Web application session state in Oracle

In .Net 2.0, it is possible to store session states of web applications in other databases than SQL Server. Does any one have stored session state in Oracle? What should be done?

J2ee Web application exploded format in oracle 10g

Hi,
I am trying to develop a simple j2ee application in Exploded Format
in oracle 10g AS. i have created a new OC4J instance called
TestOC4j for this. A .war file works fine in this instance.
I have placed the application under applications directory of TestOC4j.
I have made entries in server.xml, oc4j_mod.conf,
default-web-site.xml,http-web-site.xml and application.xml in META-INF
of the application.
The application get deployed with no errors.gets created in
application-deployments too.
But the url http://server-ipaddress:7778/test_app is not working.
Please help.

Roopa, it looks like there is no problem with the deployment of your application in exploded format. Have you accessed http://server-ipaddress:7778/test_app/pages/welcome.jsp? Any problem access http://server-ipaddress:7778/j2ee/, the default home page of the default-web-app ?
When you say the url http://server-ipaddress:7778/test_app is not working, what is the error message if any on the browser, on server console, in the server.log and http-web-access.log of ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/log/, ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/application-deployments/test_app/application.log?

But i want to make it work with the user name "test" throw the function authorize.
In my opinion i am creating a DAD in a wrong way. Can anybody help me?

AFAIK, there is no official document which states that "Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications" is certified with Oracle E-Business Suite 11i/R12. I assume it should work with Forms 10g but not with Forms 6i, so it should work (does not mean it is certified) with R12.
I would suggest you log a SR and confirm this with Oracle Support.

Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications for Oracle Apps

I am trying to test Oracle Application 11i and R12 using Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications.
In 11i:
If i open any forms then then the Application is getting crashed whereas it's recording the html events.
In R12:
If i open any forms then the Form is getting opened but it's not recording the events happening on the forms
whereas it's recording the html events.
Please let me know whether Oracle Functional Testing for Web Applications supports can be used to test Oracle Apps 11i/R12 including the Forms.

PHP/Oracle Web Application Framework

for people hopping on the Oracle/PHP bandwagon, there's a PHP object oriented Web Application framework that supports Oracle 8.0.5, Oracle 8i, 9i and 10G.
It's called 'Achievo ATK' and can be found on http://www.achievo.org/atk
It makes developing a webinterface to an existing Oracle database pretty easy. It boils down to creating PHP classes around the tables, defining the relationships, and an application to manipulate the data (crud) is generated dynamically by the framework.
To give an example, a complete employee administration application for the 'emp/dept' tables from the scott schema is as much code as:

For network encryption take a look at ASO/ANO (advanced networking/security option). With Aso/Ano you can encrypt your sql*net traffic. But I don't think you need to encrypt the traffic between your database and application servers. They are probably on a own network where only authorized (sysad's and dba's) can come. The use of ssl between your application server and browsers seems enough to me.

We have an Oracle 9i database.
We develop web applications using Microsoft C# and
ASP.Net.
The web servers talk to the database servers using
the Oracle Data Provider for .Net which I think uses
the standard Oracle Client.
The problem is that the database calls appear on the
network in plain text form. So if someone were
sniffing the network, they might be able to see the
queries and results.
How do we prevent that?
I have read about the Obfuscator, but I don't want to
encrypt the data in each field in the database. That
is a huge amount of work. I want something that works
like SSL works between browser and web server, where
the entire conversation is encrypted.
I have seen brief postings about SSL with Oracle and
that sounds like the thing, maybe. But I can't find
any documentation that makes it clear whether that is
really the solution to my problem, and if so, how to
configure it. The Oracle marketing literature seems
too brief and vague. Nor can I find details in the
online manuals.
If someone can provide a business-level overview here
and point me to the online references for the
detailed "How To...", that would be great!
One more thing: Is my desire to encrypt traffic
between the application and database servers
excessive?
We require all our web applications to use SSL to
prevent sniffers from seeing private data. It seems
only right that we require the same from our
connections to the database server.
At least we use network switches rather than hubs, so
there is much less exposure to a sniffer.

Connection problems in a Web Application

hi everybody.
I'm developing a struts-based Web Application to investigate an Oracle 9.2 DB, using Exadel Studio / Eclipse and Tomcat 5.0.
Here is the problem: I've made a class to test data-displaying, which simply connects to db using oci8 and returns a resultset, using the base procedure:

rs = st.executeQuery(sql);Now, everytime I call this method from my Action, to get back the resultset and display it in my jsp, I get a ClassNotFoundException on the Class.forName instruction.
Note that classes12.jar is correctly mounted, in fact if I run stand-alone the class containing this method, it connects without problems and returns the expected results. The exception is raised ONLY when the entire web application is running and the method is triggered by the struts Action.
Can anyone help me please?

This means that your driver jar is unavailable to your web application; I'm pretty sure that Tomcat overrides the classpath set by your IDE. You can add application jars to the WEB-INF/lib of your web application. You can also set a container classpath that points to the jars...
here's some instructions for add the jars for cactus to Tomcat; just substitute your driver jars in these instructions.

Also, classes12.jar is for Java 1.2 and Java 1.3 Since you are using Struts, I suspect you're also using Java 1.4 or Java 1.5 and you should probably be developing with the appropriate driver (classes12.jar does mostly work with Java 1.4, but Oracle doesn't support it.)

Error-page tag not valid in global-web-application.xml ?

From what I understand about the global-web-application.xml file in Oracle's documentation, the content of the web-app tag should be inherited to all web application as a web.xml content.
One of the web.xml tags is error-page, which contains the page url for the standard return codes (404, 500, and so on).
If I put the error-page on the web.xml inside a web application, it works as expected.
But if I don't put this tag inside the web applicaction, but in the global-web-applicacion.xml (web-app) tag, it doesn't work.
We are testing the 404 error page, but I don't know if it is because the application server can't find the error page or because the global-web-application.xml isn't being inherited correctly.
Where is this file supposed to be looked for? Or the only way to do this is by writing the configuration on all web applications?

You need to have Oracle Applicaiton Server as middle tier. Inside OAS, there are sample html codes and jinitiator to move Developer applicaiton to web without any code changes.

Web Application - Data caching of enterprise data

Sorry in advance if this is off-topic but I can't find anywhere else to post this type of question.
I am looking for information/suggestions such as books, technology or design methodology for my enterprise web applications. These sites are currently up and functional using only JSP, servlets and regular Java classes stored in a web application session to provide data caching and access. We are using Weblogic Server 6.1 running on an AIX Unix system at this time. I'm not sure that this is the best design architecture as our web sessions are getting too large but I can't think of any other Java technology to use and I need some help. Here's an overview of our environment and our needs.
Our core data is held in a mainframe based IMS system. Some DB2 is also used. Access to this data is through IMS COBOL transactions which we can execute with IMS Connect. We also use some JDBC to get to the DB2 tables directly where available.
Some overall application data is cached when the web application is deployed. We use singleton classes which are created and refreshed at deployment and they then refresh themselves from the sources every 24 hours.
Each time a user logs in we execute several IMS transactions and JDBC calls to cache user specific data in regular Java classes which are then simply placed in the users web session where we access them from JSP, servlets and other Java classes. The fields in these Java classes range from any type of primitive field to TreeMaps of other Java classes. As the data is cached it is sorted and other fields are calculated and stored in these classes. As the user progresses through the system we then may have to do several other IMS transaction and JDBC calls to collect other types of data. All of this is then also added to the users session. Most of this in inquiry. We do allow transactions but those are built from user input and data already cached and are then we just execute the IMS transactions with the input.
As our application has grown these Java classes have gotten larger and larger. And since these are simply stored in server memory in the web sessions then these are also getting huge. I'm concerned that this is not the best way for this application to be architected. Is there something else we should be doign? I simply don't understand how Entity Java Beans could be used but then again I don't know much about them. I wouldn't think that caching the data to a local database and accessing it from there would be any more efficient and would probably just slow down the system from all the I/O.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

The best book you can buy is 'Professional Java Server Programming, j2ee edition' by Wrox. It is by far the best reference I've used. Another quick reference consideration might be the j2ee book provided by codenotes... its quick and to the point.

Maintaining persistent client state in Oracle 8.1.6

I'm running Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows NT 4.0.
What are the methods to maintain the state of HTTP session (variable values, maybe transaction state) between the requests of the same user, in other words, how can I maintain HTTP session state in Oracle 8.1.6?
It's preferable to avoid using cookie, but I'll be very grateful for any advice.

ORA-29550: Java session state cleared

Hi all,
I am using Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0 on AIX
I have created a job that executes daily at 00:00:00 and create files by selecting data from database. But job is breaking daily and subjected error found in alert log file.
I have checked the metalink and found nothing except following
Error:     ORA-29550
Text:     Java session state cleared
Cause:     The Java state in the current session became inconsistent and was
     cleared.
Action:     No action required.
Can anybody help me on this issue?
