WAAS Branch Design Assistance

Hi,
I have a drawing attached of the branch office current setup.
Issue:  At my data center i have a WAE setup using the Aggregation Layer design model using WCCP.  WCCP statements are on the specific VLANS and on the inside interface of my WAN router.
At the branch, I have ACL which specifies permits for the user subnet at the brach and the vlan subnets at the data center in both directions.  One ACL specifying subnets in both directions.  I have this ACL assigned to WCCP 61 and 62 service.  When i place the WCCP statements on the interfaces shown, basically it cannot access the subnets specified in the ACL.
I see traffic being redirected, but it is a black hole it seems. The 4506 I have at the office does not support WCCP.
When i look at documentation on this, I get different answers it seems. Some assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Chuck

Thanks for the reply!  The address is a loopback, so it is a /32.  It is also the Router ID for WCCP. I do not have the wccp statements on the interfaces at the moment because of the issue I stated earlier.

    Hello -
    We have to redesign our WCCP setup at the branch office, because WAAS VB doesn't support standby. Our current design is having 2 WAN routers, one is for the primary WAN (MPLS) and the 2nd is for a GRE backup. Both WAEs GIG 1/0 interfaces are plugged directly into a 4ESW-HWIC module on an ISR router on the primary one, GIG 2/0 interfaces are plugged directly in another 4ESW-HIC module on the backup GRE router. The 4ESW-HWIC doesn't support port-channel so this is my reasoning for the redesign. See attached WAAS_Branch_Current_Design PIC.
    The WCCP 61/62 options are currently configured on the LAN facing interface on the routers, 61 out and 62 redirect in for load balancing based on destination IP address. The new design is moving the WAE to the CORE layer and configuring port-channel since we’re going to be using VB at the branches. The WCCP will still be done at the WAN router edge. I was told it’s best to use the WCCP option inbound only, rather than an outbound redirection.
    Based on the attached WAAS Branch Redesign PIC, would there be any WCCP routing loops with respect to where I have placed the 61 and 62 options? Some branches will have remote sale centers hanging off of either the WAN primary router or the GRE backup router, but not have WAAS. It’s most likely traffic could be seen twice on a 61 redirect in. One of the designs I’ve seen in a PDF doc from Networkers (BRKAPP-2021) showing the 61 and 62 are on the WAN facing interfaces to avoid WCCP routing loops with a dual router scenario at a branch site. The number of uses will vary from 50 to 400+. I want to keep the design the same for every branch.

    Thank you for your response. The reason for the redesign is to support virtual blades. I don't want to send the VB traffic all the way up to the WAN routers. The VLAN 738 on the new design will live on the core switch and WCCP will be performed on the WAN routers. So yes, I will be using WCCP negotiate returnmethod. The only concern I have is you will be bouncing the traffic in an out of the LAN facing interface on your WAN router. Basically you will be sending all of your original traffic andoptimized traffic out the same LAN interface, possibly doubling your volume on this link if you don't get good compression.

  • Configuration error in PID synthesis step of control design assistant

    Hello,
            I am exploring an evaluation version of NI LabVIEW Control Design Assistant 2011. For  getting started with it ; I am using getting started tutorial provided in the labview signal express help. Upto the step of frequency domain analysis it is working fine ; but when I insert step called PID Synthesis it is showing me an error like...Configuration error -Sampling Time number is not the same...Though I have followed all the steps mentioned in the document sequentially why am I getting this error?..Please educate me in this regard.
    Best Regards.

    I am having the same issue trying to install EM Grid Control 10.1.0.2 on a 9.2.0.5 Repository on HP-UX platform. I am wondering if you have found a solution?

  • WAAS network design

    Hi all,
    In enterprise network there are these WAAS devices: several SRE-SM-700-K9 modules (each installed in separate branch border routers) and WAE-674 appliance located at head office. At the head office border router there is no WAE module installed (there is only WAE-674 appliance at head office). Branch sites are connected to Head Office via IPsec tunnels. How all of these devices must come together to optimize traffic flows from branch offices to central servers? Which device mode to select on WAE-674 appliance - application-accelerator or central manager? If application-accelerator mode is selected, where to place WAE-674 appliance assuming that Head Office border router has one inside and one outside interface?

    Hi Stan,
    I guess it comes from the fact that if we save the configuration of a device, it is to restore it at a later time.
    If we saved the IP address of the interface in the output, it would create problems once you would try to restore it as you can see:
    NME-WAE-2(config)#interface GigabitEthernet 1/0 NME-WAE-2(config-if)#ip address 2.2.2.2 255.255.255.0 Specified interface is configured from router.NME-WAE-2(config)#
    I agree it is debatable on whether or not this info should be included in the running config and you can see it as a bug, I see it as an implementation choice

  • WAAS-Branch applications not being 'optimised'.

    There is TCP based banking application that is  running on port 7777(runs on an Oracle dataabase).The application is run from their servers at Head office and all branches are accessing the application.
    We have defined a custom policy on the Central Manager for applications accessing this port-Full optimization(TFO,DRE & LZ).
    When the application is launched on a user PC and the output taken from the central manager,full optimization is taking place with compression  levels of over 70%.The problem is the branch  users accessing the application at the branch dont  feel the benefit of WAAS-in any case it takes the same time to load the same application
    The link is a 128kbps leased line-with an avarage RTT of 70ms.We are using inline method of interception.
    Optimization for SQL(Oracle) is over 2 times on the central manager.
    Any suggestions of what needs to be done to improve this?so we can have a feel of an optimised WAN.

  • Large branch design - comment plz..

    Hello!
    Just moved my topic here from "WAN R&S"
    So...
    Building №1 - 60 user ports + 10 server ports, Building №2 - 110 user ports. + 10 server ports.
    Servers are used locally (no access from WAN needed for now, but soon it may be).
    All ports should be 1Gbit/s.
    I think abt. this design:
    Access layer: ws-c3560-48TS-E and ws-c3560-24TS-E (2x 48 + 24 port 3560 switches) with glc-sx-mm transivers installed. 2 optical links from each 3560 form etherchannel uplink to 3750 at distrib.layer. Servers in each building are connected to access switches also.
    Distrib.layer: two ws-c3750G-24TS-E1U in stack. It takes 6 optical links (3 etherchannel uplinks) from building№2 and 4 Gigabit links (2 etherchannel uplinks) from locally (in building№1) placed access switches (48 + 24 port 3560).
    Edge layer: ISR cisco3825-NOVPN (IP Base software) connected to 3750 stack with 2 gigabit ports (that form 1 etherchannel uplink).
    Between buildings I want to put 24-strand 62,5 MMF outdoor cable (abt 50 meters) over the air (from roof to roof). 12 strands will be used by SFP's.
    Please, comment and critisize this design. Also, question is : what is the difference between IP Base and IP Services (for 3560 and 3750 switches) ?
    tnx.

    ?tnx.
    Hi,
    Design seems to be simple and flat network design just check out the capabilties of servers how much data and what type of data will be send by servers to check the performance of 3560 switches, but with my experience in our data centers also 3560 G series works well at access layer with high end servers.
    My only concern is outdoor connectivity between bulidings over the roof,if buliding distance is not that much distance whay dont you lay the fiber in proper fashion to avoid any disruption to these fibers.
    And for for you question difference between ip base and ip services ios is
    The IP Base feature set includes advanced quality of service (QoS), rate limiting, access control lists (ACLs), and basic static and Routing Information Protocol (RIP) functions. Dynamic IP routing protocols (Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), BGPv4, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)) are available only on the IP services image.
    The IP Services image provides a richer set of enterprise-class features, which includes advanced hardware-based IP unicast and IP Multicast routing. Support for IPv6 Layer 3 switching in hardware is also available with the addition of the Advanced IP Services license to either the IP Base or the IP Services images. Both the IP base Image and the IP services image allow for Layer 3 and Layer 4 lookups for QoS and security.
    Hope to help

  • Program design assistance.... Component moving

    OK, I really need some assistance... I'm trying to build a organisation system for a 6hr system whereby I have several different people each who get meetings scheduled at 30minute intervals. The way I want to display the data is as a scrollpane, with a people column and a timelined section then a sequence of panels or buttons which can be moved around to alter the scheduling.
    People 9am.................10am................11am....... etc
    |_______| |_____||_____||_____||_____||_____||_____|
    |_name_ | |__a__||__b__||__c__||__d__||__e__||_____|
    |_______| |_____||_____||_____||_____||_____||_____|
    |_______| |_____||_____||_____||_____||_____||_____|
    the functionality I am seeking is to be able to drag an appointment (eg panel/button 'e') to a different slot (eg b) which would then shuffle b to c, c to d etc. I'd also like to be able to move an appointment to a different person which would then shuffle all following appointments left to fill the gap, and push the appointments on the new person's list to the right to allow the new appointment to be placed (pushing an appointment off the end of the schedule).I have used swing in the past but am at a loss as to how I should allow these panels to be moved and record the fact that they have.
    If anyone has any ideas as to part or all of this matter, it would be greatly appreciated as I really need the support. I can be emailed at [email protected] should more information be required.
    Many thanks

    You should consult the DnD and Swing Transfer documentation bundled with the J2SE 1.4 documentation. Here is some very, very skeletal code of how to handle the "drop" part of what you're doing.
         private DropTargetListener dtl = new DropTargetAdapter(){
              public void drop(DropTargetDropEvent dtde) {
                   try {
                        int r = tbl.rowAtPoint(dtde.getLocation());
                        int c = tbl.columnAtPoint(dtde.getLocation());
                        Object obj =
                             dtde.getTransferable().getTransferData(DataFlavor.stringFlavor);
                        table.setValueAt(obj, r, c);
                        dtde.dropComplete(true);
                   catch(Exception ex){
                        dtde.dropComplete(false);
            // later
           tbl.setDropTarget(new DropTarget(tbl, dtl));tbl is an instance of JTable and table an instance of TableModel.
    This shows how to deal with mouse events inside a table and how
    to address one half of the dnd functionality.
    Hope that helps a little,
    Fritz

  • Design Assistance Needed

    OK Guys
    I am trying to make a Logo of my daughter's softball team to be 3 dimensional and able to spin for embedding on Her Teams Website.
    I downloaded Photoshop 4 after seeing some info on the web about how "easy" it was to do.
    I have been trying for about a week now, and have come to the realization that I totally suck at it.  Would anyone be interested in helping me out?  I can e-mail the logo I am looking to have worked on.
    Attatched is the Logo
    Thanks for your consideration!
    Ron

    Do you really mean Photoshop 4 – that's ancient. Even Photoshop Elements 4 is pretty old.
    Can you give a link to the web site which says it is pretty easy to do?
    It isn't that hard to do but can't all be done in Photoshop.
    And spinning logos are so yesterday.

  • WAAS - WAFS not working

    Hi
    I have a problem regarding the WAFS optimization.
    I installed 2 new WAE's with version 4.1.1a and Enterprise License
    In the policies definition, the WAFS/CIFS policy is enabled and present in the core and branch policies.
    and in the Graphs and charts, the WAFS is being present in the TOP 10 applications...
    But when i tried to do a test by accessing a PC in the other branch by using \\(ip of the Pc), the test did work when copying the file twice.
    When i did the Diagnostics Tests on both WAEs (branch and HO), i get in both cases the following:
    WAFS configuration and operation NONE
    NONE - Skipping test because Wafs is not enabled
    From previous experience, i know that the WAFS is enabled by default on the 4.1 version.
    Can anyone help please?
    Best regards,

    Hi,
    In 4.1.x releases you don't need to configure the Core / Edge for CIFS anymore (unless you have WAEs running older version and hence want to keep that legacy config). Since you mentioned that you installed two new WAEs and doing the tests between them you really don't the core/edge config.
    If you have a Central Manager then after login go to
    'Manage Devices->choose the WAE(1)' and then on the left drawer / pane click 'Accleration->Enabled Features'
    After clicking 'enabled features' the page will load with enabled features for this particular device (on the right side of the screen). Ensure ' CIFS Accelerator' is checked.
    Repeat this exercise for the second WAE as well.
    Another way to find out is, telnet or console into the WAEs and then run 'show accelerator'. You want to ensure
    CIFS is licensed, config state is 'Enabled' and Operational Status is 'Running' on both WAEs.
    With 4.1.x by default CIFS AO (application optimization) is enabled by default. So, all you need is license. Since you have enabled the license it should work.
    Good luck!
    -Nat

    I would like to request some design assistance/recommendations. We are using Oracle 9i (soon to go to 10g) with both a Delphi Client/Server front end and a VS .Net Web Application. Here is the scenario:
    We have a contracts application used by the Air Force and they need to add much more detailed funding data about the contracts. Basically a contract can be funded by one or more funds types (imagine different checking accounts). These funds types can be broken out in a hierarchical manner. Here is an example:
    Parent Fund
       Child Fund1
          Child Fund 2
             Child Fund 3

             Base GHIUsing the information above, Contract XYZ can receive Technical Assistance funding from the AFCEE/AF BRAC Overhead funding pool and also from the AFCEE/AF Restore Act funding pool.
    When the Project Manager enters the data, initially they may only know they are getting AFCEE funds and later on find out exactly what kind it is. Also Sr. Management is going to want reports that aggregate the dollars by fund type and as you can see in the example above, there are 3 AF BRAC Project funds types each with a different parent. I am going to meet to get a few more details on the Sr. Management report requirements. By the way, there are just under 3000 fund type combinations currently identified but it could easily go over 5000.
    I am considering two possible table designs for the lookup table to store this information.
    DESIGN 1
    Fund_Type_Seq          NUMBER          PK
    Fund_Type_Code          VARCHAR2(25)     Not Null
    Parent_Fund_Type_Code     VARCHAR2(25)     Null
    Fund_Type_Desc          VARCHAR2(500)     Null
    DESIGN 2
    Fund_Type_Seq          NUMBER          PK
    Fund_Type_Root          VARCHAR2(25)     Not Null
    Fund_Type_Child1     VARCHAR2(25)     Null
    Fund_Type_Child2     VARCHAR2(25)     Null
    Fund_Type_Child3     VARCHAR2(25)     Null
    DATA TABLE DESIGN (Design of table holding Fund Type data for a contract)
    Contract_Seq          NUMBER          PK
    Fund_Type_Seq          NUMBER          PK
    Funded_Dollars          NUMBER(12,2)     Null
    And a couple other columns always in data tables in our system.The reason for the DESIGN 2 is that from a UI perspective, just showing “AF BRAC Project” 3 times without showing its lineage (so to speak) will not be useful to the PM and I am not sure of how to display a fund types entire lineage using design 1 (Possibly using a tree view and using the Connect By Prior / Start With SQL command structure).
    So…Any suggestions, recommendations (and telling them that they are insane, while tempting, is unfortunately, not an option).
    Thanks
    Richard Anderson

    Thanks, I was leaning towards the first Design. What I was wondering about was exactly how to query the data. Basically we will have a Contract Table, the Contract_Funding table (a child to contract) and the VVL_Fund_Type table (the Design 1 table). The user will want to pick one or more fund_types as filters to the report. Here is one select statement I came up with (haven't tested it as there are no funding tables). Am I on the right track?
    Select c.contract_number,
           c.contract_obligated_amount,
           c.contract_obligated_date,
           ft.Fund_Type_Code,
           cft.funded_dollars
    from contract c,
         VVL_Fund_Type ft,
         Contract_Funding cft
    where c.contract_seq = cft.contract_seq
      and cft.funding_seq = ft.funding_seq
      and ft.fund_type_code in (SELECT fund_type
          FROM VVL_Fund_Type
          start with fund_type in (select vft.fund_type_code
                from vvl_fund_type vft
                where vft.Parent_Fund_Type_Code = 'AF O&M'
                connect by Parent_Fund_Type_Code = prior Fund_Type_Code)
                OR
                Fund_Type_Code = 'AF O&M')The 'AF O&M' may actually be a whole set of fund types in which case I would have to use an " in ('xyz, 'abc', etc) clause. The real problem will be if they view the AF O&M code associated with the 11WG as different from the AF O&M code associated with ACC. If that is the case (and I am meeting tomorrow to find out), I haven't a clue as to how to write the query other than maybe using a fund_type_seq in (123, 8378, 2828, 2987) clause.
    Thanks Richard Anderson

  • Template(best practice) for Switch ports

    Hi,
    Looking for best practice advice on switchport config for client facing ports.
    We recently had an incident where an access port turned into a trunk(trunk mode desirable), which we obviously do not want to happen again!
    For Access Ports(First two should stop DTP I'm hoping?):
    switchport mode access
    switchport nonegotiate
    storm-control broadcast level 20.00
    storm-control action trap
    no cdp enable
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpdufilter enable
    spanning-tree guard root
    switchport port-security maximum 10
    switchport port-security
    switchport port-security aging time 10
    And for trunk ports to clients:
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk allowed vlan xxx,xxx
    switchport nonegotiate
    storm-control broadcast level 20.00
    storm-control action trap
    no cdp enable
    spanning-tree bpdufilter enable
    spanning-tree guard root
    Thanks in advance.

    For those that want a fast answer:
    For VoIP phones and PC:
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/6 - interface GigabitEthernet1/0/23
    description phone with PC connected to phone
    switchport access vlan 102
    switchport mode access
    switchport voice vlan 101
    switchport port-security maximum 2
    switchport port-security
    switchport port-security aging time 2
    switchport port-security violation restrict
    switchport port-security aging type inactivity
    ip arp inspection limit rate 100
    load-interval 30
    srr-queue bandwidth share 1 70 25 5
    srr-queue bandwidth shape 3 0 0 0
    priority-queue out
    mls qos trust device cisco-phone
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
    ip verify source
    ip dhcp snooping limit rate 100
    For data only:
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/24- interface GigabitEthernet1/0/28
    description DATA only ports
    switchport access vlan 102
    switchport mode access
    switchport port-security maximum 3
    switchport port-security
    switchport port-security aging time 2
    switchport port-security violation restrict
    switchport port-security aging type inactivity
    ip arp inspection limit rate 100
    load-interval 30
    srr-queue bandwidth share 1 70 25 5
    srr-queue bandwidth shape 3 0 0 0
    priority-queue out
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
    ip verify source
    ip dhcp snooping limit rate 100
    That's Cisco's recommendation.
    And just my opinion is that I'd much rather shut a port down that receives a BPDU than just filter it. Reason being that you can't trust users not to do something stupid, like hook two switch ports to the same switch they're using at their desk in an effort to "make the network faster". For two, if someone malicious plugs in a switch into your environment, shut the port down. . .that makes it hard for them to do anything malicious.

  • Carrying data between two webdynpro programs.

    Dear Experts,
    Consider the scenario and please give the solution.
    I waant to design a re-imbersment form, in ESS, where a employee submits a claim form, after which a workflow is triggerred in RFC givin mail to the approver. Then the approver logs in with his id in the ESS. He gets the same screen but without some buttons and  with some buttons to approve the request.
    My question is how to trigger this eventing. How to pass data between these two webdynpro programs written for employee and the approver, and howw to trigger the event as whent the employee submits the form only after that the screen is visible to the approver.

    Hi Vineet,
    Here is what I will do for this problem:
    1) There will be only one application for employee and approver. Based on the role, we can hide/show the relevant buttons to both of them.
    2) I am not sure if you are using CAF Layer. If you are using you can use the Local Persistancy feature to store the data temporarily there and only after approval the data gets posted into SAP.
    However, if you are not using the CAF Layer, I suppose you will have to create some temporary tables to store the data once the employee submits the application. This should also generate some unique request ID.
    3) Once the employee submits the application, you need to configure to send the alert to the approver via mail or in SAP UWL. The mail and UWL should contain link to the same application with the some unique request ID. When you read the tables second time with the request ID and the role approver you should show the user approval buttons.
    Thats what I can think of at a very high level.

    Shubham
