Webcam problems with Equium A60

I have a Creative Ultra Live for Notebooks which I can not get to work with my Equium A60-156.When I install the software it tells me that no drivers have been installed and that the device in not recognized.I have the latest BIOS & have tried changing the powersave settings & various other solutions Creative have suggested all to no avail !
Has anyone else had this problem and overcome it ?
Creative discussion forums are full of people with toshiba notbooks with this problem.

Hi, I don't have the create ultra live webcam but I do have the creative notebook cam installed on my A60-181 so I guess it can't be much different. It's possible the driver installation wasn't success and will need to be re-installed. Have a look in device manager if you see any yellow marks regarding an unknown USB device then remove it. Run the install program again then plug in the webcam afterwards not before. Does it say something like found new USB device and prompted you for installing drivers?? Click on "recommended" then later it will say "these drivers are unsigned..." etc. you have to "OK" otherwise the drivers wont install.

my question; what dvd drives are compatible for an equium a60 (psa67e-001001en)?
background; i did a very silly thing! whilst i was in japan and about 18 months after purchasing my a60 in the uk, the dvd drive packed up. i replaced it with a teac dvd drive and it worked like a dream! i threw the old drive away (i think it was a matsu****a, but can't remember the exact model). anyway, i came home and had a bit of spare time on my hands so i decided to tweak my machine and corrupted the windows xp registry.
Now the windows xp runs in a loop, i can't get access to it and i need to wipe the hard drive and start again basically. i put the recovery disk in, but the computer doesn't read from it and frustratingly finds its way to the loopy windows. i have determined that it is not recognising the teac drive that i used to replace the old one. i think if i put an original type back in, the firmware may recognise the drive and i'll be back in business.... or so i hope!
of course, any other advice would be gratefully received too! thanks.
work around??? ps... a work around i thought up... copy the contents of the recovery disk on to a hard drive (using my old computer) then swap the current hdd in my a60 with it... theory; when the computer finds the contents during booting, it will install xp on another part of that hard drive and i'll have a working machine again. could something like that work???????? any thoughts????

as it turns out, that pioneer drive rung bells.
though my TEAC (DV-w28e) replacement looks identical to my previous drive and has worked ok with windows, at "the bios level" it is not being recognised... is that something you would have expected???? i must admit, with windows, the TEAC outperformed the original drive and was surprised it wasn't reading my recovery disk after my self infliction! i also tried using a usb hdd loaded up with the recovery disk and that didn't work.

Webcam problems with ONE contact

Im not sure if this is this is the right place for this post but im running out of options and i am getting desperate!
Here is the situation:
I have a mac book pro laptop running os x 10.5.6.
I am trying to use my webcam and chat with a contact, the webcam is set up and works with all other contacts accept this one contact.
On My macbook pro - I have used IChat with AIM to try to video conference with the contact, and i get an error message, saying that the contact is in another conference (which they say they arent). On their side they say that the conference was declined from my side.
I Also experience a similar problem on my pc using msn messenger... I can view my contacts webcam, and all other contacts webcams, and I can send my webcam to all other contacts... but the one contact, the screen goes white, and the connection times out?
I am assuming this would be a problem with the one contacts router or firewall? but what could it be? they say the firewall is disabled ...
But if it were a connection problem would I be able to view the contacts webcam?

This could be several issues.
If it is Mac to Mac then it is likely to be a feature of their Modem such as Denial of Service or Internet Ping blocking (not responding to Internet Pings).
If it is Mac to PC then the Windows firewall should be On but the app allowed as an Exception Written for XP Service Pack 2 but applies to Vista as well.
There is a chance that it is about whether they have opened the ports iChat (or their App) needs in their router or modem. Most only have port up to 1024 open.
the device(s) can act as a hardware firewall if they are not open.
Ports to cover iChat 3 and 4
AIM uses port 1024-5000 in addition to Logging on on port 5190

Is there somebody who knowns a software that can be used between my Mac and messenger and where the webcam ISight is working with. For the moment I have a mercury the webcam function is not working. Find bellow the reason.

If I understand correctly, Johannes, you can use either aMSN or Mercury
Either can do webcam video with MSMessenger clients using OS X and your built-in iSight.
aMSN and Mercury work a bit differently, so use whichever is easiest or most reliable on your MBP.
As an alternative, because your iNtel Mac can use Boot Camp, VMware Fusion™, Parallels™, or VirtualBox to run Windows® software, you can choose which method you want to use, add the required software to your iNtel Mac (if you have not already done so), and then install and use the same Windows® Messenger application that your contacts use.
If you need more help with Boot Camp than you get here, search or post in Boot Camp discussions category.

Power supply problems with Equium L10

Hi everyone,
When I insert the power cord into the laptop it won't charge up or the indicator will quickly change from battery to power supplied from the plug.
I bought another AC adaptor and I still have the same problem. I wonder whether it is something internally in the computer as it also sometimes makes a high pitched sound (like the sound of a whistle kettle boiling!).
Can anyone offer any advice?

Hi Lauren,
I think the connector for the AC power cable may be loose. When you move the notebook it may be causing the power connector to momentarily break its connection and the notebook will lose all power unless the battery is installed.
You can usually solve this by firmly clamping the power cable to the back of the notebook so that there is no strain on the power connector and it will not be moved or dislodged if the notebook itself is moved.
I made a suitable clamp for my notebook out of a piece of plastic strip which I bent around the power cable and then secured to one of the spare nuts on the back of my notebook with an old screw from a scrap connector. It has worked very well so far and I no longer have problems with my power suddenly cutting out or reverting to battery.

Webcam problem with Thinkpad L530 running Windows 8

Hi,
I have a L530 running windows 8. I'm trying to activate the webcam with Skype. Skype doesn't recognize the webcam. I went into the Start "page" in windows 8 and use the "Camera" win 8 app. The app displays a big camera with a diagonal line going across it, which to me meaning that the Camera app has problem using the camera.
I've gone into the controll panel/Device manager checking for Integrated Camera. The device status says "This device is working properly". The driver version is 1.0.0.19.
I'm not sure what to do. Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

This sounds like the camera is set to Private mode, which is a security feature to block the camera from any potential hackers. To change this setting, go to the Lenovo Settings metro app and open it. There should be camera settings in here. Select the camera and make sure the camera is not set to Private.

Webcam problem with flash player

I am using flash v10.3.181.26 on a win7 machine with IE9, and trying to make it work with a virtual webcam (a directshow filter in the video capture category). I notice that the available formats are enumerated (I420 352x288 , RGB32 352x288 ) by flash player by making calls to the getstreamcaps function. Then it tries to make a connection using RGB32 320x240 by making a call to setformat. The structure it passes to that function has an inconsistent field (bytesize). I checked this by calculation, as well as trying other apps. Can you please verify this..? I can provide more details if required.

In the GetStreamCaps function in my code, for the RGB32 format I had provided it the values filled in based on the default (RGB32 352x288). So, in the AM_MEDIA_TYPE structure, lSampleSize is 405504, and in BITMAPINFOHEADER, the biSizeImage is also the same. I also provided the min resolution as 320x240 and max as 352x288, with a granularity of 16x16.
so, it decides to take 320x240 as the resolution and calls my code with SetFormat. In there, I noticed that the BITMAPINFOHEADER's biSizeImage filled is as expected (320*240*32/8), but the lSampleSize of the AM_MEDIA_TYPE is still the same as before (405504). If I store this format now and later give it back in GetFormat, then the flashplayer seems to get messed up (enumerating the media types again, and then calling checkfmediatype with null, and then finally failing in the buffer allocation step while trying to connect). The failure in the buffer allocation pointed me to some possible problem in the bytecount.
If I correct the structure passed to me in the Setformat (i.e. I make both values as expected), then things go fine, the media type in checkmediatype is the same RGB32 320x240, and the buffer allocation succeeds, and the connection succeeds)...

Webcam problems with windows 7 profesional (64bits) RTM

hello the reason why I write this post is because last week my laptop model pavilium dv3-2155mx I put the windows 7 Professional (64 bit) RTM, everything is going well but the only problem is I can not use the webcam , windows 7 is the default options when download the drivers and see if the driver of the webcam is installed appears to me as if I were in the device manager under 'imaging devices'. The problem occurs when I open the "HP MediaSmart Webcam", to open that program should be off the camera from my laptop and see the image that is generating the webcam but the following appears:
"MediaSmart Webcam can not make the connection to the video device (HP Webcam). Select another capture device in the closed configuration options or applications that may be using this video device and restart SmartWebcam"
I do what that tells me there but nothing ... again receive the same message also tested with the "Cyberlink YouCam" and leaves the same, the same happens when I try to put it on Messenger, getting an error that can not start the webcam ... I would like to know what is happening and give me a solution for this problem because the windows 7 looks great and I do not want to go back to Windows Vista because Windows 7 is much faster and much better job with this, want a solution please to use my webcam in windows 7 I hope your answers thank you very much!!

Ideapad S10-3 Webcam Problem with Windows XP

Hi folks,
I own a Ideapad S10-3 shipped with Windows 7 Starter.
Because Windows XP is much faster on this machine, I installed Windows XP Professional SP3.
After Installation I downloaded all S10-3 Windows XP drivers available at the lenovo site for S10-3.
No installations problems so far, the webcam was working and recognized as Lenovo EasyCamera
Vendor ID: 5986 Product ID: 0190 Rev: 1409. Driver Provider is displayed as "Vimicro"
After a few days using the netbook, one day i started windows and the new hardware found wizard started and recognized a new USB Video device and installed the UVC driver from Windows. This "new" device has Vendor ID: 0ac8 and Product ID: 3450 Rev: 0130. The old webcam with the old IDs isnt shown anymore in the device manager. (only if you set var "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" and enable "show hidden devices")
When i try to use the webcam the light beside the webcam turns on, but no picture is displayed. No matter which program i try, the webcam isnt working anymore.
Because of the different device ID it isnt possible to install the lenovo webcam driver, but basically the webcam should work with the UVC driver provided by windows. I find it totaly strange that the webcam is showing up suddenly with a different device id.
When windows is running theres an process VM322_STI.exe running, its part of the Webcam driver and gets installed.
This is the second S10-3 Netbook on which i have this problem, i returned the first one because of this problem.
Is someone here, who is also using the S10-3 with XP or has an similar problem ?
EDIT: I read about the firmware update problems/issues with the old S10 models, but theres no Firmware on the S10-3 website i think, so i didn't think that i accidently flashed a wrong firmware to this webcam. I only used the Device manager to install the webcam driver. Or is it possible that the firmware is included in the driver package?

IT's working again... very strange ... the driver on the lenovo site for this webcam seems faulty, i uninstalled it, and after the reboot the old cam with the old device id is back in the device manager ... i now use the uvc driver and NEVER install the lenovo driver again... just because of the driver i returned my first s10-3 .
Also very interersting: After the cam didnt work in Windows XP anymore, i recovered the original Win7Starter from an complete hdd image (which i made before installing win XP) and in Win7 the cam wasn't working too. Because of that i never thought that it was a driver problem, because the driver and windows xp was deleted when i recovered the original win7.
so my recommendation: DO NOT install the lenovo driver, let Windows XP use its own UVC driver.

Webcam problems with iMac

Hi,
Just got a new imac - trying to get the camera to work with aMSN but a problem keeps popping up about a firewall or router problem.
I called Apple they tell me to call the router people - they router people ask for a "port number" (example: 21 or 80) call back the Apple people and no one has any idea what a port number is.
I'm stuck.
The router people know its a imac and that the camera is built in. I can't be the only one that has this problem, no?
Anyone found a solution?

Webcam issue with Equium U300-151 running Skype

Please can someone help. I have just purchased an Equium U300 151, and have found the web cam is not working. I use skype for my video over ip and all i see is a black screen.
Anyone got any ideas.

If you use the Vista OS then a SP1 should solve this annoying issue.

Overheating issues with Equium A60

Hi,
My laptop keeps turning off randomly, which after reading several posts on this forum are down to dust so I'm going to be clearing that later.
My major worry is that the vga + parallel ports are very hot to the touch. The USB, ethernet, modem, svideo ports are fine. Is this an effect of the dust inside or is it a different internal problem?
I did have my laptop taken away to be looked at after Christmas by PCWorld (its covered under their PC Performance Pay As You Go service) due to the laptop not taking charge, and it was found the power supply was faulty so have a new one at the moment.

These ports are near the DC in jack.
You have suggested that you have got the new AC adapter because the first one was dead.
Did you use the Toshiba recommend one with the same properties?
The original one supports power 120W Input 100~240V 50/60Hz (Universal) Output 19V x 6.3A. Check this and use the Toshiba recommended one because other AC adapters can damage the notebook!

Hp pavillion dv6700 webcam problem with windows 7

I have hp pavillion dv6700, which had Windows Vista originally. I upgraded to Windows 7 and the webcam doesn't work amymore. When I launch Cyberlink Youcam, i get message " No video detected, please install camera" I have updated BIOS and all windows update and nothing works. "Image Device" in not shown under device manager. Please help

Hello Abzozo1. I understand you're getting the "webcam not detected" error.
What is the exact product number of the notebook? This document can show you where it is located.
Has the webcam ever worked since you upgraded the operating system?
To ensure that you have all of the software installed properly I suggest installing the HP Software Framework and HP Support Assistant. You can then run HP Support Assistant and it will automatically install any missing software. If that doesn't resolve the issue I suggest you take a look at my thread located here. This thread covers the common solutions to this error.
Take a look at that thread and let me know if any of the steps help.

Equium A60 Volume

Hi chaps and chapesses
Hope you can help I have a problem with my A60, it is loud when playing through Windows Media with all it associated stuff like WOW but when using either AVRack, JetAudio or RealPlayer the volume is about half of the WM volume. In fact with iTunes it seems to play disjointedly, which means checking how the ipod will sound is a tad hard.
Also when playing through Jet it seems not to play music foregrond but in fact play backing over the forground.
Does any one have any ideas or should i become just a Windows media user and forget the decent players.
I am sorry if this is in the wrong place but any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

If I remember correctly, players such as Quicktime and Realplayer default their volume control to 50% and you need to change this to 100% to get full volume. Sorry if you have already done this, but it has caught me out in the past.
