WebLogic 4.5.1- Japanese Display with JSPs

Hello
I have the following environment:
Windows NT4- Japanese
WebLogic 4.5.1 with SP7
JDK1.2 (without Japanese supplement)
I tried a sample JSP to display "Hello World" in Japanese.
Japanese characters are not displayed. I find some redundant characters.
I have set encoding=SJIS in WebLogic.properties.
I have also set
<%@ page "contentType = text/html; charset =SJIS"; %>
in JSP.
Is there any other setting that I have missed out?
I tried writing a preloaded servlet that displays Hello World in
Japanese
with WebLogic App Server. I added the servlet reference in
WebLogic.properties. It works fine.
I guess that output of WebLogic JSP Compiler has redundant characters
instead of "Hello World "Japanese characters.
Any feedback would be of help.
Thanks for your patience.
I have just reproduced the sample JSP I wrote:
<html>
<head>
<title>Hello World</title>
</head>
<%@ page "contentType = text/html; charset =SJIS"; %>
<body >
<H1>Test</H1>
<H1>“ú–{Œê ƒeƒXƒg  </H1>
</body>
</html>
Regards

How do you specify the settings of JSPServlet. I think the default encoding
setting is iso8859-1, I've used encoding=UTF8, it works for me on showing
CJK characters.
I also wonder charset="SJIS" is correct, should it be "Shift_JIS" ?
Check your browser, Japanese fonts installed?

  • Japanese characters display with wrong encoding all of a sudden...

    I had no issues before when it came to typing in Japanese in DW using the windows language bar , I would just change the keyboard to JP(japanese) and then start typing within DW code view, but then one day after doing updating my main template and using the find and replace feature in DW all the Japanese characters turned into question marks, diamonds with question marks and ASCII alphanumeric codes..
    also the spaces in my documents  turned into blocks. It was a mess,
    *I don't know if it was something I triggered accidentaly or if it was some type of bug....I also remember copying and pasting text and Japanese characters from another website that I created(but I had done that a dozen times before and it was never a problem).
    Long story short, after not being able to find a solution I decided to manually delete the weird symbols and start over, I typed in Japanese using the windows language bar as always and began typing away inside the same pages that displayed those weird characters (sorry I don't know what the proper name for them is)and it accepted the Japanese characters with no issues, it was working just like it did before.
    but my question is "What happened?" was that a bug in DW or was it something on my end?
    I would like to know so I can fix the problem incase this happens again.
    I've always had utf-8 as the charset and it's never been an issue. (and I all my pages are saved as utf-8 as well)
    --Which is why I am confused why all the Japanese got messed up.
    Here is the head code of one of the pages that had the problem:
    Thank you.

    Without seeing an actual page, it's impossible to say what happened, but the most likely explanation is that you did something wrong. Asian characters, such as Japanese, require correct encoding. If the encoding is incorrect, you end up with mojibake.
    I suspect that what happened is that you copied and pasted from Shift-JIS or EUC-JP encoding into a different encoding. It's quite possible that your page was set to iso-8859-1 (Western European) without realizing.
    By the way, your head code didn't show up in your post.

  • Best way to create, modify, XML with JSP ?  HELP

    Hi friends,
    As i am new to XML,
    I know there are two APIs used for XML processing, i want to know as a begineer level, which API
    is easy and good to implement XML with JSP.
    1) SAX
    2) DOM
    i want to make a log file in XML, so on web page it will be displayed on HTML form through XSL.
    Since there is good tutorial on http://www.w3schools.com/dom
    but i think its HTML dom
    I want XML procession through JAVA CODE , what should i use ? and give some good tutorials on XML DOM
    that is used with JAVA / JSP.
    HELP.
    Edited by: Ghanshyam on Sep 19, 2007 3:24 PM

    Well what i think is you gonna checkout with your requirements before implementing any of the popular XML parsing mechnisms.
    If you are intrested in faster processing @sacrifising a gud amount of your Memory,DOM is the one which you are looking for.
    If you are instrested in Managing your memory and but if you are ok with sacrifising speed SAX is the best solution.it works on what is called a push technology.
    and if you think either way you might have to look towards a pull parser which is StAX (Streaming API for XML Parsing)
    it'd be a gr8 idea if you can go through the below article which explians about each of the parsing mechanisms
    http://www.stylusstudio.com/xml/parser.html#*
    coming back to helpful resources as far java is concern checkout the below link which might be of some help.
    and the main thing is that all of these parser there is a defined specification you might find implementations of different vendors on this.
    eg:Sun Provides one with JDK itself,same as IBM provides one,oracle does the same & so on...
    your first task would be to focus on one such implementation which can cater your requirements.

  • Modifying the HttpClusterServlet to display a .jsp for outage window

    We have Weblogic Server 8.1 and we use IIS for our web server (not my choice). Since we use IIS, we have to use a HttpClusterServlet to act as a proxy since the BEA plug-in for IIS only supports forwarding to one port.
              We are about to have a huge database server outage (don't ask) this coming weekend which will break all of our apps, and I need to figure out a good way to display an outage message. We have a ton of applications, that have a bunch of different URIs. I don't know of an easy way to display an "outage" page so users don't get errors. I was wondering, since all our web apps traffic goes thru the HttpClusterServlet, there may be a way to modify it, and make it just display a .jsp or .html page.
              Is there a way to do this, or an easier way to handle it?
              Thanks in advance for any help!

    NullPointer indicates it is a Java Error and nothing to do with JSP.
    send us the JSP to debug more.
    Try one thing
    have a try-catch block running for your entire JSP and then try to print console messages in every Java lines of code u have.

  • SQL query with JSP and WML-parameters

    Hey,
    Could you help me?
    I'm trying to do the following. WML deck card 1 send parameter to same WML deck's card help. I try to read the parameter with JSP in card help by putting the parameter to SQL query, but it doesn't work. I can read the parameter with WML in card help. I can also print the value of the parameter with JSP if I generate WML with JSP.
    /*parameter sending from card 1 to card help*/
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    out.println("<setvar name='valittukurssi' value='$(valittukurssi)'/>");
    /*parameter read with WML in card help */
    <p>Valitse kurssi.
    $valittukurssi</p>
    /'parameter read with JSP by generating WML with JSP*/
    out.println("<p>$valittukurssi</p>");
    /* SQL query with JSP */
    ResultSet uudettulokset = uusilause.executeQuery("select * from kurssi where lyhenne='$valittukurssi'");
    Thanks,
    Rampe

    You're problem is easy to fix. You're confusing WML variables with JSP variables. See below:
    >
    /*parameter sending from card 1 to card help*/
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    out.println("<setvar name='valittukurssi'
    value='$(valittukurssi)'/>");
    Above you set a var that will work on the phone, not in JSP.
    /*parameter read with WML in card help */
    <p>Valitse kurssi.
    $valittukurssi</p>
    Yes the above does display the parameter, because it is a client side WML var, but you cannot use this variable in the JSP code (that's why your SWL fails).
    /'parameter read with JSP by generating WML with
    JSP*/
    out.println("<p>$valittukurssi</p>");Here's you're problem, the above line is EXACTLY the same as the one before it. When the container parses through this JSP code it translates the above line to:
    <p>$valittukurssi</p> on the WML page and the CLIENT uses it's local variable to display it.
    What you need and want is to have a variable that can be used in JSP code and output to your WML page. Here's how it's done:
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    String some_name = "valittukurssi";
    out.println("<setvar name='"+some_name+"'
    value='$("+some_name+")'/>");
    //note that you may have to escape the ( and ) with a \
    //so we displayed the variable above into the WML page, now we can use it in the SQL query:
    /* SQL query with JSP */
    ResultSet uudettulokset =
    uusilause.executeQuery("select * from kurssi where
    lyhenne='"+some_name+"'");//the end of the command is: " ' " ) ;

  • OS issue in Display of JSP

    Hi all,
    I am new with JSP. and i am facing a problem that i have made the my Jsp Files in Vista and trying to run in Windows XP.
    But it is showing error. While Selecting from a menu a sub menu displays .this sub menu is over lapped by the dropdown in the page.

    you could make the JSP in edit under dos if you want, the OS you use makes no difference. It is a simple text file at the very lowest level. The browser you are using is causing the troubles. Perhaps it is a difference between internet explorer 6 and 7? Browser incompatibilities are a better area to search for your solution in my opinion.

    Edited by: user10243594 on Sep 10, 2008 10:22 AM

    The "jsp:directive.include" tag is only valid in an well-formed XML file that specifies all the relevant namespaces. The "jsp:include" tag is used in a JSP file. I'll bet the beginning of your file shows that you don't have a valid and well-formed XML file.
    If you found that "jsp:include" worked, then that confirms you have an ordinary JSP file here. Why are you trying to use the XML form? The result of "jsp:include" in a JSP file will be exactly the same as the analogous tag in an XML file.

    So thanks to everyone who can give me a good hint.
    Bye.

    Without really looking too much into this it looks like the problem is with the way in which you are trying to open the file. I believe that when creating a File object you need to use a physical path. By using the getWebResourcePath() method you are retrieving the URL to this file and not the physical path name. There is another method (can't remember the exact name) called getPublicResourcePath() (or something similar) which will return the physical path to this file, i.e. c:\usr\sap\.....etc. If you try it this way it may well work
    I hope this helps

  • Problems with JSP

    We are working with J2EE technology.
    We have J2EE 1.3.1 an Forte4j in Windows 95 and Windows 98 system operatings
    When we compile and them, we want to run a JSP page the internet explorer opens and dont do anything more.
    Must we configure something for the correct runnig of JSP pages?
    We dont have internet connection

    ok to run jsp you don't need to be connected to internet because you can run them locally but you need to have IIS (or apache or whatever server) on your machine. Tomcat is an appserver(application server) not a web server (which is apache or IIS). So Tomcat has be use with IIS to display your jsp pages, but now since you don't have a web server that is why it can't display them.
    First you should install IIS, here's how you do that: Start/settings/control_panel/add&remove programs
    once you open that "wizard" choose the add windows components button(3rd down on left) and insert you windows disk. Once you'll be done with that you'll be ask to choose the component you want, so checked Internet Information Service follow the instructions and reboot.
    To check if it's up and running
    Start/Settings/Administrative Tools/Internet Informatin Services(IIS)
    click on your computer name to see if it's running, if not start it.
    Then you have to configure Tomcat to use IIS to display its pages, I never used Tomcat so I can't help you on that (check their website for installation instruction).
    Once your sever and appserver will be setuped, you also need to make sure you deploy your pages in the right directory of your webapps so IE finds them.
    on a last note you should read the J2EE and Tomcat specifications so you'll know what you're working with and how to setup it properly.
    anyway good luck
