Webpage in Dreamweaver

I've created a webpage in Dreamweaver and have uploaded the
index page; it's not working cause when typing in the web address
it doesn't direct to the index page, only works if I type
/index.htm in the end. What havent I done?

Some hosting company's have the site setup to use index.html
or default.html
and some have a control panel so you can chose what you want
to use.

  • How do I create a webpage in Dreamweaver WITHOUT using layers?

I'm reading a lot about how we should not use layers and
tables when creating a website in Dreamweaver because of something
called "absolute placement" (or something), which is the reason the
text in my website is constantly misaligned or overlapping when
opened up in Firefox. Although, I've never had this problem before
for the past three years I've been using Dreamweaver to create my
sites, which is what's most frustrating I think.
So, I guess I'm wondering how, then, do I create a webpage in
Dreamweaver WITHOUT using layers and tables? The only thing I've
been able to do w/o layers/tables is to literally hit "enter" and
"tab" continuously until the cursor is somewhere close to where I
want it to be on the page. But that seems a little old-school (for
lack of a better term) to really be the way to do it.
Also, if I've used a lot of layers/tables already in my
website, is the general recommendation for be to rebuild my site
completely w/o layers/tables, or is it feasible for me to have
someone who knows HTML just come in and fix the actual HTML code
for me to make it all work?
Ideally, I just want something to help me fix this problem
w/o having to hire someone else to come in, cause I've been working
this site for about a year now and am just now finally getting it
up online only to find that the way it looks online is not the way
it looks in Dreamweaver. I'd really really appreciate any
    suggestions/advice.
    Thank you so much!

    Hello,
The first bit of advice, which you may already be doing, it
    to learn HTML
    and CSS.
CSS is used to style and position elements.
Instead of adding numerous   to add spacing, for
    example, you can use
CSS to add margins or padding to elements to move them away
    from other
    elements.
Also, IMHO there is nothing wrong with using tables,
    specially as you learn.
You can also use <divs> and CSS to position them (a
    table-less layout).
There are a number of threads in this forum comparing them
    and giving many
    designer's views.
It's Dreamweaver's "Layout Mode" you should stay away
    from.Use "Standard
    Mode"
It creates tables with rowspanss and colspans that are very
    fragile.
Something as simple as a user having a different text size
    setting in their
browser than what you had in yours when you designed can make
    the page break
    apart.
    More info:
    http://apptools.com/rants/spans.php
Also, "Layers" are an older DW term for AP Divs (Absolutely
    Positioned).
They can cause you a lot of frustration.
    More info:
    http://apptools.com:80/examples/pagelayout101.php
I would strongly suggest you take a couple of hours to do
    these tutorials.
They are a great introduction to using CSS, making a
    stylesheet and using
    DW's "wizards".
They are very well written, illustrated and easy to follow.
I promise you will walk away with a different outlook on how
    you can design
    a page.
They are not intended to replace learning HTML or CSS in any
    way, I just
think it will benefit you greatly seeing what you can do.

    http://projectseven.com/tutorials/css/qdmacfly/index.htm
    I hope that helps.

  • Adding Silverlight to a webpage with Dreamweaver

I recently created a free Dreamweaver extension for adding Silverlight 2.0 & 3.0  .XAP file to a  webpage / website.
http://www.GJHDigital.com and click the Free Dreamweaver Extensions link.

I have viewed your website and it appears either unloved or just not fi
nished. Images are not showing and your Silverlight 1.0 extension does not work for
me. I guess Adobe don't consider your work a completed project at this stage.
I would like to use DW to create a photographic wall using Silverlight. I'm too much into coding mowadays. Too slow. I am playing with Pivot and Deep Zoom but I'm finding it difficult to control what is happening to the images when I roll the mouse without getting involved with the code.

  • How to enter excell formulas into a webpage using Dreamweaver CS4

I am new at dreamweaver and recently purchased CS4 web premium. I also bought some training videos from an Abode affilated training center on dreamweaver CS4. I was wondering how to create or hide formulas into a webpage. I am trying to enter my MS excel calculator into a webpage. Can anyone help me?
    thanks
    Mike

Unfortunately this will not work directly in DW.
You probably have 2 alternatives and that is, A - use JavaScript (if you are new to DW/webdesign probably not an option). B - See if there is an extension or plug-in for doing something similar.
For pre-built extensions for DW try:   http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=productHome&exc=3&loc=en_us
An alternative (you would have to copy/paste the code yourself would be one of the following (also check with the Microsoft site as this is (hopefully) something that may have come up before)).

  • Trying to download Dreamweaver CC. Webpage says "Dreamweaver is downloading now..." but it is not!

Tried to download Dreamweaver for the last 24 hours. Everytime, the webpage says it is downloading, but thats it. It is not downloading. Sat on that page yesterday for hours, nothing. Today deleted all items in tmp folder, tried again. Same thing. Says its downloading, but it is not. Any ideas? I have a one year subscription to CC so not sure..

Download the Creative Cloud Desktop App, then do all of your CC downloads/installs from there. It stops browser settings or add-ons from interfering with your download.

  • Edit PHP Webpage in Dreamweaver

    Hi All,
I have Dreamweaver CS5 and I want to edit the design only for a website which is written in PHP.  By design I mean things like changing the page layout, change the font type, size, etc.
But I only have one PC and I do not have internet. So what can I do to edit the website design?
Can I use an external hard drive as an external server? Or can I set up a virtual drive on my PC?
Or for a website in PHP do I even need to edit the design in PHP, or can I edit it in HTML?
    Thanks.

  • How to insert a Bridge photo gallery into a webpage with Dreamweaver

I have made the changes to the web gallery index page (from Bridge) as indicated in http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/gallery/embed3.php  in DW.  However, I normally do not use DW, but need to now.  I have the new web page where I want the gallery to appear, but am currently stuck.  I need a very clear, basic step by step instruction as to how to insert the gallery/index page.  Below is the DW code screen from the new page where I want it to appear (not sure if this is needed).  Thanks for your help!  Ron

Also, to simplify things, you could use an <iframe> to bring your bridge gallery index.html page into your DW web page.

  • How do you embed a Lightroom 3 Slideshowpro web gallery into webpage using Dreamweaver CS5?

I watched the YouTube video by Rafael "RC" Concepcion for incorporating Lightroom into Dreamweaver CS4 but I'm using Dreamweaver CS5 and his method did not work on my Mac system.  Does anyone have a step-by-step way or video?

One way to do it is put each gallery in its own subdirectory of your main page (you can use multiple sub galleries) and then have the main page in the root that links to the index.html files in each subdirectory. If your main page is not in the root you have to add the appropriate structure in the return link in the lightroom created gallery "Web or Mail Link" setting.
In the main page the link to my NATURE page would be   ../nature/index.html
Then in the Lightroom created NATURE page you can use the "Contact Info" or "Identity Plate" (This can be graphical as shown on my page)     "Web or Mail Link" setting to return to the main page using      ../index.html

  • How to make and style a webpage in Dreamweaver by David Powers

I cannot find the Insert tab the way the second training video shows (on a panel going down the right hand side of my Dreamweaver in Spanish). The video shows, that one can choose between "Files" and "Insert".
When I go to the Window menu ("ventana" in Spanish) and selected "Insert" (it adds or deletes a checkmark), this has no effect on the right hand side, where my panels appear. It has an effect on the top bars, where I see the tabs: "Common", "Design", "Forms", etc. I can see the "div" element at the "Common" and "Design" tabs. But I cannot find the "Header" item, as instructed in the video. I want to continue Davis' instructions after inserting the "div" element!
I am using the "Classic" display.
    Please help me!

See my answer in the other thread.

  • Center Spry Basic Image Slideshow on the webpage in Dreamweaver Cs6   ?

Hi, I'm working on a Website for a client in Dreamweaver CS6: northstarconservancy.org. How do I center the Spry Basic Image Slideshow on the pages? I've tried a few options and nothing has been effective, anyone? Thanks, Amanda

It would be easier to give you exact instructions if we could see your page. Do you have a link you could share?
In general, place a div on your page and give it the basic css for centering...
    #divid {
width:800px; (you can change the 800 to whatever width your slideshow uses)
         margin:auto;
Then place your slideshow within that div in your html...
<div id="divid"> all your spry slideshow info </div>
As long as you haven't used APDivs, or position:absolute on your site, which you should never do unless absolutely necessary (pun kindof intended), the div that the slideshow resides in will be centered within it's container.

Please spend a few minutes reading other posts here on this
    forum to get a
sense for the 'culture'. You will discover -
    1. That you should use a more descriptive subject line
    *always*
    2. That you will rarely get good answers without also
    supplying a link to
an uploaded page so we can see your page and its code
    3. That *all* answers are in the code
    4. That you will have to learn some HTML and CSS to a)
    understand how DW

    Can you do that?

  • How can i create a 3 column webpage using Dreamweaver MX?

    Hello,
I was able to create a website with 1 column pages using Dreamweaver MX. I have about 5 pages. I want to add more content to each page; the only way I can do that is to add more columns per page.
I have tried many times but just not getting done. Is there a tutorial on how to do this? What buttons to press?

    Hi dear fdfdeedfas,
I propose we give that thing a little bit from a philosophical and relaxed view. I've decided at that time for a DW CS5, what was as I know now a small advantage for me. You got somewhere else an advantage, I'm sure. In the end, everything balances out.
To make it pragmatically, I suggest to look around at DW support, possibly via chat, on what terms you can upgrade. You probably have already found the links to it, if not I think these one would be the right for more:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/dreamweaver/downloads_updaters.html
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
or, where you can download a free trial of Dreamweaver CS5:

There is no relationship between saving your document and being able to upload it. What does affect your ability to upload documents is how you have defined the site. Can I assume that you are working within a previously defined DW site that has proper FTP credentials specified, and that you can Test that connection successfully?

Im using dreamweaver and i want to make some of my pages restricted, ive gone through the adobe walkthroughs but there isn't an option to create server behaviours. Is there a way around this?

    Hello Ben,
in addition to Mark's hint: If you do it of yourself you have to deal with these ".htaccess" and ".htpasswd" files. I didn't struggle to write them of myself, I used the provider's (ISP) service. The advantage is, that the two files (.htaccess and .htpasswd) are created simultaneously and systemconform.
You too will find this offer, I am sure, at your provider's website. See screenshot of mine ("Passwortschutz" is something like "password protection).
