hi thanks for replying i am pretty new to java do you mean i should look at line 117 on the todolistUI class. Sorry i am pretty new to java.E is probably away as he hasn't responded yet, but yes - that's what he means. This line calls add, and the parameter sent into that method is null, ie has not been newed when the method is called. Regardless of the method name, this is what NullPointerException means. If the stack trace had ended at line 117, it would mean that the container you tried to call was null, but as the stack trace goes a little deeper, it means that you sent a null reference into this method.

Interesting tid bit.  I created an AAC of the original file, deleted the original MP3 from my library and also deleted the Clean matched track from the icloud.
Result is that it matched with the explicit version of Mrs. Officer this time.
What I am curious about is which songs this is happening for. I've went thru a few batched of about 500 songs at a time and redownloaded in 256k for many tracks. Sadly we don't have people to bring this to our attention and I have so much music that it's impossible to go thru every song to make sure I am getting the right version.

  • Trying to erase hard drive, but get "input/output error". What does this mean? What can I do to erase my hard drive so I can reinstall?

    Hi all,
My computer a few days ago wouldn't start up, would just stay at the gray loading screen forever. So as a result I tried to reformat the hard drive and reinstall, but I can't reinstall, until I erase the hard drive, but when I try to erase the hard drive it says the erase failed due to an input/output error. What does this mean? What can I do to fix my computer?

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

Thanks for your reply LexSchellings, There is no disc in the drive and I went through the suggestions you put forward on the phone with Apple support without any luck. I can put a disc in but it pops straight back out again without registering on finder.
The idea of using an external drive was to enable me to avoid the cost and loss of productivity whilst machine in repair... if I have to take it in to get the old drive removed than I might as well have a new internal drive put in, although I do worry about the reliability of these apple drives given my experience with this one coupled with my limited online research ... on line forums seem to be full of people with the same problem (although perhaps searching such forums is bound to make it seem a common problem as users with perfectly working machines are less likely to post (?)) Your reply suggests that no external drive will work whilst the existing drive is in place.
As a postscript: I do realise that this is a user forum ...my secondary question was asking if anyone knows how to put forward a case/complaint to Apple... I can't find a link on the support page that would enable me to do so and I was wondering if anyone on this user forum had any ideas/experience..

  • HT201250 What does it mean to "partition" an external hard drive? Is it something that I want to do?

What does it mean to "partition" the external hard drive?  Is it something I want to do?  How do I save files from another hard drive to the new one?  I have to reformat the old one as it was not set up correctly.  The drive I have is Seagate but not specifically for MAC, so I have to format it.. never have done this before. Don't know the jargon.  I read that Time Machine will back up automatically but I want to take files from the old drive to the new one.  Do I have to take them to the computer first and then to the new drive?  I need more memory on my computer. It's way too cluttered and congested.  HELP!

Whoa! Slow donw. TRhere's a lot here. I would suggest you buy a good book on computers in general or macs in particular, one is "OSX the missing manual".
What does it mean to "partition" the external hard drive?
It means you take one large drive and make it into more than one volume. This means that it might show up as 2,3 or 4 inde[pendenmt drives. Each one could have, for example, a different operating system on it. Its  a good thing to do if you want to use a drive for several purposes
Is it something I want to do?
beats me, you didnt way what you're trying to accomplish. Sorta like sking "should i turn left?"  Depends on where you want to go.
How do I save files from another hard drive to the new one?
See advice n book above. Copy them in finder. Copy them in unix. Use a backup or sync utility. No different from Windows in that respect.
I have to reformat the old one as it was not set up correctly.  The drive I have is Seagate but not specifically for MAC, so I have to format it.. never have done this before. Don't know the jargon.
Hook it up. Run disk utility. Partition 1 or more partions. GUID map.  Format each partition Mac OS extended, Journaled.  for more, read book, above.  Seriously - we could give you more tips, but you really should learn enough to be comnfident.
I read that Time Machine will back up automatically but I want to take files from the old drive to the new one.  Do I have to take them to the computer first and then to the new drive?
I have no idea what you are asking.

What kind of memory and why?  RTAM? Hard drive space? Explain. By the time you are done explaining, i suspect you will have ansered your own question.
    Good luck,
Have you read the PDF manual for your cmputer?
Have you used a search engine to look for info, for example, in two seconds i got this from google and wikipedia:

  • If my device does not respond in MAX does it mean it is damaged?

I was using an example vi to acquire digital data, however the output LEDs on the vi front panel started to show random results.  So I closed the vi down and tried again but nothing happened at all?  So I went to check acquisition in MAX and the following error message was displayed:
The device is not responding to the first IRQ level.
Does this mean I have damaged the PCI card?  If it does,  will it cost a lot to get fixed and how long will it take to get it back in working order as I have to complete my labview project by early december.
    cheers

    Hi Hannah
I'm using PCI-6034.  I was able to acquire data in MAX and LabView vi's for the last couple of months so I am presuming that it must have been set-up correctly, although I could be wrong.  I am also concerned by the fact that I could smell a hint of burning coming from the PC when I was performing the last acqusition before MAX could no longer acess the card.
I am guessing that this means the card is fried?  Can it be repaired or will it have to be replaced?
    cheers

  • What is this Symbol called and what does it mean?

What is this symbol/icon called and what does it mean?  It goes away with it's "notification" and I would have no idea where to find it should I need to.
    Please.  And thank you.

It did come from Apple as I had to deal with this.  But in speaking with another "Genius" I was trying to describe the symbol to him and never got an answer.

  • To install firefox 5.0, message says avast1web rep20110101 will be disabled. What does this mean? Will it disable the avast antivirus installed on my computer?

What more can I tell you? Firefox recommends 5.0 be installed. When I try to do so, I get a message that says some addons are not compatible. specifically avast web rep 20110101. I have no idea what avast web rep 20110101 is and am concerned that it refers to the avast antivirus protection installed on my computer. I need to know if that is what the message means & that if I install 5.0, I will disable the antivirus protection.

Does this mean that Avast will continue to scan for viruses and protect my computer from harmful or malicious internet diseases?

  • Error message can't open image... it is being used by M OS X what does that mean

I have some photos and videos on my macbook when I try to open them I get an error message that say movie.avi is used by Mac OS X and can not be opened.
What does this mean and is there some way I can view the video or photo or burn it to a cd and then view it?

Well I will never know what happened with that file. I tried moving it again and got the error message again. Got another message after that saying do you want to continue to move items you can move (though this was the only file I was trying) I said continue and then the file disappeared off my system.
No idea what happened with it.....

    Hello,
    problem is solved.
What's the reason for this ?
Exception CX_ST_GROUP_MISSING_CASE is not correct, the transformation works fine, with STRANS you can check this.
But in SE80 you can check the client-proxy with the definition of wsdl and any objects are missing or must change. Why I have no idea, it seems like a bug after implementation support packages.
So after generating missing objects and activating the webservice works fine, no exception occurs.
    best regards

It does. But you need a whole lot more free disk space than that. Having 8 GB of RAM wouldn't be a bad idea either.

  • What does it mean to be "thread safe"?

What does it mean to be "thread safe"?
I am working with a team on a project here at work. Someone here suggested that we build all of our screens during the initialization of the application to save time later. During the use of the application, the screens would then be made visible or invisible.
One of the objections to that idea was that the swing components (many of which we use) are not thread safe. Can anyone tell me what the relevance of that is?
    Thanks

To understand why Swing is not thread safe you have to understand a little bit of history, and a little bit of how swing actually works. The history(short version) is that it is nearly impossible to make a GUI toolkit thread safe. X is thread safe(well, sorta) and it's a really big mess. So to keep things simple(and fast) Swing was developed with an event model. The swing components themselves are not thread safe, but if you always change them with an event on the event queue, you will never have a problem. Basically, there is a Thread always running with any GUI program. It's called the awt event handler. When ever an event happens, it goes on an event queue and the event handler picks them off one by one and tells the correct components about it. If you have code that you want to manipulate swing components, and you are not ON the awt thread(inside a listener trail) you must use this code.
    SwingUtilities.invokeLater( new Runnable() {
      public void run() {
// code to manipulate swing component here
});This method puts the defined runnable object on the event queue for the awt thread to deal with. This way changes to the components happen in order, in a thread safe way.

  • Max wait from a trace file...what does it mean

    Hi,
following is a part of an extended sql trace file :
Elapsed times include waiting on following events:
Event waited on Times Max. Wait Total Waited
    ---------------------------------------- Waited ---------- ------------
    library cache lock 5 0.00 0.00
    row cache lock 7 0.00 0.00
    library cache pin 3 0.00 0.00
    rdbms ipc reply 2 0.00 0.00
    SQL*Net message to client 8185 0.00 0.01
    SQLNet message from client 8185 1671.98 1688.26*
here what does the column max.wait mean? this is a trace file when a proc was run remotely to a database - it has lots of dbms_output statements, it creates an output file (on the remote pc from which it runs) the proc calls several sql scrips, does lot of query and dml
Now when teh same script is run locally from the server those sql net waits are not there. and the interesting fact is: when run locally it takes 4 mins
and remotely it takes 1 hour. How can we interpret this? and what does teh max wait indiccate?
    thanks,

Can you explain more on this? the same proc when run locally does not have this wait and when run from remote ip it has this wait - so does that mean that this is due to network issue?
should we for example - remove the dbms_output statements from this and try ? what should we do to be able to run the script from remote ip and run it in 6-7 minutes- when the scritp is run locally from the from server it takes 4 minutes and from a remote ip it takes one hour. the script also has a spool statement as it has to log its output. Is it that spoling that may be causing this?
    Thanks again,

DATA: zbficheentry_list TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF zbficheentry_list2 WITH HEADER LINE,
    wa_ficheentry TYPE line of zbficheentry_list2.
    <b>WHAT is UNICODE ?</b>
    About brief idea about unicode
In the past, SAP developers used various codes to encode characters of different alphabets, for example, ASCII, EBCDI, or double-byte code pages.
ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) encodes each character using 1 byte = 8 bit. This makes it possible to represent a maximum of 28 = 256 characters to which the combinations [00000000, 11111111] are assigned. Common code pages are, for example, ISO88591 for West European or ISO88595 for Cyrillic fonts.
EBCDI (Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange) also uses 1 byte to encode each character, which again makes it possible to represent 256 characters. EBCDIC 0697/0500 is an old IBM format that is used on AS/400 machines for West European fonts, for example.
Double-byte code pages require 1 or 2 bytes for each character. This allows you to form 216 = 65536 combinations where usually only 10,000 - 15,000 characters are used. Double-byte code pages are, for example, SJIS for Japanese and BIG5 for traditional Chinese.
Using these character sets, you can account for each language relevant to the SAP System. However, problems occur if you want to merge texts from different incompatible character sets in a central system. Equally, exchanging data between systems with incompatible character sets can result in unprecedented situations.
One solution to this problem is to use a code comprising all characters used on earth. This code is called Unicode (ISO/IEC 10646) and consists of at least 16 bit = 2 bytes, alternatively of 32 bit = 4 bytes per character. Although the conversion effort for the R/3 kernel and applications is considerable, the migration to Unicode provides great benefits in the long run:
The Internet and consequently also mySAP.com are entirely based on Unicode, which thus is a basic requirement for international competitiveness.
Unicode allows all R/3 users to install a central R/3 System that covers all business processes worldwide.
Companies using different distributed systems frequently want to aggregate their worldwide corporate data. Without Unicode, they would be able to do this only to a limited degree.
With Unicode, you can use multiple languages simultaneously at a single frontend computer.
Unicode is required for cross-application data exchange without loss of data due to incompatible character sets. One way to present documents in the World Wide Web (www) is XML, for example.
ABAP programs must be modified wherever an explicit or implicit assumption is made with regard to the internal length of a character. As a result, a new level of abstraction is reached which makes it possible to run one and the same program both in conventional and in Unicode systems. In addition, if new characters are added to the Unicode character set, SAP can decide whether to represent these characters internally using 2 or 4 bytes.
A Unicode-enabled ABAP program (UP) is a program in which all Unicode checks are effective. Such a program returns the same results in a non-Unicode system (NUS) as in a Unicode system (US). In order to perform the relevant syntax checks, you must activate the Unicode flag in the screens of the program and class attributes.
In a US, you can only execute programs for which the Unicode flag is set. In future, the Unicode flag must be set for all SAP programs to enable them to run on a US. If the Unicode flag is set for a program, the syntax is checked and the program executed according to the rules described in this document, regardless of whether the system is a US or an NUS. From now on, the Unicode flag must be set for all new programs and classes that are created.
If the Unicode flag is not set, a program can only be executed in an NUS. The syntactical and semantic changes described below do not apply to such programs. However, you can use all language extensions that have been introduced in the process of the conversion to Unicode.
As a result of the modifications and restrictions associated with the Unicode flag, programs are executed in both Unicode and non-Unicode systems with the same semantics to a large degree. In rare cases, however, differences may occur. Programs that are designed to run on both systems therefore need to be tested on both platforms.
You can also check out these official SAP locations on the SAP Service Marketplace:
