Web Service in 6.20 - SICF/Logon Information

Hello all.  Hopefully I am putting this question into the correct area.
We are currently running on a WAS 6.20/SAP 4.7 environment.  I have created an RFC and found the WSDL for this module.
In a 6.40 environment, I was able to generate the Proxy and call the Web Service successfully.  I did get a prompt to login to the 6.20 system.
We need to be able to secure this web service because it is going to contain HR Data such as SSN#s and Credit Card Numbers.  What is the best way to call this web service to avoid having to manually enter the user id and password?
Thanks,
Chris

Raja,
Thanks for the response.  Our requirements for this have changed since I have posted my message.
Originally they were going to try and use a 6.40 ABAP system for this call.  Now they are going to develop this application in a non-SAP java environment.  So now I think it gets a little more difficult.  I have looked at the links you sent me and found some additional information so here are some follow up questions.
1.  I have looked at using X.509 certificates.  Is it possible to have a certificate that is assigned to just this particular RFC that is going to be called as a Web Service?  I don't want to assign it to the entire 6.20 environment due to the nature of the data?
2.  The RFC Web Service is going to be called in a background process.  So there will not be a user manually running this.  Is there anything I need to consider for this?
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.
Chris

  • Updating Logon Data for Web Service in SICF not possible

Hello, hopefully someone can help me with my problem.
I have created a custom Web Service based on a custom Z Function Module.
This all works fine in our Development environemnt. I was able to go into SOAMANAGER and generate the end point. This created the web service in SICF. I was then able to go into SICF and change the logon data to use our service ID.
    All tested and functionaing great.
We then transported everything to QAS. I again went into SOAMANAGER to generate the End Point, and this worked fine, we have the web service now visible in SICF.
The problem now occurs when I go into SICF and try go into change mode to enter the service user in the logon data tab. I get a popup message stating :
"You cannot use this transaction to change the service."
When I click on the long text explanation I get:
    "Message SHTTP824
You cannot use transaction SICF to modify this service.
This means that only the application has the authorization to use the defined interface to modify this service."
Does anyone know how to get around this ? Or how to define our logon data using SOAMANAGER ?
    thanks
    Adrian

the right way to transport logon info along with SICF service is to create an external alias for your BSP and maintain the logon info in the external alias.
other wise you have to open the production system for changes and change it , which may not be allowed.

  • How do I use the Web Services API to query orders?

The help doc states, "you can retrieve details for purchases including products purchased, payments received, and their status." The only additional info is at the link to eCommerce-Related Web Service, which does not include any information about retrieving "products purchased, payments received, and their status."

Hey if you read over that again you have two links, the other is this one:

  • How to access the Web Service Browser

    Hi,
I need to access the Web Service Browser to generate a Web Service Description.
    How can I do it?
    I use the follow url:
    http://<host_name>:<port_number>/sap/bc/bsp/sap/WebServiceBrowser/search.html?sap-client=<relevant_client>
but I can't say how to determine values for the three placeholders.
    Help me please.
    THANKS

    Hi Andrea,
you can access the web services in sap transaction SICF. Then right click on the
service and choose "test". The hostname is the host on where the sap system
    runs.
The port ´number can be seen in transaction SMICM -> shift + F1. Here you can see
the portnumer assigned to the HTTP protocol.
And the client is the sap client (standard client) for which the service is configured.
    Hope this helps.

  • Calling web service from Obiee

    Hi,
I want to get data from webservice and show the results in a dashboard.
    I checked http://www.artofbi.com/index.php/2009/08/consuming-a-web-service-in-obiee-presentation-services-using-jquery-cdn/ web site.
But the author is retrieving data from a web page by sending parameter to querystring like
    yqlq=select%20*%20from%20yahoo.finance.quotes%20where%20symbol%20in%20(%22YHOO%22%2C%22AAPL%22%2C%22GOOG%22%2C%22MSFT%22%2C%20%22PTRY%22)&format=json&env=http%3A%2F%2Fdatatables.org%2Falltables.env&callback=?";
But as I know we can not call web services with parameters like this.
How can I call web service from BI?
Could you please suggest articles or sample codes, documents etc.

    Hi,
I controlled this document. The document is explaining Oracle BI web services for extracting information from Oracle BI and showing them in other environments. But I want to get results from a web service ( for example a web service which returns currency rates, weather information or sharepoint lists) and then represent them in Oracle BI Dashboards.

  • How to Remove & Re-Enable Web Services on LaserJet printers supporting ePrint

If your LaserJet printer has been disconnected from or failed to connect to Web Services, you may need to power cycle your printer to reconnect.  If that does not resolve the problem, you can remove web services, wait 30 seconds, then re-enable web services to re-establish your connection to ePrint and Print Apps. Note: this last step will result in a new email address being assigned to your printer.
How do I remove HP Web Services for my LaserJet printer?
Print a configuration page from your product, and locate the IP address.
At your computer, open a Web browser and type the product IP address into the address line and press Enter. The HP Embedded Web Server opens.
Click the HP Web Services tab.
Select the option to disable Web Services.
How do I enable or re-enable HP Web Services for my LaserJet printer?
To use HP ePrint, you must first enable HP Web Services.  Re-Enabling Web Services uses the same procedure as enabling the Web Services.
Print a configuration page from your product, and locate the IP address.
At your computer, open a Web browser and type the product IP address into the address line and press Enter. The HP Embedded Web Server opens.
Click the HP Web Services tab.
Select the option to enable Web Services.
When Web Services are enabled, ePrint information appears in the HP Embedded Web Server. Look for the e-mail address that is automatically assigned to the product. The product also prints an HP Web Services information sheet that contains this e-mail address and instructions
If you were unable to register your printer in www.hpeprintcenter.com within 24 hours of printing your information sheet, you must re-enable the printer code by reprinting your information sheet.  The information sheet will also provide your email address if you have forgotten it.
How do I print the Web Services Information Sheet for my LaserJet printer?
You can only add the printer to your HP ePrintCenter account within 24 hours after printing the information sheet.  You can re-print the information sheet at any time from the printer control panel.
Print a configuration page from your product, and locate the IP address.
At your computer, open a Web browser and type the product IP address into the address line. The HP Embedded Web Server opens.
Click the HP Web Services tab.
Click the Print Information Sheet button.

  • Web service authority

I have created a web service to be consumed by a program outside of SAP.
I have had a userid created for this 3rd party company that they will use.
I want to limit what that userid can execute to only that web service.
I know that is possible - and the security people know how to do it as well.
I am not a security person - so not sure how all of that works.
The security people search for it by the name of the web service that I made up.
They have a drop down and say search by WS and it will list the web services.
The problem is - the web service isn't in the list.
I have turned the function into a web service through SE80.
I have activated the service through SOAMANAGER.
I checked to make sure the service is active through SICF.
I have even run the service just through a web browser - but still the security people cannot see it.
The only way I have been able to make it show it is to create a C# program in Visual Studio and run the web service through C# into SAP.
Once I do that - then the security people can see the web service and limit the authority.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Or am I doing something wrong with defining the web service and activating it?
    Thanks.
    Scott Overmeyer

    Hello,
Once the Web Service is active in SICF hierarchy, you should be able to add it to the specific role using PFCG. You may use External Service option with Service type 'WS'.

  • Web-services.xml, dtd or xml schema?

    Hi there!
I'm just curious to know whether there exists any dtd or schema
    for wls 7.x web-services.xml file?
    The diagram in
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs70/webserv/wsp.html#1001373
shows one order for the contents of the web-service element,
whereas the examples reflect another (being types,
    type-mapping, components, operations).
Why are the example web-services.xml not tagged with the
information of the location of the schema?
Of course building web-services.xml manually is not the first
thing to try, but since the contents are documented and since
it gives the best control over the process, it makes sense.

    Hello,
There's not one. The primary vision for the web-services.xml file
was/is to be a linkage between wsdl/soap and the j2ee environment. It
was not intended to be a starting point for building an application, but
    a semi-private intermediary.

  • How to switch off ni web services

I enabled the NIweb services by checking "Enable Web Server" in Tools/Options/Web Server: Configuration. As I do not need this functionality I disabled the feature, but still my compiled applications create a "niwebserver.conf" file causing a runtime error. How can I disable the Web Services function?

    Hi Andreas,
Exit LabVIEW. Rename your labview.ini file to something (to back it up). Ensure that there is no labview.ini file beside labview.exe. Now launch LabVIEW. If you are still getting an error, the error is not due to web services. We'll require more information to solve the problem.
If the problem persist, please try repairing the LabVIEW installation.

Almost all examples that can be downloaded from OTN expose simple web services that user java datatype like strings, ints and the like. In my case, the web services I should develop transfer custom information which are modeled as value classes or entity EJB's in my app. We deal with complex objects which contain collections/arrays/lists of other objects, and although most of the bussiness logic of the app is exposed via stateless session beanss and clases, I can not select their nethods since there ar no custom serializers for them.
By reviewing the sample newsfeed web service I noticed that int their implementation they decided to "hard-code" the data by doing an XML-query to the db and constructing a custom XML document. this document is returned as a java string so the web-service is, at the end a very simple one, which uses no custom serializers. Of course there is code to create the XML doc, and there should be some XML parsing at the client in order to deserialize the XML into java in order to do something with it.
My question is, is this the "preferred" method to deal with custom complex datatypes. should I include code in my beans and value classes so they "serialize" itself to XML so my web services have to deal with simple java strings? I have no experience in developing serializers, and I can't see why they are used? I am not sure which path should I follow, for example, should I use an array serializer to serialize a collection/array of object or should I better develop a method which will create a custom XML document repesenting the array? Are there any trade-off?
I have to start development right away, so please give me some insinght.
    Thanks,
    Fedro.

Yes, Oracle9iAS is currently production on 9.0.2. The target for OC4J 9.0.3 was end of summer but I have not seen it arrive yet. It is supposed to work in conjunction with 9.0.2 - i.e. you can use the OC4J 9.0.3 with the rest of your Oracle9iAS implementation. I think you are reasonably safe assuming it will be here by year end. I sit on the JDev side of the house so don't have specifics on what their actual delivery dates are but would guess sometime during September. The developer preview of OC4J 9.0.3 is currently available here on OTN as per the headline in the Web services Center at: http://otn.oracle.com/tech/webservices.
There are two big advantages of OC4J 9.0.3:
    1. Interoperability testing ... it has been put through the SOAPBuilder's interoperability tests and includes a test suite for you to try it out 9.0.2 is fine here but you have evidence in 9.0.3;
    2. Feature/functionality - support for Web services based on JMS, document style Web service support, testing harness at the end-point, J2EE 1.3 certification, custom serialization support (not there in 9.0.2), cleaner PL/SQL based Web services and more - see:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/ias/daily/jul22.html
The development environment that goes along with it is JDeveloper 9.0.3. While OC4J 9.02/9.03 comes with what is called the Web services assembly tool for those who like scripting/command-driven approaches, JDev puts a traditional visual dev environment on top of the OC4J 9.0.3 environment (and also Apache SOAP 2.2/2.3.1, incidently) The developer preview of JDev 9.03 is due out within days here on OTN ... probably Tuesday based on what I understand. JDev 9.0.3 production is scheduled to arrive probably in late September mid-October.
Hope this gives some background to help with your decision.
    Mike.
