.Wav playback muffled until I toggle bass volume contr

I have been recording my vinyl collection to 24 bit .Wav, and am generally very happy with the results. However, there is one annoyance. When I go to playback my .Wav files they sound muffled, until I toggle the bass volume control under the volume controls, then the sound opens up and sounds great. It's pretty much just an oddity, but also kind of bothersome. I've reinstalled the drivers because I thought maybe I had a conflict with an audio editor program, but I have since uninstalled it as well. Any clue?

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me debug my audio problems.
The problem is that audio playback is clipped and has low volume.
The details of my setup are as follows:

My ALSA mixer settings (which were used in the recording shown in this post) are at pastebin.
The mixer settings were chosen so that all "dB gain" is 0.00 for all columns in alsamixer.
Recording an MP3 (played at full volume) from the Stereo Mixer source in audacity I gives output which looks clipped and has low volume (link).
This occurs with any MP3 and any other sound source (Youtube in Chromium, etc.)
The problem does not occur when I boot into Windows XP, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem.

When I turn on my ipad2 the volume box appears and does not go away until i hit the volume button on the side and the increase volume button does not seem to funtion only the lower section does?

I need help. I got an ipad 2 for Christmas and the volume box appears every time I turn it on and it won't go away until I hit the side volume button. I also realized that the upper portion of the volume key does not seem to work properly. Any solutions?

My video playback, in separate window, has no volume or jog functionality

I can not use the progress jog bar, as well as the volume bar, when viewing videos in a separate window via iTunes. If i click on either of them it will simply pause the video and not slide.
To adjust the volume or skip forward or back I have to open the iTunes main window and do it form there. I can use the keyboard shortcuts but I prefer to use the separate window to control playback and volume.
Running current version of iTunes (64bit) on Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) which was freshly installed this past week. Was also having this issue with the RC and RTM version of Windows 7 I was running prior. Seems to have broke with a recent software update to iTunes as I did not have this issue before. I have dealt with this issues for some weeks now and just see no reason to it to keep happening.
Any help?

Never mind. It's because I had audio and video going through HDMI through the Thunderbolt port. As soon as I shut off my Amp, the separate windows appeared again. Very strange.

Poor WAV playback with Soundblaster Live soundc

How can I change settings for my Soundblaster Li've soundcard to improve playback quality of WAV files? I used to have no problem with this, but now WAV files skip when played in any audio player.
I suspect the soundcard was somehow reconfigured to play only up to a certain bitrate that is lower than the full WAV setting. I think this all went haywire when I upgraded from XP to XP service pack 2.
Or maybe I have the wrong audio codec?
Any ideas?

Well that idea did not work!!! I ended up having to buy another creative sound card, but it is working at least and without the annoying problems the other one was having. Turns out the other one was on its way to death. It compleatly died the other day.

WAV playback problem on N91

i listen to a lot of long seemless mixes in WAV file format(upto around one and a half hours long) but the N91 introduces silences that last a few seconds every couple of minutes throughout the entire playback. if i fast forward thru the entire mix and then rewind back to the start it plays fine. but if a call interrupts the playback the silences return again. any ideas?

For starters I would check and see that your Audio Hardware is all still ok
Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware
Make sure your audio interface is selected / available
And check your channel mapping is ok
Also make sure some other application hasn't currently got control of your audio interface

Bass volume varies suddenly

Since I bought my HP laptop (LT A8-6410), I have been experiencing problems with the sound output while listening to music. The music volume, especially the bass, varies every now and then while listening to music. I have tried listening with headphones as well and I was experiencing the same problem, so it is not due to speakers.
The varying of the sound volume takes place couple times in a minute.
What can I do? I bought the laptop only a couple of months ago and have had this problem since beginning. I have also taken my laptop to the seller for maintenance and they changed the motherboard, but it didn't fix the problem.

No WAV playback in QT over USB

Hi, very strange problem.
My answering machine messages are sent as email attachments: .wav files. I receive them as normal with the attachment but when I try to play them back using quicktime pro, they do not play back through my USB Harmon Kardon speakers. Everything else (such as mp3 files,) play back as normal. (and if I select 'internal speakers' in sound prefs, playback is fine (but naturally only through the internal speaker.))
Similarly, if I open the file in iTunes, playback through the HKs is as normal. It is only wav (and seemingly .aif) files played directly in quicktime, that refuse to behave. I am running the latest version of flip4mac, and similarly, playback through VLC is perfect through the USB speakers.

I'm a bit of a novice so I'll do my best, but please note I am still waiting to buy my new Ipod as they are not in the Bham Apple store yet!! But what I have done is convert movies and put them in my Itunes ready to transfer to the new ipod when i get it. The movies have audio and play ok in Itunes so i am assuming it will be okay.

This is what one of the guys wha talking about ( Streamclip), its a free download. When you have it open it and follow the instructions, this allows you to convert your QT movie into a quicktime movie that I tghen save into Movies and then import into itunes, it goes right into the video section. Like I say I'm no expert and I don't have my new ipod to see if I have done it right.
The only thing I don't understand is why the conversion process seems to create a file 2-3 times the size of the original.???

X-Fi XTreme Audio NO surround speaker volume contr

As stated in the topic's title, I have NO rear speaker volume control. This will be the first time I have EVER had to deal with this. I just got a new install done on my computer and I got the drivers and installed them. After that I tested my drivers out, of course, with some music. Then I realized I could turn down the volume all the way and I was only controlling the front-two side speakers. The front center speaker, be it part of the surround, would not respond to volume changes either.
In short, when I turn down the volume like I ALWAYS have in the past it refuses to turn down the surround speakers as well. It only turns down the 2. speakers.
I have seen many of these appearing on this site due to my search and I have noticed Creative is not responding. Due to my faith in Creative fading upon seeing poor support, I surely hope I get a snappy response, even during the holiday seasons.
As a side note: Mute works for ALL speakers.

I fixed it:
. I uninstalled all related Creative software.
2. I uninstalled sndvol32.exe from my System32.
3. I uninstalled and removed all X-Fi drivers.
4. Rebooted.
5. Reinstalled sndvol32.exe using: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/39095
6. Reinstalled the latest driver and console from Creative.

Surround controller advice - SPL SMC 2489 or Blue Sky Bass Management Contr

Im needing a sourround controller for my 5.1 setup.
I have a Blue Sky System One 2.1 (2 sattelites and a subwoofer), 2 Mackie HR 826 and a Prodipe Pro 8. I know it is not optimal with different speakers, but i will upgrade to the same speakers when possible.
Im concidering a SLP SMC 2489 or Blue Sky Bass Management Controller Mk 2.
I know that the blue sky have the bas management option which the SPL dont have, but how importent is this for mixing in 5.1 ? Or can someone recommend another/better surround controller ?

Volume Contr

Ive just changed my Creative GD580 Inspire 5. over to Analog from Digital on my X-Fi XtreameMusic sound card, but now is I've got no volume control from my decoder, means everytime I want to change the volume I have to do it from the Volume Panel or Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices...
This is a pain, what can I do to get my decoder controling the volume? The sound is clearly passing through the decoder still because I can change Dolby PL2 settings from Stereo, to movie and music.

Yes, I do have both controls and they are enabled but they do not help no matter how I change them. The control I remember using had a percentage counter, much like the one in cmss, im not sure if it was cmss, but if it was, it is not working the same now. When performing the sound and noise tests, all speakers are loud and clear, but this is the only time this is so. Vista - Still no Creative Volume Contr

I was amazed to see another update of the X-Fi drivers for Vista, that also seems to install on XP.
However there is still no Creative Audio Volume control available in Vista - is this ever going to be implemented, it's far more accessible to use than the standard Vista Volume control?
Ho hum till another update appears - if it appears.

I think you need the Vista applications CD... You can buy it, or download it, but not from Creative directly.

AirTunes intermittently cutting off

Running Airport Extreme Base Station 5ghz with Airport Express running iTunes. Works great when it's working which is about 75% of the time. I keep getting the music to cut off until I toggle the volume control on iTunes. I do not have interference electrically nor with other radio devices. Just by quickly toggling the volume tells I don't have interference problems. I need a fix please this is very annoying. I feel it's a intermittent problems with iTunes.

Audio/Bass Control For Mac Mini

Recently bought a new Mac Mini and I have an old Logitech Z-5300 speakers attached to it. Is there anyway to turn the bass down through the OS? I have the bass turned down to 0 on the speaker unit itself and the bass volume is still coming through very high and I need to turn it down so I don't disturb my neighbor in the next room. Thanks.

Audio playback from within a state machine without halting execution

I have created a state machine that acquires and analyzes an input signal and transitions states based on triggers detected within that signal. In one particular state I need to play back a prerecorded file (right now I am just using a .wav file for testing purposes). I understand that due to the data flow model the state machine hangs up during the playback state until the playback is finished, but I need to find someway around this. Obviously, whenever the machine hangs up it cannot continue acquiring and analyzing the signal. How can I start the playback from within the state machine without halting its execution?

Do you use the sound output VIs? If you do, try this. On the "Play Sound File VI" set the timeout value=0
