Want to get a factory unlock for my 2G iPhone

Hi all I have a first gen iPhone that is just sitting around ( my 3G replaced it ) and I noted that overseas iphones are factory unlocked as well as I have read that there are some here that have bought the phone out right and get At&t or Apple unlock the phone . Does anyone know about this or were I could take it to be factory unlocked ?

No AT&T does not offer unlocking.
All U.S. Iphones are carrier locked to AT&T and cannot be legitimately unlocked.

If you have an iPhone 4 with a SIM slot, it will not work on Verizon. The Verizon iPhone 4 does not have a SIM slot, and any non-Verizon iphone 4 will not work with Verizon.
EDIT I just noticed this is in the 4S section, do you have a 4S? Verizon 4S does have a SIM slot, but the slot is not used for Verizon. You can try adding it, but if it is not a Verizon phone it won't work, 4 or 4S

Well, you've got a real mess on your hands with no easy solution. See, you're gonna have to go back to Spain to activate your phone on Orange's network, then request Orange to unlock it. You won't be able to do anything with that phone but use it as a paperweight until you do so. And no, Apple can't help you, nor can anyone here. Good luck.

I clicked on the more information tab and was taken to a website with some troubleshooting. I did what they suggested (based on the error #) and still no luck. I’ve tried to restore and update about 10 times now but the same message keeps coming up at the end. What should I do now?
P.S: I have the latest version of iTunes (11), my windows is up to date etc ...

iPhones are sold in carrier-locked and unlocked versions. If the phone has a carrier lock on it, you must contact the carrier to have it removed (you probably need to bring the phone to the carrier for the process). If you don't know the carrier, you won't be able to get it unlocked. US carriers will not remove the carrier lock and it cannot be removed.
How is Safari behaving that makes you say that Safari is not working? The lock status of the phone won't affect Safari, except that if the phone is locked and you aren't using the carrier (and SIM provided by the carrier) to which it is locked, then you can't use the phone or 3G service, only Wi-Fi.
The iPhone should not appear as a drive on your computer, so there's no error there.

If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are returning to an old iPhone that has been erased and you would like to set it up as a new device without restoring from a backup which would affect the name of your iPhone, as well as the contents therein.
