WAN network simulation

I need to simulate WAN network and identify congested nodes on packet tracer or GNS3. I need a tutorial, please!

In VS2010, VS2012 and VS2013, network simulation feature in visual studio load test supports to simulate network latency with network types such as CDMA, 3G and WAN.

Network Simulation Software

I hope that someone in this forum might be able to shed some light on this...
I looking for network simulation software in order to prepare for CCNA and CCDA exams. I know that Boson makes similar software for the PC, but I have not been able to find anything for my Mac.

I searched long and hard for the same thing about six months ago, and gave up once the Intel Macs came out. I ended up purchasing RouterSim as I could run it through Parallels on our Intel Macs. Sorry to say, but you're probably outa luck

Looking at their website leads me to believe they are a Windows-only developer. When you search for Mac OS X there are no results. OTher references to MAC are in the context of MAC = Media Access Control. All screenshots are from Windows. Not looking good for you being able to use on a Mac OS X computer. Still will be interesting to hear when they respond to your queries.

JNS - Java Network Simulator

Hi all I am working on my final year Project " Designing Security Protocole for sensor network" I have designed an algorithm which identify and detect a compromised node in the sensor network.. to test my algorithm and develope I searched a simulator called JNS I have down loaded it on my machine and trying to figure out to make it work or do a default test on it... can any1 help me this please!!!!!!! I would be warmly welcome your ideas and help I am very thankful in advance....

Cisco Network Simulator - customization

Hello. I want to buy Cisco Network Simulator for use in studying for CCNA 200-120. I noticed it included very interesting labs who could help me . But, can this simulator be customized ? For example, to create my network , as in Cisco Packet Tracer ?

You can revert but you might find that some of your files could no longer be readable in Mountain Lion like your iPhoto Libraries. If you opened iPhoto and the library was upgraded it can no longer be read with the version of iPhoto that runs in Mountain Lion. Same for Apple Mail and some other applications.
You would need to go back in time to before you upgraded to bring back your data. See this guide for help:

I just purchased the CCNA network simulator but I can't log in when I run the program. It's the CCNA 640-802 Network Simulator software 2nd edition. I have a cisco press login and password which specifically says you need (see screenshot attached for error). I've tried contacting support but i get no response. I have turned off windows firewall and disabled my antivirus. Any suggestions?

I think the above error clearly says there is problem with internet connection while connecting with the pearson site while loading the software. check the internet connection while installing the software.

Google GNS3 or GNS3 getting started you will get a lot of stuff on how to set it up and use.

Bluetooth network simulator

I have installed Mobility Pack on NetBeans and I want to do bluetooth programming. How can I do the bluetooth network simulation. With Impronto Simulator (www.rococosoft.com) you can see two mobile phones communicate with each other. Unfortunaltety Impronto is not free. Is there a simulator like that in NetBeans, or does anybody know how to deal with this?

Network Simulation problem !

Can anyone explain HOW and WHY the devices on the image ( PC,Routers,Hubs and Servers) are connected with each other in that way and with those kind of cables ? I have an assignment to similarly connect three cities with the simulator but at first I must understand this given example network . I'll appreciate anyone who can help me and explain this network in detail ( especially the cables that are used to connect the devices ) . I apologise if I made any grammatical or vocabulary errors . I'm waiting for any helpful replies :)

The answer is there in the picture!
Red cable between the 2 routers is WAN serial
Black cable making an Ethernet connection from routers to hubs and then hubs to PC's and server's.
Dashed blue cable console connection to configure the routers from PC's.
If you are connecting three cities you would need some kind of WAN connection. Using serial is older technology now. Most modern WAN solutions would be presented as Ethernet but I guess it depends what services are available in your country! This would connect to a router.
The LAN side would normally always be Ethernet so a hub/switch onsite to connect up PC's and server's.

Doubts regarding WAN Network sizing formula parameters

We have used the following SAP document - Front end requirements for SAP Business solutions
We have some doubts regarding the formula. Sometime we have the feeling it does not address very well issues as user's concurrency, WAN Optimization and contingency. However, it might be only that we are not using correctly the formula, so we would like to confirm some information regarding the parameters.
C = X * N * D * 0.25
The parameters are as follows:
C: Bandwidth in kbps that is needed for the SAP GUI
X: Amount of data per dialog step in kilo bytes
N: Number of active users (independent of the number of sessions)
D: Average number of dialog steps per minute per user7
Numerical factor: ~0.25 = 8 (kb/kilo bytes ) * 1.25 (protocol overhead) * 1/60 (min/s) * safety factor
1.58 (response time, peak load, different technologies)
The number of active user is the average number of concurrent users (from the total number of users) which are using the network? Therefore, we should calculate first the concurrent users number?
Does any body knows what is the reasoning behind the Numerical Factor and the safety factor? It is a contingency factor? It is related with a network bandwidth contingency?
Has anyone apply WAN Optimization?
Has anyone apply any additional contingency measure additional to the safety factor?

Hi Gonzalo,
As you said, the number of active users is the mean number of concurrent users, since idle users don't normally need bandwidth.
I think that safety factor is an estimated number provided by SAP engineers to increase the final amount, just in case you have different issues that could lead to a lower network transmission rate. As it's a general estimation, please take into account that the particular issues of your network can have some influence in the speed calculation.
Please take into account that maybe you want to switch the option "slow network connection" in SAPGUI, just to decrease the ammount of traffic between frontends and server.

I need a good software package that emulate an entire network, i need simulation for routers, switch and firewalls, i need to be able to simulate VPN connection. Wish is the best sofwares available to do this ?

pkampana, thank you for the feed back I will look at both of these. I have seen a lot of good ref. to the GNS3 and that it is Freeware which is nice as I am paying for my own education on this stuff.

i need to test my protoype j2me midlet over 3g network conditions,but dont have the hardware. is there such a 3g nework simulator around? i heard of something called OMNeT++ but i dont think this is what i need,

Everybody knows what is PC and what is simulator and who runs whom! You are not adding any more sugar to the coffee. May be I misunderstood his first post that's why I was trying to get the original picture. But if you identified after his first post that what exactly he was looking for then why did you come after the 9th post? That's why my post 3 was like that.
Now let me tell you one thing may sound little bitter but I should say that try to stick to the topic. If you really have something in your knowledge to help him then try to help him. Pulling my legs you are not at all going to achieve anything :-> but if you can show him some lights then for sure it will be valuable for him and you can achieve those DUKES !!!
And one more thing I want to add that post 10 is not also very meaningful.

WAN Networking question

I have a flat network. three oracle names servers, a dozen database servers, and a thousand or so clients.
I use dedicated server processes for each client connection.
I now have a WAN connection that will bring some additional users from a remote site. The network admins are requiring a dedicated port that the clients will use for database connections. These remote users will only be accessing 3 databases on one of my servers.
My listener is on port 1521 and is fine. However I need to create MTS connections with a dispatcher on a dedicated port handling multiple server processes for the remote clients.
I want to do this without disrupting my local users. keeping them dedicated servers...
Any suggestions on how best to do this??

Hi,
If I understood your point right, you want your local users to keep using dedicated servers, and remote ones to use shared servers.
In order to do so, just setup 2 different aliases for your databases, or use 1 defined in 2 different ways:
1 with "default connect method" => remote users
1 with "dedicated server" => local users
If your local users are using ONames as their alias translation service, just modify your ONames entries to set the "dedicated" option, modify the database to configure MTS, modify TNSNAMES/ONames for the remote users to use default connect method.
