Web page music loads in IE but not Firefox. Have downloaded Windows Media Player Firefox plug in but still nothing. Any other suggestions?

Can't get any sound when I open one webpage in Firefox but sound works in Internet Explorer. sound files are .wmv and mp3 format.
I have Windows Media Player Firefox Plug in installed and set to always activiate. Also have Quicktime & Shockwave activated. Any suggestions. Operating system is Windows 7. Thanks

There are a couple issues here that might be the culprit. One is that the player is hidden using a variety of techniques and Firefox often suppresses hidden content because it can be annoying not to be able to control your experience with media. Another possible issue is that the embed tag doesn't specify a content type. Firefox appears to be guessing anyway, and in my case asking whether to activate the QuickTime plugin, but then nothing plays.
To test what would happen if both of those were addressed, you can run this script using Firefox's Web Console. It grabs the address of the media and creates a new embed that is visible and specifies the content type. Here's how to use it:
Select the following long line of code and copy it:

When viewing the problem page, press Ctrl+Shift+k to open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab.
Paste the code next to the caret (>>) on the bottom line and press Enter to run it. A player should appear in the upper left corner, the progress bar should show downloading and then the content should play.
Obviously it's not practical to hack every web page you find, but if this is your site or you would be interesting in contacting the owner, hopefully this post will help in getting this working in Firefox.

Thanks, but again, I'm either missing something or Firefox is being finicky. I play videos on Apple.com just fine thru Firefox, so the QuickTime plugin is apparently working. Of course, I didn't try every video on Apple.com so it's possible I picked the few that worked. And with some serious massaging I've actually been able to get Firefox to play low resolution .mp4 videos. Videos rendered at 256x144 display in the HTML5 video player in Firefox. Videos rendered at resolutions greater than 256x144 do not display in Firefox. At least, these are the results I'm getting....I suspect others may be getting different results.
This isn't a file size thing because a 512x288 .mp4 video is actually less than 1/2 the size of the lower resolution 256x144 .mp4 video, and yet Firefox does not display a 512x288 .mp4 video.....again, for me anyway. This is beyond confusing, but thanks for the suggestions. You are correct - Firefox does NOT support .mp4 videos (most resolutions) in the HTML5 video player....for some unknown reason!

Windows media player extension is installed but does not pass the plugin test...what do I do now?

I followed the instructions to install the Microsoft Media Player Extension in order to be able to listen to the radio in the Youtube Toolbar. I can sync media files from Windows Media Player to my ipod, but the information will not show up on my ipod. Why?

I HATE using iTunes (it's a pain in the bleeping arse) so, despite what someone from Apple told me, I tried to sync a song from Windows Media Player onto my ipod. The sync appears to be successful, and yet when I ejected my ipod to check to see if the song was on there, it was not. Why? And how do I get it on there? I want to avoid using iTunes at all costs.

Try MediaMonkey or Winamp. Unlike Windows Media Player which will just blindly throw the files onto the iPod's hard drive these two at least (there may be others) know that they have to update the device's database if you are going to be able to access the content that has been added.

MS Windows Media player Firefox plugin 1.0.0.8 is installed still after upgrade from FF 3.5. to FF4, but it does not work anymore on Windows 7. The player buttons doesn´t show up. However, it works on WinXP after the same upgrade.

Windows 7 professional with Windows Media Player 11 and WMP plugin for Firefox 4 doesn´t work, but on WinXP it does work normally with the same plugin version after upgrade to FF4.

You should import the music (that is listed in Windows Media Player) into your iTunes Library - on your computer - to add it to your existing iTunes Library. I take it you have moved (or copied) your music from the old computer to the new computer, haven't you?
Then Sync your iPod to that Library.
iPods will not respond to Windows Media Player, they're designed to connect to iTunes.

Not able to open Windows Media Player files with Quicktime Pro

Hi,
I have recently downloaded a couple of videos that I am planning to use in FCP. The file extension of the downloaded videos is .asf and I am able to play them with Windows Media Player. However, to use them in FCP I have to convert them into Quicktime format. I have Quicktime Pro version 7.0.4 and I was told that I should be able to open the files in Quicktime therefore automatically converting them into quicktime files. It's not working and I am completely out of options and ideas.
Please help if you ever had that problem.

As I understand it M$ is providing additional distribution as a sort of "seal of approval."
Don't forget WMV/WMA is a proprietary codec from M$ and involves licensing. In that sense they're providing resources. Apparently the Flip4Mac folks are actually building it themselves though.
Think of it as being in the construction business and you're required to buy the lumber from only one source but you still have to build the house yourself.

Hello. I'm usin Aurora 7.0a2 and Firefox 5 web browsers. The Windows Media Player 11 plug in doesn't work in Aurora, but it does in Firefox 5. Should I change something in the configuration of Aurora? or just wait a new upgrade?. Thank you very much.

Since loading Firefox I can no longer access video replays on Windows Media Player. I get a message saying the material has downloaded but that it can't be played for reasons that are not correct

I have been playing the video replays from Lone Star Park for years with no problem. I loaded Mozilla Firefox and now I can no longer access the replays. I had the same problem and I found this answer to a similar question to ours, so I copied and pasted it for you
Reset the device by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time for approximately 10 seconds. After it resets the message will be gone and you can go to settings > icloud and put in your password.
That seems to be a bug with the password alert where it won't respond correctly sometimes.

In order to see media on several web pages, it says I need to download plugin Windows media player v. 11. Windows 7 on computer has Windows media player 12. Is this going backwards or or these 2 separate things, i.e. program vs plugin?

Using Windows Media Player, but my phone automatic...

Sorry the description is so confusing.
I have used Windows Media player successfully several times to transfer music to my Nokia 7510.
However, now whenever I plug into my computer, rather than allowing me to choose from 3 options, one of which is "PC suite" another "Media," and I'm not sure the third, it automattically chooses PC Suite. This makes it impossible to download songs.
How can I make it so that I have these three choices at the beginning again?

Windows Media Player for Windows 7 corupted and will not open

My Windows media player was working until just recently I got this Notice.
The file wmploc.dll has version number of 12,0,7601.18150 where 12,0,7601,17514 was expected.
Windows media player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.
Do you want to install the player from Microsoft web SIte? I have gone to web site and it will not download.
For Windows 7 Home Premium. the download says that my computer in no combatable.

In addition to the solutions provided by Balaji Kundalam, you can also try this,
If you have any other 3 rd party music player installed, I suggest you uninstall them first, cause some 3 badly code program can cause the corruption of WMP, then go to Control Panel\Programs and features\Turn Windows Feature on or off, scroll down
to Media Feature, untick it, restart your PC, then go to the same place, re-tick this option, restart PC.
If for some reason the re-installation of WMP is not clean, once uninstalled, try go to %ProgramFiles% (and %ProgramFiles(x86)% for 64-bit OS) folder, and delete the Windows Media Player folder.
