Web from iMac to iDisk to MBP = Black Curtain draws down!!!!!!!

Hello all
I have an iMac at home from where succesfully created and publish my web page. Recently, I bought a MacBookPro and thought it would be great if I could also edit my page from the MBP from time to time.
I thought the best way to do this was to have the Domain file sit in a place where I could see it from my both machines: i.e. my iDisk.
However, when today I tried to edit my Domain file on iDisk from my MBP, I got an ugly black curtain drawn on me, and a message I needed to restart.
So my questions are
1) Can this or should this not be done
2) Is it better if I simply leave a copy of my Domain file on both my hard drives for editing? The problem here is that changes from one place wont be seen from another and vice versa.
3) What other options do I have?
Thanks
J

What you probably experienced is a kernel panic. The exact cause is a question for another forum
The smart thing to do would be to download the file from your idisk to the Mac you are using, work on it, save it, then copy it back to the idisk. Oh, and make sure you are using the same version if iWeb on all machines.
This is how we do it at work. We never work off the server.

That's a kernel panic and indicates some sort of problem either with the computer's hardware or software. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. It would help to post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic.
Meanwhile, try booting the computers into Safe Mode then restarting normally. If this is simply a disk repair or cache file problem then this may fix it.
You can also try creating a new admin account on each computer then booting into the new account. This would help determine if the problem is related to a bad file in the user accounts.

  • Apple TV blurry black screen when streaming from iMac?

My Apple TV shows a black blurry screen when trying to stream from my 2013 iMac.  ATV works perfectly with iPad/iPhone but not iMac.  Audio from iMac is fine, just no video.  Both products are entirely up to date as far as software goes and restarting both + wifi hasn't achieved any results.  Any **** would be appreciated, thanks.

I've found out it is an Mavericks 10.9.2 and 10.9.3 failure! Online I have found more people with the very same Problem, and all of them are running 10.9.2/3  - ON THEIR IMACS (different Models)!
My Apple TV and Streaming Services were functioning just fine 2-3 Monts ago, the only thing that changed was Updating my iMac Mid 2011 to 10.9.2 -> Then i've got the black screen when streaming, could not activate DisplayMirroring, when i played something in itunes or VLC the sound went through AppleTV but no video.
Then have checked it with iPad 2 = OK, iPhone 5 = OK, MBP Early 2008 with SnowLeopard = OK,
so i decided to Install an 10.9 on an external drive - and guess what? It works! Tried to Update (ComboUpdate) to 10.9.1 and it was still OK, got the BLACK SCREEN after ComboUpdate 10.9.2, and tried to Install 10.9.3 just to see if it will solve the problem -> NOT
    this must be a joke!

Unplug any peripherals you have except your keyboard, reboot, and check activity monitor for apps.  Keep running apps to a minimum to find the App causing the issue.

  • Migrating Aperture library from iMac to MBP

OK, I figured out how to get stuff from my desktop to my MBP through Airport, but I'm wondering about the best way to do this with my Aperture library. On y MBP I have Aperture 2 installed. On the iMac is a library of thousands of images on Aperture 1.2. What's the best way to get that library over to the laptop and in Aperture 2?

    Hi Tamandra;
I can tell you that the format of the Aperture library changed between 1.2 and 2. I have never tried what you are asking to do. My suggestion would be to repost in Aperture Forum. Someone over there should know what to do for sure.

  • Lost my Iphoto 09 when trying to get my library moved from imac to MBP

    YIKES...How to begin???
I've lost my iphoto 09 when trying to copy my library from my iMac G5 to my mbp. When I did the migration using migration assistant the photos had not come over. So, I connected the imac to the mbp using a firewire cable, and tried the drag and drop it looked like it went over, but then when i disconnected the imac, there was nothing. Even the iPhoto icon disappeared. I tried reinstalling it with the Applications Install DVD which came with my MBP, but it doesn't have iphoto on it.
Am I going to have to buy a copy of iLife???
Does anyone have any idea what may have happened???
My photos and my music are my most important items on my computer; I did get all the music very successfully, but photos........NOT. HELP, please.
    thanks, lisel

Have you looked in your applications folder to see if iPhoto is there?

What did you try to drag and drop - the iPhoto library - the iPhoto program ???

If iPhoto came on your computer it is on the restore disk that came with it - do a custom install of bundled software only - click here for MacWorld's article on installing Applications from your restore disks.

  • Sharing Internet Connection from iMac to MacBook Pro

I've arrived home for the holiday from university and, of course, brought my MacBook Pro home with me. My family does not have a wireless Internet connection as I do at uni, but they do have an iMac connected to a cable modem via ethernet. So I have enabled Internet connection sharing on the iMac and told the iMac not to sleep unless it is inactive for 3 hours (it gets used frequently enough that this shouldn't be a problem, and the computer can go into sleep mode at night). The iMac screen is set to turn off after about 20 minutes, to save energy.
The iMac's sharing is via AirPort and it has a WEP password. I use my MacBook Pro's AirPort card to connect to the iMac's connection. Unfortunately, after about 20-30 minutes of using the wireless on the MBP, the safari web browser claims that I am not connected to the Internet and the AirPort card gets a "self-assigned" IP address. The solution is to restart the MBP.
Why is this happening, and is there anything I need to do on either of the computers to fix the problem? Both computers are running 10.5.1 with all security updates installed. It's frustrating having to constantly restart the computer when I'm using the Internet.

My problem is similar. I'm trying to do internet share from iMac G5 (w/ iSight) to MacBook Pro, both running 10.5.1. The iMac is connected to dsl/router via ethernet, and I'm trying to internet share to MBP via airport. I cannot establish connection, even though airport shows full strength signal. I checked password over and over and over, and that seems fine. But Network preference panel shows airport to have self-assigned IP.
I tried internet share from iMac to MBP via firewire, but that did not work either.
On a (un)related? note, I used to be able to share screen, but only in one direction. I could control the iMac from my MBP, but never the other way around despite the fact all the firewall and sharing is set identical. Now, even though in both computers I have the other computer showing up in the sidebar of the Finder, screen share and file share fails. I just don't know what happened!

  • How can I access my iCloud account on the web from my phone

how can I access my iCloud account on the web from my phone
    iPhone 5 iOS 8.3
I have iCloud turned on, location services on, find my phone works but when I try to access iCloud via Safari on the phone it takes me to a page Apple.com,
    iCloud then three options
set up iCloud on my phone (i have)
Install Find my phone, it is installed and it works from my MBP
or install find my friends, I don't need that I have no friends.
my calendars and contacts and bookmarks and all are all sync'd and working on the phone, but i thought if I typed in iCloud.com on the phone in Safari I would go to my iCloud web page that looks like this on my Mac.
Is that NOT how iCloud should/would look on my phone via Safari?
This is maybe a dumb question after 3+ year of iPhone'ing
thank you for clarifying or helping me to understand

I've been playing with a Galaxy here at work and here's what I've found so far - please feel free to jump in and suggest alternative methods to configure or access the various icloud components.
So the original Q: Can you access your icloud account on Android?
Not entirely: the website can't be used from an android browser (not properly - even with Dolphin HD and posing as different browsers it won't load correctly.  So Find my iphone is out, so is the address book or looking at your e-mail or calendar just in a browser window
I was able to setup my e-mail using the IMAP settings published here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
Be sure to setup the account manually - and note if you have trouble using SSL try TLS (that worked for me)
Address book is a no go so you'll have to use iTunes to sync all your contacts over to Gmail - if you still have an iPad it means managing contacts in two places though .  Same goes for your calendar - transfer it to Gmail and forget about iCloud's calendar.  Nice instructions here: http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-20064060-285/how-to-switch-from-iphone-to-an droid/
iWork is an Apple proprietary bit so don't expect much there.
So in my case, if I'm really going to make the switch to a Galaxy from my iPhone it really means I'm going to have to switch to using google as the backend.  The timing to swap over to a galaxy/android phone is not the greatest - given that I'd have to give up my Apple addiction (syncing photos and itunes and losing access to my device tracking).  Plus I still have an iPad and a mac and like living in the Apple ecosystem.  I think I'll wait and see what the new iPhone looks like before I commit

  • Tranfer from imac to ibook

I am unable to transfert my web site (iweb) from imac to ibook. How can I transfer my hard drive from one mac to the other. This should solve the question as I want to transfer my outlook also and unable to do so. Am in a rush. Have to catch a plane . Many thanks as this is kind of an emergency

    Hi Melanie
I haven't come across that problem before. It sounds like you're following all the right steps, and you're logging in to the other computer with the right credentials, so I'm not sure what the issue is.
However, providing that you're using an admin login, you can connect either way (iMac to iBook or iBook to iMac) to transfer files. An admin login will allow you to mount the entire hard drive of the other computer; an ordinary user login will only be able to access their own home folder. So if iMac --> iBook works for you, you can still copy files to the iMac that way. Make the connection, browse in the mounted iBook's folders, and copy across the files you want.

  • Save to Web from Illustrator CS2

Hi, whenever I try to do a "save for web" to a PNG directly from Illustrator, all text and image become pixilated. I have to open the same AI file from Photoshop in order to generate a rendered image. Can I save to "rendered" PNG directly from Illustrator?
    Glenn

Yes, I understand. I can save my AI to PNG directly from Illustrator. However, there's no "anti-aliasing method" applied to neither the text and image so they appear like straight lines and dots instead of a "rendered" image. For example, given a diagonal line in black color. When I use "save for web", I can only see black on the line and there's no gray scale along the line that makes it more smooth. That goes the same for anything else.
I have to open the AI file in Photoshop and then do a "save for web" from there and everything appear smooth.
Not sure if this is clear enough. Please help!

  • My iMac 27inch screen keeps going black but everything is still running in the background? please help

My iMac 27inch screen keeps going black but everything is still running in the background? please help. I have read that apple are recalling 27inch iMacs....

    Hello @DesCherryBomb,
I understand that you are having issues with your HP 2310m monitor going blank and/or flickering. I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. • Transfer large file from iMac to MBA

I just downloaded Lion to my iMac. Now want to transfer it to MacBook Air before I open it on the iMac. Working from iMac; 4G thumb drive says not enoough room. iDisk not big enough. Tried to transfer via wifi (time capsule) by draging from iMac app folder to the MBA that shows up in the shared label in the side bare and get a message saying ""... can't be moved because Geoffrey Kloster's MacBook Air can't be modified. File sharing is on in both computers.
Tried going other way (working through MBA) but can't get to the iMac. Remote disk shows the remote computer with a note "waiting for disk drive..."
It took 11 hours to download so I'd really like to transfer from one Mac to the other. How can I do it?
    Thanks
    Geoff

Step one is to get a larger flash drive. Since you bought an MBA with limited connection capability—no FireWire or ethernet, your options are limited.

  • My imac (20 inch) screen  went black

hi, i'm a teen and have been a proud user of my imac (20 inches) but after a year or two of use my imac screen just went blank and stopped working.. the computer would switch on but the screen was always black... I went to the apple store and they said i would have to replace the whole thing.. i am dissapointed that my imac which cost almost $2,000 was faulty.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions...
i am dissapointed that my imac which cost almost $2,000 was faulty.
Maybe it's not the display.... hard to believe an iMac display would be defective in that amount of time.
    Try Resetting the PRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the SMC
If that didn't make a difference, boot from your install disc (gray labeled disc that came with your iMac)
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*

  • Duplicating/syncing iTunes from iMac to MacBook Pro

Just got a MacBook Pro.  Using iTunes at home on my iMac (music and movies).  I don't buy music or movies from the iTunes store but rip both music (from my own CDs) and movies (from my DVDs).
Is there anyway to duplicate the content of my iTunes on my iMac to my new MBP?  I also have a iPhone4S which has the same music content.  Would syncinig my iPhone 4S to the MBP at least allow transfer of the music?

The easiest way is to share the disk on your old computer, and then use the migration assistant to transfer the music.  You'll find some advice here:
