Weird problem with jpanel vs jframe

I'm using jmathplot.jar from JMathTools which lets me do 3d plotting. I used a JFrame to get some code to work and it worked fine. Here's the code that worked for a JFrame:
public class View extends JFrame
    private Model myModel;
    private Plot3DPanel myPanel;
    // ... Components
    public View(Model m)
        myModel = m;
        // ... Initialize components
        myPanel = new Plot3DPanel("SOUTH");
        myPanel.addGridPlot("Test",myModel.getXRange(),myModel.getYRange(),myModel.getZValues());
        setSize(600, 600);
        setContentPane(myPanel);
        setVisible(true);
}Here's the class that starts everything:
public class TestApplet extends JApplet
    public void init()
        //Execute a job on the event-dispatching thread; creating this applet's GUI.
        try
            SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(new Runnable()
                public void run()
                    createGUI();
        catch (Exception e)
            e.printStackTrace();
    private void createGUI()
        System.out.println("Creating GUI");
        Model model = new Model();
        View view = new View(model);
}And here's the Model:
public class Model
    private double[] myXRange,myYRange;
    private double[][] myZValues;
    public Model()
        createDataSet();
    public double[] getXRange()
        return myXRange;
    public double[] getYRange()
        return myYRange;
    public double[][] getZValues()
        return myZValues;
    private void createDataSet()
        myXRange = new double[10];
        myYRange = new double[10];
        myZValues = new double[10][10];
        for(double i=0;i<10;i++)
            for(double j=0;j<10;j++)
                double x = i/10;
                double y = j/10;
                myXRange[(int) i] = x;
                myYRange[(int) j] = y;
                myZValues[(int) i][(int) j]= Math.cos(x*Math.PI)*Math.sin(y*Math.PI);
}However, as you can see, my main class is a JApplet because ideally I want View to be a JPanel that I add to the applet. All I did was change "extends JFrame" to "extends JApplet" and changed:
setSize(600, 600);
setContentPane(myPanel);
setVisible(true);to
this.add(myPanel);and added these two lines to createGUI():
        view.setOpaque(true);
        setContentPane(view);When I run it however, it appears really really small. It seems like its drawing the panel to the default size of the applet viewer and doesn't resize it when I resize the applet. I don't know if it's a problem with the library or if I'm doing something wrong in my applet.

However, as you can see, my main class is a JApplet because ideally I want View to be a JPanel that I add to the applet. All I did was change "extends JFrame" to "extends JApplet" and (...)What do you mean? View extends JApplet? I thought View was meant to extend JPanel in the end...
When I run it however, it appears really really small. It seems like its drawing the panel to the default size of the applet viewer and doesn't resize it when I resize the applet.Or, the panel has its preferred size, and this latter is too small. Actually the panel has the size its container's layout manager awards it (taking or not the panel's preferred, minimum, and maximum sizes into account). See the tutorial on [layout managers|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/layout/index.html] .
In particular, this line adds the myPanel to a parent panel (presumably, it is in class View which extends JPanel, whose default layout is FlowLayout):
this.add(myPanel);
I don't know if it's a problem with the library or if I'm doing something wrong in my applet.Likely not (presumably the library interfers only in how it computes the Plot3DPanel's preferred size). There's an easy way to tell: try to layout correctly a custom JPanel of yours, containing only e.g. a button with an icon. Once you understand the basics of layout management, revisit the example using ther 3rd-party library.
N.B.: there are a lot of "likely" and "presumably" in my reply: in order to avoid hardly-educated guesses especially on what is or isn't in your actual code, you'd better provide an SSCCE , which means reproducing the problem without the 3rd party library.

  • Problem with Jpanel repaintingl

    Hi!
    I have a problem with Jpanel.
    First , I add a Jscrollpane to the panel and I don't
    see it.
    Second, I have a paint method in the Jpanel and I do there some painting but when I exe the application I can see the panel painting only when I put the mouse cursor
    on the place where the panel need to be.
    It is very strange.
    Help me.
    Yair.

    Example code??
    Can't tell what's wrong otherwise.
    First , I add a Jscrollpane to the panel and I don't
    see it.Have you added anything to this JScrollPane? Unless you set the scroll bar policies to always on you won't see anything if you haven't added anything to the scrollpane.
    Also, if you're only adding this scrollPane to your JPanel initilise it with
    JPanel whippet = new JPanel(new BorderLayout())
    .. then when you add your scrollPanel to your JPanel do this to make sure its added slap in the in middle of it:
    whippet.add(yourScrollPanel, BorderLayout.CENTER);
    Bit more info please - duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude (man, "Finding Nemo" was well funny didn't you think.. anyways, that's besides the point.... could just be my 8 year old mental age though.. who knows.)?

  • Apple Banned me, because of a very weird problem with my "Factory Unlocked"

    Hi Everybody! Im having a very weird problem with my unlocked iphone 4.
    First of all, i would like to apologize because of my english, is not very good. My native language is Spanish.
    Well.. Im from Mexico, and here we can buy the iphone Unlocked on the Apple Online Store.
    Here's my problem. Apple has exchanged my iphone 3 times.
    I returned the iphone the first time because the screen was totally yellowish, other than that everything was working great!, that was by the end of September.
    On October 20th, i recieved my second iphone, and then a bigger problem started .
    Before i continue, let me give you this information: here in Mexico we have basically 3 cell phone companies
    1.- Telcel
    2.- Movistar
    3.- Unefon
    OK, now on october 20th, i recieved my second iphone, and then procced to activate via itunes using my UNEFON sim card (microsim).
    And every time i tried to activate it, only got this message onscreen:
    http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s2/jorgelomeli/Screenshot2010-10-29at24915PM. png
    I though something was wrong with my brand new factory unlocked iphone 4.
    I have 4 more simcards from my brothers (they all had iphone 4 too)
    I tried telcel sim card, and i could activate my iphone. Then i insterted the Movistar microsim, and it worked too!! But then when i put the Unefon sim, the itunes logo inmediatly appears on the screen asking to activate on itunes, and when i tried that, the only response i got was the image above saying " The Simcard inserted on this iphone does not appear to be supported"
    Weird thing here is, that, when i put my Unefon sim card on my brothers iphone 4, it worked great! on all of them, internet 3g, phone, wireless , evrything!
    I called apple support, and they exchange the iphone for another one.
    I recieved the third iphone on October 29. Last friday. and guess what? SAME PROBLEM! different serial number, same week production (week 42) but exactly the same message on itunes.
    Very, very frustrated, i called apple again, and after 1 hour with thechnical support, they told me " We are sorry, but we can only offer you, your money back, NO MORE EXCHANGES FOR YOU"
    I said why?... i dont want my money back! i want an UNLOCKED iphone!, but they refuse to give me another iphone.
    When i asked techincal support, why my unefon sim card worked great on all three of my brothers iphone but not on mine, he just told me, "I really dont know, i guess they just got lucky" ****, this answer put all my trust i had on apple products for years, right on the garbage.
    Since they refused to give me another iphone, i accepted my money back, and inmediatly after i finished the call, i asked my brother to buy me one more time an iphone 4 using his name, and his credit card. Now i have to wait until November 8-12 to recieve my new iphone, hoping this time i get a REAL UNLOCKED iphone, and not a partially unlocked iphone.
    btw. i even went to Unefon costumer service and bought a new prepiad line, with a new microsim, just to be 100% sure that this problem is not because of the sim. And again didnt worked on my iphone, but it worked on any of my brothers iphone4.
    Serial numbers of the 3 iphones:
    79039C0U* (this one worked great with Unefon, only problem was yellow screen)
    85042GR4*
    81042FJB*
    What do you suggest me? any info would be really aprecciated
    FYI i also restore 4 times the last iphone and nothing seemed to work, i use 3 different computers, Macbook Pro, iMac, and an Hp with Windows 7, and the same message on all three computers.
    Wierd thing also, one of my brothers bougth an iphone 4 this last week too, but he bought the 16Gb not the 32Gb. His iphone production week is 42 also! and when i put my Unefon sim in his iphone works great!
    I dont know what else i can do, I just need to have faith that my new iphone coming this november will be real unlocked, but what if i'll recieve an iphone and then the same problem?? time for android? just kidding really guys, what can i do? anyone with similar problem like me? i dont wanna use Telcel or Movistar, i wanna use Unefon, and thats why i bought an Unlocked iphone
    btw: jailbreak is not a solution for me, because i always like to use legal software on all my apple products, and because of the warranty.

    According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937, there are two official carriers in Mexico (Movistar and Telcel) and neither carrier offers an unlocked phone.

    This response is a little late as I just read about your problem. I have a 2012 Dodge Charger and a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country and both worked flawlessly with the iPhone 5s my wife and I had. However, we just upgraded to the iPhone 6 and Uconnect will receive calls but you cannot answer them. You can callout successfully, however. the annoyance being the inability to answer incoming calls in the HandsFree mode.

  • Weird problem with JApplet

    I'm having a weird problem with JApplet. So first I create an Applet with this code
    public class japp extends JApplet {
         public void init() {
              Container content=getContentPane();
              JButton jb=new JButton("Hello");
              content.add(jb);
    }and with this in the .html file;
    <html>
    <body>
    <APPLET CODE="japp.class" WIDTH="650" HEIGHT="500"></APPLET>
    </body>
    </html>
    And opened it in Firefox, it worked as expected. However, when I change the code in any way, i.e.
    public class japp extends JApplet {
         public void init() {
              Container content=getContentPane();
              JButton jb=new JButton("Goodbye");
              content.add(jb);
    }and compile it, it still shows the old button that displays "Hello". I've tried deleting the .class file from before and recompiling, that doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Reloading the page usually doesn't work. You will need to open the Java Console and clear classloader cache (x). You can also use appletviewer for testing purposes.

  • Weird problems with CSS being applied to JSF pages

    I have this really weird problem with my CSS rules being applied to my JSF pages. My CSS rules don't get applied unless one of the following two things happen:
    - A page is reloaded (by redirecting to itself, or if there were validation errors)
    - The previous page in the history had the same relative reference to the same CSS file.
    If a page is newly loaded, and the previous page did not have that same CSS reference, the CSS styles will not show up. Also, if the above is true, and the page is reloaded by JSF, the CSS styles show up.
    Now, my problem could be solved if I put all JSP files in the same level, but the display of the first page would still be without the CSS style applied.
    Is this known behaviour? And if it is, does it have anything to do do with the way JSF handles URLs (always one level back)? Help and input is kindly appreciated!

    I tried the same
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="<h:outputText value="#{facesContext.externalContext.requestContextPath}"/pages/css/default.css" />

  • Weird problems with OSX Tiger

    I'm with a weird problem with my OS Tiger. I have a G4/400 AGP Graphics with a Fastmac 1.5GHz processor upgrade, 1 GB RAM, 128MB video card, USB 2.0 card and a Sonnet serial ATA card. I have two HDs: one of 80GB and another one with 250GB (serial ATA) connected to the serial ATA card.
    I have installed OS X Tiger in this serial ATA HD. Some weird things are happening since then. Sometimes when I shutdown my Mac, the delay is too long, all the icons disappear and the spinning wheel cursor remains in the screen for a long time until the Mac shuts down.
    Sometimes when I try to open some applications, the same thing happens, the delay is long. And it happens too when I try to quit some applications. The sintom doesn't follow a rule - sometimes happen and other times it don't happen. And when I hit optioncommandesc to force quit, the application appears in the list as 'not responding', and even when I force quit it doesn't quit at all.
    I already have checked the disk permissions, I have runned MacJanitor, but the problem is still there.
    Any idea?

    Hello! Long delays are often caused by corrupt disk directories. I'd first boot from the install Tiger disc and run the repair disk routine and then repair permissions AFTER rebooting from the hard drive. Other than that I'd get Diskwarrior to keep the directories in good shape. Tom

  • Weird problems with XFCE

    So I got a weird problem with XFCE (I think) sometimes everything just stops working, my PPTP vpn, can't start new applications, no shortcut commands on my keyboard works etc. For example when this happened and I tried to open a text document with gedit i got "Process /usr/bin/Thunar exited with status 1" and when I'm connected to my vpn I can't access the internet, not browsing and I can't ping other websites. And in my terminal instead of "icamaxi@localhost" it becomes "[email protected]
    This problem happens randomly and it works if you restart the computer.
    my xinitrc looks like:
    #!/bin/sh
    if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f
    fi
    exec startxfce4
    I also get this error message sometimes if that helps you
    "(process:1055): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
    Using the fallback 'C' locale.
    No protocol specified"
    Xorg log
    Another thing that is not related to this problem but that is annoying is that i can't lock my screen, when I try nothing happens, I've tried the shortcut command and also with the actions button applet but none of this work.

    I'm not certain about your first issue, but does it ever occur when you aren't connected ot your VPN?
    For the screen locking problem, what are you using to lock your screen? I use xflock4, and have a keyboard command set up in the keyboard commands to lock my screen.

  • Weird problems with battery

    Hi guys,
    I having some weird problems with my new battery. I changed the old battery (that died) for a brand new one. The first problem was: the mac didn't recognized the new battery in a macbook pro 13 early 2011. So, I putted the battery in a another macbook pro 13 mid 2010 and worked. So, I passed the battery again to macbook early 2011 and worked fine. I thought this very weird, but it is ok. The big problem came after: about two or three days of regular use, the mac just didn't turn on (I'm sure the battery charge was full). Even the battery charge button didn't work, like as the battery didn't stay there. However, if I shake the mac, something happen and the battery start to work normally. few minutes after (around 15 minutes), the mac shut down immediately, like as someone disconnect the battery from MB. If I shake the mac, the same thing happen again, few minutes after the mac turn off. The other strange fact is: if I open the mac, disconnect and reconnect the cable of battery (that connect with MB), the mac start work properly and 2 or 3 days after the problem go back.
    Anyone has a clue?
    I'm not confident about a bad contact problem of the cable with the MB, because the problem is repeated with some regularity of days (ever 2 or 3 days after connect the cable to MB).
    I guess could be a problem in the logic board of the battery... What do you think could be? If the problem is because the logic board, is there a solution?
    Thanks

    Call Apple and get them to take a look at it, you've done all the 'customer troubleshooting' you can ...

  • Weird problem with role assignment in Portal

    Hi,
    In our newly installed Portal for eRecruitment Production System we encounter a weird problem with assigning roles to users.
    When I open User Administration and search for roles, it displays the Portal roles perfectly.
    However, when I search for a user in User Administration and click on it when found, I am unable to find any roles to assign! So I am unable to find any roles, when I want to modify the assigned roles for a particular user, while the roles do exist and can be found on its own. How is this possible? Am I missing something here?
    We have installed SPS 15 and use ABAP as user store. We have used reverse proxy and web dispatchers in this case.
    Thanks in advance and best regards,

  • I am having a real weird problem with OWB:

    I am having a real weird problem with OWB:
    I have 2 tables A and D
    select a.id,d.src_id, a.date_created,a.dt_code
    from A, D
    where a.id=d.mdoc_id
    The are my output :
    ID SRC_ID DATE_CREATED DT_CODE
    35 2 1/25/2008 302
    36 1 1/20/2008 301
    37 2 1/21/2008 301
    33 1 2/3/2008 302
    34 1 3/5/2008 302
    I want to see just 2 rows
    ID SRC_ID DATE_CREATED DT_CODE
    35 2 1/25/2008 302
    34 1 3/5/2008 302
    1. I need to 1 row with SRC_ID
    2. I want to retern max(dt_code)
    3. I want to order by max(dt_code), date_created
    I try do with PLSql but i get this answer :
    select a.id,d.src_id,a.dt_code, a.date_created
    from moi_documents a, document_src_candidates d
    where a.id=d.mdoc_id (+) and
    a.DT_CODE in (301,302) and dt_code =(select max(dt_code) from moi_documents)
    ORDER BY a.dt_code , a.date_created
    ID     SRC_ID     DT_CODE     DATE_CREATED
    35     2     302     1/25/2008
    33     1     302     2/3/2008
    34     1     302     3/5/2008
    I need to delete row 33
    How can i do this
    Regards

    Hi,
    okay...for Operations like max, min, avg, etc. you must use an Aggregation in a Mapping.
    Delete Operations you must handle in the Table Characteristics.
    (Right Click on top of a Table --> Context Menu --> choose delete).
    To come to your Target you must made several Steps in the Mapping and lead the Data through the Conditions.

  • Weird problem with the apple tv (3rd gen) playing choppy iTunes Music

    I have a weird problem with the apple tv(3rd gen) when i use my macbook pro to play itunes music via airplay the music is extremely choppy however that only happens if I have both my mac and apple tv connected to the same 5 ghz band on my dual band wifi network if i switch either one of my mac or apple tv to the 2.4 ghz band it works fine. I would like to find a solution instead of having to do this work around because i prefer my 5 ghz band for both my mac and apple tv and have my other things connected to my 2.4 ghz.

    5 GHz, so far as I'm aware transfers no more data than 2.4 Ghz. There are other things involved that might help data through volume such as the wifi standard or dual width channels, but essentially if you compare like for like they are they same for the amount of data they can send. The main advantage of 5GHz is that it's less susceptible to interference and potentially more private.
    It's possible that you have different issues on each band, I couldn't say at this time but have you checked for interference.

  • Weird Problem with Mouse Preferences

    I have a weird problem with my mouse preferences.
    When I open System Preferences - Keyboard & Mouse - Mouse, I can change the Double Click Speed as much as I want, it doesn't have any effect. No matter what the slider shows, the speed seems to be set to "slow" and stays like that. It's driving me mad, because I continuously open documents without wanting it. For example, when I click on a document and click a second time to change its name, it always opens. I'd have to wait VERY long before the second click to prevent that.
    I've already tried to connect another mouse, or to use another USB port. Also I've tried to trash the Preferences Cache in my Library. Without success.
    Anyone an idea what the problem is and how to solve it?
    Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    So I think now this is it
    weborican's post at macosxhints helped me to solve the problem, this time for good, as it seems:
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?p=336319
    The problem seems to be the Intel version of the driver for the MacAlly IceKey keyboard. I uninstalled the driver and now everything works as it should. So until Macally bring a new driver I will use the keyboard that came with the Mac Pro.
    who would think of the keyboard when the mouse seems to be the problem?
