Weird sound in macbook pro

My macbook pro early 2011 15' i7 8gb ram 750gb hd is making a loud sound when playing videos the fan starts running very fast and loud. after I stop the video the fan starts to run slower and slower until the sound goes away.
First time this happens. Apple care until may 2014.

Videos can be CPU/GPU intensive and create heat to which the fans are responding.  It could be that one ofbthe fans is faulty and creating uncharacteristic noise.
Run an Apple Hardware Test and see if it produces any significant information:

A trip to an Apple store genius bar may also be worthwhile.

  • Weird sounds new Macbook Pro

Just bought a new MacBook Pro 13inch. And every now and then it makes weird sounds.
(sounds like a UFO or something and a swoosh kind of sound)
I cannot link the sounds to anything I do.
maybe I'm too impatient to find it out but after a few days, I still can't figure it out.
    Thank you in advance.

Since the sound is coming from your speakers, call Apple Care, put the phone near the speakers so that Apple Care can hear it!

  • Weird sound from MacBook Pro 2011

I have a weird sound that occasionally occurs from my Late 2011 13" MacBook Pro. The sound comes from the left side of the base, towards the hinge. The timing is random, usually when sitting by itself idle with the lid open. It has occured when the charging cable is both connected and disconnected. Performing a restart does not cause it to stop, it will continue thru the restart. Shutting down completely does shut it up, but it'll likely appear shortly after booting up. Closing the lid of the MBP will shut up the sound, and if left closed for a couple hours, the sound doesn't appear for awhile.
The sound itself is pretty loud, and can easily drown out my TV when it kicks in. I don't think it's the fan, as I've heard the fan on full tilt and it's still quiet, unlike this noise I am referring to. Plus, the fan is located in the center against the hinge, not on the left where the noise is coming from. I tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM, no luck. I did record the sound with my cell phone, here is a video of it:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgutF9bZilI
If anyone has an idea of what is causing this sound, please help. Thank you.

Does the sound, or it's basis, interfere with operation of the MBP in any way?  When the lid is closed it is in sleep mode so one would expect the sound to stop then.
Best thing might be a visit to the Apple store genius bar to have the techs test it.

  • How do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

how do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

You don't. You may find some third-party software that will, however. Try Auto Mute.
    Alternatively, you can try this:
I think this is the best and simplest solution. Open a Terminal window and type (or copy/paste) the following to turn down the startup noise:
         sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume="%00"
    Press RETURN.
And to restore it to the original value type:
         sudo nvram -d SystemAudioVolume
    Press RETURN.
    That's all folks.

  • How do I disable the startup sound on macbook pro 7,1?

I need to disable the startup sound on the macbook pro 7,1 running 10.6.8.  If anyone can give me info I would appreciate it.

Look for Startup Sound on Macupdate.com
You really shouldn't turn it off, as if there is a error you won't be able to hear the beep codes.
However you can lower the volume.

  • SOUND for Macbook Pro to emerson TV! HELP

I just recieved an Emerson HDTV and am trying to connect it to my Macbook Pro.  By using an HDMI2 cable, I have picture.  But, I cannot get the sound.  I have plugged in an audio cable (don't know the name of it but it is the type that fits into the audio out jack and has the red and white connectors to the tv) but there is no sound.  When I can "sound output" in my preferences, it is not seeing the audio out.  Is there a specific setting I need?  Or does the Macbook Pro require a specific cable?  Thanks.

im haing the same problem did you ever find a solution

  • Lost sound on macbook pro

    Hi Macfriends,
Running Macbook pro, 2.2 ghz, system 10.4.11. Latest updates installed. Had portable speakers plugged in (worked fine). After removing them i lost ability to adjust sound. I cannot move the slider bar (it is very light in color) and I can't grab it. Have played with sound preferences--it is not on mute...have tried restarting, disk utility says no problems. the slider bar is at top (loudest) but i can't grab it. The preference panel says "Digital Out----built in output". Am I missing something obvious.....Any thoughts? All help will be appreciated! THANKS!!! Joe

    UPDATE----FIXED IT!
I plugged the speakers back in and the headphone showed up under output in sound preference panel. Plugged in and out couple times and "internal speakers" showed up. I selected it and wooo-la, it resolved itself! All is fine again in macland!!!!

  • No sound on MacBook Pro after 10.6.8 upgrade

    Good morning.
I've got an 5,1 model MacBook Pro (aluminium unibody) 4gb RAM, 2.4GHz Core2Duo and it's been working fine up until yesterday when I installed the 10.6.8 Snow Leopard update.
Since then I get no sound through earphones or through the internal speakers.
If I ALT+Click the speaker icon I get two outputs:
    Soundflower (2ch)
    Soundflower (16ch)
I've no idea what Soundflower is, and a spotlight search just shows up sound.log which refers to
    6/23 18:54:29.163  => WoW Version 4.1.0 (14007) Apr 29 2011
So that looks like World of Warcraft (just started WoW and logged in, turned sound off, turned sound on and no sound from WoW either)
Looking at the log in the console and narrowing it down to Soundflower I see:
    6/25 10:50:02.974   --- [1] Soundflower (2ch)
    6/25 10:50:02.976   --- [2] Soundflower (16ch)
    6/25 10:50:02.980  ** Using Driver [0] System Default (Soundflower (2ch))
Anyway, I can get no sound in anything since 10.6.8!
    Any ideas?

    Okay, I tried EVERYTHING.
    Trust Me.
I even did the downgrading to the 10.6.7 HDA.
    HERE IS THE SOLUTION:
YOU WILL NOT NEED TO LOOK ANYWHERE ELSE, IF YOU FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
    1. Download and install the 10.6.8 Supplemental Update from Apple (link below).
                                http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1429
    2. Once the update is installed, and the system has restarted, type "Disk Utility" into Spotlight, press enter to launch it, and select your hard drive on the left. Then click "Repair Disk Permissions." (This step may or may not be necessary, but is a good idea in case there are discrepancies from the update).
    3. Once the utility is finished, plug in some headphones. Then, press the Option key and click on the speaker icon in the menu bar.
    4. Click the Headphones option under the "Output Device" section. You should get sound.
Unplug the headphones and ensure that the audio is not muted. You should now also get sound through your speakers.
THIS WILL WORK. DO NOT MESS WITH VOODOO, etc. I hear that will just cause kernel panics.
If you still have problems, try resetting the PRAM by simply shutting down the computer. Hold Command+Option+P+R before the gray screen appears. Hold it until you hear the tone a second time, then release.

  • Input/output sound for MacBook Pro 10.6.8

The sound is not working properly for my narrated powerpoint presentation. I have recorded it on my MacBook Pro 10.6.8 and I get some sound but it sounds like feedback or something (like a scary phantom voice). I am using the internal microphone and internal speakers. I have checked the sound volume and speech recognition and have calibrated this. I am using powerpoint for Mac 2011 v. 14.4.1. What's happening?
Hoping someone can help, I desperately need it to work!
    Thanks in advance.

If your computer shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, it'll have come with a DVD. If needed, phone Apple and order a replacement.
Unless you got Mac OS X Server with it, which is highly unlikely for a portable computer, that DVD will contain iLife.

  • Sound in Macbook pro is not working correctly! PLEASE HELP!

A few days ago, the sound in the build in speakers in my macbook pro (Mac OS X 10.6.8) started not working correctly, i did not hit it or anything, just closed it down when i woke up the next day, the sound was not working correctly. i know it is hard to describe what's wrong in a written forum, but the best way to describe it is this: it sounds like when you have a set of headphones plugged in, but not wearing them. the sound is weak, with no bass. when i actualy do hear the sound when wearing headphones (in my ears) the sound is fine.
    hope anyone can help.

  • Sound issues macbook pro

    Hi
I have a MacBook Pro 2011 that  has been working well. It runs OS Lion.
Recently after a restart there was no sound and in the settings it said no output device found. This seems to be a common problem.
I have tried a few different things unsuccesfully including reinstalling Lion.
It seems to be a software problem and the only solution that works consistently is to do the following:
    1) restart in safe-mode followed by
    2) restart and pressing the cmd-alt-p-r combination
Would appriciate if anyone had better suggestions or fixes
    cheers

Or try VM Ware 3? I hear it runs Win 7 better than VMW2? (at least until the drivers for Win 7 comes out for Mac)
I agree. In fact, I have been using VM Ware Fusion 3 for Windows 7 too. Having tried Parallels Desktop 5, I can tell you that VM Ware Fusion 3 is much better. I have found Fusion to be so much cleaner on my system. Parallels Desktop 5 feels like it has been butchered together. This has just been my own experience.
    Good luck!

  • No sound from MacBook Pro under Lion OS X after the automatic logout.

When I go idle, my MacBook Pro does the typical log out....& prompts me for my password to get back in. I have sound previous to this, but, when I log back in, all the sound is gone. This frequently started happening with Internet videos (youtube) / flash getting no sound, but now it's the entire system. In order to get sound, I have to shut down my entire notebook and start back up.
When I click the sound effects in the System Preferences > Sound .... They do work.
Any solution to this sound issue?
If you need more information please ask.

Hi. Same here. I haven't try the PRAM reset, but rebooting the system works, with the obvius corresponding time consumption .
The system has two user accounts that are running simultaneously, my wife’s with Chrome, VLC, and other image and video tools (no professional ones). On my profile I have chrome, vlc, jdownloader, mail, mkvtools and stuff like that.
I first thought that one app was blocking the access to the sound card to the other apps, but if I turn off all of them and log out one user, the problem persists. So I end up rebooting the system…
    Any help will be appreciated
