WebLogic Enterprise Edition Vs. WebLogic Basic

Hello,
Before the holidays, we were quoted a low price for purchasing WebLogic 11g Enterprise Edition. Our sales person has changed tactics and is now telling us after a month of negotiating a price for using Weblogic 11g Enterprise Edition that we can now use WebLogic Basic for free.
Our reason for purchasing Weblogic is to run Discoverer 11g and Jdeveloper 11g applications.
Please Advise regarding which version of WebLogic we should consider using.
Regards,
Kelly

Basic is not standard. they are different things from a licensing perspective, although all of it is the same software.
basic is what the iAS EE customers were told they could use that is included with their iAS EE licensing.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/doc.1111/e14860/wls_basic.htm
It has its own set of restrictions, independent of Standard.
All editions of the products Oracle Internet Application Server and Oracle Forms and Reports Server include rights to WebLogic Server Basic. WebLogic Server Basic is only for running components provided within these products such as Forms, Reports, Discoverer and Portal. It can also be used for custom Java applications such as those developed for Oracle Containers for J2EE.

  • Weblogic Enterprise or Standard Edition

    Hello there,
Could anyone please advise if it's possible to find out whether you're running Weblogic 11g Standard or Enterprise edition?
There doesn't seem to be any details in the console apart from the version (10.3.1).
    Any help greatly appreciated !

    Hi,
There is only one WebLogic Server software download. Whether you need a WebLogic Server Enterprise Edition or a WebLogic Suite license depends on whether you use the premium components which are included in the WebLogic Server Enterprise Edition or WebLogic Suite licenses.
For WebLogic Server 11g, the packaging is as follows:
    WebLogic Server Standard Edition:
                 includes WebLogic Server
                             Kodo Enterprise
                             TopLink and ADF
                             JDeveloper
                             Enterprise Pack for Eclipse
    WebLogic Server Enterprise Edition:
                 includes WebLogic Server Standard Edition
                              + Clustering
                              +Enterprise Manager Diagnostics Pack
    WebLogic Suite:
                 includes WebLogic Server Enterprise Edition
                              + Coherence EE
                              + JRockit Real Time
                              + Management Pack for Coherence
                              + iAS EE (on WebLogic)
                              + WL Operations Control
    Thanks,
    Sharmela

  • Weblogic 10gR3 standard edition and enterprise edition

Difference between weblogic 10gR3 standard edition and enterprise edition ??

WebLogic Server software is the same in all of the various download distributions available that vary on platform and 32/64 bit architecture. However, which features are licensed for use vary by the edition customers license, which is covered here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e14860/products.htm#i1041725
That link is for WLS 11g, but it applies generally to WLS 10.3.0 as well.

  • Does Weblogic 8.1 has standard or enterprise edition?

Casue i found in registry.xml, there is so called 'BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1' only. Thanks.

WebLogic Server installers write the WebLogic Platform name to the registry file. You should have a component name of WebLogic Server in that file also. This indicates that WebLogic Server has been installed. The same WLS installation is used to support all WebLogic Server product/license types - there is not a "Standard Edition" vs. and "Enterprise Edition" WebLogic Server installation. The difference between "Standard Edition" and "Enterprise Edition" is a difference in license entitlement. You probably have the right WLS installation for either one.

  • How to install Weblogic Standar Edition 10.3.6

Is weblogic standard edition supported on 64-bit OS (Linux) ? Where can i download file for this edition ? All I can find is generic installer but there are all options available including cluster and EM, there is pdf that said clustering and EM is not suported in standard edition, only in enterprise and on different instances. I'm confused, can I do basic clustering of managed servers in same machine or not ?

    Yes it can be done...
you can download them and only one change between standard and enterprise is licences if you are using for Dev then there is no issue if it is Prod then you need to check with sale team regarding this.

  • Weblogic server edition

    Hi, all
How can I find weblogic server edition? (Enterprise or standard)

    Hi,
It is not any specific version or edition.
Standard or Enterprise is purely based on the License based if you are using advance then license will be taking for Enterprise if you are using normal one like simple server and cluster and datasource then Standard license is enough.
    Hope you got difference.

  • Weblogic Enterprise manager with Oracle Portal

    Hi All,
Iam working on a architecture defination which is basically a B2B and B2C based web applications. I intially thought the Oracle Portal+Oracle BPM as the right combination as it gives a complete technical stack as well as we will have a well defined control over the integrations.
Since the application requires high sclability and high transactions support, wanted to choose Weblogic Enterprise manager instead of oracle AS. In this context i have following quoestions
    1. Will the Oracle Portal+Oracle Discoverer+Portlets(PLSQL, JAVA) can be ported onto WEBLOGIC Enterprise manager server?
    2. What is the feature of OracleASOC4J?
Request to respond on this as quicly as possible
    Advance Thanks,
    Sreedhar

Truncated. see log file for complete stacktraceIt appears that there's a logging library conflict somewhere. I haven't installed any of my own applications at all, only extended the domain with the two features described above. Can anyone help?

Just completely uninstalled everything and tried again. The problem seems to have disappeared.
I can't be sure, but suspect one of the following fixed it:
    - I had JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 installed to the same Oracle Middleware home. This could have been where the conflicting library was coming from. Second time around I didn't install JDeveloper.
    - When I reinstalled WebLogic, I unchecked 'Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse'
    - When I reinstalled WebLogic, I didn't install the Oracle JRockit JDK

  • Weblogic Enterprise 5.1 and threads

I know when building servers based on WLE 4.2 in was a big no-no to link in threading libraries like pthread and thread. Is this still the case in Weblogic Enterprise 5.1?

According to the product information, WLE 5.1 does not support Oracle 8.1.6, it
    only goes up to
Oracle 8.1.5. But in general, I thought that with oracle there are 2 sets of
    libraries, one for threads and
one for non-threaded support. You need to use the correct one, in the case of
    WLE, that would be the
    non-threaded one.

    Thanks Mary,
Do you know of any customers who have managed to work
with Oracle 8.1.6 without linking with the thread libraries ?

WLE 5.1 C++ is not a threaded product. Compiling WLE 5.1 C++ with thread
libraries is not supported and will give unpredictable results for allprograms.
    This should not be done.

    Hi Mary,
Is it a dictate from BEA that you "can't" link with thread libraries ?
We are using WLE 5.0.1 ( and some 5.1) with Oracle 8.1.6 on
Solaris and found that we had to link using -lthread in order to use
Oracle (not the case in 8.1.5)
We don't actually attempt to try any threading in our apps and
have not had any problems yet but if it's the case that there
are known problems using threads we'd love to hear about
    them :-)
As an aside, is Oracle 8.1.6 cleared for use by WLE ?

No matter how WLE 5.1 C++ is used, it cannot be compiled with threadedlibraries, so that restriction remains.
A WLE C++ server can act as a client and call a WLE Java Server. Doingthis does not require the WLE C++ server to be compiled with threaded
    libraries.

Does this also mean if CORBA C++ servers want to invoke threaded

WLE 5.1 does not have threads in the C++ clients or servers. Java

  • WebLogic Enterprise 5.1: Which version of Tuxedo included?

    Hi,
can you tell me, which version of Tuxedo is included in WebLogic Enterprise
    5.1?
    Thanks,
    Marita

    Marita,
My understanding is that it is a version of Tuxedo based on v6.5, but not
released in any form other than as the deployment engine for WLE 5.x
Tuxedo 8.0 (which includes the C++ CORBA support formerly only available as part
of the "WLE" product obviously shares a single Tuxedo kernel between ATMI and CORBA
Of course, as with all Tuxedo versions, the version underpining WLE 5.x will
interoperate with other supported versions, so the exact version shouldn't be a
    cause for concern.

    Peter.

  • Spring Facet not available in Weblogic Enterprise Pack for Eclipse?

Hi guys, just wondering if the Spring Facet will be available for the Weblogic Enterprise Pack for Eclipse? If yes, when can we expect this to be released?

Spring Facet and other integration with Spring IDE will be in the next release of Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse, which will ship in the next couple of months.

  • Weblogic Virtual Edition

    Hello Everyone,
just one question, will the Weblogic Virtual Edition be continued?
    Where can I download it?
    Best Regards
    Frank

That's what we plan to do so hopefully we've got a nice solution. We are also looking at using the vmware FT feature for our database server which is MS SQLServer - that has to be tested though.
We're not a very big installation and there was no way Oracle were going to budge when we spoke to them about it and the sales in licenses from us, isn't going to make much of a dent in their bottom line! Whilst they have the business approach that you only need one company for software as Oracle do everything - vmware isn't going to get a look-in!
I'm starting to get slightly irritated with Oracle - we are a simple WebLogic Server installation + Oracle Service bus.....because of the packaging of the products, it's becoming very hard not to find yourself buying a whole load of stuff that you really have no need for. WebLogic Suite is an example of that - I don't want the rest that comes with it, I want WebLogic server .....yes, you can buy it individually, but they don't make it easy. I dread the day we have to do an OSB upgrade to the latest version, it's just not fun!
Coming from the BEA world, licensing and product structure used to be simple and flexible - IMO now, it's a complete mass of confusion and looking for the latest version of something is not something I look forward to any more!! If you have the "WebLogic Suite" license, you can use pretty much everything you can see on OTN, if you haven't, you haven't a clue what you can use or not!
    Sorry, that's my moan over!
Back when WLS-VE came out, we did have it running as a virtual machine and it was quite attractive. We didn't have any NFS storage that we could use for it at the time, so we didn't take it further, but now it's only for OVM it's not something we will entertain anymore which is a shame.
