Can't add to library

Did a clean install of Snow Leopard onto an iMac that was running Leopard. All updates done. Had saved iTunes music to an external hard drive. Copied it back into the iTunes folder then did "Add to library" and nothing happens, repeatedly. No error message or anything.
Checked all file permissions - all good. Tried again - nothing.
Tried adding directly from the external drive - nothing. Placed the files in the Automatically Add to iTunes folder - they disappear from that folder but are not added to the library.
Closed everything and reinstalled iTunes with a fresh download. Tried all above steps again, still nothing. And no error messages at any point.
Running OSX 10.6.4, iTunes 9.2, 286 Gb free on the hard drive, 4 Gb RAM.
Any ideas about what's going on? Thanks in advance.
Chris.

you might have to do this:
in finder, right-click on your music folder and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
you may also give everyone read & write access.
the important part is to *apply to enclosed items* !

  • How can I add a library of flash movies to my site?

    I posted this same question on the Dreamweaver forum and a suggestion was made that I try over here for help, so please excuse the duplicate question.
    How can I add a library of flash movies to my site?
    Hey there everyone and thanks for reading my question.
    I have a library of flash movies (specifically a library of maps) and when the map movies are run in Flash they call each other just fine (i.e. the USA map will load the Georgia map when Georgia is clicked on the USA map, etc etc etc for each state).
    HOWEVER, when I insert the USA map in one of my site pages (I'm working on the site using Dreamweaver CS4) the USA map page will load, but when a state is clicked the area on the page for the map goes blank and the state map does not load.
    Short of coding a specific path in each of my state maps (in the Flash editor) is there a way to tell Dreamweaver there is a library of maps, look there for the sub-map?
    and if I do have to code the path to the map, can I code a relative path rather than a specific URL address for the maps?
    I know this is probably one of those simple things, but I'm not seeing it (can you tell I'm new at this??)
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    Frances

    Hey again,
    Thanks for the helpful suggestions. Everyone's comments got me to thinking about what the path was in the calls from the maps.
    here is what finally worked:
    on (release)
    loadMovie("../FlashIMapDownloads/georgia.swf", 0);
    this script code is in the action script for the "georgia" button of my main map - a US Map. (I hope I'm describing all this correctly).
    I'll post this same info in the Dreamweaver forum too.
    Thanks again!

  • How can I add a library asset to a specific master spread?

    Hello! I am new to the forums and rather new to javascript as it relates to indesign so I apologize if this is rudimentary.
    I am building a script that automates new document creation for our company and have run into a problem with placing library assets.
    I want to add a library asset to a specific master page by name, but I cannot find a way to do this.
    I can get assets to place into my document with this:
                var t = app.libraries.item(0);
                var libTapeStrip= t.assets.itemByName('Tape Strip');
                var myTapeStrip = libTapeStrip.placeAsset(myDocument);
    However, the asset is being placed on a master spread that I had previously added to the document. It seems to be the active or front most spread because when the script is complete and I create a new window that spread is what is displayed with the asset on it.
    I would like to place the asset on another master spread, but placeAsset() only accepts documents and text boxes. I have also looked on a way to bring the master spread I want to the front, but cannot find this either.
    If anyone can lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it!!
    Thanks,
    Ben

    @Benjamin – You could make the spread (or the page) where you want to place that asset the "activeSpread" or "activePage", place the asset and then go back to the old active one.
    Something like this:
    (Here I assume that you want to place your asset on a master spread named "A-Master" and the asset is the first in the one and only library file that is open.)
    var myDocument = app.documents[0];
    var myMaster = app.documents[0].masterSpreads.itemByName("A-Master");
    var myLibrary = app.libraries[0];
    var myAsset = myLibrary.assets[0];
    var myOLDActiveSpread = myDocument.windows[0].activeSpread;
    myDocument.windows[0].activeSpread = myMaster;
    myAsset.placeAsset(myDocument);
    myDocument.windows[0].activeSpread = myOLDActiveSpread;

  • How can I "add to library" other people's music

    I recently had some random person pop up in my itunes menu. I tried to select some songs and "add to library" some of his music, but it didn't do anything. Also, how do share random people's libraries like that? Thanks

    You can't. Copying from another person's computer would in most cases be a copyright violation (and definitely when it's someone you don't know) , so it's not possible in iTunes.
    As to why you're seeing those libraries, you're seeing the shared iTunes library from some other computer on your local network. If you don't want to see them any more, go into the iTunes Sharing preference and turn off "look for shared music". If you don't want to similarly be sharing your iTunes library with other computers, make sure that the "Share My Music" option is unchecked.

  • 7.1 Can't add to Library!

    My problem has to do with an iMac, NOT one of the new pentium ones. We use this iMac as our base computer for the household. Attatched to it is a huge music library which exists on a separate hard drive. No problem for iTunes to access that.
    But 7.1 just caused a load of problems.
    Not only, as mentioned in another post, did it duplicate tons of songs (we're talking about going from 10,000 songs to 20,000!), but it also goes into the spinning beach ball everytime I try to add songs to the library.
    I can click on Add to Library, get the browser and find the song, but the minute I choose the song, all I get is the beach ball spinning away. Eventually, I have to force quit.
    I don't know if it will help to cut down the duplicates and shrink the enormous amount of disk space that the library currently uses. I get a "loading iTunes library" window everytime I launch the program and I never got that before.
    Cutting down the huge amount of duplicated music will take time (unless someone knows a short cut), however. And while I do that, there's music I'd like to listen to...but can't because I can't add it to the library.
    HELP!

    New version of itunes solved problem.

  • How can i add a library path for a .dll library?

    hi
    i used a native method (sndPlaySound) in a dll file (winmm.dll).
    then i complided my source successfuly , but in runtime i recieve
    this Exception :
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no winmm.dll in java.
    library.path

    at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Runtime.java:749)
    at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(System.java:820)
    at JNItest.<clinit>(JNItest.java:9)
    i know i must add the library path to the java.library.path but
    i don't find "java.library.path" and don't know what i must to do.
    i am in windows 98 and don't use any IDE (just jdk 1.3.1).
    thank you very much.

    Windows uses the current PATH enviroment variable to search for dlls.
    Windows searches for dlls in the Current directory , the application directory (if the current is not the same) , the PATH variable, then the system directories (Windows, Windows/system)
    It's different in every OS, but if you only care about windows...
    Also try searching on msdn.microsoft.com, they might have more information there.

  • When in iTunes can you "Add to Library" when new folders have been added but not in your library collection

    or will they make duplicates of what is already there? If so, what is the best way to update the library?

    I'm not sure I understand your question.  If a file already exists and you add a second copy of it, it will add it again and you'll have a duplicate.  It has no way of knowing that one copy of the file is identical to the other.  If you add the same file twice it may notice it as the same as one that is already there and ask you about it first.

  • Can't add itunes library to my ipod etc since installing itunes on my new computer. HELP!

    I have just installed itunes on my new PC and am trying to add some songs onto an ipod.  The songs were purchases from the Itunes store.  I go through the process of drag and drop onto the device (its the same with my ipad and iphone) but it won't work.  Since installing itunes on my new computer I have bought an album off itunes and it downloaded with no problems - but any of my old purchases won't transfer over.  Not sure what I am doing wrong.  I haven't as yet transferred over my music libray from my old PC (songs that I burnt )  so not sure if it would be the same.  I would have thought that songs that have been purchased in itunes should easily transfer.  Help please?

    Move the files for your new purchases out to the desktop.
    Migrate your library properly from your old computer as given below.
    Move the files stored on the desktop into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.
    Migrate iTunes Library
    These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
    Backup the library with this User Tip.
    Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
    Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
    Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
    Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
    Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
    I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
    Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
    If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
    Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Got new computer, can't add my library

    How do I get my itunes library on my new computer? I tried to sync my ipod but it's asking me to erase the content. Is there any way around this?

    That's one way. You can also set up windows networking and file sharing, and transfer the files over your home network, or an ethernet crossover cable.
    Just like you would copy ANY file over to your new PC, whether it's digital photos, browser bookmarks, word processing documents, etc. Being music files and itunes doesn't change much about that part.
    The one file that is special to itunes is the database file that holds ratings, playlists, playcounts, etc, that your ipod was syncing to.
    iTunes Library.itl
    Here is an iLounge article on itunes database vs itunes content
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/
    Or you can just start over with a fresh new itunes library.

  • Can't add to library "the streaming server cannot accept

    Had trouble w/ library; uninstall - reinstall Apple for WinXP x86... kep getting this Error message when trying to import Library from a Folder:
    c:\seagate FreeAgent\Jukebox
    Upon initiate... the screen blips to the Internet Music 'genre' and immediately pops up w/ the Server Cannot Accept Connections.
    Upon reload of the application this continues to behave the same. What is the correct version for an XP OS... or what is the problem???
    Thanks in advance,

    Such a message generally means that there's a problem with the streaming server, not with iTunes or with your computer. It may well be that the station you're trying to connect to is just popular and is reaching the limits of the number of users it will allow.

  • Can't add music to library...

    i just recently updated both my itunes on my computer and the software update for my itouch.. both are COMPLETELY UP TO DATE. now itunes wont let me drag and drop music from my computer to my library, nor will it let me add them individually by pressing file > add to library > from folder OR from file. WHAT itunes needs to stop with updates. it was fine how it was. can ANYONE help me? or atleast show me how to get my songs onto my library?

    If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. This makes 1 look and act more like previous versions. Also go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod>Sync your device>Set up syncing>Sync device manually.

  • Can't Add Videos to Library

    Greetings:
    I've followed the instructions and I can no longer get video into my iTunes Library.
    I reformatted them into mp4, tried navigating to them from Add to Library in the File menu, tried dragging and dropping, but nothing happens. I'm using the latest versions of both iTunes and iPod software. I even trashed iTunes and reinstalled it, but nothing happens.
    I had put on a couple of videos when I first got my 5th gen., so I moved them onto my Mac and tried to add them to the iTunes Library and that didn't work either, so I didn't think it's a format problem. I do get the error message that the new videos were't moved because they won't play on my iPod, even though they're in the same format as the ones that do play (MPEG-4). The old files that do play are MPEG-4s but have the suffix m4v. I tried changing the new file suffixes but it didn't help.
    Audio files go in fine.
    Can anyone offer a solution?
    Thanks...

    I have the exact same problem. I have several episodes of a series in .avi format. I used Prism to convert them to .mp4 format (I've done this hundreds of times). For some reason iTunes only lets some of the videos into the library. The others just dont show up. iTunes doesnt say i CAN'T add them (i.e. when i try to drag and drop i get a little plus sign and not the restricted symbol), but none the less it won't actually add them. All the files were converted one after the other using the same conversion software, all in the same session.

  • Can't add video to library
