Webservice: Problem passing long string 8k

Hi,
I have a webservice who receives a string parameter (xml). I send it a string shorter than 8 kb a no problem but when I send a long string longer than 8 kb, it has problems.
Do someone know how can I fix this?
Where can I modify this value?
regards.

Thanks for your recomendations, The problem is still there. I'm doing a POST.
I already did the same sample in CF9 and I don't have the problem there. The only diference is the that the CF9 is a physical server with Win Server 2008 R2 and the CF 10 is a virtual with WIn Server 08 R2.

I am trying to passa a long string to a shell process through java,
call is like
Runtime rtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
String callAndArgs[] = {"/apps/jetty4/jstest/jstest.sh",jarCo,queue,text};
Process child = rtime.exec(callAndArgs);
here the string text is :
|HEADER|JAR933|[email protected]|290001|OL0006528|WIN4015444|SHAFT_FORGING|1.0|Baan EDM|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Now i use this string in shell script to pass as an argument to other class. But the string gets truncated.
How do i solve this?

It appears that your os is truncating the data - Java's not involved.
Maybe write the data to a file and then read it into the external program some way.

• StAX XMLStreamReader getTextCharacters() problem withj long strings

Hi,
I am reading long hexidecimal strings that are within elements in xml using StAX and with long hexidecimal strings I seem to be losing the end of these strings. I am creating XMLStreamReader and I tried using getText() and this was not returning anything but using getTextCharacters() seems to work until I get these long strings. Here is the code I am using for processing a CHARACTERS event:
import javax.xml.stream.XMLInputFactory;
import javax.xml.stream.XMLStreamConstants;
import javax.xml.stream.XMLStreamException;
import javax.xml.stream.XMLStreamReader;
if(event == XMLStreamConstants.CHARACTERS){
int start = reader.getTextStart();
int length = reader.getTextLength();
char[] textCharacters = reader.getTextCharacters();
String text = (new String(textCharacters,start,length)).trim();
int containsHexInt = text.indexOf("0x");
if(currentElement.equals("attrid")){
attributeIdString = text;
}else if(currentElement.equals("symbol")){
symbolString = text;
}else if(currentElement.equals("value") && containsHexInt != -1){
if(transactionsTimeStamp==null){ transactionsTimeStamp=DateUtil.getNowInAcFormat();
if(staxCompoundsDocument == null){
staxCompoundsDocument = new StAXCompoundsDocument(
outputFileName, transactionsTimeStamp, exlusionFilePath );
staxCompoundsDocument.outputDocumentHead();
staxCompoundsDocument.addCompound(transTimeStamp,fileTrans,
symbolString,attributeIdString, parseHex(text),state,userid);
I am using jsr173_api.jar though I don't have the version number for this.
If anyone could help me explain this it would be real help. I am guessing it may be down to using buffers under the covers for StAX but don't know exactly how this works.
Thanks in advance
Rob

Thanks DrClap,
that was the problem, having not worked with StAX before I didn't know it could behave like this :(
So I had a look at the documentation and tried setting the IS_COALESCING property but it seems the implementation of StAX that we have doesn't support this :( and doesn't have the methods isCoalescing :( and I don't have enough influence to change that.
So I have had to set up my looping through events like the following pseudo code :
if event != CHARACTERS && stringBuffer.length > 0
process characters
make stringBuffer empty
do some event processing
if event == CHARACTERS
add the characters to the string buffer
If there is a better way of doing this I'd like to know but at least I have something that works at the moment.
Thanks

• How to pass a string longer than 30 to an Export Parameter in a PI sheet ?

Hi All,
I'm trying to set up a process instruction in a PI sheet that calls a URL web page.
I found the function module CALL_BROWSER and tested it in SE37 and it works fine.
I created a process instruction to call this function module and pass parameters to it.
Everything works if the URL is short. For example:
0010   PPPI_BUTTON_TEXT          Show URL
0020   PPPI_FUNCTION_NAME          CALL_BROWSER
0030   PPPI_FUNCTION_DURING_DISPLAY     allowed
0040   PPPI_EXPORT_PARAMETER          URL
0075   PPPI_STRING_CONSTANT          http://www.google.com
This is where I ran into a roadblock.
The characteristic PPPI_STRING_CONSTANT is only 30 characters long.
I can't figure out how to pass an export parameter longer than 30 characters.
I have also tried loading up multiple PPPI_VARIABLE(s) with the idea of some how combining them into a single long string that I can pass, but no luck figuring out how.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Kind Regards
Michael

Thanks Dario, this is good information, but it does not directly solve my problem.
I think I have figured out an approach, but was hopeing someone else had a standard solution.
If I don't here something soon, I will try the following:
Create a new function moduel as a shell or wrapper that calls the standard FM RUN_Browser.
My shell will have 5 input parameters URLP1 thru URLP5.
I can then pass a long URL to my shell in 5 parts.
Inside my shell, the 5 parts will be joined up into 1 long string and passed on to the URL parameter in RUN_Browser.
If anyone has a better idea, please let me know.
Kind Regards

• Passing a long string from Vb to stored proc

Hi,
I am passing a long string from Vb to this stored proc ..
defn:
Create Or Replace Procedure saveTaxFormInDB(intFormUID IN number,
intCLUID IN number,
PDFdata IN varchar2,
Status IN OUT Varchar2) AS
Problem lies with the string pdfdata. I am sending it from VB as:
Set cmdParamStr = cmdAdoCmd.CreateParameter("Data", adVarChar,
adParamInput, 32767, strData)
I have checked the parameters in VB while sending and I have the
correct string argument to be passed to "PDFData", But i am not
sure if it is getting the value correctly.
Because I know that the code is raising exception while
accessing PDFData. (eg. in places like insert ..(pdfdata) and
length(pdfdata)...)
Please advise how i can solve this problem.
Please Note that the string is not VERY large. I do not need to
use LOBS in any way. the string is definitely within the limits
of varchar2(which i think is 4000 chars.. correct me if i am
wrong).
Many thanks

what is the backend MS SQl server or Oracle.??
If it is MS SQLSERVER, then
1.Create a SqlCommand object with the parameters as the name of the stored procedure that is to be executed and the connection object con to which the command is to be sent for execution.
SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("Name of StoredProcedure",con);
2.Change the command objects CommandType property to stored procedure.
command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
3.Add the parameters to the command object using the Parameters collection and the SqlParameter class.
command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@parametername",SqlDbType.Int,0,"Filedname"));
4.Specify the values of the parameters using the Value property of the parameters
command.Parameters[0].Value=4;
command.Parameters[1].Value="ABC";
If it is oracle,
OracleConnection con = new OracleConnection("uid=;pwd=");
try
con.Open();
OracleCommand spcmd = new OracleCommand("Name of StoredProcedure");
spcmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
spcmd.Connection = con;
spcmd.Parameters.Add("empid", OracleType.Number, 5).Value = txtEmpid.Text;
spcmd.Parameters.Add("sal", OracleType.Number, 5).Value = txtSal.Text;
spcmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
}

• LONG string formatting problem- do you have answers?

Hi,
When I start my movie, I am trying to set a variable using a LONG string- concatenating "text" and getAt(x,y). I saw a solution some time ago utilizing backslashes. i keep getting the error message "variable used befroe assigned a value".
My variable is "bodder" and the string is "I can't get there until " & getAt(x,y) & ". You may have to ask a co-worker for a ride, or catch the next commuter train."
"bodder" is included as a global.
My code is: bodder = string( "I can't get there until " & getAt(x,y) & ". You may have to ask a co-worker for a ride, " \
"or catch the next commuter train.")
Thanks in advance.

Joshua,
I just used 'x' and 'y' in my post to fill-in the blanks.
I have a list with a different name, which I access/reference throughtout the movie successfully.

• Passing (byref) String from Java to C++ via JNI

I wish to pass a string to a C++ Dll as a parameter in a function. The problem is that I don't know howto receive back the data after it is filled in the C++ dll. I am trying to do what is called passing parameters by reference.
Java Code:
public class ABKeyBoard {
public native long leerBanda(int pista, String datos);
public static void main(String[] args) {
String datos=new String();
System.loadLibrary("ABKeyBoard");
new ABKeyBoard().leerBanda(1,datos);
System.out.println(datos); //the content of datos here is empty.
C++ Code:
Java_ABKeyBoard_leerBanda(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj,jint pista, jstring datos)
char buffer[2024];
memset(buffer,     0x00,     sizeof(buffer));
strcpy(buffer, "xxxx");
datos = env->NewStringUTF(buffer);
return;
Thanks for your help.

In java every parameter are always passed by value.
The datos parameter is a local copy of the string
reference you pass to the method.This is wrong. The String passed to the native method is the same String object you use in Java. Although everything is passed by value in Java, what is actually passed by value is the reference to the String. This means that you can modify the object you pass, but you are not allowed to change the reference to point to a totally different object. That is where the problem is coming in.
The trouble is that it is illegal to modify a String, even from native code. If you need to make changes in-place to the text, pass an array of chars (if your native code uses Unicode), an array of bytes (if it uses normal 8-bit characters) or a StringBuffer. You can legally modify any of these data structures with the new data. But the StringBuffer object is the only one whose length can be changed after it is created. Unfortunately it is also the hardest to use from JNI.
Generally I think you should always pass arrays of bytes/chars to native code instead of Strings when possible. They can be modified in place, and you can use String's methods to get a byte-array in the platform's proper encoding. Using the GetStringUTFChars method is problematic because UTF only maps directly onto ASCII in the case of characters which are in the set of 7-bit ASCII characters. Your code will do wrong things if your String happens to contain some other character, unless your native code expects UTF format strings.
The good news is that C(++) functions which return results in their arguments do not ordinarily change the length. So you should be able to allocate a byte[] or char[] ahead of time of the appropriate size (don't forget to add the trailing null, which is not a component of Java strings). I think byte[] or char[] is the best answer because you can easily map those onto C-style arrays with Get[Primitive]ArrayRegion; the return of that is suitable for passing directly to native code, as long as you have remembered the null-terminator. For instance you could do (*env)->GetByteArrayRegion(env, javaArray, 0, arrayLength, CArray) and then your CArray would be changed to point at the contents of the javaArray (note: it does not copy data into CArray, it changes CArray to point at the array contents, so do not allocate memory for CArray first). Then when you do ReleaseByteArrayRegion the results will be propagated back to Java.

• Inserting long string into Oracle

When my code inserts about 5K character into a table, I got an error message saying that the Oracle could only handle 4K character. I am currently looking at LOB but havn't had a clear idea yet. Could someone give me some help on this? According to the sample code, I will have to use Oracle JDBC driver for LOB. But we are using BEA's Kona driver for all JDBC connections. Is there an easy way to insert long string?

hii
nams u solve ur problem using setCharacterStream method
but it does't work if the string more than 4000 char
raises "java.sql.SQLException: Protocol violation"
here's the code
PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement( "UPDATE candidate SET cv_new = ?");
StringReader cvReader=new StringReader(cv_new);
int abc=cv_new.length();
ps.setCharacterStream( 1, cvReader, abc);
ps.executeUpdate();
is that any problem in that code or it's a jdbc driver broblem ??

• Passing a string into an SQL query IN statement

Hello,
I need to connect to a database to pull some data to dynamically create a form based on the data I pull back. My SQL query works fine when I manually run it through a SQL client tool, but when I try to pass it through my workflow I'm having trouble with passing my string into the IN part of the statement. So if for example my SQL query is:
SELECT Field1, Field2, Field3 FROM Table1 WHERE Field4 IN (?)
I have a process variable that has the string I'm trying to pass into the ?, but I don't seem to be able to get the query to run. I have tried setting up my query to run as a Parameterized Query (passing my string process variable into the ?), and by setting the query up through xPath (where I am calling my process variable with an xPath declaration), but am not having any luck.
The process variable I am trying to pass is formatted such that I'm passing 'Value1','Value2','Value3' but I can reformat this string if need be. Even with using test data I can't get the query to return anything. For test data I have tried: 'Value1','Value2','Value3' ; Value1','Value2','Value3 ; Value1,Value2,Value3 but the query never returns any data. I can't seem to see how to format the string to pass into the query. The Query will work with a single Value in the test data, but as soon as I try to pass multiple values within the string it fails. Any suggestions?

The problem looks to be a limit on what I can pass into the SQL query component. My string is coming from data returned from another database. I take the xml output from that database call, pass it through a set variable component to remove my xml tags from the string, and then format the string in a script component (I have to do it this way because of the way the data coming out of my first database call). I've put in loggers, and can see that the string I'm passing into my query that is giving me problems, is formatted the same way as if I were to use the concat function Scott listed above. It looks like there is a limitation on what can be passed in my variable. I have tried creating my entire SQL query statement in a set variable component, and then just calling the process variable that holds that statement, but there is a character limit of 128 character for what can be passed in a variable through xpath in the SQL query component.
The next thing I tried was changing my SQL where clause. Instead of passing my variable directly into the IN statement I set up a PATINDEX('%:'+countyname+ ':%', ?) > 0 call to check for the values in my database call. As you can see I took out the "," that I was passing as part of my string, thinking that the SQL component was getting confused by them, and placed ":" characters around my values being passed in my string variable. No matter what I try to do though I'm not able to get the query to run. The component looks like it is taking my string, and is seeing the whole thing as a string instead of passing it as individual values within a string.
I think I'm getting close, but I keep getting a Content not allowed in prolog exception in the server logs.

• Problem with host string

hi
i am new here
2 days ago i was finish my database administrator course.-it mean that is the first course from 6(as much i know)
first you should know that english is not my lang so if i will maskes i am sorry
anyway after i am talking about me i will talk about my problem
i am trying to connect to sqlplus
after i click on this tool i get
user name:
pass:
host string:
i know that i need to go to the file tnsnames.ora and take from there the host string
i did that and after the parameter "host=" i saw the host string name.
after i did that i tried to connect with sysdba but without pass cuase if i conn with sysdba i dont need pass
in "host string " i write the host string accurding to the tnsnames.ora ang it doesn't work
as aresult i get a line that ask me the pass what sould i do?
tasks to all of you![b]

"Host string" entry to connect through SQL*Plus is the SID entry from the tnsnames. Not the parameter host=...
This is the first parameter, something else like the following :
DEMO92 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =...The host which you said is the hostname which is the host of the database, not thedatabase itself.

• XSLT problem passing raw XML

Hello,
I've a problem passing a piece of raw XML code to an external assembly to do some tasks.
The problem is that if I use an XSLT like this:
<xsl:template name="xml-to-string-called-template">
<xsl:param name="param1" />
<xsl:element name="ns0:Root">
<xsl:variable name="tryThisTemplate">
<xsl:text disable-output-escaping="yes"></xsl:text>
<xsl:call-template name="identity" />
<xsl:text disable-output-escaping="yes"></xsl:text>
</xsl:variable>
<xsl:copy-of select="$tryThisTemplate" />
</xsl:element>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template name="identity" match="@*|node()">
<xsl:copy>
<xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()" />
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>
I have as output the XML with all tags like expected (the TestFunction take a string as input ad return the same string as output), like this:
<ns0:Root xmlns:ns0="http://BizTalk_Server_ProjectDemo.SchemaOut1Node">
- <ns0:Travel xmlns:ns0="http://BizTalk_Server_ProjectDemo.SchemaIN">
<DateTimeStart>1999-05-31T13:20:00.000-05:00</DateTimeStart>
<Field>Field_0</Field>
</ns0:Travel>
</ns0:Root>
The problem is that if I try to pass the variable to my external assembly, in this way:
<xsl:template name="xml-to-string-called-template">
<xsl:param name="param1" />
<xsl:element name="ns0:Root">
<xsl:variable name="tryThisTemplate">
<xsl:text disable-output-escaping="yes"></xsl:text>
<xsl:call-template name="identity" />
<xsl:text disable-output-escaping="yes"></xsl:text>
</xsl:variable>
<xsl:variable name="pCC" xmlns:ScriptNS0="http://schemas.microsoft.com/BizTalk/2003/ScriptNS0"
select="ScriptNS0:TestFunction($tryThisTemplate)" />
<xsl:text disable-output-escaping="yes"></xsl:text>
<xsl:copy-of select="$pCC" />
<xsl:text disable-output-escaping="yes"></xsl:text>
</xsl:element>
</xsl:template>
saving its return value and printing it, I have as output the values of fields contained in $tryThisTemplate variable, and not all the XML like I need:
<ns0:Root xmlns:ns0="http://BizTalk_Server_ProjectDemo.SchemaOut1Node">1999-05-31T13:20:00.000-05:00
Field_0</ns0:Root>
What can I do to pass all the raw XML to my function and not the values of its fields?
I tried to declare the output method as like xml than html or text but nothing changed

First, of all your input xml has invalid namespace declaration, is this like below what mean to say:
<ns0:Root xmlns:ns0="http://BizTalk_Server_ProjectDemo.SchemaOut1Node">
<ns1:Travel xmlns:ns1="http://BizTalk_Server_ProjectDemo.SchemaIN">
<DateTimeStart>1999-05-31T13:20:00.000-05:00</DateTimeStart>
<Field>Field_0</Field>
</ns1:Travel>
</ns0:Root>
Second, you can achieve what you are trying to map using very simple map like below:
and you can see the xslt is generated like below:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?><xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:msxsl="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xslt" xmlns:var="http://schemas.microsoft.com/BizTalk/2003/var" exclude-result-prefixes="msxsl var s0 userCSharp" version="1.0" xmlns:s0="http://BizTalk_Server_ProjectDemo.SchemaIN" xmlns:ns0="http://BizTalk_Server_ProjectDemo.SchemaOut1Node" xmlns:userCSharp="http://schemas.microsoft.com/BizTalk/2003/userCSharp">  <xsl:output omit-xml-declaration="yes" method="xml" version="1.0" />  <xsl:template match="/">    <xsl:apply-templates select="/ns0:Root" />  </xsl:template>  <xsl:template match="/ns0:Root">    <xsl:variable name="var:v1" select="userCSharp:StringConcat(string(s0:Travel/DateTimeStart/text()) , "  " , string(s0:Travel/Field/text()))" />    <ns0:Root>      <xsl:value-of select="$var:v1" />    </ns0:Root>  </xsl:template>  <msxsl:script language="C#" implements-prefix="userCSharp"><![CDATA[public string StringConcat(string param0, string param1, string param2){   return param0 + param1 + param2;}]]></msxsl:script></xsl:stylesheet>
Third, if you are really interested passing your whole using xslt, then probably this artical will be helpful to you
http://connectedpawns.wordpress.com/2009/08/01/how-to-copy-the-entire-node-to-element-of-string-type-in-a-map/
Please mark it as Answer if this answers your question
Thanks.

The contents I write here is my personal views, not the view of my employer and anyone else.
Thank you, yes you're right about the namespaces, but this is only a proof of concept ant I have to adjust it.
What is the functoid you put in the map? And can I pass its output to an external assembly as parameter? (I need to do it and return the output to a certain schema node).
Thank you

• OWA Email - One Long String

The email I receive from OWA has no line breaks, it is all one long string. This is creating a big problem when I forward the emails received with my BB as they are difficult to read by the recipient. Is there anyway to correct this? I use BIS and access my work email via OWA. I also have a separate personal email set up with no problems with the email I receive or send.
BB Curve 8310 v4.5.0.55

Any help will be appreciated!

I'm experiencing the same issue (no line breaks) when pasting rows directly from Excel (2008 & 2011) into a Flex TextArea on a Mac. However, when pasting the exact same data from a Windows Excel spreadsheet, it contains the line breaks.
From Mac: Customer\tPhoneCustomer 1\t555-555-5555Customer 2\t555-555-5556
From Windows: Customer\tPhone\rCustomer 1\t555-555-5555\rCustomer 2\t555-555-5556\r
This appears to be a bug in a flash.display class as pasting the data from Excel to a text editor and then copying/pasting into the same Flex TextArea preserves the original line breaks.
Has anyone figured out a work around?

• Long strings in combo box

I have an editable combo box that I'm sticking in a compact spring layout. The problem is if you use a list that contains very long strings (like a long hex string), the combo box sizes itself to fit it and all the other controls are made to be that length as well. Is there a way to stop the control from becoming so long, like a horizontal scroll bar in the list?
