Web Dynpro ABAP Stylesheet - Portal Integration

We have a Web Dynpro ABAP being displayed through a Portal iView.  The Portal server and the Web Dynpro ABAP server are separate.  Our problem is in getting the Web Dynpro ABAP to use the stylesheet of the Portal.
We can make this work by forcing an external stylesheet (via application parameters, global Dynpro settings, or passed on the end of the URL), but we have to hard-code the full URI of the Portal stylesheet.  This would be very hard to manage if we hard-code every iView's CSS location (or set every individual Web Dynpro's application parameters), and we want instead for the Portal to supply whatever the user's stylesheet is dynamically.
So what we want is: if we change the Portal stylesheet, the Portal would just pass the new stylesheet URI to our ABAP Web Dynpro iViews without manual modification of the iViews.
Here is an example of what works:
http://our-abap-server.com/sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/cprojects?sap-ep-themeroot=https://our-portal-server.com/irj/portalapps/com.sap.portal.design.portaldesigndata/themes/portal/ourportalstylesheetname
Shouldn't the Portal iView automatically pass sap-cssurl or sap-ep-themeroot to Web Dynpro ABAP?  We have "Supply Portal Stylesheet" checked on the iView… it just doesn't pass anything to the Web Dynpro ABAP.  Why wouldn't SAP pass this parameter dynamically to the Web Dynpro ABAPs?  Is this a product error?
There seems to be a great deal of confusion about this on the SDN message forums... I think this may be the core issue.
We are using a 7.0 SP13 Portal with an ECC 6.0 SP12 backend.

Now that you mention it, I ran into that exact same issue  -- the application parameters didn't work for hard-coding the theme.  The fix ended up being the web server semicolon thing I mentioned earlier (that was why the parameter didn't make it to the backend).
The themeroot is automatically sent to the backend from the portal, so you shouldn't really have to manually send it as a parameter anyways.
I'd suggest talking to your network guys.  Also this could be the result of the SP you are on (we're on 13 for the portal and the backend system -- maybe this feature doesn't work in some earlier SP's?).  There are also some options to force the theme as a WD application parameter on the backend side, which you could check into.  Details on those are here:
Also you could look at the requests being made by installing HttpAnalyzer in your browser.  You can inspect "post" parameters going from the portal to the backend system.  One of those posts (the first one to the backend system) should contain the parameter sap-cssurl (same kind of thing as sp-ep-themeroot).  This is where our problem turned up as this parameter was not being posted.
Lastly, make sure that your frontend portal and backend portal are in the same domain.  For instance:
frontend.domain.com
backend.domain.com
If your backend and frontend are in different domains it messes all kinds of things up, including stylesheets I think.  If you can't get around this, then read about domain relaxing (but I highly recommend getting the domains the same).
When we started, ours were:
portal.dx.company.com
sap.company.com
This created all kinds of problems.  Putting our systems in the same domain with the same protocol and fixing our little semicolon web server problem fixed basically all of our portal complaints.  Up until that time, we had also had many problems with session management (backend sessions were getting stuck until the HTTP timeout).
That's all I know.   Good luck.

  • Where does Web Dynpro Abap run?

    Hey,
I have a question concerning Web Dynpro Abap: The Portal runs on the AS Java. Web Dynpro Abap is encapsulated in iviews and integrated to the portal. The Abap Backend is linked to the portal via a system specification. As a Developer I do not have to care about the communication between the backend and the portal. Where does the abap web dynpro run? Probably on the linked AS Abap? What happens if the backend is down? Are my other assumptions right?

    Hi,
Though Iam not familiar with Webdynpro java .
Netweaver WAS java is the runtime for Webdynpro Java.
A WDJ can consume SAP functions using adaptive RFC ,so obviously if a WDJ accesses a ABAP function and if the system is down, then a WDJ cannot consume it.
A WDA consumes the data directly from the ABAP system via native ABAP coding so mostly WDA is used for any ABAP based application.
WDJ is used within SAP to produce robust and highly scalable J2EE applications, such as the Employee Self Service (ESS) and Manager Self Service (MSS) and different SAP Portal applications like User and Role management transaction and Universal Work List (UWL).
For your question, consider , even during the initialization of WDJ ,if it tries to access a ABAP function module(but ABAP system is down),it will obviously result in error.
If only a particular button is triggered , WDJ consume a function module(ABAP system is down), I guess WDJ will appear in portal till the button is clicked.

  • Integrating Web Dynpro ABAP application in portal

    Dear experts,
I created a Web Dynpro ABAP application. I need to Integrate it in portal and have to capture portal login id to my application.
Kindly guide me how to integrate WDA in portal and how to capture Portal Logon id in my application.
    Thanks,
    Kind Regards,
    Ram

    Hello ,
It is asking for SAP system user id and password becasue there is no SSO established between portal and the web dynpro system.
Now, either you can establish SSO between portal and the backend system by SAP Logon TIcket or  user mapping.
SSO stands for single sign on.
SSO using SAP Logon Tickets :-
by using this technique you will be able to login into the backend by using SAP logon ticket
issued by the portal system. For this you need to import the .der certificate form the system administration ->system config -->
key ticket store. there download verify.der and upload it in the trusted system list in the backend in the trasaction strust_import.
here is link for this method.
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/EP/LogonTickets,CertificatesandBackend+Certificates.
    SSO using user mapping. :-
For this method you need to map the user in the portal to one user in the backend system.
You can do so by going to user administration in the portal there find the user id with which the user will login.
then go to the user mapping for system access tab there select the system from the dropdown and give user id and password
for the same system save it.
Now when you will login it wont ask for the user id and password.
And after this you can get the portal user id also in  your web dynpro application.
    Thanks

  • Integrating Flex/Flash in Web Dynpro ABAP(Netweaver 7.0) need info!

    Hi all,
I need to embed a flash or a flex object inside a web dynpro abap application.I am working in Netweaver 7.0 and i don't have enhancement pack 1 installed. Is it possible ?   If it is possible can anyone please provide me the coding and configuration details.
    Thanks,
    Saikat

I'm afraid that the SAP supplied integration technology - call FlashIslands - is only available from NetWeaver 7.01 and forward.  You could perhaps do some simple integration (very little data transfer) with the iFrame UI element - although the iFrame is deprecated in 7.0 and 7.01, but does return to full support in 7.02.  The other option would be to use the NetWeaver Portal or NetWeaver Business Client and have two iViews within the page. One iView would have WDA and the other some external technology (BSP, JSP, etc) to host the Flash/Flex content.  Not tight integration, but you could potentially use Portal Eventing to at least communicate events.

  • Integration a Web Dynpro ABAP application within one of my EP overview page

    Hi Experts,
I've got an issue when integrating a Web Dynpro ABAP application within one of my EP overview pages.
We've implemented PLM using the Web Dynpro ABAP scenario for employees. Now Iu2019m trying to integrate this into the Employee Self-Service overview page. I've got no issue to make the icon and area title appears, but when I click on it I get a blank page with Error 404. However when clicking on the link in the navigation bar (Level 2) then I get the page fine. So it looks like EP is not able to integrate correctly the Web Dynpro ABAP into the overview page in EP. Is there any specific Resource configuration?
One more thing is that if I've implemented the same iView using Resources -> Services -> Sub Areas -> Areas everything works fine, but I receive two navigation Levels (Area Group contains the Area Link and when I click it brings me to Sub Area with the single Service Link) I want to avoid this double clicking, calling the application directly from Area Group -> Area link.
Anyone has ever come across that kind of issue? Has anyone ever integrated a WDA application directly into an overview page?

    Hi,
We faced a similar problem with BSPs and had to change the definition of the area link type entry.
I am assuming you have set the area link type to WebDynpro for ABAP and the resource is calling an Iview/page that has the WD ABAP application configured.
To get around the error, change the Area Link type to Calls a Portal page and make sure the resource calls an Iview/Page that has the WD ABAP application configured.

  • Problem with image loading in flex (with web dynpro ABAP integration)

    Hi,
I am working with integration of flex and web dynpro abap. I am facing unusal problem while loading the images. I have the images in the MIME folder of web dynpro application. Since my swf file and all the images that I want to use are in the same folder(MIME), I am accessing them giving just the image name as source for the image in flex.
By this method I get the images sometimes, but not everytime. So could anyone suggest me alternative method.
    Regards

    Edited by: Prashant8809 on Jul 17, 2011 11:56 AM

    Hello Prashant,
you need to mention the full path as source for the image in flex.
ex. if your WD application name is Z_TEMP and image file name in mime folder is 'image.jpg' then you need mention the source in flex as
    http://servername:50001/sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/Z_TEMP/image.jpg
    Hope this solves your problem.

  • Event handling for closing a browser window on portal in web dynpro abap

    Hi,
I am new to portal as well as web dynpro. Is it possible to handle portal events in web dynpro abap? My requirement is whenever a browser window is closed on portal, if any new system messge has been added I want to display them in a pop-up. I checked examples from the package 'SWDP_TEST' but they trigger events in web dynpro and pass them to portal. I want to subscribe to the close event of portal and handle it in my web dynpro abap application. How can I achieve this? Please suggest.

    Hi,
I dont think that you can code to close IE browser window as you cannot access MS IE APIs in WD ABAP. I looked into closing IE browser and got http://p2p.wrox.com/general-net/16588-handling-ie-close-event.html . reading this, it seems the coding can be done in C#(asp) etc.
also refer Closing of IE window
I hope this is useful for you.

  • Web Dynpro Abap popup doesn't display in portal

Hi all.  A wierd issue here.  We have a couple fields within a web dynpro abap application that use search helps.  These search helps work fine when the application is run outside of the portal, but when run within the portal we get a javascript error about a 'null' object.  Any ideas of what may be going on?  I am thinkning there is some security feature suppressing the popup of the search helps.
    Thanks so much...

Good news.  Our basis team fixed the problem.  There were some security settings on our apache server we use that caused the problem.  Thought I would post the fix.  Thanks for replies.

  • Web Dynpro ABAP...to Portal

    Hi Friends,
My question is......is it possible whatever I develop in Web Dynpro ABAP to publish it to portal which is on different server with different SID?
    Thanks,
    Rajeev Sharma.

ABAP WebDynpro are developed on WAS which has ABAP stack. Portal typically has j2ee engine (java stack) and you only create iViews pointing to the ABAP WebDynpro. There is no deployment on portal unless you have ABAP stack on your portal server.

  • Using Portal Theme for a Web Dynpro ABAP Application

    Hello everyone,
I've created a web-dynpro abap application that I display on one of my portal pages using a Web-dynpro iView.
Somehow, the WDA app never reads the portal theme properties and has the default SAP roadshow theme colors. I've tried almost everything including passing the theme as an application parameter using WDTHEMEROOT and WDFORCEEXTERNALSTYLESHEET params.
Documentation states that the application should automatically read the portal's theme, but it never does.
Interestingly, I have one more web-dynpro java application that works fine and uses the portal theme correctly.
Am I missing anything? Are there special considerations for WDA apps to adapt to the current portal theme?
Any ideas, suggestions, solutions would be greatly appreciated.

    >Am I missing anything? Are there special considerations for WDA apps to adapt to the current portal theme?
What are the release and support package levels of both your ABAP system and your portal?  If the ABAP AS has a later release or SP level than the portal, the Web Dynpro framework will always fall back to using the theme of the backend ABAP system.  This is to protect the application rendering.  Running with a theme (CSS and JavaScript) from an older release or support package level could cause the application to render incorrectly.

Most all UI elements can be changed by the Theme Editor.  Not all aspects of each UI element is customizable.  You will need to look through the theme editor to see what all it supports.
You can use the Eclipse Portal Editor (unsupported by SAP) to change the them of WDA applications.

  • How to integrate backend web dynpro abap application in Portal 7.3?

    Hello,
before Portal 7.3 I was able to integrate a web dynpro abap application as iView in the portal. Now I don't get the point on how to do it. I cannot find a "normal" iview that enables me to give the backend and the application name. The possibilty to create iView based on remote source looks strange because I don't want to upload the application I just want to do my normal user/pass mapping and show the applicaton via iView.
Somehow I don't get the point with the new version. Could someone give me a hint where to find more information regardings this problem`?
    Thanks a lot,
      Vanessa

    Hi Vanessa,
Could someone tell me if I should see the SAP Web Dynpro for ABAP iView template in the long list of available templates when I create a new iView?
You will 'SAP Web Dynpro iView' option in the list while creating iview from template.Create and change the property platform to 'Web Dynpro for ABAP'.
Is it correct not to use the remote source option? I think yes because otherwise he would upload the app to the portal, if I am not wrong.
If i understood your question correct, then You can use this option as well to create iview.Atlast it wil create only iview for the application not the application itself in the portal.

  • Web dynpro abap application on Portal does not work via internet access.

    Dear All,
I have created a web dynpro abap application and deployed the same on Portal.
The issue I am facing is that the webdynpro application works fine when the end user logs into Portal from Local Network,
However when the Portal is accessed from outside the local N/W via Internet, Portal is working fine for other applications like ESS

Is this some configuration issue on the portal / abap development or any workaround is possible.

Please try to use the [HTTP Watch 5.0 Basic |http://www.httpwatch.com/download/] tool to trace that WD Application link from the portal and you can easily find out the problem.
