miniDP will carry sound. There is no special Lenovo cable, any miniDP to HDMI will do. These cables all follow the same standards, as long as they don't have physical defect then they all should all be fine.

  • How to connect with sony bravia.

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect my Mac pro with my Sony Bravia LCD TV. I bought a MiniDP to VGA cable and I already had a VGA extension to connect with my TV. I used to use that cable to connect my other laptop and worked ok with frequent "no synchronisation". Once I connected all, nothing happened. I restarted the PC but nothing happened. I tried to play around with all connection, but nothing happened. I do use windows XP in my mac pro as well and it didnt work their either although my other PC working fine with same VGA cable. I'm not very sure my MiniDP to VGA cable is working or not? Is there anyway I can check its working. Also, someone (sorry forgot the name) in the forum said, HDMI works better then VGA. What do I have to do to connect my PC through HDMI. Is there any direct cable to connect MiniDP and HDMI? Thanks for your help.

The best way to test if the VGA adapter is bad or not is to try it with another display, preferably a computer monitor instead of a TV. If it doesn't work with a monitor, then that's stronger evidence the adapter is bad.
There are MiniDP to HDMI adapters. Here's an example of one. I believe this company will ship internationally. You might be able to find UK sources for similar adapters.

  • Macbook to Hdtv scaling problems

    Hi there!
I have a macbook 2008 alumiinium 2.4ghz model. I am trying to connect it to my HDTV. I bought a miniDP to HDMI and connected to my tv and it works great. The picture fits the tv perfectly, however even though it fits the screen I was wanting to use the bigger screen to work on Logic Pro as a 13in screen is a bit of a pain at times. The problem is that so far my macbook screen it being stretched to fit the 42in tv screen so I don't actually get any extra space as my screen just looks bigger!
Any suggestions on setting to fix this? I have an LG television if that helps. I cant for the life of my figure how to get it to work. The picture on my tv is really sharp and great but its just scaling up everything on my mac when what I really want is to be able to use that extra screen real estate for my logic pro projects!!!
    Cheers in advance!
    Tom

There is a chance that your MDP to HDMI adapter is not working properly with audio. I had that problem with one that I had bought. I tried a newer one and the sound came through with no problems.
The only thing I would suggest (before buying a new adapter) is, try a different HDMI cable... if you have one. That way you can rule out that as being the problem.
