Web services exposed by BusinessObjects

Hi all!
Is it possible to define a Web Service with BusinessObjects XIr3 (maybe with JSP SDK?), in order to expose that service and call it from a different web application?
Many thanks!
Antonio Angelo

Business Objects SDKs can be used to communicate with Business Objects server to perform administrative tasks and viewing\scheduling reports etc. The Web Services SDK offered by Business Objects are used to write consumer applications to access the web services offered by BO. If you want to write a web service provider, you can use BO Enterprise\ RAS\ Report Engine SDK to talk to to BO Server however if you want to write full fledged provider that accesspts soap requests from consumer, it is something out of scope for BO

  • Web Service - Expose BI data

    Hi,
We are in BI 7, trying to expose BI data using QUERY_VIEW_DATA.
I did basic configurations using Tcode - SICF.
    In WSADMIN, when I execute
    " Web Service QUERY_VIEW_DATA default_host/sap/bc/srt/rfc/sap/ QUERY_VIEW_DATA " getting following error message:
"You are not authorized to view the requested resource"
Also verified with basis team the J2EE server address, They confirmed my configuration values correct in Tcode - WSADMIN (goto--> Administration Settings), Soap runtime version is - v1.00_final_6.40
Is there any basic documents available to verify existing configuration.., also what are the Authorization objects required to perform this.
Appreciate, if any documents or solution provided to over come above issue.
    Thanks,
    Madhu

    Hi Arun,
Thanks for Information. After Adding WSNavigatorRole, previous error is not coming.
Now there is new error : Cannot download WSDL from http://...servername.com:port/sap/bc/srt/rfc/sap/QUERY_VIEW_DATA?sap-client=020&wsdl=1.1: It is not allowed to access this service. If you believe you should be able to, please contact your system administrator .
If we call  the above URL directly, you will be able to access the file.
    What might be the issue...
    Thanks in advance,
    Madhu

  • Web Service exposing Java Collaborations vs designing with eInsight

    Hello
I have relatively little experience in designing and implementing web services. We are now looking at implementing some minor services with JCAPS.
I would like to have some input on above subject. what are the pros and cons using either of the strategies. Today we do not use eInsight.
I have understood that you do not have access to the SOAP message when exposing a java collaboration as a web service. I can also understand some of the drawbacks if you develop a ws consumer and you want to manipulate the SOAP message. But if you develop a server service implementation, when do you need access to the SOAP message?
    Other issues that might arise:
    Security
    Distributed transactions
Any references to best practice resources, biased towards JCAPS would be highly appreciated.
    TIA

    Hi again
We are also interested in in using attachments in the SOAP message. I have googled a bit and from what I have found it seams that it is "not supported out of the box"
Can anyone enlighten me in this area?
A general comment, I find it very hard to get information from the documentation of JCAPS, maybe I have missed something so please direct me to the right source if you find my ?? to much "newbie like". Things like, specification of packages, classes, methods, parameters with data types, Exceptions etc where can I find it in JCAPS?
As an example, The SAAJ package throws an exception in the log in 5.1.3, so it must be there. Where can I find information about that implementation in JCASP?
    TIA and Br,

    Hi,
I have the same issue using JDeveloper 11.1.1.0.1 to build a web service data control on a web service exposed with weblogic...
Does anyone have a solution ?
    Thanks
( Note: this is a new issue, it might have appeared after upgrading from 11.1.1.0.0 to 11.1.1.0.1 )

  • Invoking a web-service through Aqualogic BPM

I have seen some posts regarding integration of web-services with BPM but could not solve my problem (as I am very new to BPM, just 2 days old :) ).
I am trying to integrate with the weather web-service whose WSDL is available at http://wsrp.bea.com/portal/boulder/weather.wsdl
    This is what I did
    1. Created a module in the Catalog
    2. Right-clicked on the created module, Catalogue Component -> Web Service and provided the WSDL
    3. Introspection was done and the External Resoures folder was also populated automatically.
    4. I then created a global activity for invoking this web-service.
But the problem that I am facing is that what method should I write for the global activity that I have created so that the web-service can be invoked.
    Please reply
    Thanks.

You just need to call the Web service exposed method from the global activity.
if your module name is WS. The name of the webservice you catalogued is Weather. The service name which you can see when you expand the Weather. Then you will be able to view the exposed method.
    WS.Weather.WeatherService.getWeather

  • Deploying a Web Service developed for WebSphere to Oracle App Server

I have an EAR file containing a web service (exposed as a servlet) that was developed using WebSphere Studio and originally deployed to a WebSphere application server. It should be J2EE 1.4 compliant. I now want to deploy it as a web service on Oracle Application Server.
Is it as simple as just deploying the EAR to OAS? Or do I need to (re-)assemble the EAR using the Web Service Assembler tool and then deploy it? What is the best practices approach for this scenario? My goal is to develop a web service that is deployable to both WebSphere and OAS with as little fuss as possible.
    Thanks

    using Ant.
check apache.org project there they have the ant section.

  • FileAdapter to JaxRpc web service, all or nothing

I've managed to use the File Adapter to read batch files (both positional and delimited) and for each record invoke a synchronous Web Service exposed by my J2EE app to update that application with my data. Now I would like to do the same thing, but have the entire system reject/rollback all updates from an inbound file if ANY of the records encounter errors (either during the reading/transformation or during the WS call).
Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about doing it? FWIW the application is using OC4J,TopLink,Struts,Spring,Axis. The web services in question have been created specifically for this purpose, so can be modified if required.
    Thanks,
    Richard

I discussed with Dev Group on this feature. Here is the response below.
Yes, "all or nothing" was the old default behavior. We introduced a notion of "uniqueDelimiter" in order to have "reject only bad records" functionality. Richard should just be able to remove the "uniqueDelimiter" in his nxsd file to revert to "all or nothing" functionality. Otherwise please ask him for his nxsd file and we can take a look.

  • How to pass username and password from form to web service

    Hi All,
We need to develop an offline interactive to form.
When on desktop computer, the user has to click on button and it calls a web service (exposed via PI ) which updates the backend.
But backend needs an authorised user for updation. We have a dummy user with authorisations.
But how to pass the that username with its password to web service
    Please give your suggestions

  • Web service based data Control lost it's operations

    HELP!!
I came back into a Jdeveloper project that had web services exposed as data controls and now the operations and their returns are missing in the Data Control Palette!!
All I see is the Data Control name, NO operations under them.
How do I get this back easily?

    Hi,
the sample was built in 11.1.1.3, which however should not matter. The arguments are not manually added to the metadata. Instead your web service method must have it defined as an argument. ADF WS Data Control then makes sure the parameter metadata is generated as well, when you create the WS DC

  • Web Services - Servlets vs EJBs

    Hi,
Looking for any suggestions about the benefits of using either servlets or EJBs as web service endpoints. Very early in the design of any application, I wish to expose my business logic components as web services, is there any particular benefit to using a specific approach (i.e. using either EJBs or Servlets as the end points of the web services exposing the business logic)?
This is a totally new application so I have no considerations towards reusing old EJB code, etc. My initial thoughts favour using servlets, if only because it reduces the complexity / resources required for the application server (i.e only Web-container required, rather than Web & EJB container).
    Any thoughts please?

Why do Servlets not scale as well? Surely they are
more "lightweight" than an EJB (which has all theRMI
overhead), and wouldn't it ultimately be down tothe
underlying app server anyway?Right, but servlets are just HTTP request listeners.
They aren't components, they aren't transactional,
they don't handle persistence, they don't have
naming services, they don't have queuing services.
The EJB container offers you a lot.
With that said, it's not just a choice between
servlets and EJBs. You can use POJOs and avoid EJBs
altogether if you do it right.
Or choose the best of both worlds and mix 'n match as needed.
Noone forces you to choose one over the other (at least not for any technical reasons, I'm not diving into corporate politics here).
My thought was that web services were a better wayto
expose business logic than EJBs, but if there some
solid reason why this isn't the case I like toknow.
Web services - lightweight? Maybe that's true of
REST, but certainly not SOAP. There's an argument
that says services are more heavyweight than EJBs,
because all the XML on the wire is an expensive
    protocol.
SOAP is heavy on the network, but it's essentially a rather thin layer on top of other services (if properly architected).
For example we have a SOAP layer exposing a Spring application which proxies an EJB architecture.
Next to that SOAP layer sits a traditional web application (servlets) which itself has a Spring application sitting on top of it for demonstration and testing purposes.
And then there's an SDK allowing direct access to the Spring layer (and thus almost direct access to the EJB layer).
That's the beauty of a true open architecture, each component can be built on top of another and the component underneath can function just fine without it.
    Look into Spring:
    http://www.springframework.org
It's a lighter alternative to EJBs, and good plumbing
for any Java EE app. While Spring can serve as an alternative for EJB in places where EJB are overkill it's of course not in competition with it.
Spring is a service layer, making use of other technologies (like EJB, like AOP, like ORM) to provide data and other services (like Struts, like JSF, like JSP) to provide that data to requesters.

  • How to find what are all web services depolyed?

    Hi all,
I am taraka working as BA. I have theoretical knowledge on how web services work. I asked to test web services using SOAP UI.
I have a URL and soap message. But some time I am getting webservice names and not complete urls.
I would like to find out list of web services exposed at given url.
Is there any way to find it?
    Please let me know.
    Thank you in advance..
    Regards,
    Taraka

Usually you would get the webservice urls from the developers?
Some appservers can give you a list e.g on jboss you can check hostName:port/jbossws

  • Need clarifications on NB Web services

    Hi All,
We are trying to utilize the web services exposed by the CPO 3.0. However we are stuck with following topics/questions and not able to move forward. The intention of this, is basically to trigger/observe/stop/review activities from a custom portal similar to Cisco Prime catalog. We have referred NB Web Services guide, but it doesn't explain in detail
Process Level - How to accomplish a custom web service (Our definition of custom is a feature offered as part of CPO but not available as a web service) along with the guidelines of parameterizing techniques which is not been elaborated in the NB_Web Services Guide (available online along with WSDL).Example - Guidelines to create a new web service Process by name startUpdateDatabase(parameter1, parameter2,…... parameter n)
Instance Level - Development documentation of web service which can give the exact node status of the current instance runningAnticipated return statement similar to currentExecutionNode - (node n) where n is the node ID/name of the requested instance
Tasks Level - Lifecycle documentation associated to tasksExample - ItilStatus(ItilTaskStatus) - Status of Task (New, assigned, pending, InProgress ….. Etc.,) - Understanding of the complete lifecycle but not just parameters. How to obtain?
Sample code to perform tasks like InputTask and ApprovalTask which involves user effort (say, approving an action) using web services and when the task is performed by an user, the status of the flow of information changes from assigned to completed.
Are there any Web Services development guide with examples(Apart from NB Web Services Guide)?
Any help would be much appreciated .
    Thank you!
    Regards,
    Eswar

ok... I'll give it a whirl.
As a side note, you should be able to use something like SOAP UI if you are trying to easily form the calls. You can use SOAP UI and connect to whatever WSDL in the NBWS you want and it will give you all the methods and you can create sample calls and try them out. This is shown quite a bit in my blogs. For web service work, my blogs are a great place to start.
Process Level - I believe what you are asking here is how to get something to start via NBWS? In 3.0 you must add the trigger "Started by Web Service". There you can configure the exposed name/method for that web service. After saving your process you must refresh/bounce the web services and then your process will show up in the process WSDL (by default: http://host:port/WS/Process?WSDL). You can then make calls to it.
I believe you are asking how to find the status of a current process? Or are you asking about the exact status of a CPO node in the cluster? If it's the process, you can use the process instance WSDL @ http://hostname:port/WS/ProcessInstance?WSDL. If you are asking about finding the status of a CPO node, then you can query the DB for that or you could just use the windows activity "Query Service" and query for the CPO Service to be running. You would have to write this yourself but it's quite easy. (in fact I probably have a blog showing it somewhere) There is *NO* webservice to give back the status of a CPO node's service
Not sure what you are asking about tasks. You can use the NBWS for them in http://host:port/WS/Task?WSDL . The lifecycle of a tasks should meet that of the ITIL model as that is what CPO is patterned after. We do not offer training on this lifecycle, that would be something you would fine with ITIL training. Many of the customers (who are not ITIL trained) only use a couple of status and go with it because it means something to them. IE. Some only used CLOSED to close out tasks, but some used RESOLVED. It's really up to end user determination.
I would create the task via web service and then update it with the proper information. Again, like I mentioned above, if you need to see samples or the layout of one, then use SOAP UI. It will give you a template layout and then you can fill in the required information. We do not have a sample of every single web call we produce. (since SOAP UI does such a great job) You can also use the WEB SERVICE EXECUTE activity inside of CPO and this gives you inputs to do it directly (although does not give you the soap message like SOAP UI does)
No. The NBWS guide is it. Use SOAP UI as per above. I have done a numerous amount of blogs that have some information in them and have some examples, but I have not done everything because the use case has not crossed my desk.
If you have more pointed use case and what exactly you are trying to do we can go into further detail maybe, but the above is a good start.

  • Dropdown List binding from web-service storing the reference not the value

    Hi,
In my human task form, I have a dropdown field who's value list has to be derived from a web-service exposing a table holding the list of values.
It works perfectly fine for the end-user, as in when a user selects a value, say 'XYZ' in step-1 the next user in step-2 is able to see the value as 'XYZ'.
However, when I check the payload of the the composite instance in enterprise manager after the instance has left step-1, I do not see the value 'XYZ' in the payload XML; instead I see a string oracle.jbo.Key[2 0 ]. It seems like BPM is storing some sort of a reference to that value that it resolves at run-time thus displaying 'XYZ'. As the user changes the value from the list, the array seem to be changing like [3 0],[1 0],etc.
Is this how it is expected to behave ? Doesn't seem to be right to me as for all other fields it promptly stores the actual value in the payload and not any sort of reference
    Here's what I did:
    1. Added a Data Control of type web-service and provided the wsdl link for the same. The wizard asks for the operations which in my case is a simple 'select'
    2. From the data control corresponding to the human-task data model, I dragged the field and selected Single Choice>ADF Select One Choice control
    3. Edit binding page opens where the data-control of the web-service is enabled and has the option for providing the input for the web-service
    4. Click ok and the next screen displays 'edit list binding' for the field dragged from the human task payload. Here I add the data control's output object (iterator). Then I provide the data mapping where I define the ID field identifying the value user would select. The display attribute has description of the id.
