We stinn lacks for a mark as read feature

Please could you reimplement a mark as read feature.
We can't read all forums at once but when we go into a single forum all are marked as read.
TIA

Maybe there is something wrong with the file where rules are stored. You may try re-creating it and setting up the rule again:
1. Quit Mail.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
3. Locate MessageRules.plist and move it to the Desktop. If there is a file called MessageRules.plist.backup, move it to the Desktop too. You may also see MessageSorting.plist files there; this is where Mail 1.x stored the rules, and they are no longer used by Mail 2.x, so just move them to the Trash if you see them.
4. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
5. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
6. Go online again if you went offline in step 4.
If the problem persists after doing this, then you know the rules file itself has no bearing on it, and you may move the files on the Desktop back to the ~/Library/Mail/ folder, overwriting any files Mail may have created anew there (quit Mail first).
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder.

  • Incoming messages marked as read

    Hi,
First I'd like to chime in with those who hate that messages are immediately marked as read.
But here is my real, related, problem; Incoming messages become marked as read in the background. That is; I send myself a message, it comes in as unread. I switch to other apps and work for a while, come back and the new message is marked as read.
Ah, I just did another test, and found that if I have entourage running also (I'm switching to Mail, have been using Entourage), when it gets the mail, it's marked as read.

I apologize for being incompetent twice in one message. I've changed my profile. Thanks for pointing it out. I observed the behavior in Mail, so that's where I thought the problem was, (and maybe still is - why should another client affect Mail?). I'm switching from Entourage to Mail, that's why I'm running simultaneously for a few weeks. I've done it many times over the years of operating systems and clients, specifically two years ago when I switched to Apple's Mail, then after finding it lacking, one year ago when I switched back to Entourage. I also often answer email using a browser when I'm not on my machine at home. So I use three methods. I suppose that's wrong too. I noticed the connection between Entourage and Mail halfway through the post, so it turned from a question into a posting that someone else might find useful if they observe the same behavior. But now I know what an idiot I am so everybody ignore this post!

  • How can I read an email on my iPad and have it not be marked as read?

I have an Exchange account set up on my iPad for my work email. My email is partly organized such that I look at unread emails (whether or not I've actually read them) for actions required. However, when I tap an email on my iPad, it is automatically marked as read as soon as it comes up in the reading pane. I do realize I can tap a button to have it marked as unread, but I want the default to be that an email is not marked as read. Any feedback?

On the iPad, using the mail app, there is no way to do what you are asking without tapping the flag icon and marking the item as unread. Have you tried the OWA app for the iPad? It may have that functionality, but I haven't tested it as you need an Office 365 subscription with Exchange support to use the app.

Please help, Thank you for this online support option

Imap wasn't designed for this kind of multi user situation. It assumes that you the account owner will be using it to manage one account via multiple devices. So once you have read a message it has been read, regardless of which device you were using at the time.
You appear to be describing a situation where you want more than one user to read each message, without anyone knowing if anyone else has read it or even dealt with it. Frankly, I can't imagine a set of circumstances where this workflow would make sense or be useful.
You can do various things such as manually setting messages as unread, or moving them from one folder to another to indicate that they have been processed, but much of this relies on users being thorough and conscientious.
You may need to be running your own server to do this sort of email message managing, if you really need to fork a message so it gets to multiple recipients. Managing which users see a particular message is a job for a server, not the end-user's email client.

  • Any difference in signature lock function, read-only field property, & signed tab "Mark as read-only

Is there any real difference between
    1) simply setting a field to read-only in a custom script on the Signed tab of a signature field by:
    this.getField("field name").readonly = true;
    2) including the field in the "Mark as read-only: " list of fields on the Signed tab of a signature field
and, 3) including the field in a call to the setLock() method of a signature field?
As far as I can tell there isn't, but am I missing something? And if they are all the same, then since setLock() must execute in a priviledged context, it seems the harder way to get a read-only field.

    Hi Ron,
It certainly sounds like you are on the right track. What version of Acrobat are you using, is it Pro or Standard, Mac or Win? I see where you mentioned the file was created in Acrobat X, but I'm not sure that the app that create the PDF file is the same version as the one you are using for editing.

  • Signing: Empty list in "Field Selection" when picking fields to mark as read-only on signing

I have a PDF form with some signature fields. I am attempting to mark some of the fields in the document as read-only when the document is signed. This is what I did:
    1. Modify the "Signed" properties of the signature field.
    2. Choose "Mark as read-only" and "Just these fields" in the drop down list beside this option.
    3. Click on the "Pick" button to select the fields to be marked read-only when the user signs this field.
In the "Field Selection" dialog that comes up, nothing is shown in the list.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I need to do to add fields to this list, or should it be populated automatically allowing me to choose what I want?
I noticed this feature is only available for Acrobat 6.0 and later. The compatibility level for the document I created is 1.6 (Acrobat 7 and later). It is created in Acrobat X.
Just figuring my way around these things. Did a google search for any solutions, but couldn't find anything on this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ron

  • Mail on iOS 5 and iCloud sync (Mails are not marked as read when I read them on my MacBook)

    Hello everyone,
I am an iOS 5 and OS X Lion User in Germany and I have following question concering Mail on iOS 5 and iCloud.
I have a MacBook Pro 13" with OS X Lion 10.7.2 and an iPhone 4 with iOS 5. I also have an iCloud account (I switched yesterday from MobileMe).
When I receive a new e-Mail it will be pushed immediately to my iPhone an my MacBook. When I open this new e-mail on my iPhone, it is immediately marked as read on my MacBook. But when I open the new e-mail on my MacBook, it is not marked as read on my iPhone. I have manually to sync mail first.
Does anyone know if this feature is not supported on iCloud and iOS 5? Thanks for your help!

Add me to the list of people having this problem.
I have 1 Gmail account a 2 Google Apps accounts and this happens with all 3. If I read a messaging in Mail.app, it DOES get marked read on my iPod Touch, though.
If I read the emails on my iPod Touch, BlackBerry, or Gmail web interface, the read status does not get synced back to Mail.app unless I close and re-open it.
Not sure if this is an Apple issue or a Gmail issue, but it's VERY annoying and somewhat defeats the purpose of using IMAP.

  • Gmail: Mails sent to myself are marked as READ when using IMAP -how to fix?

I just started using IMAP with my Gmail account and Apple Mail. But when I send an e-mail to myself (from my imap account to my imap account), the e-mail will of course go to my inbox but it will be marked as read.
I don't have the option to "mark as unread" in either Apple Mail rules or Gmail filters, they both only have "mark as read".
If I do it using Gmail webmail, then the e-mail is not marked as read, so I don't know if it's something Apple Mail is doing to my email? If I right-click it and "mark as unread", the message will be marked as unread both in my "inbox" and in my "sent mail". But I don't want to right click all my "to do mails" to make sure I see them.
(I'm aware this is not the best workflow, but I like it..)

Alas, I'm still having problems with Gmail. Now what happens is that I'm getting the "caution" triangle next to the account which indicates a problem. The error message when I click on that triangle is: "Unable to Connect There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account “Gmail” or try again. The server error encountered was: The connection to the server “imap.gmail.com” on port 587 timed out."
Also, something else is strange. When I look in the account settings window, my password is not there. It's blank. So I enter it. A few minutes later, when I check, my password is again no longer there.
Regarding your suggestions to move the mail folder, I really don't want to do that because I have about 20 mailboxes full of important saved messages. I can't afford to lose those. Surely there must be some other way?
Leopard is the worst OS upgrade in Apple's history, IMO. It's caused more problems for me than I could have imagined.

  • Mail being marked as read automatically

I have iOS 6.1.4 on iPhone 5 and multiple mail accounts.
Gmail or Exchange - mail is being marked as read automatically even if I have not touched the mail. Not sure why this is happening but it is definitely an issue. I also beta tested version 7 beta 2 ios and it does the same thing.
with 5 minutes of the mail running on the iphone and no user intervention mail files are marked as read. The read is then synced to Gmail and Exchange accounts so you miss mail as all are marked as read.

I have stumbled across and answer to a similar question posted in 2012.
    Search for :
How do I stop Mail auto-reading emails
    It is not possible apparently.

  • E-Mail Not Marked as Read on Phone

    Hello,
I have a 9650 with BIS on Sprint. I get my e-mail through OWA. When I open or mark as read an e-mail on my phone, my Outlook inbox on my desktop is updated accordingly. However, when I open an e-mail on my desktop, my inbox on my phone is not updated to show that the e-mail has been opened. I have to go in an mark as read all of the items, which is a royal pain.
Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Mail 2.0.5 - all my messages are missing after marking as read!!!

Ok Mail has worked more or less fine for me after upgrading from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3..until a few minutes ago when I decided to mark all the unread messages in my inbox as read. I hadn't read quite a few, so instead of going and clicking on each one, I just selected all, right clicked, and chose Mark as Read. Suddenly they all disappeared, all but a few. I have two inboxes, one on my ISP, and one .mac. Disk Utility says the hard disk is fine, so I rebuilt both inboxes, and now my ISP inbox still just shows a few emails (appears to be the emails I've received since upgrading to Tiger, only a few days' worth), and my .mac inbox now shows about a years' worth of emails...but I know I have more than that, since I've had the .mac account for 2-3 years or so. Also next to the .mac inbox there is some sort of a progress icon (a pie gradually filling in). If I hover the mouse over the .mac account, it says "Contents stored on server. Name on server: INBOX". Which doesn't make sense, since I have always had Mail download the mail from both my accounts, deleting from server after downloading. If I get info on my ISP inbox, it displays "Account Info", and under the Show Messages on POP server, it shows a bunch of messages from about a year ago. But if I pulldown the menu and instead of showing "all messages on POP server" I choose either of the other options ("items downloaded to my Mac" or "items removed from my Mac"), the list is exactly the same.
My mail appears to be still on my hard drive, since getting info on the various mailbox folders in ~/Library/Mail/ shows about the right amounts of data. I don't want to lose over 300MB (at least 5 years worth) of email....anyone know what could have happened, and more importantly how to fix it?? Thanks!

Ok after thoroughly searching previous threads about similar problems (existing messages not being displayed by Mail 2.x.x), it appears the 10.4 Archive and Install didn't completely convert the mbox file from my ISP email, since there were only a few emlx files (but there are hundreds of emails in the mbox)...so I had to resort to reimporting it manually. Not sure what happened though to make Mail see all the messages for a few days after installing 10.4.3; there was no error message during the system install, and all I did that prompted all my messages to disappear was to mark all as read...
As far as the .mac goes, I have no clue where those emails went...I discovered that somewhere along the line my mbox file for .mac account got corrupt...but nothing over a year old is even on the server, which is odd. Those messages apparently are forever lost. Add me to the statistics of why it's important to back up. :/

  • Messages not being marked as Read on IMAP account on iMac

I use the Mail application on my iMac to read my Gmail. I have it set up as IMAP, and it has worked very well for a long time. Recently, however, I noticed that if I read my mail on my iPhone, or my work computer (both of which have the correct IMAP settings), the messages are not being marked as Read (unbolded) on my iMac. I have to quit and restart Mail for the messages to be unbolded.
Not a big issue, but I wonder why it is happeneing, and how to correct it?

I'm getting this too. Switching to a different folder and back gets rid of the blue dot. This only happens with my exchange account. All other accounts work normally.

  • Why are emails in public folders being marked as read when viewed in the viewing pane when I have disabled this in settings

I am using office 2010 on a windows 7 PC. In outlook I have changed the settings for the reading pane so that emails are not marked as read unless I actually open them. This is working for emails in my inbox and outbox but not for emails in public
folders. Emails in public folders are marked as read as soon as I click on them. Do public folders have a different setting for marking email as read in the reading pane?
It is important for me that emails in the public folders are not marked as read when i click on them as I need to read through hundreds of project emails in these folders and need to be able to distinguish between emails I have read and actioned
and emails I have just clicked on while searching for an email I need. This folder serves as an archive for my emails so i cant delete them once I have read them. I also don't have permission to label them or create tasks from them.

    Hi,
I tested in my lab, it worked for public folders. My Outlook version is Outlook 2013.
Please open Outlook in safe mode to check result.
If possible, please check if this issue persists from a different client server.
