But you can create an array of clusters containing waveform graphs, right? If you want to create a modular front panel of graphs etc.

  • How do I add signals from different modules to the same waveform chart?

When using build array to connect signals from different FP modules to the same waveform chart, the array type is not the same as if all the signals come from one Read Array. Only one digital indicator on the chart displays with the build array method. Why

    Hi gencell,
There are two ways to plot multiple plots on a Waveform Chart, a 2D array and a cluster of doubles or integers. I would suggest that you use a Bundle to create a cluster.
This information is in the Context Help of the Waveform Chart terminal (from the Block Diagram).

  • Saving array data from a waveform chart

I am using a CRIO 9004 and a 9237 bridge module to measure some strains from strain gauges. I've got one timed loop that reads the DMA FIFO and puts the arrays of values (16 data points, 4 per channel) into a queue. In the consumer timed  loop a For loop scales the binary data, auto indexes it into arrays, then the arrays are merged into a 2D array for the four channels  displayed on a waveform chart . Everytime the consumer loop runs it indexes 4 data points (per channel) yet the waveform chart plots them in a consecutive manner and doesn't overwrite the previous four. If I convert the arrays to waveform arrays I don't see anything on the waveform chart.
If I pass the 2D array of data to a array indicator inside or outside the consumer loop I get only 16 data points. I want to save the information that appears on the waveform chart  after the consumer loop but because I'm not using waveform data type I can't use the write waveforms to file vi. The waveform chart history buffer has been set to 195360.
Idealy we will run the four channels for 120 seconds charting the data and saving the data. The minimum data rate is 1613kS/s (403 per channel) The data can be saved after the loops have finished gathering and processing or while they are running. I noticed when I tried to write to TDMS it slowed the consumer down. Same thing if I use a shift register with the volume of data.
I suspect I'm not sending data to the chart in the correct manner ( usualy takes two attempts to "clear chart" using shortcut menu).  I'm not too familiar with timed loops /producer consumer loops  and just tried to put something together based on examples.
I've attached my host vi and front panel screenshot.

Hope they appear attached this time.

  • Waveform Chart NOT allowed inside array of clusters; Dynamic plot stacking?

The NI Developer Zone has a VI that does something I want - dynamically
stack plots in a useful way. Unfortunately, I would like those plots
to actually be Waveform Charts and NOT Waveform Graphs (as the
    documentation specifies but LIES!)
A little further experimentation shows you that it is seemingly not
possible to make an array of clusters that contain Waveform Charts!
    Why?
Alternatively, are there any other ways to smartly show many signals at
once? I have found multiplots to be frustrating as it is difficult to
assign the number of plots once you start the VI (hence the existence
    of Dynamic Stack Plots).

  • How to take waveform chart data and put it into an array

    Hello all,
I am new to programming in Labview, and am learning basically by watching youtube video and such. My question is how to take a set of random data that I have written code for and linked to a waveform chart, and put the data into an array so I can calculate the mean of the data set. If there is an easier way to calculate the mean of the data set I am all ears, but I need to be able to display the mean on the front panel each time the code is run. I have attached a file of my code.
    Thanks

    Welcome.
If you have not done so, look at the on-line tutorials on Getting Started with LabVIEW on the NI web site.
A chart has a property known as History which retains some previous values.  You can get access to the the History property by popping up on the block diagram terminal of the chart and selecting Create >> Property Node. Note that the history length can be set via a pop up menu.  The default length is 1024.
Other comments: When you know the number of iteration in advance you should use a for loop rather than the while loop.
You can also use an autoindexing tunnel at the boundary of the loop to create an array. It only contains the values from the current run, unlike the chart history which can retain values between runs (as long as the VI remains in memory). Watch the two Mean indicators as you run this VI several times.
The error wire is to assure that the history property node runs after the loop.  Disconnect the wire and watch the Mean and Mean 2 indicators carefully.
The Wait is to slow things down a bit so that you can see what is happening.

  • Plotting elements from an array in waveform chart

    Hi all,
I am trying to plot a real time data by extracting single element from an array.
Problem is that, at some frequencies waveform chart plot perfect while at other frequencies it plots like a undersampled signals.
    Any suggestions?

The timing information comes from the data acquisition process, not the display. You should be able to get equally good display of timing information on a chart or a graph.
How many samples do you read at a time? How do you define "realtime"? Anything plotted on a graph or chart for the use of a human operator does not need to be updated more than about 10 times per second because the eye/mind system works at about that time scale. For humans a real time grahical update rate of 2 to 10 Hz is adequate. Then you will have 256 to ~51 new samples at each update.
Another issue is that both your graph and your plot have plot areas which are less than 200 pixels wide. If you supply more than [plot width] pixels to a graph or chart, LabVIEW will reduce the data to determine which pixels to plot. So your graph with 1000 X-axis values has that reduced to the 184 pixels across the width of the graph. So, regardless of the precision of the data, the "precision" of the display is limited to the number of pixels.

  • How to show two different plots with current system time and date on waveform chart

I am using  one waveform chart to display the more than one value continiously. The data  are comming properly but i am not getting my system (pc) time and date on x axis. It is showing default date and time (i.e.01/01/1904 5:30:45). Please  give me suggestions to display the real time and date on x axis of waveform chart.

How does your data look like? Do you graph waveform data types, dynamic data, or plain arrays/clustes? In the case of plain arrays, you need to set x0 to the absolute start time of your data, e.g. with a property node.
I you would attach your code (or an image) we could offer more specific advice. There are too many possibilities.

  • Cursor legend for waveform chart

Greetings again. Is there a method to turn on the cursor legend in a waveform chart (like in the waveform graphs)? I'd like to allow a user of my application to be able to select a portion of a chart and have the application report the value plotted.
I am acquiring data via the Analog In channels of a PCI-6036e at 1500 Hz to plot in real-time. I tried plotting my data with the waveform graph but it only shows the latest readings and does not scroll the data. I know I could build an array and rotate through it as the data comes in but that seems like a lot more effort just to be able to use the cursor controls to highlight data.
Any ideas? Am I being too brief?
    Thanks-
    -dennis.

Cursors are only avalaible on graphs, not charts. There was a post on this subject yesterday...

  • 3 Waveform Chart to a Single Excel but in Different Spreadsheet

I wanted my waveform chart to export the data to excel which I can easily do by right clicking the chart and export to excel. But I have 3 waveform chart and I want to export it to a single excel file but in different spread sheet. How do I do that with the same result with the conventional "right click method and export"?

For this you probably will need to add some code to your VI to do this instead of right clicking on the chart. You can use the VIs located in the Programming>Report Generation>Excel Specific pane which has tons of stuff for that.
Attached is an example of a basic VI that populates three waveform charts with random data and creates an excel spreadsheet with each chart's data input into a different workbook. This is rough and you can add a lot more functionality if you want depending on your needs. Just take references to all your charts and put them into an array and feed into the for loop.
(Also there are probably better/cleaner ways to do it but this is the best I've got )

    Hi,
here´s a small example with a property node (Historie), everytime you restart that VI, first the chart is cleaned up and than refilled again.
    Hope this helps,

  • Any alternate solution to using Waveform Chart Property Nodes 'ActPlot', 'Plot.Visible' for mulit-plot color problem on PDA?

    Hello,
On a waveform chart, 4 signals need to be plotted based on the status of 4 boolean inputs. Eg. if the first boolean input is true, the first signal needs
to be visible on the waveform chart; if the first boolean input is false, the first signal should not be visible on the waveform chart and so on. This can be
done on LabVIEW desktop using the Waveform Chart Property Nodes 'ActPlot', 'Plot.Visible' - a sample VI "BundleSignals_Select_Desktop.vi" is attached for
    reference.
But on PDA, since the Waveform Chart Property Nodes 'ActPlot', 'Plot.Visible' are not supported, some other method has to be used. I have done the
selection/de-selection of these signals using 'Insert', 'Delete' array functions as shown in the attached VIs "BundleSignals_PDA.zip" which works, but the
problem is that the colour of these signals do not work as desired when the selection/de-selection of these signals is done - It is required that the first
signal should always appear in White color, the second signal should always appear in Red color, the third always in Green color & the fourth always in Blue
    color.
I hope i have made myself clear of the problem. Has anyone faced this problem before & is there a solution?
Note: Version of LabVIEW that we are using: LabVIEW 8.5 Professional Development System for Windows Vista/XP/2000 and LabVIEW 8.5 PDA Module for Windows
    Mobile.

Unfortunately the only alternative to using property nodes is to set the properties manually on the development environement. The limited size of memory does limit us in terms of features for the module.

  • Waveform chart. Send data to Excel

I am monitoring the output voltage from a electronic circuit using LabView 7.1 and a DAQ card.
I have been able to view the output voltage using a Waveform Chart but i have been unsuccessful sending the data to a file. Only one data point gets saved each time.
I am using the "Write to Spreadsheet File .vi "
Could someone tell me what i am doing wrong?

You can build a 1D array as your loop runs. Where your data exits the while loop, right click on the border and select 'Enable Index'.
If you want to save data continously, you need to move your 'Write to spreadsheet file' vi inside your while loop. As it is, only the last data point will be saved when you stop your loop.
You will also need to connect a control or constant to the file path input so that you do not get a file dialog every time your loop iterates. Further, connect a True constant to the 'append to file?' input so that you do not overwrite data.
Also, you may want to insert a wait period in your loop to allow other processes to run.Message Edited by DavidT on 04-27-2005 09:16 AM

  • How do you reset Waveform chart to blank?

I have a VI with a Waveform chart in the WHILE loop, and each time I STOP the vi and re-start it, the old data remains in the display and moves out only as new data is collected.  This old data persists even after the VI is closed and re-opened.
Is there a way to remove the old data each time the VI is run, in other words to make the blank screen the default for the  Waveform chart?  Right now, every time I open and run the VI, there is a squiggly line in the display, from irrelevant/useless data collected previously, and it would be cleaner and less confusing if there was no old data displayed there.
    Thanks,
    Dave
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks, but, still confused.  I already have a data source wired to the Waveform graph.  I cannot wire two things to the Waveform graph...so...can you offer more information? See the vi below....Waveform graph allows only one thing to be wired into it....
Are you suggesting wiring an empty array each time I use the VI and then reconnecting the data source?

  • How to save data from a waveform chart to a file?

Hi! I have a question:how to save a real time data from a waveform chart? attachement is a example, how can i do to save the data from 0 second to 25 seconds to a file ?thanks!

You can use a property node to get the chart history as a array. Then you can write that data to the file. The data in the array in you example can also be writen to a file. If you only wnat a portion of the data to be saved, use the Array Subset function to get the part you want.

  • Clearing a waveform chart

    Hello!
Can someone explain how to re-set a waveform chart to initialize to 0
at the start of the run of the VI.
I notice one example where a zero array is input...
    but this looks like overkill.
    Is there an easier way.
    Thanks,
    Adrian

    Adrian,
It's really simple. Just create a property node or reference to the chart, and select the history. Then, just wire a constant (easiest to create a constant from the node itself) which is empty, and voila - an initialized chart.
Good luck, and let us know how you do.
