Waveform graph plot legend in labview 8.5 won't respond to arrow keys?

I heard labview 8.5 fixes most of the problems that plague 8.2, so I recently installed it to try it out and see if it is worth the effort of another upgrade.  Messing around today, I found an issue that wasn't related to the installer itself.
The plot legend on a waveform graph doesn't appear to respond to arrow keys for precise placement.  It doesn't matter whether auto-size plot legend is turned on or off.  When I want to place a plot legend very precisely, just like with any other labview control I like to use the arrow keys to get things perfectly aligned.  I want to make the plot legend perfectly in the corner of the graph but its very hard to get it placed right with just the mouse.  In labview 8.5 it seems like plot legends no longer respond to arrow keys.
Can anyone confirm this or know of a way to precisely place the plot legend in labview 8.5?

I got 99 problems but 8.6 ain't one.

Ben,
I checked the snap to grid hypothesis. Even when activated the arrow keys still allow an accurate positionning of the objects at pixel level.
That's so nice that I changed my setup. I now have a reasonnably large spaced grid (50 pixels) with an invisible grid (contrast adjusted to zero). That should make object positionning and dimensionning much faster than before.

  • Is it possible to print a waveform graph programmatically from within Labview 7.1.1 Base Edition?

I would like to be able to print the results of a test from a Waveform Graph programmatically in a Labview 7.1.1 vi.

    Hi
There is a way of doing it.
    1. Create a sub-vi that will act as your report page.
    2. You can then populate the Front Panel of this sub-vi with all the controls and decorations that you want to print. Make it look like a report page. The controls will need to attached to the connector pane so that you can pass the data into the sub-vi from you main vi for printing.
    3. In the sub-vi, Go to File->Properties->Print Options and make sure that you check Automatically Print Front Panel every time VI completes execution.
    4. Modify your Main VI so that it calls the  "Print Report" sub vi that you have just created on demand e.g. in response to clicking a button.
    5. Remember to include the Front Panel if you build this into an application using app builder. The builder will normally strip front panels from sub vi's.
    Hope that helps

  • Changing Graph Plot Legend

I have no problem changing a normal graphs plot legend with a property node, but I'm trying to display three different sets of data on one graph.  I tried doing it using a plot reference with the Plot Legend and using Caption Text.  They should be settable when the VI is running, but the way I was trying to do it I got a reference error (1055 Reference Invalid).  Setting either the Plot Legend or Caption Text would be acceptable if I could just figure it out.
I'm trying to display 32 spectrums, but only use 8 graphs and have the name of the particular channel change.  Doing this without doing an FFT the channel name gets brought into the graph, but when I use the Power Spectrum VI I don't have the Spectrum Info wired into anything.  So, I'm bringing my original channel name array over and trying to do an iteration to pick the correct plot reference and channel name.
I've extracted only the part of my code for this question, so hopefully it is easy to look at what I'm doing.
The first VI and SubVI are functional.  The second SubVI is where I was attempting to change the Caption Text.  I've tried other things too, but I just wanted to show one way I was attempting to do it.

I don't have the SV add on so I can't check out your main program. I looked at your sub vi and you're doing more code than you need to. Take a look at my example, I've put your 8 graphs into a cluster then used an array of references along with arrays for your chanel indecies. Maybe it can give you some ideas for your program.

  • Change waveform graph plot order

I am using waveform graph with 2D input dat to create two plots, each with its own y-axis, but a common x-axis. Plot 0 is always on top of Plot 1. Is there a way to have Plot 1 on top of (in front of) Plot 0?

    Labview 8.5

You would only need to reorder the array that's fed to the graph. You would not need to change the original dataset. See attached for a sample.
I'm not aware of a property that allows you to change the plot number of a plot after the fact. At least not in 8.2. Can't speak for 8.5.

  • Data acquisition and waveform graph plot

    Dear All
My signal is out put of current transformer which is 2v dc. I succesfully configure usb 1208fs with labview8.2. Now I want to plot my input signal on the waveform graph in frequency vs amplitude(db). Can any one guide me how can i plot my data?

    Hi,
Could you strip the VISA stuff and re-post your VI so I could run it and see where is the difference coming from. A few observations though
    1. Always try to wire from left to right and top to bottom so that your block diagram code is readable.
     2. A waveform graph gets completely redrawn everytime you give it soem data ao it is typically used outside any loops. If you want to display a waveform inside a loop, it is better to use waveform chart.
    Regards,
    Ankita

  • Multiplot waveform graph plots are different colors when set to be the same with a property node.

The graphs were working yesterday. I made a few changes to another part of the block diagram and now the graphs do not plot all of the plots the same color. I am using a for loop with a property node with the elements active plot connected to the iteration terminal, and plot color to a color box. My for loop increments programmaticaly from another part of the code to create plots as it runs. I have replaced the graphs with new ones and they will work sometimes.
    I am using Win2k and LV 7.1
    Thanks,
    Brett

    Hi bh3560,
Have you tried chaging the color by right clicking on the line in the plot legend.  There is an option to change the color of the plot.

  • XY-Graph / Plot legend: How to detect changes in 2nd/3rd/4th ... legend position

    Hello,
I have an XY-Graph with 4 plots. How can I detect, for example, the color change of the second plot in the legend. The active plot, using a property node, is always plot 0. So I am not able to detect changes in the 2nd/3rd ... plot.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot.

    Dear friends,
    Thanks for your replys.
Aeastet - I could not attach the complete code as it is very lage and distributed in many Vi's. However I would like to inform that I am certainly using Local Variables and Property nodes to set somethings on graph. For local variable I just connected History to constant to make the graph blank in the begining. I am attaching photos of all of them for your referance.
    Vaibhav -  Same as above
Gaurav - I could not open the VI sent by you as it is in the newer version of LV. However please tell if you have done something to correct the problem.

  • Waveform graph with timestamp

I have 5 arrays of data, 4 are data values and 1 is the UTC seconds.  I want to use a waveform graph as it smooths the plots so the traces look
more rounded compared to an XY Graph.  I have experimented with bundle and build waveform setups but the best  I have been able to do is to get the timestamp along the X axis but no data shows up in the graph  or all the data shows up as but it looks like the axis is swapped but the timestamp is still at the bottom.
Does anyone know why the waveform graph plots are smoother than the XY Graph plots.  If I knew this answer I could use the XYGraph instead.
    Thanks
    Tim C.
1:30 Seconds ARRRGHHH!!!! I want my popcorn NOW! Isn't there anything faster than a microwave!

I don't notice a difference between an XY Graph and a Waveform Graph if the dt on both are the same and assuming all of the other attributes (interpolation, point style, range, etc.) are the same as shown below. To create a waveform graph and assuming that the dt is constant in your time array, you can do something like the other image. An XY graph is normally used only when the intervals on the x axis are not constant. If you see a difference, you should post your VI (with data in the arrays) so that someone can look at it.

  • Strange Fonts in labview graph's plot legend.

    Hello All,
I am running labview 7.1 on a Windows XP machine and
the default and only language is English (US). Verified this under
    Control Panel > Regional Settings.
When I run a VI, I get strange fonts in the plot
legend. They keep updating as the VI runs. Here is a screen shot of the
    plot legend:
I change the font to something I can read, save the VI and run it again
and it automatically changes to this unreadable font again. Any ideas
on what I can do? Thanks.

Is it just the font that is off, or are these actually non-printable characters?

  • How do I programmatically change the plot legend names on my xy graph?

I have a need to change the names/labels on my XY Graph's Legend at run time.  This is because plot 0 is not always the same set of data.  I have searched high and low for a couple days now to no avail.  The closest thing I've seen is overlaying a string over the plot legend, but I would prefer to do change the property of this box.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Ben,
with waveforms this also works for me fine. So where is the pitfall? (if always all works fine, one don't really gets experience)
    greets, Dave
P.S. @ J.B. I used the Code Capture Tool from the Starware Thread, this made me so fast. If I could do, I would give it five stars each time I use it.
Btw. would it be possible to programmatically give ratings with LV? Here it should be used. Thanks again to tst & the others

  • How to get a fixed plot area in a Waveform Graph even if the Y scale's precision change

Because I'm stacking many Waveform Graph. I want them to look the same. When I change the precision of the values in the Y Scale. The plot area doesn't keep its initial width. In the example provided. I'm changing the precision and you can see it moving. Is there a way to keep the width fixed?
I noticed that there is justification for unit label. But I didn't got the expected behavior.

The menu item is only in LabVIEW 6.1 and above because the plot area did not autoscale in earlier versions so I'm not sure exactly what kind of problem you're seeeing. Here's the original example in 6.0 format and when I run it, the plot areas stay aligned as the precision changes. Could you maybe post an example that demonstrates the behavior?

  • Can't plot image into WDT waveform graph

I'm trying to plot an icon onto a WDT waveform graph but it doesn't seem to be working. The image plots while using the default (array of doubles) data type, but goes missing when I change to WDT. As far as I can tell, the two graphs are the same except for their data type.
Am I missing a step or is this a LabVIEW bug?

I was able obtain the icon on the WDT waveform graph in your code by changing the property selected on its property node to PlotImages.Middle.

  • How does waveform graph downsamples the data before it is plotted

    Hi,
I'm interested in how does waveform graph downsamples the data before it is plotted and what algorithm is used for this purpose? My goal is to plot 30 plots that have 1M samples each and I would like to downsample them before plotting onto a graph. I tried several VIs/algorithms for resampling and none of them gave the same result as seen by waveform graph (when all the samples are plotted).
For example, if only one sample of 1M samples is 1 and all others are 0, then after downsampling to 1k samples the sample is not visible on the graph anymore. However, if I plot all 1M samples directly onto the graph, then also this 1 sample is visible (see attached example).

    Hi andrej,
LabVIEW draws plots in the way that draw every pixel affected by signal. So for example if there is zero-valued 1M samples and even one equals to 1, you will see the peak. That is the reason why you do not get the exactly same behavior comparing to interpolating. But if you set FIR as interpolation mode in Resample Waveforms (single shot).vi, result is really similar, but of course amplitude is 1000-times smaller than original one (because there is dt set to 1000). Keep also in mind that in Graph 2, there is different Y-scale and it should be considered as noise, not relevant data, I would expect 1000-times smaller amplitude as in Graph 3, it is many more times smaller.
I would also like to say something about downsampling (decimating) the data. If you have 1M samples, you can see the peak even that there is only one value. But bigger problem is that with this graph resolution (I guess that is not more than 1000px), it is problem to find position of this peak. It means that still the zoom is needed to know where the peak is. Usually, when there is that big set of data, you are extracting different data (statistical information, peaks in FFT, etc.) not just visual data in graph.
    Mariaaa:
I do not understand your question, can you please describe more your needs? You mentioned saving the data into a file, you can use Write to Measurement File express VI or see Write to Text File.vi in Example Finder and try to appropriately modify it.

  • How plotting on a digital waveform graph the bit transition in function of the time

    Hi everyone,
I am using LabView 6.1 on a Windows XP computer. I am to plot output bits sequences on a digital waveform graph just before sending the information to a board.
So far I can see the transitions for my 16-bit port (16 plots) but the width of a pulse is always identical, no matter what times I enter. I wired my 1-D array timestamps to the property node Xscale.MarkerVals[] of my digital waveform graph... but it doesn't seem to affect my plotting...
Thanks in advance for any help concerning this problem.
