What brand of cdrs work in your superdrive?

I have a Matshita DVD-R UJ-845 and so far haven't been able to get it to burn any cdrs. I've tried memorex and maxell so far but I get the errors that you'll find in discussion here...
Topic: A CD burning problem...
It would be nice to have a list of cdr brands (and perhaps also dvdrs) that you find always works with the uj-845.
Thanks for your help.

I have an earlier drive, the 825, but still I have not heard of an issue about the maker of dvd or cd to be relevant. I would check out the way you are trying to write, if it is all by the book and still refuses to write, you'll need to get on the phone and replace it. btw, once it goes, it'll be twice as fast as mine so you'll be happier indeed.

  • What Brand is the memory of your stock macbook?

I just needed some clarification on this, someone told me apple use samsung memory in the macbook but wasnt sure, do you know?

That is what mine has as well. Would have prefered
Samsung or Hynix. Really don't know much of anything
about Nanya other than they also go by the name
Elixer and have a really cheezy robot (or is it an
    even cheesier bee?) logo <g>.
To be fair though they are on the Intel Validation
sheet for approved memory in the Centrino chipsets. I
was steered to the Lifetime Memory Products 1GB
upgrade as a result of having the Nanya RAM.
Apparently Lifetime Memory products is a reseller of

Thats what's in my 17" MBP, I kept the Nanya for backups.

  • I have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

i have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

You just need a powered hub.. if you already use one then fine.
Plug in just about any external hard disk will work fine. Format has to be readable by the TC.. ie fat32.. or much better HFS+.. plug it into a Mac to prepare the drive.
Pick whatever size suits.. nowadays 2TB are most economical.
WD, Seagate have goobled up all the minor players.. so pick one.
Whatever suits your budget and asthetics.
NOTE.. The USB on the TC is fine for printers.. IMHO it is the wrong way to go with USB disks.. use the internal disk of the TC.. USB is less than half the native speed plugged into a Mac.. TC to USB is slow.. far slower than internal drive.. or using external drive as external.

  • Digital drawing tablets, do they work well with Illustrator, if so what brand is best?

I'm wanting to get a drawing tablet and would like to know if and what brand Adobe supports. I'm a graphic designer and need to break free from the mouse!! ANYONE?

I use the Wacom Intuos 2 12x12; very, very nice in Illustrator.  A friend recommended the Wacom way back when I went digital in '95, and WOW!; I've never looked back.  I even use it in Word.  The best part is, the tablet allows you much more freedom and flexibility in your work station.  The mouse is limited by the cord and, a wireless is more flexible, but you still have to deal with the surface's texture or lack of and the mere fact of physically handling a line sequence by clicking and moving a mouse instead of using something so intuitive as a pen.
Don't hesitate, get the tablet.  It'll boost your productivity as well.  Plus, you will avoid costly medical procedures like carpal tunnel syndrome.

  • What brand HD is in your Macbook Pro?

What brand of hard drive is in your MacBook Pro, what speed, and what capacity?
    Thanks!

seems like the 7200 uses about 25% more power during
    disk usage.
Because the 7200 spins faster it doesn't have to spin as long as a 5400 to xfer the same data. It all evens out as far as actual power usage. The 7200 xfers 228MB more data per minute over the 5400. While the 5400 drive is still chugging along with a 400 MB file the 7200 has been long finished.

Does Skype work in through SL's iChat program ( IE: does iChat need to be running for Skype to succesfully use video picture & sound?) using iChat?

    Hi hassiman,
I don't have a complete list of webcams, but I recently purchased "IceCam2 USB 2.0 Video web Camera with Microphone (ICECAM2)" at MacMall.com, and it works great in iChat.
I don't use Skype, but I believe that it is independent of iChat. In other words, you can run Skype without running iChat. In fact, only one can grab the camera at a time.

  • Penryn hard drive question: what brand is in your MacBook Pro?

I am on my SECOND MacBook Pro in two weeks and both have had VERY noisy Hitachi hard drives. I have discovered through computer savy friends that Hitachi makes notoriously loud and clicky drives. I have a 250gig drive. Does ANYONE have a 250gig drive in their 15inch MacBook Pro that runs silent? What brand is it? All the rest of my macs (powerbook, macbook, iMac), you can't hear the drive ... but this one is a nightmare, you can hear it across the room. Help!
    Thanks.

    Hi Wolfsonca,
I have a Penryn MacBook Pro, the low end 15" 2.4 GHz, and only 200 GB hard disk. However, it is virtually silent. The nosiest piece is the DVD drive, and the model hard disk is FUJITSU MHY2200BH. Prior to replacing my MacBook with this MBP, I had put a Western Digital Scorpio mobile hard drive 250GB I purchased form Best Buy in it. That hard disk too, was silent. The only thing I was a little concerned with the Western Digital drive, is that Leopard did not recognize it as a NCQ capable drive. Good luck!

  • I need recommendations in purchasing an external hard drive, to back up everything in my computer. What brand and Size?

    I have a mid 2010 iMac, version 10.8.2, memory 4GB, 1TB sata disk.
Apple sent me an e-mail last year stating that my imac maybe affected to a recall. They said I have to back up my computer before sending it in to them. So its a great excuse to purchase an external hard drive.
But I am clueless. I would like to know what brand and size of memory is recommened for my imac and my needs. I will be mostly be backing up homevideos and alot of pictures, music, and some documents.
If someone could also explain about time machine? I guess its a whole separte thing from your media. I also would like to keep it affordable. I just purchased an external hard drive from www.macmall.com Seagate Backup Plus 1TB USB 3.0 Portable Drive - Black (STBU1000100).
But I don't know if that was a really great choice because for it to work with time machine I have to reformat certain things, and Im not sure if I would like to have that hassle.
I also wanted to know whats the difference between usb 3.0 and firewire. I read some forums saying that if you are to transfer videos you need to use firewire, and some agreed disagreed. Is that true?
    Please help!?
I definitely would like to know what brands of external hard drives are highly recommended and good at price. The one I purchased is it any good?
    Thank you!

  • What brand of wired ethernet hub or switch & cable should I get?

I have a PowerMac G4 (Sawtooth) and a um... Dell 4600 Dimension PC that I would like to network hard-wired to a new Lexmark X9350 all-in-one printer. The printer has ethernet network capabilities.
Have read discussions and articles on networking to the point where I'm almost totally confused... I've read that with a wired network I would need a ethernet hub or switch (preferably a switch according to threemac.com) and cables. If this is all I need, what brand of hub or switch and cables should I buy? I'll probably need at least 25 feet of cable since the printer is in another room from where the computers are located.
How would I set up the Mac (at least) for network settings? Will have to ask a PC expert about its settings.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Ethernet hubs and switches by Iogear, Logitec, Netgear, to name a few will work fine. Best bet is what you can find easily and afford. Mine is a Logitec 5 port powered hub that cost me about $20. • Actions; how do I find what commands don't work in actions?

I'm frustrated in trying to create an action make a channel into a layer.
    Sounds easy, right?
I'm got hung up on several issues though, which raised a bigger question:
    • In the approach I'm taking, I want to select the target channel during the action.
When I click on Channel X during recording, the action records the step as
    "Select X Channel"
Unfortunately the particular channel is hardwired into this command so that would
mean making three different versions of the action.  I have tried looking for a
more general form of the command, like Select Channel that then takes the
particular channel as a parameter, e.g. from a drop-down menu.  That at least
would work in an action. But no such.  (I tried some other ideas like using
Calculate or Channel Mixer which come close but not close enough.)
There's a more lame design: selecting the channel before recording the action, then
creating and deleting extra "internal" channels in the action -- it does work but it
isn't where I started so I lost a lot of time trying to find something that appears not
    to exist.
    • The lurking question here is how you find
    (a) whether there even exists an actual generic form of a command
      (b) whether the command works in a way that makes it possible to use in an action
Web searches don't lend themselves to finding information like "what commands
don't work in actions".  I would really appreciate pointers to any in-depth documents
on what commands a user can't get at for recording in actions.

Sorry about the last post, but i knew i had recorded selecting channels by the number instead of the name.
Well i found one of my older actions which must have been recorded in an old version of photoshop that named the channels with numbers.
Anyway, see if this action helps you any. (you have to copy the steps to your action)

  • What brands and type can I use for my iMac 20" internal Hard Drive?

what brands and type can I use for my iMac 20" aluminium internal Hard Drive?
can I use WD caviar black?
    is it too hot?

If you are replacing the drive because the existing one is faulty, that's one thing. If you just want more space, you should take advantage of having a decently fast and relatively small capacity drive in there now (instead of a huge drive). Get an external FireWire drive and off-load most of your user data there. Make your internal drive dedicated to mostly your OS and app files, with plenty of free space. That setup will make your iMac run more efficiently. I won't go into more detail, because I'm not answered your specific question... You can post back with any questions, if interested...
    To answer your questions...
You should be able to use any SATA 3.5-inch drive internally, but you should probably keep it at or under 1TB. The main concerns are power usage and heat dissipation. A drive like the WD Caviar Green would be ideal in terms of power and heat, but they do have slower (or variable) spin rate. I have one as an external drive (750GB) and it is amazingly quiet and cool. If I had to replace the internal drive because the current drive failed, I'd put it inside. I'll trade a bit of pure performance for the efficiency (including low noise), and these drives are more advanced with higher data density and larger cache, so the trade-off from slower spin rate may not be so bad.
You can check your current drive's model number (which is shown in System Profiler) to get the specs online. The stock drive in my old +Late 2006+ iMac is a 7200 RPM drive. The Caviar Black is a 7200 RPM drive, with a newer design. So if you want to use a Caviar Black in there, I think it would be OK.

  • What brand external hard drive is best with time machine

what brand of external hard drive works best with time machine?

Contrary to the other two replies, I will relate what I've read here: WD drives are fine, but their (cheap?) enclosures are subject to failure. Some buy a bare WD drive and install it in an Oxford Chip external enclosure (OWC / macsales.com would be one source). And, I have two LaCie Quadras and one OWC Mercury Pro - both are generally recommended here. If you want it bootable, most WD drives do not support it:
    http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1787/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvd GltZS8xMzUxNTIzMzIwL3NpZC9ueUFYc1g5bA%3D%3D
Please note: it's good to have an external hard drive which has its own power supply and, as mentioned, FW 800 or USB 3). You also do not need any software that comes on the external - you will most likely need to format it anyway because most come formatted for Windows, but that is easy using Disk Utility.
