Water vs. iPhone 4S

So this weekend I had a water / iphone incident. The liquid sensors are both red so I know it wont be repalced. Its been in a bag of rice for 3 days and today i took it out. I backed it up on itunes. Everything works fine except it thinks headphones are in. This means no outside sound works-- inclding calling. I cant hear the speaker on the other line, but they can hear me. What shoud i do? New Phone or Replace parts? Prices?

Do you still have the 1 or 2-year factory warranty for the iphone? If you have still have it, there's no need to pay for a replacement. Instead, just call the apple care line tell them what's going on with your iphone and tell them that you can't go to an apple store because you are too busy or something, so you would need to deliver the phone to their repair center (delivery cost is free). They are gonna ship you back (immediately) a new or reburbished iphone without even checking if there was a water damage or not. Do you think they would take the time to check and verify all the products they got for repair? No, they would not even look at it, but you would actually need to have the factory warranty still running.
Hope this works for you.
Source: Already done it.
Very bad advice.  When you do a service exchange by shipping, Apple will insist on a credit card number.  When they do receive the returned unit, if they deem the damage was NOT covered under warranty, they will charge the out of warranty fee to your credit card.  If it is considered under warranty, there will be no charge.
But they will check the returned device, and you must agree to the possability of a charge when you arrange the service by shipping.
I've done many Apple warranty repairs by shipping and there is always the possability of a charge if you fail to meet any of the terms of the service.

    Hi all,
I have a water damage iPhone 5s was bring to service center to have new set change with top up the money. Well, the staff were told me that the phone can't be change due to some of minor parts are missing in the phone. He said this is due to company policy. I would like to check is that nothing can do with this missing minor parts? I really doubt the policy of the Apple as I was told as long as you bring to the service center, they will assists. As Apple is a well known brand top of the world, but the servicing is really make me so disappointed! I really doubt should I still continue to support the Apple product with helpless service!
Would like to take this opportunity to seek the professional advise in order to get my phone change back.
    Appreciate very much!
    Thanks.

Well, your service is handled by an Authorized Apple Service Center. If they refuse to handle the claim, that is well within their rights. Apple as well could void a claim under the same circumstances. I'm not saying that you did or did not modify the device, but you could try and talk to a supervisor there and make another request. You can also try and contact Apple by obtaining a number with this support document and describe your problem. http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • If I'm already paying 149.99 to replace my water damaged Iphone 4 can I pay the Iphone 4s replacement price and get that instead? If No explain why please . Thank you

I have a water damaged Iphone 4 I have had for only 8 months. Today I went to the apple store to see how much a replacement was and the girl told me 149.99 for my iphone. What I was wondering is can i pay the replacment cost of an Iphone 4s and get that instead . I dont see the problem since my phone is broken anyways . But I would like to hearf if any one has tried the same thing.
    Thanks

The only exception would be if there were no like models available.  There was a short period when there were not sufficient supplies of the 3gs to effect warranty replacements.  In that case, they replaced the 3GS with a 4 at no additional charge.  But the warranty fine print specifies that they will repair or replace the device, at their discresion.

  • I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. It spent time underwater, saltwater. I let it dry for a week, turned it on, the apple symbol came on, then it died. I need to retrieve my photos off it. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

You're talking about the logic board. The two most likely things to get toasted, with water damage, are the battery(it shorts out), & the logic board. The worst water damage would be salt water. I'm afraid your logic board is toast.

  • Transferring data from water-damaged iphone to replacement iphone

Will/Can Apple download picture, apps, etc. from your water-damaged iphone onto the replacement iphone?

No... Apple cannot and will not.
It is the users responsibility to regularly backup their content via iTunes on the computer or iCloud.
All media and apps acquired via iTunes should exist in iTunes on the users computer.

  • How much does it usually cost to fix water damaged iphone?

Will Apple be able to fix my water damaged iPhone and how much will it cost? The screen is black and won't come back on. It's only 1 month old and I hate to ditch it and get a refurbished one through insurance claim. I'm not sure if I'm asking this question in the right forum, though! Thanks for your help!

Thank you for your quick answer! So they won't fix the one I have for sure? I will get a refurbished phone?

  • If I take my water damaged iPhone 4 into an apple store, will they be able to retrieve my pictures, video and contacts from it?? It currently won't turn on, wondering if there is a way for them to turn it on to do that?

If I take my water damaged iPhone 4 into an apple store, will they be able to retrieve my pictures, video and contacts from it?? It currently won't turn on, wondering if there is a way for them to turn it on to do that?

No, they won't. If the phone won't turn on at all, the only way to even attempt to get information off the flash drive would be to turn the whole thing over to one of those data recovery firms like DriveSaver. You're looking at a couple of thousand dollars, at least.

  • Can my water damaged iPhone still be replaced under warranty if it had a problem before the water damage?

My iPhone 5 is still under a year old and it fell in the toilet for a few seconds about 3 days ago.
I know the apple warranty doesn't cover water damage. The liquid damage indicator in the SIM slot hasn't turned red.
Around March this year I noticed that some faint spots appeared in my photos taken by the rear camera and I've read that this type of damage could get you an instant replacement of your iPhone, I just never got around to taking it to the apple store. I have those photos saved so I can prove that this problem happened a while ago.
I've had my now water damaged iPhone in a rice bag for three days, however I have been charging it a little to turn it on every so often to check on it. It seems to be getting better, but the screen is still "fuzzy" and the touch is a bit "jumpy" and not as responsive as before. So I'm worried I might have damaged the screen or motherboard or something and I don't know what to do?
If I go into the apple store and tell them about the camera problem from before would they give me a new iPhone? or will they not accept it because of the water damage?
I really can't afford a new iPhone or a refurbished one even, so what's the best thing to do?
    thanks in advance.

No.  Your warranty is void due to the water damage
You can buy a replacement for $229

How much will it cost for an out of warranty repair for a water damaged iPhone 4S in the UK?
I got water in my iPhone 4S (not drenched as it was within a LifeStyle waterproof case).
I dried it out in a bowl of rice, but the phone no longer charges, will not allow wifi, cannot locate network.

You have to get a refurbished iPhone. As your phone is out of warranty, you will have to pay £139 at an Apple Store in order to get it > http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipho ne

  • How to retrieve photos from water-damaged iPhone

Last week (Wednesday), I my iPhone got wet while I was out of the country.  I immediately put it in a grocery bag of rice (no ziplocks or tupperware available), and put it on top of the refrigerator.  I left it there until the end of my trip on Saturday.  When I got home, I put it on the charger and left it until the local AT&T store opened on Monday.  They weren't able to help me, but suggested I go to the phone repair place across the street where, for $25, he opened it up and dried it out.  It did not come back on for him, but he suggested that I take it home and put it on my charger and see if it will come back on.
Just to be clear, I am not all that worried about salvaging the phone.  I'm pretty sure it is irretrievably damaged due to the length of time it was in the water and the fact that it was ON and I checked to see if it worked after 24 hours (that's how long they told me to keep it in rice).  I have insurance and can replace the phone.  Everything else was backed up.  What I DO need, is to retrieve the work-related photos that are on the phone that did not get backed up while I was on my trip.  I do not use the cloud, so 3 days worth of photos are on my phone (luckily I backed up before I left the country). I did some surfing and found some steps that say they can sometimes retrieve data from a wet/dead phone, so I tried to turn it on one more time, and was ecstatic to see the little Apple symbol appear followed by the "unlock" screen, but then the phone died again.
This gave me hope, so I ran back down to the repair shop and he could repeatedly get it to come on, but it shows the battery is dead and it will not stay on long enough to retrieve the data.  He swapped the battery and got it to come on long enough to start the back up but it got about 1/2 way through before it shut itself off again.  The battery in it is the original and it is dead.  He suggested I plug it in and keep trying to get it to come on long enough to dowload the pictures.  I have it plugged in, but it doesn't appear to be charging at all.  Is there something more I can do?  I've seen other posts that suggest keeping it in the rice for over a week.  I've even seen software that says it can retrieve data even from a dead phone ("Wondershare Dr. Fone").  Is there anything I can do to get those pictures?
    Thanks!

Search the internet.  This is way beyond the scope of this forum.
    Best of luck.

  • Water Damaged iPhone, turns on, no service, but worked last night, not this morning?

So on Monday, I dropped my iPhone in the toliet after using the bathroom. I had never dropped any phones in water before so didn't know the steps to take afterwards. I kept the phone on and used it, shaking all the water out of the dock, til it shut off. By this point, I thought the phone was done.
Later that night, I put the phone in a bag of rice and had it sit there til the next morning. I plugged the phone in, and it turned on, but I didn't have any service. The date and time were also messed up too.
But Tuesday night, I plugged it in, turned it on, and I HAD service! It was working just FINE! The screen did show water spots so I answered my texts, turned it off, and put it back in rice,
Yesterday and this morning, I turned it on again, and I have no service again.. So what should I do? Keep it in rice and hope for the best? Tuesday night it was working PERFECT! Such a disappointment because I thought I fixed it
Has anyone successfully fixed their iPhone using IFixIt? I looked it up on there and I think I can do it myself.

By turning on your iPhone before it completely dried (5+ days in
rice, and that is not a guarantee that the iPhone will recover),
something shorted out inside. The iPhone is fried and will
not work. Out of Warranty replacement for iPhone 4 is $149 US,
    adjust for your location.
The iPhone may work sporadically, but the water caused permanent
damage and the iPhone will die sooner rather than later if it starts up
    again.

  • Water damaged iPhone automatically restarts- what to do?

About 2 weeks ago, I submerged my iPhone 4 completely in water. I let it dry in rice for two days and it worked fine- until I charged it. Now it turns on and works, but will automatically restart after 4 minutes. I am an American student currently studying abroad in Germany, so it is pretty difficult to get tech support. I will be in germany until May and do not want to go much longer without a working phone.
Should I replace the battery? Or replace my whole iPhone all together? My applecare protection plan expired about a month ago, so I need to find the cheapest option.
Could I go to an Apple Reseller here in Germany and get it taken care of? Or would I have to have it shipped to me from the U.S.
    Any suggestions are appreciated!

Most likely, it will have to be replaced. Apple care would not have covered it anyway. It will have to be replaced in the US unless you get extremely lucky. You're probably going to have to ship it back to a family member to take in to an Apple Store in the States and get an out of warranty replacement, then have them ship the replacement back to you.

  • Water damaged iPhone 5c. what is the best thing for me to do?

i dropped my brand new iphone 5c in water. what is the best thing for me to do? should i just go straight to apple? and how much would i be looking at?

Fact is, the chances of fully recovering from water damage, on an iPhone, are extremely low. Your best bet is to belly up to the bar & pay Apple the out of warranty exchange fee: US $269. Make an appointment at any Apple store.
    Good luck.

  • Water damaged iPhone - Ultrasonic cleaning?

Hi, I have managed to kill my 16GB iPhone G3, it might be smart but unfortunately it can't swim. I have emailed a few repair companies. ipaqrepair.co.uk has offered me free diagnostic and said they can repair some water damaged units using an ultra sonic bath.
Does anyone know if ultrasonic cleaning could possibly repair my phone? Anyone have any experience of using this company.
Any advise on this matter would be much appreciated, I love my iPhone and am totally gutted, I kept it in a bag of rice for about 4 days to dry it out, it won't respond at all, when I plug it into my computer it detects it but gives an error message.
    Thanks, Nev

Ultrasonic cleaning of iPhone components in DI water and alcohol might remove some corrosion and contamination, which theoretically could solve your problems, but it will certainly not repair any shorts or other electrical issues. If they will attempt to clean it and only charge you if it works, it might be worth a try. Doesn't sound like you've got much too lose since it sounds like it's a brick now. Another option is to take it apart yourself and attempt to clean it, perhaps with alcohol and/or a spray electrical cleaner.
