  • What cisco device should i acquire

    My requierments are fairly simple:
    Good security (UTM ? )
6 different branches should be tunneled
    Mobile client vpn
up to 30 users at each branch
at least 2 WAN links (cable/dsl)
Any advice on what series should i consider? is there a wizard somewhere that i could rely on to make such a suggestion?

    Hi Ro Land,
    1) To the best of my knowledge, this device is not expandable.
    2) The device has 4 configurable ports, but at any time you can only configure up to 2 ports as WAN.
    3) All ISA security services are bundled under one license for which you can purchase in 1 or 3 year increments.  Pricing for a 3 year (L-ISA550-CS-3YR=)looks like $256.35:
    http://www.cdwg.com/shop/products/Cisco-Comprehensive-Security-subscription-license/2959189.aspx
    4) There is no command line interface for the ISA series of devices.   However, from my experience the GUI for this device is one of the most robust i've ever dealt with on an SMB product.
Remember this is an SMB product so some features (command line, fully configurable ports, different modules,  etc) are not available.  However, there is a significant cost savings over comparable products.   Answering this right before I go to bed so sorry for any incorrect information.

  • Which cisco device to register a 7921g to?

what cisco devices are capables to register a 7921g wifi ip phone?
I think I can do it wiht a uc520 for example, but,  there would be any other smaller device?
I have a cisco srp527 wich gives me dsl conection, and I´m trying to connect it with some cisco device which I can register the 7921g against.
    I would appreciate some advice
    Thank you in advance
    Javier

If you have a cisco router that runs CME (Call Manager Xpress) then you can register your 7921 on to it
Here are the basic steps for that

I am not too sure about SME products you mentioned

  • What non cisco devices can be monitored by MARS

We are in the process or purchasing the MARS 110R and was wondering what other non cisco devices on our network can be monitored by MARS for intance our exchange servers.

You can monitor the security event logs (as well as most other windows event logs) using MARS. I'm not sure it understands Exchange specific event logs, but it should be able to parse the normal authentications that take place in an Exchange environment (and are logged to the security event log). Here is the list:

  • Bash vulnerability bash CVE-2014-6271 on Cisco devices

    Hi, all,
Anybody know whether any Cisco devices are vulnerable to  recent bash CVE-2014-6271? I am especially concerned about ASA which opens https to the public.

  • Vulnerability on Cisco Devices!!!

I would like to know the best solution for this three issues on my cisco devices (pix 515e, asa5510, sw 2960s) detected by the Security Metrics Vision Vulnerability Scan:
    1. SSL server accepts weak ciphers.
    2. SSL certificate is signed with weak hash function: MD5.
3.TLS Protocol Session Renegotiation Security Vulnerability.
    Thank you for any assistance!!!
    Orlando

    > 1. SSL server accepts weak ciphers.
Specify just the ciphersuites you like, e.g.
        ssl encryption aes256-sha1 3des-sha1
I'm not sure about (2) and (3); open a TAC with Cisco; they may not be possible to work around on the current software.

  • What is the story on mac vulnerability? Is it serious or not serious?  If not serious, why is this not being explained?  If serious, why are Mac users not being informed of the risk?

what is the story on mac vulnerability? Is it serious or not serious?
If serious, why are we not kept informed
If not serious, why is some much anxiety being created?

IMO, it is being greatly over-blown in the media and online.
Man in the middle attacks require the hacker to be connected to the same intranet network that your device is.  Even if they are, unless you go to a secure site and use personal data (like passcodes) they get nothing from stealing your data stream.
If you are at your home, on your own secured intranet, then you really have virtually nothing to fear (as long as your own home network is secured and not wide open to anybody within range).  If you routinely use a VPN connection when on public wifi, again, you are fine.  Or if you use FireFox, Chrome or another browser that implements its own SSL security, then you are fine.
The fact is, that even for those in a particular situation that is vulnerable to such an attack, most are not actually under any such attack - it is not nearly as rampant as the recent hype would have it seem to be.

  • Archive process hung on all cisco devices - help

I have Archive setup on all of my devices in the enviornment to archive configs via tftp to a server on the network.  A team mate of mine elected to down that box because the "did no know what it was."  Now I have a process hung on every one of my cisco devices that is preventing the archive from performing.  I am hoping to find a way to stop this process short of a rebuild of every on of my devices.

Appologies, I assume most would realize this...but I meant to say "short of a REBOOT of every ONE of my devices".  Symptom to too many things at once.  Thanks.

    Hello,
Encountering the same issue here: my impression is that the default port 80 is not in use, but during installation a different port is setup for connecting with the content-repo. Excuses, but my knowledge ends here. I haven't found out yet how to check, edit, restore the used port.
    Anyone a clue for us?
    Much appreciated,

  • How can I restore out of box configuration on Cisco device?

    Hello,
The new Cisco devices (routers and switches) are coming with some default (out of box) configuration, but not without configuration, not with blank configuration.
I realized that there is some command that can restore thе default configuration. But I can't find it.
What is this command? Anyone does it know?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Tsvety

Mike's suggestion was correct. I would only add that one needs to erase vlan.dat if you have a switch that was used elsewhere. Cisco procedure linked here (for switches) and here (for routers).
Even a brand new factory-fresh box will have SOME configuration bits on it. A skeleton configuration - the default VLAN 1, empty interface definitions, etc. will always be there. The only way to remove everything would be to erase flash altogether forcing one to boot in rommon (not very useful).

  • Auto Smartports with non-Cisco devices

I have used auto smartports in the past and have been successful creating macros that use mac-addresses.
My question is can I create a macro that works with non-Cisco devices that are CDP capable?
We have Motorolla access points that use CDP and I would like to use auto smartports to put them on their own VLANs.
Can it be done using CDP?  What version of the IOS would I need to be on?  Currently the 3750-Xs are on 12.2.(55).
Are there any guides or configuration examples?  I've searched but have been unsuccessful in find anything so far.
I have seen some articles that reference device sensors and device profiles, but have no idea where to begin.
Thanks in advance for your support.

You may need to create a Cisco TAC case for this.
If not, then move this thread to the EEM section.  If the Moto AP supports CDP then you can get someone (like Joe Clark) to build a small EEM script.
EEM is supported up to the 3560/3750.

  • Tool to Collect Inventory of Cisco devices in Network

      Hi,
Would like to check if there is any free tool available which can help me to collect Inventory of my all Cisco Devices in my network.
     Please help
    Regards
    MAC

For windows i only used the trial of solarwinds (wich is really good.) it also has free tools.
If you are only looking for inventory purposes or you are looking for a monitoring tool too?
For inventory you can use the ip address tracker (a free tool from solarwinds.)
PRTG from Paessler will let you monitor up to 10 devices for free. if you want more you have to pay.
Spiceworks (never try it) but i think its decent for inventory but if you want to monitor the devices you have you have to buy extra plugins (i think, not really sure.)
And that´s what comes to my mind for now
    Regards!

  • Syslog server for Monitoring Cisco devices

I am looking for Syslog server to log all logs from Cisco devices. We have more than 800 cisco devices. Can anyone tell me what syslog server should i use to log these files.
    Thank you.

Has anyone used the Cisco recommendation of Buliding Scalable Syslog Solutions?
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/technologies/collateral/tk869/tk769/white_paper_c11-557812.html#wp9000318
I used this in another organaztion and we were very successful, we currenlty use Netcool that feeds from a syslog and we get several non-actionable alarms and it's very time consuming for 13,000 devices.  I would only like to alert on 0-5 Cisco Syslog messages.  Below is the response from my Netcool Administrator (What are your thoughts?):
    From my Netcool Administrator:
Regarding, using the Cisco syslog severity for alert control, I feel that is not the best way to control the work in Netcool.
    1. -- Cisco is not consistent with the use of this value.
        Examples:
In this case the important message is the lower severity alert: I would consider the BGP-3-NOTIFICATION of a 6 level of Informational
