What apps are assigned to a given Desktop

How can I find out what apps are assigned to a specific Desktop in Mission Control?

It's kind of a pain, but you can do it from the Terminal.  Do "defaults read com.apple.spaces".  This will get you a list of what apps are bound to what desktop UUIDs.  It will also give you a list of UUIDs.  It's up to you to match them.
Here's an example.  I have six desktops set up. Each desktop other than Desktop 1 has an entry in the "spaces" array showing its UUID.  Desktop 1 doesn't an entry, or a UUID.  Now look at the "app-bindings".  AdiumX is on all spaces. The values for Mail and Thunderbird are blank; they're both assigned to Desktop 1.  For the others you need to match UUIDs, keeping in mind that the first element of the array is Desktop 2.  Firefox's UUID matches the first space's UUID, so it's assigned to Desktop 2.  iCal's UUID matches the last space's UUID, so it's assigned to Desktop 6.
Aren't you glad that OSX makes everything so easy?

        "org.mozilla.thunderbird" = "";

How can I find out what apps are on my step daughters phone without the phone? She is on my phone plan but does not live with me and I am concerned about the apps she may be using.

        baniville108,
Thank you for reaching out to us. We certainly know the importance of being able to know what options are available with your device. With apps on devices, thoses are specific to the phone itself, so there is no open forum to view what apps are downloaded. The only option would be to physically review from the phone, or if you have the same Apple ID you can log into it and view from there. Please let us know if you need anymore assistance.
    Thank you,

  • Colorblind users can't tell what apps are running

There needs to be a setting under Dock Preferences to CHANGE THE COLOR of the dot under running applications in the Dock.
I know the dot is there because I asked where the arrows went in the Apple Store and they told me it was there. After straining and squinting, I can almost see it. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
With my color blind situation, I can no longer tell what apps are running or not. I have to press command-option-escape for force quit just to see what is running.
Either bring back the Tiger black arrow, or allow a preference so that color blind users can tell what is going on.

You bring up an excellent point but no one at Apple who can make the change is likely reading Discussions. Put in a request for the Dock improvement at Apple OS X Feedback where it will be put in Apple's system for user requests.

  • Isn't there an app that can track what apps are using up your resources?

There really ought to be!  My battery time stinks, I have to recharge my phone all the time, it's I took it off the charger at 8:15 and it's down to 84% and I barely used my phone today.  I've tried every suggestion I found on here and it hasn't helped.  The one thing that COULD help is if there was some kind of task manager like in windows that showed you what apps are using which resources so at least I could tell if there's something running that is constantly using up all the resources and milking my battery.  This is really frustrating.  I just checked and my battery is now at 83% and it's been locked this whole time.  I'm sorry but that is not normal.

another symptom--after doing nothing but some light texting, she sent 30 mb of data in an hour.  That strikes me as being way out of line.

  • What apps are compatible with on old iPod touch?

What apps are compatible with on old iPod touch? Running iOS 4

To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Can the iPhone have settings profiles?  I want the settings of what apps are using the "call home" automatically set based on my location or the time of day.  Is this possible?

Can the iPhone have settings profiles?  I want the settings of what apps are using the "call home" automatically set based on my location or the time of day.  Is this possible?  Of course the GPS location feature will need to be on in order for this to work.  But the idea here would be to optimize battery life by disabling the 'call home' requests of apps.  The settings profile should also support downloads as I would like to download and allow it when I am on WiFi but not so much when I am using my cellular data.

No, this is not possible as the sandboxed nature of iOS would not allow any app to modify another app like that. Such a feature would have to be enabled by Apple as a part of iOS itself. You can submit feedback to Apple about the idea if you wish to.

I turned on Parental Controls for my kids and when they log into their accounts they get a series of dialogs saying "You don't have permission to run <APP>, with Done, Always Allow and Allow Once buttons. Here's a tip from another user that may help you:
"I was running into the same problem trying to find apps for my daughters Iphone 3g running 4.2.1.  What I did was go to the Itunes store through Itunes on my PC, and then went to the bottom of the main page and clicked "Browse." On the browse page I selected, App Store, Games (category), Kids (subcategory), and then a list of apps appears below.
I sorted by date (oldest to newest) by right-clicking next to "price" and choosing "release date" on the menu that pops up. The date created field will then be showing, which you can click on to sort newest to oldest or oldest to newest.  I downloaded a bunch of free apps starting from the oldest (by name - you don't have much else to go on).  Of the 30 or so I added to my Itunes, about 27 of them were compatible with 4.2.1.
This is defintely not a perfect way of finding apps, but after spending a lot of time searching for a better way this was the best I could come up with."

  • Is there a way to see what apps are on the phones under your account?

Can anyone tell me if you can see the apps that are on each phone under your account?

As noted earlier, your Google account lists the apps you've downloaded for your account.  So unless someone has your Google credentials, they're only visible to you.
As Jakeman1 said, log into Google Play from a computer (or request the desktop version from a mobile device).  On the left, click Apps.  Then underneath that, click My Apps.  Just to the right of that, click the drop-down next to All Apps and you can see what apps have been downloaded by device.  You also can assign nicknames for the devices via the Settings (the gear in the upper right-hand corner).

  • How to tell what apps are "running" in multitasking pane?

My understanding of how the ipad works is that when one presses the home button, the open app closes. However, when multitasking using the bar, how does one determine which apps are actively running versus which apps are simply displayed as part of the recently used apps list? I often have multiple safari windows plus a few apps open at one time. (I know I can view the safari windows by hitting the "windows" icon on the menu bar.
I'd like to be able to conserve battery life by killing background apps when necessary. But there is no "task pane" to see what's open at any given time.
    Any help appreciated,

No, when one presses the home button the open app does not necessarily close if it is capable of multitasking (for example Pandors radio).
The recent apps bar is really for selecting among recent apps. That is to say it is a way to switch between apps without having to go to the app screens to find the app.
Note only a subset of apps are actually capable of multitasking and these are rather obvious when they are running. There is an indicator to the left of the battery level indicator which indicates this (>).
Let me give an example. I just opened an app called My First Puzzle Toys. From the app home screen there is no close or exit option. With the app open, if I touch the home button on the bottom of the bezel, does this close it? Or is it still running? Similarly, if I double click the home button and choose Safari from the list, are both then running? Another example: I just double clicked the home button and launched Labryinth. The game's home screen has no exit choice. If I double click the home button and choose Safari, is Labrynith still running?
Maybe I just don't understand how this os works. Do apps not use memory if they are not actively shown on the screen?
