Hi,
please have a look to this overview of NetWeaver:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/30/c4461ff69d5a438f1286e344b545fa/frameset.htm
The Web AS is the Application Platform (for NetWeaver).
Portal belongs the People Integration.

Web Dispatcher configuration (ABAP+Java vs. ABAP+Portal)
We are using an internal Web Dispatcher to allow the connections from different networks.
This Webdispatcher entry we add to WAS configuration within Portal system object
By defintion of ABAP+Java double stack we do not have any problems and the test
http://webpispatcher:port/sap/bc/ping is successful.
When we have a ABAP system + Portal (Java) we only can test the connection
http://webpispatcher:port/
When we execute the test
http://webpispatcher:port/sap/bc/ping we get an error, because the url goes to Java stack.
We also detected that on Web Dispatcher configuration for ABAP+Java we have ABAP and J2EE server groups and application servers.
For ABAP+Portal we have only J2EE groups on Web Dispatcher configuration.
Question:
Which SAP parameter (e.g. ms/server_port_0, icm/HTTP/j2ee_0) or Web Dispatcher parameter (ms/http_port) is responsible for generation of ABAP groups (e.g. PUBLIC) within Web Dispatcher?Which SAP parameter (e.g. ms/server_port_0, icm/HTTP/j2ee_0) or Web Dispatcher parameter (ms/http_port) is responsible for generation of ABAP groups (e.g. PUBLIC) within Web Dispatcher?
In ABAP the logon group is handled by the ICF. In SICF you specify within the actual services(properties) which logon group that service should use for load balancing. As far as I remember though there is an exception if you are using an "end-to-end" ssl configuration where you can specify the destination logon group using wdisp/HTTPS/dest_logon_group parameter.
rdisp/mshost is the parameter on your web dispatcher that points to your message server to get a list of available logon groups.

Handling Java Web Service Exception in ABAP
Hi
I have created a web service in Java using NWDS.
Which has a businessMethod which throws a Exception based on certain business logic.
I have consumed this Web Service Method using .NET Client.
i am able to catch the Exception and get the Exceltion Message.
But when i try to consume the same web service Method in ABAP,
i am not getting the Exception Message .
The Method call works fine.
What am i missing here ?
regards
RajendraHi,
Upon further investigation and comparison of the custom exception object (generated during consumer proxy creation for a CUSTOM web service) with a standard exception object(generated during consumer proxy creation for a STANDARD web service) I found that the sub-elements of the exception structure errorPart are not available in the custom exception object (and one of these sub-elements is the message text).
Call Stack,ExceptionName and MessageText Elements are missing in the errorPart node of Exception
Node. as seen in the ABAP Exception structure generated.
Queries:
1. Are there any standards which need to be followed when coding exceptions in the Java web service for consumption in ABAP such that all sub-elements of the exception object are also created in ABAP during the proxy creation?
2. Can we get the Java code for a standard web service available in SAP Netweaver? Asking the same as the exception object created for the standard web service RoomABAPWS contains the sub-elements. Getting the Java code of the same will be very helpful in resolving the issue.

Problem consuming web service created by ABAP via standalone java client
I'm trying to consume web service created by ABAP in R3 system via standalone java client. I should be getting a string reply after consumed the web service (ZSMS_INBOUND), but so far i received null. I cant find any exception or log to trace the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Is there anything wrong with my client calling the web service?

Password resetting in web as abap+java
Hi,
I have installed portal 6.0 SR1 on Web AS ABAP+JAVA 640 SR1.
User I am creating in su01 through the ABAP stack.
Whenever I assign the initial password to a user created in this way or reset password of a user (through the ABAP stack), portal asks for new password and confirm the password. After this, it says <i>"user authentication failed". </i>
The workaround for this is that with the initial password of the user, I have to login as the user in portal through ABAP stack. When it asks for new password and we confirm it, we have to user this 'new' password to login to the portal screen.
I would like to know whether there is a setting I have to make in the JAVA stack for this purpose, or this is some bug in abap+java stack.
Thanks and regards,
Kunal.Hi Kunal,
u can reset password of user through Visual Administrator(from UserStore) or by WebAdministrator

Web Dispatcher and SSL on ABAP+Java
Hello,
Have installed SAP web dispatcher on WAS 6.40 ABAP+Java system. Communicating with Portal SP16 system.
The HTTP works fine. Have not been able to get SSL working with web dispatcher.
For troubleshooting activated ITS on this system and HTTPS works fine with ITS webgui.
Have followed the "how to" SSL for web dispatcher guide.
Also should mention that we have generated certificate requests and PSE's but our organization has not yet chosen a certificate authority to sign the cerficates. For other scenarios (log onto Portal, XI, etc) the only difference is the certifcate warning dialog, otherwise works fine. Would this cause a problem for Web Dispatcher?
Trying the SSL end to end scenario receive
WARNING: Could not start service 0 for protocol HTTPS on host "max-sap" on all adapters
Is there anything
unique for the ABAP+Java configuration?
Thanks,
AlanI solved this problem by setting the following profile parameter on my webdispatcher profile.
wdisp/ssl_ignore_host_mismatch = true
Doesn't fix the underlying problem but got me going until I can figure it out. -
How to choose between Web AS JAVA / ABAP / ABAP+Java ??
Hello,
Does any one has an idea, what should be the criteria for choosing the web AS instance for NW Enterprise portal?
let us make it simple......
<b>Can we compare (WEB AS JAVA/ABAP/ABAP+Java ADD-ON) & come up with advantages & disadvantages of the above three ?</b>
Regards
Sunil KulkarniHi Sunil,
I think there is no official statement except that both is possible, it depends on your needs.
But check out these docs:
http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Netweaver 04 -> Planning -> Technical Infrastructure Guide - SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0
and
http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Netweaver 04 -> Installation -> Installation Guide - SAP EP 6.0 (SR1) on WebAS 6.40
there you'll see that also the installation is more complex. Also patching the whole system will take more time as you have to patch also all the ABAP components of the application server.
If you can think of any need to have an ABAP stack on the same system, then make a good decision, because you can't install the ABAP stack afterwards as you can with the JAVA addin.

SAP Web AS ABAP + Java system
Hello All,
I am looking at the installation guide of SAP XI. I did not understand one thing from that guide. it says
<b>"If you want to install the component SAP Exchange Infrastructure:Prepare the SAP Web AS ABAP + Java system for SAP Exchange Infrastructure"</b>
I would appreciate if anyone of you can clarify what is <b>SAP Web AS ABAP + Java system</b>.
What I have been thinking all these days is we could have either Java(J2EE) or ABAP Web Application Server.
I don't understand what this ABAP + Java system is ?
Thanks in AdvanceHi Vanaja,
in the world of WAS 6.40 you can install it as three variant.
1. ABAP standalone (with it own SID) e.g. for R/3
2. Java stanalone (with it own SID) e.g. for EP 7.0
3. ABAP + Java as an Add in (Java and ABAP has the same SID)
For XI you have to install a so called double stack WAS 6.40 or SAP Web AS ABAP + Java System or ABAP + Java Add in. All this describe the same variant of the installation.
Normally you will have one database where J2EE-Scheme and
the ABAP-Schema is on the same database. I would really
suggest you to read the installation master SR1 there you
will get the understanding what is the difference.

Restoring Web AS ABAP+JAVA or JAVA to different host
Dear forum,
We have a disaster recovery plan by using another host (call it as the backup host) to run SAP in case the main host is failed.
The backup was done separately for DB, IFS and authorization, as well as the restore. After the restore, the profile parameters were changed to be pointing to the new host.
We did a restore of ABAP+ JAVA and JAVA only systems from the backup that was performed on the main host to the backup host.
In the JAVA part for both ABAP+JAVA and JAVA, I found a lot of things to change in configtool which are still pointing to the old host. I have tried to change the parameters that I found, but it didn't help.
I could get the ABAP part up and running by maintaining WRKSRVTBLE and some SQL packages issues, but not for the JAVA part.
Can I do a system copy from the main host to the backup host and in case of a disaster, the action is only restoring the DB part? Or any other suggestions?
Thanks before,
Agoes

Agoes Boedi PoerwantoHi Agoes,
Let me make sure I understand what you are trying to do. Your backup system is basically a copy of your production system running on a different host. If the production system fails then you will restore the data from the most recent backup to the system running on the backup host. Is that the scenario?
If you are just trying to copy the system to a new host and get it up and running, I would recommend an officially supported method such as a homogenous system copy to do this. However, the attached document in SAP note 568820 "iSeries: Implementing an Independent ASP (iASP) System" has an entire section on modifying an SAP system to run on a different host.
You may want to consider taking your HA strategy one step further by implementing an iASP. Your HA solution that you describe is very similar to the iASP solution, but I think an iASP will better meet your needs.

Error - Creating a Web Dynpro Application Accessing ABAP Functions
Dear All,
we are trying to implement a web dynpro application with accessing ABAP functions.
Previous tasks:
- insert the ABAP system into the SLD from the NWDI System (Transaction RZ70; the ABAP system is correctly insert into the SLD => technical systems)
- equipped the JCO connections with the web dynpro content manager (ping and test = OK)
Its the standard tutorial out of the SDN called Creating a Web Dynpro Application Accessing ABAP Functions.
Some hints:
- There are no errors after the implementation and the rebuild of the project in the NWDS
- The auto deployment works fine to the development runtime system. The application is shown in the Web Dynpro content manager
- The In the build log I found these entries:

For test purposes, we started the BAPI (BAPI_Flight_Getlist) on the ABAP system directly. It works.
Any ideas about the system behaviours (different URLs and missing functionality)?
Thanks a lot in advanced!

I will be very grateful if someone tell me what is happening. While I'm developing I can connect to my was 6.20 to see de BAPI and other stuff, to use on my program, but once I deploy the app and try to test it... this is what it drops:

I found at "How to Use the Web Dynpro Content Administrator.pdf" a good place to look for my mistake. But a big question appeared:
Once I get in the Web Dynpro Content Administrator and found my deplyed app I found this two JCo:
WD_MODELDATA_DEST
WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST
Witch status was a little grey diamond, or something like that. ¿Can somebody tell me what is happening with this Jco?
The page 27 of the pdf mentioned before, was different in my IDE SAP Developer Studio, the only option, by default, that give me was to choose between WD_MODELDATA_DEST and
WD_RFC_METADATA_DEST. I have two fields that must be fill to pass to the next dialog box or finished the creation RFC model.
Thanks a lot !!!Hi,
In NWDS, you should have defined your own JCo destinations when creating your model. For example:
- WD_<yourApp>_MODELDATA_DEST
- WD_<yourApp>_RFC_METADATA_DEST
Then in the Web Dynpro Content Administrator, you must create them, ie specify connection types, connection parameters...
For this, choose the button Maintain JCo Destinations, find the connetions you've created in NWDS and click the button Create. Just follow the steps of the wizard, and you're done!

Whats the difference between ABAP stack, ABAP+Java stack and Java stack
Hello,
I have a nagging doubt about the difference between the ABAP stack, ABAP+Java stack & the Java only stack. I believe that the method of applying the kernel for all the 3 types is different.
Also can we apply the ABAP support packs through JSPM.
Please put some light on this.
Thank youHi Zaheer
ABAP Stack
AS ABAP is used to provide the ABAP foundation of SAP NetWeaver.
Part of AS ABAP is the Search Engine Service (SES), which enables users to search for
business objects using Search and Classification (TREX). SES accesses Search and
Classification (TREX) functions through the Search and Classification (TREX) ABAP
client. SES replicates the business objects from the ABAP application to Search and
Classification (TREX), so that it can apply Search and Classification (TREX) search
functions to them. When a user enters a search query, the Search and Classification
(TREX) system responds to it, not the database for the ABAP application. For more
information, see the document Installation Guide SAP NetWeaver TREX Single Hosts /
Multiple Host.
Java stack
AS Java is used to provide the Java foundation of SAP NetWeaver. Among the key
capabilities of AS Java are:
J2EE Engine a J2EE 1.3-compliant application server for running enterprise
applications. In addition to the pure J2EE standard technologies, the J2EE
Engine implements complementary technologies, such as Web Dynpro or Web
Services, that are targeted at supporting large-scale, real-business application
development projects.
SAP Composite Application Framework Core (CAF Core) is a service-oriented
architecture for building and deploying composite applications. It enables
modeling of different service types entity services that represent a domain
model, application services that implement business logic, and external
services that offer connectivity to back-end services by means of remote
function calls (RFCs) or Web services. Usage type AS Java comprises the CAF
Core runtime environment, while design time tools are part of the SAP
NetWeaver Developer Studio.
Web Dynpro is the user interface technology for developing professional
business applications for mobile as well as for desktop clients. Web Dynpro
applications can easily be integrated into SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal,
providing a unified layout for the end user as well as enhanced navigation
support. Web Dynpro also allows, for example, the development of interactive
forms using the Adobe document services.
Adobe document services is a set of runtime services that provide a range of
form and document creation and manipulation functions such as:
Converting XML form templates (created using Adobe LiveCycle Designer)
to PDF and various print formats
Setting Adobe Reader rights to enable users to fill in and annotate forms,
save and print them locally, and include digital signatures for authentication
using the free Adobe Reader software
Extracting data from SAP applications into Interactive Forms and transferring form data
back into SAP applications using XML
ABAP + Java Stack
Contains both functionalities.
I hope this helps

License Problem in Abap+java stack
Hello,
I have installed my SAP XI/PI System with ABAP+JAVA Stack.
I have applied SAP license at ABAP Stack using slicense for web as abap+java, so is there any need to apply license again for java stack, because when i am checking in Visual Admin under license node , it is showing license is not installed.
If it is not required then why it is showing in Visual Admin tool that license is not installed. can some one give me guidance on this issue.
Best Regards,
V.SinghHi,
No restart will not make any difference.
You can overlook this. If in the /nslicense screen you see a permanent license, then no need to worry furthur..
Also in the system info page , you will see:
Software Product :Days Until Expiry
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,

Dear Experts
if i use stopsap r3 in this dual stack installation - it stops both ABAP & JAVA Web Application Servers.
I want to restart only JAVA Weba pplication server.
How do it ?
Thaks in Advance !
RgdsBut theoritically they are 2 indpeendent installations like
AS ABAP
AS JAVA
..Do you aggree ?? really am not good on basics!!
During the installation also - if select AS ABAP & AS JAVA - it will become dual installation
and it does not show
any dependency while installing that AS JAVA requires AS ABAP.[Installation Component Selection and Dependency Screen shot|http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn153/S0002919350/SAP%20Issues/Oracle_Patches.jpg]
Installation Component Selection and Dependency Screen shot
Is it because if AS ABAP is down - AS JAVA UME is 001 client - and Java authentication fails ?
Can we de attatch from ABAP UME for my requirement like - running JAVA WAS alone w/o ABAP.

J2EE logon groups in an ABAP+JAVA system
Hi,
We are trying to restrict java calls to specific App servers in our ABAP+JAVA system. So if we have 5 App servers, we want all J2EE requests to go to 3 Apps only.
We are using SAP web dispatcher for this purpose. When checking on SAP help site, it suggested two options.
1) Configuring Logon Groups on AS Java
2) Configuring Logon Groups Using Configuration Files
Which of the above would be a better option for ABAP+JAVA system?
Has anyone implemented this before? If yes, can you share your experiences/lessons learned??
Thanks.
Fahad1. Log on to the ABAP system.
2. Call transaction SPRO.
3. Go to SAP Solution Manager Implementation Guide -->
SAP Solution Manager --> Basic Settings --> SAP Solution Manager
System --> General Settings --> Client Copy
4. Perform the following steps:
a) Maintain Profile Parameters
b) Create Client
c) Copy Client 000
d) Convert UME
