Web.show_document to print reports

hi,
i am using web.show_document to print reports. when i print a report, a new browser window is displayed, i don't want this to happen, or at least close the windows that appear automatically, i hope someone can help me.

i have tried all the targets in the show_document call. they either produced a new window, or replaced the current window containing the result of printing, i don't want any effect to take place on the windows, printing only.

The report is generated,
But it does not open directly in browser!
The browser will download a file without extension / format, with the name 'getjobid38'!
When I change the code to 'TXT'

The following error is returned:
rep-50003 the command line is invalid: getjobid38.txt

working with forms 11gR2 (11.1.2.1)

Browser Time out in Reports (using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT to call reports)

When running a big report which takes a long time to run, it finishes on the report server but in the browser the screen is stuck at the parameter form, you don't see the report output. It's as if the browser has timedout. Is there a solution to this?
I am running reports using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT only - through a URL. This seems to be a huge drawback of using this method.

Is the browser launching?
If it is have you tried a show source on the browser window?
Sometimes if you open an XML file in a browser you get a blank page but the XML is there. Something to do with the XML format I think. I'm no expert on XML just a behaviour I have observed.

I try to use run_report_object to generate report in Forms.
Report Destination Type: CACHE
report status 'FINISHED'
I checked cache <o-h>\reports\cache, the report is there. But nothing is show on screen.
Do I HAVE TO use web.show_document('url') to display report in cache?
If yes, what url I should use? If no (hope so), what I should do to bring the report to browser?

Problem with web.show_document in calling report

I have started the reports server... Programs->run->"C:\oracle\product\DevSuite10g\BIN\rwserver.exe server".
The system started a report server called "f".
Pressing a button:

But there is not.... The server f has started successfully....
Do you have any idea why is that...???
NOTE: I use Oracle Dev10g. I also noticed that in the window which shows the status of the report server... in the last line as "active threads"(i don't know if i translated into english right ... the status is displayed in greek) that there are 2. Is this problem...???

Eventually , the report run... when the active thread got the value 1. How is it done...(i mean the value of 1 , instead of 2 when the report started...????) How to secure that the active thread would be 1 if this is the problem...????
However , because the report is 2 page accross.... the report displays the first page and down the other page.... Is it possible to display both pages accross as i see them in report builder env....?????

Web.Show_Document does not work with long running reports

I am using Web.Show_Document() to call reports from Forms. Everything works fine for smaller reports. However for long running reports I do not get the output instead get the page "This page cannot be displayed.". On checking the job status on the report server I find that report is still running and completes after some time but by that time my http request has already timed out. What configuration do I have to change to make my long running reports work.

So, looks like this is an IE issue. I need to add the form server site to my list of Trusted Sites. Once I did that, everything started to work fine. Thought I'd share in case anyone is really interested.....

Running report with web.show_document

We are using web.show_document to run reports which have parameter forms. destype=CACHE , desformat=pdf . We are also using the javabean which hides the login credentials as a cookie.
The output displays OK then the user wants to email it, so they use the mail button on the adobe reader toolbar.
They are asked whether they want to link or copy even though link does not work.
If they choose copy, the result is an email with an attachment called 'servlet' with no extension.
The recipient of the email has no idea what a servlet is, and more importantly they do not know how to open the file.
Does anyone know how to get around these problems ?

Your method is fine if run_report_object is used. However, in order to display a parameter form, the report must be run with web.show_document. If web.show document is used twice, first to run the report and then to display it, the second does not wait for the first to finish, even if a synchronize is put between them.
So, as soon as the parameter form appears, the second show_document appears in front of it saying it cannot find the file. Dismissing that allows access to the parameter form, the report runs and gives a success message but no output.

I used this code on form, button mouse click trigger.

When I clicked it open another window but it lost the port number 7778 on the URL address then it gives the error page cannot display.

If I add the port # manuallly it will show the report.
But the insert/import JPG picture not appear it gives red x on the left corner.
How can i solved this problem to retain the port# when calling the report? Anyone can help me please.
IAS10gR2. OS windows server 2003R2.
Furthermore where i can set the path of the report so that no need to specify the drives/folder which reports resides? I set the path for forms but for report i dont know where.
I edited the registry but the report path is not accessible.Is there any config like the forms(Forms Edit Environment File: default.env) for report?

I am currently using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT to run Reports with
Developer Server. It is outputing as a PDF in IE5. It works
great. But I have a security concern. The report has to know
who the current user is to properly fill in some parameters. I
use the GET_APPLICATION_PROPERTY in Forms to get the USERID and
PASSWORD. These get passed to the browser as part of the
visible URL when the report is output as a PDF in the browser.
I would like to hide the browsers address bar for these reports.
Is there a way to do this?

I can actually answer that! I had the same problem initially.
I spent a whole day searching both Microsoft and Adobe
documentation
and websites. I finally found the answer buried in Acrobat
Reader's
documentation.
In your Adobe folder(I don't remember exactly where) you will
find
a file called Nppdf32.dll.
Simply copy it to C:\program files\internet explorer\plugins
You should now be able to view pdf files in IE5.
FYI - Acrobat Reader 4 appears to have some sort of bug in it.
Once it is installed it will mess up IE5's ability to download by
clicking on a download link.
When you click on a link for a download it tries to start Acrobat
Reader 4 and then the download just fails.
You can work around this by right-clicking
on the link and selecting save as. But if it is a button that
you
click on to initiate a download you can't do that.
I have not been able to undo this so if you can I would recommend
using Acrobat Reader 3

Yes, you can use any valid URL within web.show_document

Reports 9i Printing from Forms with WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT

I want to print a Report from Forms via WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT directly to the printer and it works fine.
But every time i print it from my web application a new browser-windows opens and shows a message "Printed successfully" or something like that. If I start the printjob again nothing happens - if I press the Browser-Refresh-Button in the new Browser-Windows with the Message ("Printed Successfully") it prints.
So now I have 2 questions:
a) How can I disable the "Printed successfully"-Message
b) What hava I to do that I not must press on the Refresh-Button to start the printing again
I hope I hava explained my problem clearly. 4

Print Report from Web..

Dear All,
I have deployed my 6i reports on OAS Forms and Reports Services (9.0.4), by compiling 6i reports in 10 g report builder.
These 6i reports have the default parameters like
Destype=screen
Desformat=dflt
But in forms builder 10g in report object I gave
Destype=cache
Desformat=pdf
parameter to run the report from forms using Web.show_document().
So when take the print from web the format ( indentation, fonts,font size) of the report is little changed as compare to 6i reports format.
How can I got the exact format ( indentation, fonts,font size) of 6i while print from web(
by OAS Forms and Report Services)?

If you are attempting to print a report from a when-button-pressed trigger from within a form, you do not have to explicitly specify the server (hostname) nor the port. You can just use what I've found referred to as a virtual path to the server as I have done here:

You can specify a userid/password@connectstring within a named congifuration section of your formsweb.cfg file if necessary, e.g. my_config.

Calling Reports from Forms (run_report_object and then Web.Show_document)

Hi all,
we are in the process to prepare a Forms-Migration from 6i to 10g and like probably most of the other Forms-Customers we also use Reports.
We have setup a test-scenario with Forms/Reports Standalone Installation. So we have some Forms running and we are now starting to test reports.
I have created a Test-Form to call run_report_object in the documented way. That means described in the white paper. set the parameters, then call the run_report_object BUILTIN and when the job is finished, I do a call to the Web.Show_Document BUILTIN with "getjobid". As destype I use "CACHE"
So far so good, that works like a charm.
But after seeing the output in the browser, I can use the URL as a template and only change the jobid and then I can see all other reports as well, whether the output is from me or not. Even worse if I change the URL to use the command "showjobs" I can see a nice list with all the output and can click and see all of them.
Is there a way to secure this in an easy way.
I have read the white papaer about securing the use of WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT with a cookie, but that sounds to me that it is meant if I want to run the report with that builtin which isn't the case I am willing to run the Report with "RUN_REPORT_OBJECT" which is secure enough to me, but the output of all jobs can be seen from anybody.
Because we use the Forms/Reports Standalone Installation (because of License-Costs, ...) Single-Sign_on is no option for us we only want a situation where we can do the same as before.
Run a report, see the output and nobody else can see it.
If anybody has an idea how to do it, that would be great.

but I'm still thinking that there is no "easy" Migration-Solution for our request.
Running a report and after doing whatever needs to be done (read, print, ...) and don't care about additional security because nobody else can read it.
But that might be the price for the bunch of new features in the "Web"-World were you never know where your application runs and you have to secure a lot more stuff then before.
Anyway I think we proceed with a combination out of the adviced Metalink Note : 437246.1. We can set the expiration-parameter, we cannot set diagnostic=NO because we use Run_Report_Object but we can change httpd.conf and we reject all calls to showmap, showjopbs, etc.
I'm not sure whether we need the rewrite part, but we'll see.

Web.show_document-i dont want to open report in browser just save in folder

I want that report is not open into browser just save pdf files in a specific folder. Any body knows how i do this. I am using 10g developer 9.0.4.

This configuration file is present in the /reports/conf/ directory.
It contains a few examples, very usefull if you want to hide some informaztion, like the connection string for instance.
you can call it by setting the entry name in the url:
