Web Map Services - Geoserver Interaction with Java

I am working on a Java Applet, which makes use of a WMS (geoserver), which displays a specified map and then manipulates it to however is desired (zooming, panning etc). I mainly just want to know if anyone knows much about this and any techniques that can speed up the response time of the geoserver queries, so the applet is at a much more practical speed and better to use.
An example of the problem is, that when the user clicks the zoom in button, it takes about 5 seconds for it to respond with the zoomed in map as it constructs the query, and then sends it off to geoserver which then responds with the newly constructed image. It is vital that the speed of the this is as fast as possible.
Basically we just need faster response time.
Any help would be fantastic.

There might be a way to get more bandwidth or higher priority from the geoserver, but you would have to ask the service provider about that. Otherwise, do some profiling and come back here - there are few general recipes for "making things faster", if any; a detailed look is required.

  • Mapping editor not working with Java 5 classes

    I have a small protoype web service which I wrote using Tomcat/Axis/Spring/Hibernate and using EJB3 annotations for the mappings. I want to port the persistence layer to Toplink.
    I installed Toplink 9.0.4.1 and added the toplink libraries to my project and implemented the DAO and the spring bean defs.
    I opened the mapping editor and created a project. When I try to add classes to it for mapping I get an error that it can't find the classes (even though I selected them from the chooser). I figured it might be that they were compiled with Java 5, so I switched the JRE_HOME in setenv.cmd to my Java 5 JRE. Now I can import the classes and see the attributes but when I click on any of them in the Navigator panel, the editor panel remains blank. If I now try to save, I get:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
         at oracle.toplink.workbench.ui.tools.CheckListModel.getRowCount(CheckListModel.java:119)
         at javax.swing.JTable.checkLeadAnchor(JTable.java:2949)
         at javax.swing.JTable.tableChanged(JTable.java:2993)
         at javax.swing.JTable.setModel(JTable.java:2827)
         at oracle.toplink.workbench.ui.tools.CheckList.initialize(CheckList.java:47)
         at oracle.toplink.workbench.ui.tools.CheckList.<init>(CheckList.java:26)
    It seems that the mapping workbench doesnt work with Java 5. What should I do?

    Ah, I see. I saw another post here stating that must use 10.1.3.

  • Help needed in developing web map service for mobile devices

    please can any one help me(with source code if possible) for developing the web map service client for mobile devices in J2ME.

    There are a couple of ways you could do this. Bluetooth communication is available on a few J2ME devices, so you could do it through that. Or you could set up a servlet on the J2SE app end and send the data over the internet (check out HttpConnection). I'm not sure of any other quick and easy methods.

  • Allow service to interact with desktop

    Hi,
    DC OS - Windows Server 2008 R2 Std
    Client OS - Windows XP, Windows 7
    I have implemented Security policy through Network Policy Server and enabled Wired AutoConfig Services Automatically. While Enabling Wired AutoConfig Services, if i check mark on ' Allow service to interact with Desktop ' It works proper in some of Window7
    Laptop.
    But on internet it is giving me Warning that "Interactive services can display a user interface and receive user input. If you allow the service to interact with the desktop, any information that the service displays on the desktop will also be displayed
    on an interactive user's desktop. A malicious user could then take control of the service or attack it from the interactive desktop."
    Can you give me some example how Malicious User can take control of the service or attack it from the interactive desktop?
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,
    By default, services use a noninteractive window station and cannot interact with the user. However, an interactive service can display a user interface and receive user input. Once LocalSystem account (a services running in an elevated security context)
    creates a window on the interactive desktop, any other application that is running on the interactive desktop can interact with this window. That is, this exposes the service to any application that a logged-on user executes.
    Then it will be very dangerous.

  • Web Service Wizards crash with java.lang.StackOverflowError

    Hi there!
    I'm desperately trying to integrate some Web Services into our Java project developed with NWDS 2.0.7 / WebAS 6.40. Unfortunately every time I try to create Virtual Interfaces or a Web Service within the Web Service Perspective, nothing happens.
    When I use File/New/Other/Web Service (New VI and WSD) the whole Developer Studio simply crashes with a java.lang.StackOverflowError.
    I restarted from scratch with a new project in a different workspace and everything went fine. So I think it's not a problem with my installation but with the project's configuration I want to create the Web Services in. Perhaps it's something to do with the .classpath or the such?
    Do you have any idea where I can start looking into for getting any hints, what's going wrong here?
    I've added a Configuration Details output for reference below. Any help is greatfully appreciated!
    Best regards,
       Frank

  • 11G: Error invoking adf-binding service in composite with JAVA API

    Hello,
    i'm trying to invoke a asyncrhonous composite via JAVA API. My composite has two services: WS and ADF-BC SERVICE both of two are wired with a MEDIATOR that connects with two BPEL Process depending on two rules.
    I need to invoke a process depending of the input: if the input is A i invoke the process 1 and if the input is B I invoke the process 2. I use the Mediator instead of switch because it's an example in order to build a complex decission system then.
    R1 and R2 are two static rules in the Mediator.
    R1 = $in.payload/client:process/client:tiposiniestro = 'A'
    R2 = $in.payload/client:process/client:tiposiniestro = 'B'
    And my XSD is:
    <schema attributeFormDefault="unqualified"
         elementFormDefault="qualified"
         targetNamespace="http://xmlns.oracle.com/POC_jws/ProcesoApertura/ProcesoApertura"
         xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
    <element name="process">
              <complexType>
                   <sequence>
                        <element name="tiposiniestro" type="string"/>
                   </sequence>
              </complexType>
         </element>
         <element name="processResponse">
              <complexType>
                   <sequence>
                        <element name="result" type="string"/>
                   </sequence>
              </complexType>
         </element>
    </schema>
    If i invoke with SOAP, sending the message:
    <soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
         <soap:Body xmlns:ns1="http://xmlns.oracle.com/POC_jws/ProcesoApertura/ProcesoApertura">
              <ns1:process>
                   <ns1:tiposiniestro>A</ns1:tiposiniestro>
    </ns1:process>
    </soap:Body>
    </soap:Envelope>
    the composite works. But if i try to invoke with JAVA, with the code:
    String payload5 = "<process xmlns=\"http://xmlns.oracle.com/POC_jws/ProcesoApertura/ProcesoApertura\">" +
         "     <tiposiniestro>A</tiposiniestro>" +
         "</process>";
    String conversationId = UUID.randomUUID().toString();
    NormalizedMessage nm = new NormalizedMessageImpl();
    nm.addProperty(NormalizedMessage.PROPERTY_CONVERSATION_ID, conversationId);
    Map<String,Object> payload = nm.getPayload();
    payload.put("payload", pPayLoad);
    nm.setPayload(payload);
    service.post(pOperation, nm);
    i get the following error:
    Caused by: java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String cannot be cast to org.w3c.dom.Element
    How can I send the message via JAVA API using the mediator in my composite?
    Is there any important difference in the format between send a request with SOAP or JAVA?
    Thanks in advance.

    Talking about the dynamic rules in the Mediator, Oracle documentation says:
    "As of now, only SOAP bindings are supported. There is a dummy SOAP binding in the composite.xml file. This endpoint is overridden by Mediator in runtime through NM property. So, outbound services can be called only over SOAP."
    Is it valid for static rules as well? I means, how can i use Java API to invoke a Composite with a Mediator as first element? I always get the message:
    +"java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String cannot be cast to org.w3c.dom.Element"+
    Thanks again

  • Enterprise Services - Architecture - Interaction with ECC

    Can someone please link to architectural docuementation for Enterprise Services which explains how NW PI interacts with ECC?

    Hi Jesse,
    > I've already searched and not found what I was looking for
    Which means you haven't used proper keywords. PI and ECC integration (using proxy, RFC, Idoc etc) is well documented and I am surprized to know that you weren't able to find it.
    >So you should assume that the poster has already searched.
    Nope. This is very common for people to do "Crowd-sourcing" and "do-my-job" and post question without searching (or rather lazy search) and that's why moderators are there
    Let me give you few keywords for search.
    ECC Proxy PI  = Proxy connection between PI and ECC (provider as well consumer)
    ABAP Proxy PI = same as above
    SWF_BAM  = Business Event triggering outbound services
    Still you won't be able to find then read following:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/c0e7ae66-be6d-2a10-d385-92e6e67dee10

    >If you have links, please do share, but please do not again reply to anyone's post with, "Go search."
    Sorry if you are looking for spoon-feeding then you are asking at wrong place. I can only help you with some basics and then you need to figure things out by yourself and "one-liner" question won't help either.

  • AIR interaction with Java

    Hi,
    I have a question that is bugging me for a few days. Can an
    AIR application communicate with Java classes ( let's say classes
    that are using Hibernate).
    Thanks in advance,
    Theo

    you might want to have a look at the merapi project:

  • Web Service: Sender Channel with JAVA client (Apache Axis)

    Hello to all,
    I am trying to connect an Axis-based Java client to XI via the SOAP adapter.
    When connecting, the client receives the error message "Unauthorised" - it seems as if it cannot handle the basic HTTP authentication.
    Can I easily disable this authentication mode in XI (or better: in this adapter)?
    Or does anybody know how to implement the authentication in the Axis framework?
    Many thanks and best regards,
    Carsten

    Carsten,
    AFAIK, you must provide the credntials to access the service on XI. Follow the section <b>Call configuration</b> on this link
    http://ws.apache.org/axis/java/client-side-axis.html.
    you basically need to properties with the Call method as explained in the link.

    This is repeated many times in the log. It manages to create some indexes, but eventually it shuts down the DAC windows service
    In the windows event viewer we then see this at 11-11-2008 16:
    "The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of 10, the service is being stopped."
    My guess is that we need to allocate more memory to the DAC Java VM, but how/where?
    Any ideas?

    We have managed to work around the problem, by changing the DAC Sytem Property (under Setup): CreateQueryIndexesAtTheEnd from true to false. This way, indexes are being rebuilt during the load - not at the end. This has helped in getting the execution pla to finisf succesfully. We are now working on how to increase Java heap memory of the DAC Server, when started as a windows service. We have installed a windows service to stop and start the DAC serve,r using a document by Olivier Lemaire from Oracle.
    Does anyone have experiences on this?

    java Heap memory in DAC can be increased from the Client Side .
    Open the file for editing----startclient
    echo off
    title Siebel DAC Client
    call config.bat
    Rem Uncomment the below if you want to see a DOS window with messages.
    Rem and comment out the JAVAW line.
    Rem
    Rem %JAVA% -Xms256m -Xmx1024m -cp %DACCLASSPATH% com.siebel.analytics.etl.client.view.EtlViewsInitializer
    Rem
    start %JAVAW% -Xms256m -Xmx1024m -cp %DACCLASSPATH% com.siebel.analytics.etl.client.view.EtlViewsInitializer
    edit 1024 and increase the heap memory sizee,this should work.We faced a similar issue and increasing the size of the java memory solved the issue.
    Let me know if this is solved

    Are you sure there is not another web analysis web application process running, have you checked the processes running on the machine, you may have to kill or stop one of them to release the lock.
    Cheers

  • Problem with java and flex web service

    Hi,
    I have a basic web service written in java using jax ws 2.1
    ri. I need to call it from Flex using the WebService class
    Annotations for the java web method :
    @WebMethod
    public void Login(
    @WebParam(name="server") String serverURL,
    @WebParam(name=AUTHENTICATE_HEADER,header=true,mode=WebParam.Mode.INOUTHolder<Authenticate Header>
    authHeader)
    When I try and call the service from Flex , it can't find the
    login method and attempts to call it fail. If I set the web service
    to RPC based using @SOAPBinding , the method is found but then
    there are issues with the authentication header.
    What do I need to do to get flex web services communicating
    succesfully with java ?
    Are there are any known compatibility issues ? Or guidelines
    for going about this ?
    Any help would be appreciated

    well Shay,
    i've used JDev's tools to developer and to deploy the web service: the war and ear files are automatically generates you to the end of the process.
    I have included all the files java and the compiled classes, but I do not have files jar.
    But don't works: if i create only one java class with all code inside then it works fine!!

  • Intermittent problem in Coldfusion 9, BlazeDS with Java Service class and CFCProxy

    If that title doesn't scare you, you might be able to help.
    I believe there is a bug in Coldfusion 9's version of CFCProxy.
    Tech Stack:
    Flex Application
    BlazeDS (stock with CF9)
    Java Service class (java-amf BlazeDS endpoint)
    Coldfusion business tier, invoked by the Java Service class using CFCProxy

    Attempts to diagnose:
    These things remove the problem:
    CF8 works perfectly with the identical code, never fails.
    Calling the same Coldfusion CFC method with the large query (10 fields, 1000+ records returned) from another CFC 100+ times never fails.
    Using a Coldfusion service class (a "my-cfamf" BlazeDS endpoint) never fails. However, we need to use a Java service class because we are using ~40 Java value objects (VOs) that correspond to ~40 auto-generated Actionscript VOs. BlazeDS won't correctly deserialize the Actionscript VOs into the Java VOs with a Coldfusion service class.
    If I replace the large query with a Sleep(5000) instead, it never fails.
    These things don't remove the problem:
    Using the latest Microsoft JDBC driver doesn't help.
    Even if the Coldfusion method returns an empty resultset (i.e., just calls the query and doesn't do any other work or return anything), the call still fails intermittently.
    If the Coldfusion CFC with the method in question is instantiated and stored in SERVER scope as a singleton across multiple requests with CFCProxy, doesn't help.
    Different large (1000+ record queries) all fail in the same way.
    Caching the query doesn't help
    Changes in the datasource configuration doesn't help
    Using the older version of BlazeDS doesn't help
    With all of these tests, I believe it comes down to a problem in the combination between CFCProxy and large queries. There may be more to it, but that is what we've narrowed it down to.
    Any insight would be very welcome.

  • Which is the Affordable Java Web Hosting Services?

    Hi,
    I am Indie Game Developer and have just developed my first game. It is in Java and is a client - server based game.
    I need to buy a good but affordable Java Web Hosting Plan but I could not find much to my liking. I don't need too much space (like 5GB), a couple of hundred MB's would be fine.
    Does anybody know about an affordable, good Java Web Hosting service? Please let me know if you know.
    Thanks.
    Niteen Hatle

    SoulTech,
    Thank, for replying. I think the couple of hundred MB's I've mentioned is too much. I have searched the internet for more Java web hosting services.
    It seems Java web hosting is costlier than the normal web hosting services. So I have to separate the company website from the game server site.
    Let's see what comes up in my search. If someone has any suggestion about a web hosting service with java support, if they have used it, then please let me know.
    Thanks.

    Say the action is "send email". Then every time an insert/update/delete occurs then an email is sent. That would obviously slow down those operations a lot. Not to mention that if 1000 inserts occur then someone is going to get 1000 emails.
    There can be alternatives that are much better.
