Web Auth not working

I have spent a lot of time troubleshooting this and think I've narrowed down the problem. Here is the setup:
I've got two 4402 controllers running 4.0.179.11. The guest SSID is mapped to a dynamic interface (VLAN). The VLAN is trunked through one switch where it connects to a DSL modem. It's a Siemens DSL modem that does NAT. So essentially from the perspective of a guest user it is a flat network.
I have a DHCP scope set up on the WLCs. When a guest client connects, it receives an address. Then they open a web browser and say their homepage is http://www.google.com. It times out waiting for a DNS reply.
I did a sniffer trace on the port going to the DSL modem. I see the DNS query with a source IP address of the guest client PC and destination address of the DSL modem (which I guess gets NAT'd to the real DNS server). Then I see the DSL modem ARP for the MAC address of the guest client PC. But here's the kicker: nobody replies to the ARP request. And I believe that is why the guest client is timing out.
It works fine if I bypass the DNS capture by using https://1.1.1.1/login.html. Also once I authenticate, DNS from the client PC works great, so I know it's not an issue with NAT.
I'm guessing the WLC should be responding to the ARP request since the guest client PC cannot talk to the gateway at this point in the process. But why is it not answering?
I'd also like to point out that I first tried all of this on 4.0.206.0 but had the same issues.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

There is a bug in the pre-auth ACL (CSCse93986) but should not affect DNS. The webauth should work fine without a pre-auth ACL, but if you need to use one remember it's not statefull. You will need to allow for outbound and return traffic. I usually start with an ICMP rule to get the hang of the ACL, and then change to DNS. Bottom line you must be able to successfully run a NSLOOKUP to http://www.google.com or a site of your choice from the guest device, before you can get the Cisco Auth page.

  • Web auth not working on new controllers

We are currently experiencing a problem with web auth on one of our sites. This uses WiSM2 controllers running version 7.2.110.0 of the software.
The affected SSID is set up for web auth exactly the same way as our other site and that works (although that uses WiSMs running 7.0.230.0).
Both sites use the same web auth bundle and the same certificate. We have a DNS entry that points back to the virtual interface IP they all use which is 1.1.1.1.
When users connect to the SSID they are not being presented with the login page. Running a preview on the controller at the problem sites shows the correct page that should be being displayed.
The controllers have had the certificate re-applied, the web auth bundle reloaded on and have been upgraded from 7.2.103.0 to 7.2.110.0 but none of these have resolved the issue. All other SSIDs work fine, but this is the only one that uses web auth.
As I say, the only configuration difference is the hardware (WiSM2 vs WiSM) and the software level.
    Any suggestions?

When you mention that the login page does not open, that usually means that is a DNS issue. Make sure that you allow DNS from the guest subnet to the DNS server in which the FQDN of the certificate is being resolved.
Are you anchoring the guest ssid to an anchor controller? It would be the same troubleshooting, but make sure the anchor is configured correctly. The foreign wlc guest ssid needs to have a mobility anchor to the anchor wlc and the FW needs to allow DNS back in if your using an internal DNS server.
If you are not using an anchor wlc, the best way to test is to map the guest to another dynamic interface on the inside network that is working. If that works, your FW is blocking DNS on the guest subnet. You also can remove the FQDN (make sure it was entered correctly) from the VIP and test. If that fixes it, then DNS was not resolving the certificate FQDN.
    Hope this helps

  • Web-Auth not working on Apple IOS devices

I am using L3 web-auth (when no mac filter match). I currently have downloaded the custom page to the controller. It works fine with Windows and Android. I can not get to the redirect page on Apple IOS though.
In my pre-auth ACL I have added rules to allow any traffic to and from 17.0.0.0/8. I can see that it is getting hits.
I have also tried the config netwrok web-auth captive-bypass enable command.
    Neither of these have helped.
My Apple client is getting an IP address.
    Any ideas? Thanks

I saved the file before I added the proxy and the wsdl looks the same between the working one and the non working one. I can not pin point the when the change to the web service is occuring. It seemed to work once all the way up until I had a ADF page trying to retrieve data, another time it failed when the proxy was created.
I can get the version that I saved to work immediately after the version that does not fails.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Dan

    Multiauthentication Mode
Available in Cisco IOS Release 12.2(33)SXI and later releases, multiauthentication (multiauth) mode allows one 802.1X/MAB client on the voice VLAN and multiple authenticated 802.1X/MAB/webauth clients on the data VLAN. When a hub or access point is connected to an 802.1X port (as shown in Figure 60-5), multiauth mode provides enhanced security over the multiple-hosts mode by requiring authentication of each connected client. For non-802.1X devices, MAB or web-based authentication can be used as the fallback method for individual host authentications, which allows different hosts to be authenticated through different methods on a single port.
Multiauth also supports MDA functionality on the voice VLAN by assigning authenticated devices to either a data or voice VLAN depending on the data that the VSAs received from the authentication server.
Release 12.2(33)SXJ and later releases support the assignment of a RADIUS server-supplied VLAN in multiauth mode, by using the existing commands and when these conditions occur:
•The host is the first host authorized on the port, and the RADIUS server supplies VLAN information.
•Subsequent hosts are authorized with a VLAN that matches the operational VLAN.
•A host is authorized on the port with no VLAN assignment, and subsequent hosts either have no VLAN assignment, or their VLAN information matches the operational VLAN.
•The first host authorized on the port has a group VLAN assignment, and subsequent hosts either have no VLAN assignment, or their group VLAN matches the group VLAN on the port. Subsequent hosts must use the same VLAN from the VLAN group as the first host. If a VLAN list is used, all hosts are subject to the conditions specified in the VLAN list.
•After a VLAN is assigned to a host on the port, subsequent hosts must have matching VLAN information or be denied access to the port.
•The behavior of the critical-auth VLAN is not changed for multiauth mode. When a host tries to authenticate and the server is not reachable, all authorized hosts are reinitialized in the configured VLAN.
    NOTE :
•Only one voice VLAN is supported on a multiauth port.
•You cannot configure a guest VLAN or an auth-fail VLAN in multiauth mode.

  • SharePoint 2010 web analytics not working

Hello guys -I have setup a  sharepoint farm, 1 app, 2 wfe (windows server 2008 r2) and sql server 2008 r2 DB. All service applications are functioning except web analytics. I have deleted and recreated again but still have no effect. It is creating
    usage files.
interestingly Central admin site collection web analytics are working but when i check in a web application site collection web analytics report i have the below message. Not sure what I am missing. Can any one help me how to trace the issue:
There is no data available for this report. Here are some possible reasons: (1) Web Analytics has not been enabled long enough to generate data; (2) There is insufficient data to generate this report; (3) Data logging required for this report might
not be enabled; (4) Data aggregation might not be enabled at the level required for this report
    Appreciate your help.
    wm.

    Yes, they are also Started.
To make sure - I have checked off and re enabled usage data collection. Restarted the above services. And also re run the timer job "Web Analytics Trigger Workflows Timer Job
    ". nothing seems helping
I have set diagnostic logiging to Web Analytics Service - verbose both event and trace and observed the below:

  • Web.show_document not working on 10.1.2.0.2 AS

Hey guys. I just recently installed the stand alone AS forms and reports server 10.1.2.0.2.. the reporting functionality is not working...
basically the application uses the reports engine to create a PDF file which is then read by the web.show_document built in. It works on the developer AS, but doesnt work for the forms and reports AS...
the link I am reading the file from looks like this..
    http://<IP ADDRESS>:7777/forms/reports_output/116_rec_jan.PDF
where the "IP ADDRESS" is the IP of the sever, and "/reports_output" is a virtual directory. Do I have the wrong port or something? The file "116_rec_jan.PDF" does exist on the server so I can't see the problem...
Could it be that I dont have adobe reader on my server? Does the AS use the server's adobe reader to read the file or the client side adobe reader? Anyone know whats going on? Thanks for your thoughts.
    Mo

The /forms part doesn't look right to me. Both /forms and /reports_output are virtual directories. I doubt that they resolve stacked on top of each other. Try taking out the /forms part.

  • App Insights for web application not working when deployed to Dev server

App Insights is not sending telemetry data for ASP.NET MVC web *requests* (page views from the JS instrumentation are fine) when the app is deployed to the Dev or Test IIS servers.  On local IIS express it works perfectly fine.    I have
no idea how to troubleshoot this problem.
    Bert Jackson

    - the AI.config file is both in the root of the site, and the /bin folder (which was confusing the other day).  Both are correct.
    - it looks like a local browser can go to https://dc.services.visualstudio.com (it results in a 403 since its just a GET to the root).  During this test, I found that this server did NOT have the Root trust certificate (Baltimore cybertrust), which
would cause problems when using IE locally to browse the app; the javascript AI logging was not working, because it couldnt fetch the ai.0.js file).  I got the proper root certificate installed on the server, but request logging still not working.  I
dont believe the firewall is a problem.
    - I've verified that all binaries are indeed deployed in to the bin folder on the server
    - web.config does have the AI http module; I've verified via logging that the ApplicationInsightsWebTracking is loaded.  However, I have custom Context/Telemetry initializers, and their Initialize() methods are *NOT* being called when deployed on the
server.  I've tried both ways of registering the initializers; via code in the Application_Start() event and also in the ApplicationInsights.config file.
I don't know how to troubleshoot any further, to figure out if AppInsights is actually *trying* to send telemetry out and failing, or if its not actually even trying.

  • Web service not working when called remotely

    Hi there!
I built a simple web service to generate a sequence number to be cosumed by PDF forms.
It works perfecly when I run PDFs on my machine, using localhost, etc.
Whem deployed on the client's servers it does not work. The only difference is the client is running LiveCycle on Linux over their inhouse corporate network.
When the web service is added to forms in LC Designer, the ws structure is built correctly and if called from a web browser the XML response is ok too.
I've checked LiveCycle log file - there's nothing there, the ws is not even being called.
Where should I look for error messages or other resources to aid me in identifying the problem?
Thank you very much for any hints!
