Change waveform graph plot order

I am using waveform graph with 2D input dat to create two plots, each with its own y-axis, but a common x-axis. Plot 0 is always on top of Plot 1. Is there a way to have Plot 1 on top of (in front of) Plot 0?

You would only need to reorder the array that's fed to the graph. You would not need to change the original dataset. See attached for a sample.
I'm not aware of a property that allows you to change the plot number of a plot after the fact. At least not in 8.2. Can't speak for 8.5.

  • Programmatically Changing Waveform Graph and the number of plots

    I have a waveform graph that needs to display a variable number of plots based on the number of inputs.  Is there a way to programmatically adjust the number of plots displayed on the waveform graph?

    You need to use the Active Plot input before the Plot Name(s).  Property nodes are read from top to bottom so you can alternate several pairs of ActPlot,Plot.Name;ActPlot,Plot.Name, etc.  Then wire 0,1,2,etc to the ActPlot and your chosen name to the Plot.Name right under it.  Or, use for loops and index the ActPlot input.  See the pic.

  • Waveform graph plot legend in labview 8.5 won't respond to arrow keys?

    I heard labview 8.5 fixes most of the problems that plague 8.2, so I recently installed it to try it out and see if it is worth the effort of another upgrade.  Messing around today, I found an issue that wasn't related to the installer itself.
    The plot legend on a waveform graph doesn't appear to respond to arrow keys for precise placement.  It doesn't matter whether auto-size plot legend is turned on or off.  When I want to place a plot legend very precisely, just like with any other labview control I like to use the arrow keys to get things perfectly aligned.  I want to make the plot legend perfectly in the corner of the graph but its very hard to get it placed right with just the mouse.  In labview 8.5 it seems like plot legends no longer respond to arrow keys.
    Can anyone confirm this or know of a way to precisely place the plot legend in labview 8.5?

    I got 99 problems but 8.6 ain't one.

    Ben,
    I checked the snap to grid hypothesis. Even when activated the arrow keys still allow an accurate positionning of the objects at pixel level.
    That's so nice that I changed my setup. I now have a reasonnably large spaced grid (50 pixels) with an invisible grid (contrast adjusted to zero). That should make object positionning and dimensionning much faster than before.

  • Data acquisition and waveform graph plot

    Dear All
    My signal is out put of current transformer which is 2v dc. I succesfully configure usb 1208fs with labview8.2. Now I want to plot my input signal on the waveform graph in frequency vs amplitude(db). Can any one guide me how can i plot my data?

    Hi,
    Could you strip the VISA stuff and re-post your VI so I could run it and see where is the difference coming from. A few observations though
    1. Always try to wire from left to right and top to bottom so that your block diagram code is readable.
     2. A waveform graph gets completely redrawn everytime you give it soem data ao it is typically used outside any loops. If you want to display a waveform inside a loop, it is better to use waveform chart.

  • How does one change XY Graph Plot.Style property defaults OR Change the Properties od Individual Plots?

    I have an XY graph with a variable (known) number of multiple plots. Because the number of plots can vary, the plot style is sometimes not what I want. I'm trying to use a property node in a for-loop to change the Plot.LineStyle, Plot.PointStyle, and Plot.Fill/PtColor properties for each of the plots in an XY graph. However, perhaps because the names are not static, the colors do not seem to be updating as I'd like, and I'm really unsure as to why this is happening. Strangely, the LineStyle and PointStyle do seem to be updating as I'd like.
    Please see the attached ScatterColors.zip file which contains the main VI in question (SplitInGroupsScatterByOrder.vi) and two sub-VIs on which it depends. Thanks in advance for your help

    Hello Pierre,
    This dynamic color feature is still not present in 2009, much less 6.1. I have linked a discussion forum post here that discusses in detail a work around for addiing this functionality. While you may not be able to open their example VIs, the theory is described; such that, you may attempt to replicate in 6.1.
    Hope this helps.

  • Multiplot waveform graph plots are different colors when set to be the same with a property node.

    The graphs were working yesterday. I made a few changes to another part of the block diagram and now the graphs do not plot all of the plots the same color. I am using a for loop with a property node with the elements active plot connected to the iteration terminal, and plot color to a color box. My for loop increments programmaticaly from another part of the code to create plots as it runs. I have replaced the graphs with new ones and they will work sometimes.
    I am using Win2k and LV 7.1
    Thanks,
    Brett

    Hi bh3560,
    Have you tried chaging the color by right clicking on the line in the plot legend.  There is an option to change the color of the plot.

  • Get a waveform graph to stop plotting after a given time period

    I am doing a research project looking at the effects of modifying visual feedback on a person's current force output. I have a waveform graph that plots the target force level they are trying to match (specified by me) and next to it a second plot showing their current force output (in real time). I am trying to make a condition where the current force output plot (or really the whole waveform graph) stops plotting after a 10 s time period, but can't seem to get it to work. It either plots for the whole trial, or does not plot at all. Is there a way to put a timer on a waveform graph in order to tell it to stop plotting after a specified time period?
    Thanks!

  • How do I change the data used by a Waveform graph dependent upon which tab window is active?

    Hi,
    First I want to say thank you in advanced!!  Let me describe the situation a little bit.  My front panel VI (see attachment) has a tab control and on each tab window I have an intensity chart with a free-drag cursor.  Below the tab control window I am trying to display either the row or the column of data where the cursor is located, I can do this for each intensity chart individually.  I am trying to clean the block diagram up a little bit and instead of using 4 Waveform Graphs, I want to use only one, can the data that is displayed in the wave form graph is associated with which page is active on the Tab Control.  Can this be done?  And how can I do it?

  • 3D graph plot properties - cannot be changed

    Hi all,
    I still cannot change the plot properties of the 3D graph.  I open the Plot Properties tab up and it gets stuck on the first page.
    This means that I cannot release any VIs which use the 3D graph - a big problem.
    Has anyone else experience this?  What do you suggest to fix it.
    Thanks,
    Battler.

    I have experienced exactly the same behavior (can not change 3D graph plot properties) with 3D plots (scatter and surface) in LabVIEW 2011.  The 3D plot properties page works correctly at first but then fails to switch pages after larger data sets have been loaded to the graph.  For example, my scatter graph contains 13 plots, each with 320 points of data.  Once the page "gets stuck" it is stuck for all 3D graphs until the offending graph is deleted and re-created.  To reproduce this issue create at least one 3D plot with a large number of plots in it.
    On a related note, if there was a programmatic method for deleting plots from a 3D graph then it's possible that this issue could be worked around.

  • Waveform graph with timestamp

    I have 5 arrays of data, 4 are data values and 1 is the UTC seconds.  I want to use a waveform graph as it smooths the plots so the traces look
    more rounded compared to an XY Graph.  I have experimented with bundle and build waveform setups but the best  I have been able to do is to get the timestamp along the X axis but no data shows up in the graph  or all the data shows up as but it looks like the axis is swapped but the timestamp is still at the bottom.
    Does anyone know why the waveform graph plots are smoother than the XY Graph plots.  If I knew this answer I could use the XYGraph instead.
    Thanks

    1:30 Seconds ARRRGHHH!!!! I want my popcorn NOW! Isn't there anything faster than a microwave!

    I don't notice a difference between an XY Graph and a Waveform Graph if the dt on both are the same and assuming all of the other attributes (interpolation, point style, range, etc.) are the same as shown below. To create a waveform graph and assuming that the dt is constant in your time array, you can do something like the other image. An XY graph is normally used only when the intervals on the x axis are not constant. If you see a difference, you should post your VI (with data in the arrays) so that someone can look at it.

  • How to get a fixed plot area in a Waveform Graph even if the Y scale's precision change

    Because I'm stacking many Waveform Graph. I want them to look the same. When I change the precision of the values in the Y Scale. The plot area doesn't keep its initial width. In the example provided. I'm changing the precision and you can see it moving. Is there a way to keep the width fixed?
    I noticed that there is justification for unit label. But I didn't got the expected behavior.

    The menu item is only in LabVIEW 6.1 and above because the plot area did not autoscale in earlier versions so I'm not sure exactly what kind of problem you're seeeing. Here's the original example in 6.0 format and when I run it, the plot areas stay aligned as the precision changes. Could you maybe post an example that demonstrates the behavior?

  • Change order of wpf graph plots

    I'm trying to solve following issue. Let's say I'm sampling data once per second and showing it on the graph. I want to show history of the data, say last 20 plots using the same color with fading. What I do now:
    - create 21 plots, say Plots[0]..Plots[20]
    - at meas 1, set Data[0] = data
    - set Plots[0] opacity to 1
    - at meas 2, set Data[1] = data
    - set Plots[1] opacity to 1, Plots[0] opacity to 0.5
    - at meas 3, set Data[2] = data
    - set Plots[2] opacity to 1, Plots[1] opacity to 0.6, Plots[0] opacity to 0.3
    - at meas 21, set Data[20] = data
    - set opacity to 0.1..1
    // we're fine as of now, here comes the tricky part
    - at meas 22 I need to remove the data of meas 0 (stored at Data[0]) and replace it with the new data
    - so I set Data[0] = data
    - set Plots[0] opacity to 1 (it's the newest result)
    - set other plots opacity 0.1..0.9
    // and here is the problem: Plots[0] is now at the bottom of the plot stack and is covered by 20 other plots, thus is barely visible
    so I somehow need to move Plots[0] to the top of the stack
    I've tried removing Plot and Data of the farthest plot and adding creating plot with the most recent data, but it leads to incorrect indices (Plot.Index grows all the time, but Data array stays the same)
    Another option would be to fix plots order and opacity in advance, and change data for all plots all the time. But I assume this would be very slow (think of 20-50 copies of the plot with say 1000 points).
    So, any bright ideas here?

    Idea 1) Pre-allocate all of the fade plots, use BeginInit/EndInit when updating the Data collection, and always apply the newest data to the last plot. In pseudo-code:
        // initial setup
        for( opacity = 0..1 )
            var renderer = new Renderer( opacity )
            graph.Plots.Add( new Plot { Renderer = renderer } )
        // on data update
        graph.BeginInit()
        for( i = 1..graph.Data.Count )
            graph.Data[i - 1] = graph.Data[i] /* shift old data down */
        graph.Data[20] = /* assign new data to the last plot */
        graph.EndInit()
    Idea 2) If you just want the historic data visible in the graph (i.e. you do not need to query or interact with the old data through the graph), and if your range is stable, then you could have one plot in the graph and use a PhosphorColorRamp to get the visual fade effect. In pseudo-code:
        // initial setup
        var brush = new SolidColorBrush( C )
        Graph.SetPhosphorMode( brush, Immediate )
        graph.Plots.Add( new Plot { Renderer = new Renderer( brush ) } )
        graph.RenderMode = Raster
        graph.PhosphorColorRamp = new FadeRamp { Color = C, Duration = 20, DurationKind = Frames }
        // on data update
        graph.Data[0] = /* assign new data to first plot */
    (Note that the phosphor effect is one of the areas being updated, so the syntax will be changing in the next release of Measurement Studio.)

  • How the waveform graph indicator doesn't change its property ?

    I have designed a printcontrol vi which I only want to print the plots in the waveform graph on the front panel.In order to acquire this effect, I use the property to set the plot area background colour to transparency. In the course of running,the property works,
    I mean the waveform graph changes transparent.But I hope it will not change because it will not convient for the user.I don't know how to achieve this goal.Hope to get your help,thanks a lot!

    One of your problems is the fact that you reset the panel color only after the event has completed and since it generates the full report, this can take some time.
    The problem will be much less noticeable if you reset the changed properties right after grabbing the image.
    Attached is a quick draft. Modify as needed.
    (Sorry, I don't have 7.1, so I downconverted from 8.0. There could be some conversion errors that should be easy to fix.)
    You should also make sure to place the terminals of the latch action booleans INSIDE their corresponding event case, else it might not reset to false during execution of the event.

  • Can't plot image into WDT waveform graph

    I'm trying to plot an icon onto a WDT waveform graph but it doesn't seem to be working. The image plots while using the default (array of doubles) data type, but goes missing when I change to WDT. As far as I can tell, the two graphs are the same except for their data type.
    Am I missing a step or is this a LabVIEW bug?

     I was able obtain the icon on the WDT waveform graph in your code by changing the property selected on its property node to PlotImages.Middle.

  • Add plots to digital waveform graph programmatically

    Hi Guys,
                This might be an easy one but I can't seem to find the right property. I'm adding "Plot Name" values for a each Plot in a Digital Waveform Graph. I select each plot with "Active Plot" property and name it. However if there are already e.g. 7 plots and I try to set eight plot active (i.e. 7 = Active Plot) I get an error cause this eight plot doesn't exist on the graph, and so can't be named.
        How can I add (or indeed remove) plots using property nodes?
        Thanks

    Hello,
    One thing to consider is the actual data the graph is receiving.  Choosing plot 8 in this case is perhaps attempting to choose a plot which doesn't exist in the data, which could be why you're seeing the error.
    Off the cuff, one thought might be to have the following "steps" take place when you want to add plots:
    on the appropriate action to create a plot, create a default data set representing that plot
    package that with your overall graph data so that the new plot exists in the data
    write that data to the graph, perhaps using the Value Signaling property (via a property node linked to the Graph)
    trap the graph's Value Change event using an event structure (possibly in a parallel loop) and update the plot name there (much like you are today - using a property node to first set the active plot to <previous value + 1> since you just added a plot, and then set your new plot name)
    Not sure what the rest of your application looks like, but hope this helps!
