What content of Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0)

Hi
I want to download the 10G Standard Edition , Now i want to know what is content of
Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) ?
is it required for OCA exam preparation ?

The documentation site (http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=1 for 10gR2) provides 3 sets of installation documents:
- server
- companion
- client
Each document describes what is on the CD. Right at the front. In summary:
Oracle HTTP Server
Oracle HTML DB
Oracle JDBC Development Drivers
Oracle SQLJ
Oracle Database Examples
Oracle Text Supplied Knowledge Bases
Oracle Workflow Server
Oracle Ultra Search
JPublisher
Oracle Workflow middle-tier components
It also contains the Java-based Oracle Enterprise Manager.
You do not need it to study for the OCA. However, having samples that work and ready made data is very handy.
Step 1, or possibly even step '0' of the OCA training should always be 'how to use the documentation'. At least, that's the way I teach the OCA/OCP courses.

Hi all:
We have recently upgraded our database from Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0 to Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0
After that we found that our some sql getting very slow

• Running Oracle Database 10g Release 2 on computer with Vista Home Premium

Do you think I need all 3 of these downloads to sun Oracle on my computer at home? I have Windows Vista Home Premium.running on my personal computer at home

Windows Vista Home is not a supported platform. In this specific case it means you can install it and it will partially work. You will have your database up and running, but the Enterprise Manager will behave funny, and it will show several errors when you attempt to launch tasks such as backup, exp/imp, sqlldr, and all other tasks that require connection to the OS (tasks which require the connect as batch privilege). So you may get fun for a while, but if you are thinking about exploiting more EM features, then I suggest you to install a Virtual Machine and install either a supported windows on it or install Oracle Enterprise Linux and install the Oracle 10gR2 for linux.

Good afternoon,

final String connectionURLThin = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@value1:value2:value3";
I tried to put my 'user' and 'pw' credentials I used when connecting with SQL*PLUS:
value1=my_user_name
value2=my_pw
value3=my_schema
but it doest work. Besides where could have I to put the 'WORKSPACE" name?
Thanks for any help.

Yes, the network connection could not be established. Like the error said.
What you're asking about is the exact reason, but that could be any number of things and not at all related to code. You could have the wrong host, the wrong port. A firewall could be blocking the outgoing connection, a firewall could be blocking the incoming connection. Etc. etc.

Please let me know What should i do i want to start my practice sessions on sqldeveloper
I am new in Oracle pl/sql development
Please guide me on this.........................

SQLDeveloper 3.0 production is supplied with the thin driver 11.2.0.2
it needs 11.2.0.2 version to use thick which has a few additional features over thin.
To avoid confusion with other Oracle software you can set the ORACLE_HOME in the session you start sqldeveloper in as described below:
The version mismatch is often because SQLDeveloper is trying to use the 'thick' driver and 11.2.0.2 thick is not available,
try
thin by:
1/(uncheck Tools->preferences->Datababae->advanced->use OCI/thick driver, and
2/If necessary, set ORACLE_HOME for your cmd.exe session where sqldev is started from to where sqldeveloper is where %ORACLE_HOME%\jdbc\lib exists, (so SQLDeveloper does not try your existing ORACLE_HOME) and
3/If using connection type TNS, use Connection Type TNS -> Network Alias.
4/You may need to set Tools->preferences->Datababase->advanced->Tnsname directory to the directory containing tnsnames.ora

• What file format Oracle Database 11g can spool data w chinese characters?

Hi,
I have a batch job that spools data into a text file for further processing but now I have data that contains chinese characters.
From what I know text file (.txt) cannot support chinese characters.
Anyone has any idea what file format Oracle Database 11g can spool data with chinese characters?
Thank you!
Regards,
Fel

I'm not sure this can work with SQL*Plus in character mode on Windows DOS mode. But this should work with SQL Developer: see Re: How to display Chinese characters in Oracle?
I can also make this work with Linux:
$ locale
LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="fr_FR.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="fr_FR.UTF-8"

• Important--Bug(ORA-22813) fixes in Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.4

Hi,
I found that in SELECT STATEMENTs where we use "xmlagg() functions with a GROUP BY/ORDER BY,it fails with ORA-22813 if the result is too large.
This happens as there is a hard coded limit on the result size. (max 30k)
Next,i confirmed that and when i removed a portion of the XML agg() values and executed it---Wonders,it runs perfectly fine.
This means that ""xmlagg() functions with a GROUP BY/ORDER BY,fails with ORA-22813 since the result is too large.
I have come to know that patch "Release 10.2.0.4" has the fix for Bug-22813 for "xmlagg() functions with a GROUP BY/ORDER BY".
Could you all please confirm that "Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.4" (patch 10.2.04) fixes the issue?
Based on your confirmation,i can go ahead to get the patch installed.
Current Version:-Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bi

Your query should be written something like this..
select d.*
from fbnk_customer,
XMLTABLE
'//c3'
passing XMLRECORD
columns
C3_VALUE varchar2(60) path 'text()'
) d
where recid='1001400'; Although it would be better to use an extact path expression rather than '//c3'

The solution to this problem is described in MetaLink note #211920.1. But this note is published with LIMITED access as it involves using a hidden parameter.
You can get access to the note through Oracle Support only.
The problem itself is solved generically, if the source database is at least 10.1.0.3 and the target database is 10.2

• Oracle Forms 6i(32-bit) = Oracle database 10g R2 Windows 2008 R2 64-bit)

We have Oracle database 10g R2 installed on a Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit) (SERVER1)
We have Oracle Forms 6i (patch 4a) installed on a Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32-bit) (SERVER2)
I am not able to connect from SERVER2 to SERVER1, either through SQLPLUS or FORMS BUILDER.
Its giving some DLL error.
Is it because forms 6i (32-bit) cannot connect to a 64-bit database on a 64-bit OS ?

There might be problems with 8i clients (like forms 6i) if the database uses AL32UTF8 characterset indeed (if you need unicode and you need to run forms 6i use UTF8 instead) but this should not be related to the platform of the database.
The platform of the database server really should not matter as the forms runtime talks via SQL*Net with the database server and in the end it does not matter if the database runs on linux, windows whatsoever or unix 32 or 64 bit for the client. The only problem you'll encounter is that SQL*Net also changes with versions and thus "older" clients might not be able to communicate with "newer" servers and vice versa.

• Companion CD installation - getting Oracle Database 10g installation

Hi everyone,
I want to install the Oracle Companion CD (to use HTTP server and HTMLDB) on Solaris with Oracle Database 10g. I downloaded the companion CD and when running the installer I am getting "Welcome to the Oracle Database 10g Installation". I have already installed the database so my question is why the installer is asking me to install another database ? The documentation is explaining that the user would have the choice to select an HTTP server installation.
Best regards,
Othman

Get the companion CD from the same place as the database. Start at http://otn.oracle.com, click on Downloads, and to to the Database download
Get the step by step instructions from the documentation. Start at http://tahiti.oracle.com, go to the database documentation for the version you are using, click on the Books tab, search for "Companion CD Installation Guide for [your operating system]" or "Companion CD Quick Installation Guide for [your operating system]" and follow the steps.
I strongly encourage you to install ONLY the HTTP server from the companion CD, and to install it into a separate ORACLE_HOME.
After that, I suggest you use APEX instead of HTMLDB (APEX is the next generation of HTMLDB and is MUCH better.) To get that going, start at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html and look at "Documentation and Tutorials" for the installlation guide.

• Install of Oracle database 10g

I have installed 1 CD of the oracle database 10g. I have an icon, and can get into the system with my ID and password, but do I need a host string? I keep gettting a time out message and there is no reference to what this is? I am a student taking basic database class and the book the CDs came from is Modern Database Management , I am trying to get into SQL plus, do I need to place it in another file? I am operating off of windows, is there something wrong?
thanks,
Mary McClure

Apologies. That log was overwritten. I re-ran the install (basic) and left the create starter database box unchecked. I still received the missing file error I mentioned above, I did not get a database configuration assistant error however the DBCA still does not work.
Install logs are not overwritten - AFAIK, they have timestamps appended to them - Troubleshooting the Oracle Database Installation
I would not worry about the one missing file error reported for now. The database software install seems to be successful. What does "DBCA still does not work" mean ? Pl post the contents of the DBCA log file and any error codes/messages encountered.

• Oracle Database 10g relase 1 Installation Problem on RHEL 3 ES

Dear all
I'm trying to install oracle database 10g r1 X86_64 on Intel Xeon Machine with EM64T technology with RHEL 3 ES update 2 X86_64 edition. The problem is described below :
Oracle OUI .runInstaller collapsed with such a following error:
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the
VM.
Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0x8077470
Function=[Unknown.]
Library=(N/A)
Is there anyone can help me ??

Check pushitz website and ensure that you have all the required rpms installed properly.
Check the log files in the installation directory. That should give some more details as to what exactly is going on.

• Unable to continue Oracle Database 10g R2 installation on IBM AIX 5.3L

I am facing some difficulties in installing the above. My environment is as follows:
Server is a IBM system P, OS is AIX 5.3L and oracle version is Oracle Database 10g R2 (10.2).
I encounter my problem when asked to changed/edit the shell script when changing oracle users. I can't find the % vi .login file. And I'm not sure how to proceed.
Please advice as to what needs to be done.
Thank you

i'm using bash shell.If you are using a bash shell then .bash_profile is used by default.
It is located in user's home, if it does not exist then simply create it.
can this file be edited after installation?Yes. And also you can set the enviroment temporary (just for current session)
I just can't find the vi .login file."vi" is command (text editor very common in Unix and Unix like world)
.login does not need to exist (see .bash_profile as above). Note .login is ignored by bash shell.
