Web services and Application Integration in Netweaver

I want to create Web services in Netweaver.
Just something simple to begin with. But I need to be able to:
Create the service
Call the service
Register the service [UDDI], and
Expose the service the service using WSDL.
And explain the whole thing in my research paper.
Does the SAP Web AS 6.40 tutorial cover all this??
Maybe the following book would be more useful.
What do you think??
"Web Programming with the SAP Web Application Server"
by Frederic Heinemann, Christian Rau
(Hardcover - August 2003)
I would also like to Integrate 2 applications with different databases, does the SAP Web AS 6.40 tutorial cover this as well??
When will it be possible for a company to buy mySAP (NetWeaver 04)and be able to use Netweaver to create
e.g. a Portal system?
Thanks for your time.
Regards
Sean

Sean,
Certainly you can do this in NetWeaver. Here's where to start: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/d6/f9bc3d52f39d33e10000000a11405a/content.htm
Try out the SDN downloads of Dev Studio with Web AS and EP6 with WebAS. The portal lets you show off the services yuou build quite easily. Dev studio lets you build them.

  • BPEL web service and siebel integration

    We are trying to deploy a web service in bpel - the web service takes xml as an input and calls a pl//sql api in a database to execute a piece of code.
    We deployed the wsdl file - in siebel (creats a new business service and 2 integration objects) - and are trying to call the web service (business service) by passing an xml file from siebel (using EAI Siebel Adapter business service).
    We are able to call the web service but - unable to pass the input xml -
    Any help would be apprieciated.
    Regards,
    Siddharth

    Hi Siddarth,
    We are doing similar kind of POC where Siebel team will expose a WSDL at some URL and it need to be called in an ESB or BPEL. We are facing a problem in validating the provided WSDL and not able to generate XSD out of it. Can you tell me how u r able to call the webservice in an ESB(in detail) ??? Siebel and oracle fusion are at different locations.
    Quick response would be appriciated.

  • Interfacing web services and RT applications

    [First, sorry to the NI guys who helped me with this over the phone.  It's not that I don't trust your input but in the multitude of counselors there is wisdom.]
    If I want to interface my cRIO real-time control loop with the outside world using web services, how do you implement the interface between the web service and the RT app?  If the RT app is included as part of the web service, will it start running at target boot time or must it be invoked using the web service?

    Aaron--
    What I have now is a web service only application--I only have one Build Specification and it is for the RESTful web service.  I placed what typically would be my RT application code in the web service Source Files section without any URL mappings to go with it.  Then I simply call the top level RT executable code from the web service by static reference and have it return without waiting for code execution to complete.  At this point, my "RT app" is running on the cRIO and can communicate with the web service via functional globals.
    The fact that my "RT app" does not run at boot time is not an issue in this application so I feel like I'm getting by on a special case.  If I needed to run the RT application at boot time with headless operation, I think I would still be having a problem.  I just find it a bit quirky that NI's web services put the developer in the situation that, in order to communicate with an RT executable, they must use shared variables (yuck) or implement a mini virtual network.  Why not put the web service and the RT app into the same application space and be done with it?
    Thanks,
    kc64

  • Difference between  a WEB service and a Enterprise Service?

    Can Anybody explain me the difference between  a WEB service and a Enterprise Service?

    Hi Anilkumar K Naidu ,
    Web service
    A Web service is a self-contained, modularized functionality, which can be published, discovered, and accessed across a network using open standards and which is supported by SAP NetWeaver. Web services cover services provision for integration within an enterprise as well as cross enterprises on top of any communication technology stack, whether asynchronous or synchronous, in any format.
    Web Services in the NetWeaver framework play an important role in facilitating the integration of disparate applications from various departments or trading partners and thus increasing business productivity. This benefit allows small and medium businesses also to integrate their business applications with larger trading partners. The benefit derived from this seamless integration introduces security concerns when all the business logic is now being exposed through a standard interface that is a catalyst for security vulnerabilities. SAP Security Managers must use automated diagnostics tools to ensure that the security vulnerabilities are caught in pre-production and in post-production phase.

    Enterprise Service
    Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture (Enterprise SOA)
    Enterprise SOA is a blueprint for an adaptable, flexible, and open IT architecture for developing services-based, enterprise-scale business solutions. With SAP NetWeaver as a technical foundation, enterprise SOA moves IT architectures to higher levels of adaptability – and moves companies closer to the vision of real-time enterprises by elevating Web services to an enterprise level.
    An enterprise service is typically a series of Web services combined with business logic that can be accessed and used repeatedly to support a particular business process. Aggregating Web services into business-level enterprise services provides a more meaningful foundation for the task of automating enterprise-scale business scenarios.

  • Siebel OnDemand Web Services and BPEL II

    We are trying to do a POC for a given client that is trying to decide between SOD and another on demand CRM product.
    Our POC is to integrate SOD using bpel and sending data to a back end system with SOD as the originator and instigator of the flow.
    We intend to take data from an integration event pull it into bpel do a transformation to add data to it and update SOD to complete the circuit.
    We are having a few issues and was wondering if you can provide some insight since we would like to put SOD at this site.
    Our issues are :)
    Issue 1
    When we import the WSDL for the Integration event the scheema's are not resolved.
    Issue 2. When we import more than one WSDL in our flow it has issues with duplicates between the 2 wsdls..
    issue 3.
    We have succesfully used the example application to do our login and faked out the endpoint but have not been able to automate this step.

    I'm also trying to do this.
    Some info from the Siebel web services guide:-
    "The login request is an HTTPS request to instantiate a session and obtain a session ID. A client invokes login by sending an HTTP GET request to a URL like the following:
    https://secure.crmondemand.com/Services/Integration?command=login
    NOTE: The login parameter value is case sensitive.
    ■ Login input. The input to login is provided in the URL parameters and the HTTP headers, as follows:
    ■ The only URL parameter to be set is command. This parameter value is login.
    Two HTTP headers, UserName and Password, must be set with the appropriate values for your system. For example:
    ❏ UserName: [email protected]
    ❏ Password: mypass
    ■ Login output. The login command returns the following items:
    ■ A session cookie, jsessionid. The client must use this cookie when submitting subsequent requests, including logoff requests.
    ■ A status code of 200, if the session does not encounter any errors. This indicates that the request succeeded.
    Then to get data out ....
    Integration request input. The jsessionid returned to the client during login must be included with the request. The request must contain the jsessionid either as a cookie or as a URL parameter, as follows:
    https://secure.crmondemand.com/Services/Integration/object;jsessionid=xyZ12489w3482413
    Does anyone have any ideas on how we might do this using the Oracle BPEL PM?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Diff b/w Web service and window service

    What is the difference between web service and window service, whether the both are same or not, Give some explain about that each one and give some examples also.

    An XML Web service is a component that implements program
    logic and provides functionality for diseparate
    applications. These applications use standard protocols,
    such as HTTP, XML, and SOAP, to access the functionality.
    XML Web services use XML-based messaging to send and
    receive data, which enables heterogeneous applications to
    interoperate with each other. You can use XML Web services
    to integrate applications that are written in different
    programming languages and deployed on different platforms.
    In addition, you can deploy XML Web services within an
    intranet as well as on the Internet. While the Internet
    brings users closer to organizations, XML Web services
    allow organizations to integrate their applications.
    A Windows service starts much before any user logs in to
    the system (if it has been setup to start at boot up
    process). A Windows service can also be setup in such a way
    that it requires a user to start it manually ? the ultimate
    customization!
    Windows services run as background processes. These
    applications do not have a user interface, which makes them
    ideal for tasks that do not require any user interaction.
    You can install a Windows service on any server or computer
    that is running Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows NT.
    You can also specify a Windows service to run in the
    security context of a specific user account that is
    different from the logged on user account or the default
    computer account. For example, you can create a Windows
    service to monitor performance counter data and react to
    threshold values in a database.

  • HOW TO: Connect web service (remote application module) to existing model

    Hello.
    I have J2EE application which displays some data in an applet, which reads them by a web service. I'd like to use persistence and connect with a web service called by applet to my current model set within a session. I tried to pass a session id to web service (to a function of an application module implementation). I wanted to create a new SessionCookie instance with such a session id and application id which are used for web application session (by ApplicationPoolImpl.createSessionCookie() or with custom session cookie factory). But I don't know how to pass a session and application ids to a sessioncookie creation process (ApplicationPool environment). I tried to use custom EnvInfoProvider, which set my properties, but it passes the params after a SessionCookie instance is created.
    Samples ... AppModuleServer - file generated to provide ws functionality. I changed code to use EnvInfoProvider:
    public class AppModuleServer extends Object{
      public AppModuleServer(){}
      public SomeObject[] myCustomFunction(String sessionId){
        AppModuleImpl _am = null;
        String appId="someValue";
        CustomEnvInfoProvider envProvider=new CustomEnvInfoProvider(appId, sessionId);
        try{
          _am=(AppModuleImpl)Configuration.createRootApplicationModule("data.AppModule", "AppModuleLocal", envProvider);
          return _am.myCustomFunction(sSessionId);
        finally{
          if (_am != null)Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule(_am, false);
    }CustomEnvInfoProvider:
    public class CustomEnvInfoProvider implements EnvInfoProvider{
      private String applicationId;
      private String sessionId;
      public CustomEnvInfoProvider(String applicationId, String sessionId){
        this.applicationId=applicationId;
        this.sessionId=aessionId;
      public Object getInfo(String info, Object environment){
        if(info==null)return null;
        return ((Hashtable)environment).get(info);
      public void modifyInitialContext(Object environment){
        if(applicationId!=null)((Hashtable)environment).put("CookieApplicationId", applicationId);
        if(sessionId!=null)((Hashtable)environment).put("SessionId", sessionId);
      public int getNumOfRetries(){
        return 2;
    }Does anybody knows how to pass information from custom EnvInfoProvider just before a SessionCookie is created (e.g. how to run modifyInitialContext() function). Or another way how to pass these information from a web service base function into ApplicationPoolImpl instance. E.g., there is parameter "properties" whithin a createSessionCookie method of ApplicationPoolImpl, which is null during calling. Is it possible to pass there some additional information?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Publishing as web service an application that connects with Oracle 8i

    Hi.
    I have to execute a stored procedure in a 8i database (database migration or upgrade is not a possibiity). I have to incorporate this into an ADF 11g App and I've tried it making another project and using the 10g jdbc driver which allows me to execute that SP.
    When I execute SP call, everything is OK, but when I try to call from the main app, there are conflicts with 11g driver and execution fails, because, I think, in the classpath is first 11g driver reference and it uses this river class instead 10g drivers.
    Now I'm trying with a separate app which just call the SP. I put the same code, and again when I run it as standalone app everything is OK, but when I deploy it as a web service and run it from WS test it doesn't work and again results in the same error above.

    Hi,
    This was what I did when I was trying to run Hibernate on Weblogic, it was conflicting with different versions of antlr.* packages in Weblogic. Then I added these lines for making Weblogic to use Hibernate's antlr libs instead of installed on Weblogic.
    So, I thought that it might help to solve your problem if Oracle drivers conflict with drivers pre-installed in Weblogic.
    Also can you please try to add in your weblogic-application.xml, if it still does not solve your problem unfortunately I don't know any other way to solve your problem.

  • Java app with web service and servlets

    Hi. I intend to make a java application which exposes some methods as a web service and as jsp/servlets. It's core functionality is not really web centric, but its more a java app with a web tier. I am not sure about how the architecture of such a system would look like using the java platform. I currently see three options:
    1. Run everything in a servlet container like tomcat. I hesitate to do this because i would be putting a lot of functionality which isn't about the web into a servlet container. Also, I have a lot of application scope data that is maintained and shared by all servlets/web services. However, it would be really easy just to put everything into tomcat and use ServletContext to maintain some global objects.
    2. Use a Java EE to seperate application/business logic and data access into session beans and entity beans. I hesitate to this because it seem a bit overkill because the system isn't very big or complex right now. It also means that I would have to learn to use EJB's instead of just using some POJOs.
    3. Run the web tier in a servlet container and the main app in a separate JVM, and then connect the tier by sending serialized objects over TCP sockets. I don't like writing network code but at least there is some separation of the tiers.
    What would you do? Maybe I have overlooked a much better solution to the problem?
    Let me just say that the system is the product of a student project spanning one semester, so it's important to choose the RIGHT solution (architectural-wise) instead of the something quick and dirty that is hard to defend.

    jschell wrote:
    Run everything in a servlet container like tomcatTomcat is a JEE container.Now I am confused. Maybe you mean Glassfish? Tomcat is definitely a web container(?).
    Let me just say that the system is the product of a student project spanning one semester, so it's important to choose the RIGHT solution (architectural-wise) That pretty much makes it impossible then.
    1. A "Right" solution is generally only proven by time.
    2. It requires a great deal of knowledge about the business domain.Yeah, you are right. Let be try to rephrase it. What solution (pattern) would be considered the most common or appropriate when you have a Java App and want to expose a few methods as a website and web service?
    I hesitate to do this because i would be putting a lot of functionality which isn't about the web into a servlet container. Also, I have a lot of application scope data that is maintained and shared by all servlets/web servicesHuh? Do you already have an exposed web service? If you already have a server which other clients communicate then where does this functionality that you don't want to be tomcat running now? Or where do you think that you want to run it? And if you are or do run it somewhere else then tomcat could access it the same way any other client accesses that server.Sorry, that sentence was written badly. I don't have anything right now. What I meant to write was that I will have a lot of application scope data, objects that are kept in memory as long as the server is running, shared by multiple servlet instances.

    If yes the approaches are completely different - you use Web Services when you have to customise the application and build your logic/functionality into the app. CRUD operations are procided by Web Services - you need to form your wrapper application from scratch and develop!
    With BP - it involves least development effort bearing in mind that its all standard content and not yet completely customizable. So based on your requirements plan whether to go for Business Package or Web Services or Java API completely...

  • Creating a web service using websphere integration developer

    Hi! all, Iam trying to create a web service in websphere integration developer, of IBM,
    While creating a wsdl file, it asks for literals, there we need to check the corresponding literal based upon the requiremnet.
    I came to know that document literal is used for document inputs and outputs,where as rpc literal/rpc encoded is used when dealing with the primitive data types.
    I created a simple addition operation with rpc encoded its working,
    but i tried out with the rpc encoded , which is causing an error
    the err is :
    IWAB0135E An unexpected error has occurred.
    SOAPException
    Operation timed out: connect:could be due to invalid address
    Iam not getting how to resolve this error,
    Please let me know , if any has faced this kind of error , n knows how to solve.
    And also let me know exactly , the difference between the literals.
    Fine then,
    Thanks & Regards,
    D.Swetha.

    Unfortunately, OUT parameters are not supported in 9.0.3 as per this doc:
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/ias/doc_library/903doc_otn/generic.903/b10004/plsqlservices.htm#1030066
    JDeveloper's PL/SQL Web service support is built on top of the Oracle9iAS support so is subject to the same constraints. Support for OUT arguments is planned in future releases of Oracle9iAS and Oracle9i JDev.
    You may be able to construct a workaround using an approach described in this new DB Web services paper:
    http://otn.oracle.com/tech/webservices/htdocs/dbwebservices/Database_Web_Services.pdf
    where you use JPublisher/SQLJ to do the work and then another wrapper/sub class as the actual class that is published as a Web service. See the section that covers a strategy for publishing result sets which are an unsupported type but through a bit of extra work can be used within Web services. This loses the point-and-click tooling approach in JDeveloper but may solve the issue if it is a hard requirement.
    Mike.

  • Enabling Usage Rights for Web Service and Database connectivity

    We are looking for code that allows us to enable web service and database connectivity rights into a form. We are using LiveCycle Forms 7.2 to render the XDP and merge data. Because we are merging data into the form, it has to be reader enabled through the  code everytime it is presented to the user in our application.
    usageRights[0] = com.adobe.document.pdf.DOCUMENT_SAVE.value;
    usageRights[1] = com.adobe.document.pdf.FORM_FILL_IN.value;
    usageRights[2] = com.adobe.document.pdf.FORM_EXPORT.value;
    usageRights[3] = com.adobe.document.pdf.FORM_IMPORT.value;
    usageRights[4] = com.adobe.document.pdf.FORM_ONLINE.value;
    Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated
